Hillary’s Foreign Policy Scarier than Donald’s

I know I harp on the foreign pol;icy thing a lot…but with all our adventurism around the world I do believe that this issue will be the deciding issue of our time…….

It is no secret that I think that Trump’s ideas on foreign policy are dangerous……but in reality Clinton’s scare me more that Trump’s…..

The senseless murder of forty-nine revelers at an Orlando, Florida, nightclub has amplified our need for a long overdue national conversation this election season about the overall direction of U.S. foreign policy and our proper role in the world. With the party nominating conventions just weeks away, now is a good time to start.

In what was billed as a major foreign-policy address several weeks ago, Hillary Clinton, who will carry the Democratic banner in this year’s contest for the White House, got the ball rolling, characterizing presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s views as “dangerous.” Focusing on Trump’s statement that Japan and South Korea should defend themselves, rather than rely on the United States—even if this includes the possible use of nuclear weapons—Clinton was anything but subtle. “This is not someone who should ever have the nuclear codes because it’s not hard to imagine Donald Trump leading us into a war just because somebody got under his very thin skin.”

All Dressed Up And No One To Speak

I have been watching the news about the GOP convention that is coming up……first the Never Trump people have hired staff and looks like they intend on being some sort of spoiler during the event…..

Next….if you ever watched a convention then you are aware that they have endless supply of boring tools speak….some even try to set the stage for their next election bid…..but this year there seems to be a slight hole in the amount of speakers willing to show up……or should that be….throw up?

Almost as bad as a party no one RSVPs to: a national political convention where you’re the presumed nominee and people are either reluctantly attending, turning down high-profile speaking opportunities, or not coming at all. That’s what Politico reveals after a somewhat cringe-inducing inquiry into who’s interested in speaking at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next month, noting that after placing calls to more than 50 big-name senators, governors, and House reps, the usually coveted speaking roles aren’t garnering much interest in “the year of Trump.” “Only a few said they were open to it—and everyone else said they either weren’t planning on it, didn’t want to, weren’t going to Cleveland at all, or simply didn’t respond,” the site notes. It documents a list of “terse to abrupt” reactions from pols, with some noting they’d declined long ago; others giving noncommittal answers like “I haven’t thought about it”; and still others citing previous engagements, like Rep. Trey Gowdy, who will be going to the beach instead.

Even Trump’s former rivals are hedging on an RNC speaking gig, usually seen as a “precious commodity,” per Politico: Marco Rubio doesn’t think he’ll even be asked (and he says he won’t Trump-stump if he is), while a John Kasich rep gave a “no comment.” All of that falls under “passive GOP” news: Per a Sunday conference call, a more active group—what Politico deems “anti-Trump forces”—is dispatching an “advance team” to Cleveland this week to try to keep Trump from nabbing the nomination. It will try to “unbind” delegates so they’re free to “vote their conscience,” resulting in seeming confusion among delegates on exactly how to do that, as well as pushback from pro-Trump delegates, including one who calls attempts to derail Trump a “desperate, selfish attempt at self-promotion by a very tiny minority of the national Republican delegates.”

The GOP is hemorrhaging members worse then a gun shot to the femoral artery…..are we witnessing something historic….or is it just something pathetic?

Brexit’s Implications for the United States

Sorry for hitting everyone over the head with the “Brexit” stuff…but I have major pain issues today and I am depending on drafts to get the day done…….hopefully tomorrow will be a better day….

The big vote last week when Britain decided to leave the EU has brought about a wealth of speculation…..as usual Americans do not have much of an opinion basically because they cannot see the big picture just the momentary snap shot in the news….

This will be one of my last posts on the “Brexit” story…….I will try and present as much info as possible on this situation for those that may be interested enough to read……(like that would ever happen)…..

The United States remains the world’s indispensable nation — indispensable to international peace, security, and stability, and indispensable to safe-guarding and advancing the ideals and principles we hold dear.

Could this vote be the end of the United Kingdom?

While the results of last night’s Brexit referendum put a square majority of voters in favor of leaving the European Union, the vote split starkly across geographic regions, with Northern Ireland and every single district in Scotland voting decisively to stay. Ultimately it was England and Wales that carried the night.

That’s not necessarily the end of things, however, with Scotland’s First Minister calling the Brexit referendum “democratically unacceptable,” and vowing that the Scottish government would immediately move toward another independence referendum.

Scottish independence lost a vote in 2014, but at the time the narrative was that voting to remain within the UK was vital to staying in the EU, with the corollary that Britain might not let an independent Scotland into the EU. That argument was seen as a major centerpiece of the anti-independence movement. Just a year and a half later, remaining part of the UK has meant Scotland being dragged out of the EU against its will, and with the belief that Scotland was sold a bill of goods, the SNP is pushing to re-do the referendum on the basis of the new reality.

Northern Ireland might not be far behind, with the major Sinn Fein party calling for a vote within the region to withdraw from the United Kingdom and unite with EU member Ireland,. a long-time ambition for many in Northern Ireland at any rate.

Even tiny Gibraltar, which voted over 95% to remain in the EU, might be up for grabs, with Spain pushing for Britain to allow joint control of the tiny region as a way to keep the rock within the European Union’s economy.

But what about the rest of the continent?  Who will follow and who will stay?

Brexit dominated the Greek media on Friday. After so much drama over Greece’s potential exit from the EU and its heroic efforts to remain in the bloc, it was British voters who elected to leave.

Following international trends, the Athens stock market plunged, and Greek tour agencies expressed concerns about whether the result would hurt the flow of British tourists.

With the European Union still reeling after last night’s British referendum coming out solidly in favor of withdrawing from the Union, Euroskeptic movements elsewhere on the continent are gaining momentum, with calls for votes in several nations.

French presidential front-runner Marine Le Pen is openly threatening a “Frexit” vote if elected, saying she would push for negotiations to expand French sovereignty within the EU and, if unsuccessful, move straight on to leaving the union, saying Britain “is setting a precedent.”

If Dutch MP Geert Wilders has his way, the Netherlands would be the next to hold a referendum. Recent opinion polls in the Netherlands show a major in favor of holding such a referendum, and while there’s not an overall majority in favor of leaving yet, analysts believe the British departure will add to that movement.

Italy’s Northern League, another Euroskeptic group, is also calling for a law that would allow such a referendum to take place. The Italian constitution currently does not allow referenda on international agreements, so such a law change would need to take place before they could hold any sort of binding vote

The referendum result puts the Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, and the mainstream political parties supporting him in an awkward position. After Ireland, no country in the eurozone has closer economic and financial ties to the UK, with both nations favouring free trade and close relations to Washington. The Netherlands has huge investments in the UK and followed Britain into its wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Royal Dutch Shell, Unilever and Elsevier are all successful Anglo-Dutch multinationals.

“Brexit” The Sequel

Last week the world went batcrap crazy…..you see Britain voted to leave the EU and that set off days of speculation by the media….especially who would be the next nation to choose the path of exit……will it be Greece (my choice) or maybe Holland or Italy or Denmark…even France because they were never completely on board with the whole EU thingy……

I could write about these wannabes but instead I would like to write about the “exit” thing here in the US.

I know what could I possibly be talking about, right?

Texas fools!

How many times has the subject come up in the news with Texas attached to it?

After the “Brexit” vote and all the news coverage and all the worthless speculation….the whole secession thing has once again come up and Texas  center…….

Not content with celebrating liberty on July 4, a group of Texans has gleaned inspiration from Brexit—the UK’s decision to leave the EU—with its own push for independence. The similar-sounding “Texit” movement, which gained significant support online Friday, is mainly being pushed by the Texas Nationalist Movement, which is basically the US soulmate of the UK secession initiative, according to its leader, David Miller, right down to the “Leave” campaign slogan that TNM says it’s been using for years. With a motto of “Texas First, Texas Forever,” the group, like those behind Brexit, advocates for “self-government,” Miller tells News.com.au. “At this moment, we don’t enjoy that right,” he says. “The vast majority of the laws, rules, and regulations that affect the people of Texas are created by the political class or unelected bureaucrats in Washington.”

Vocativ decided to see how often the phrase “Texit” has been used in 2016 and found that online references spiked after the Brexit tally came in. Nearly 1,800 people tweeted something Texit-related in the hour of the announcement, with thousands more tweets following. Some of the posts are frighteningly serious, others are somewhat clever (cue the “most likely to secede” memes), and still others can’t do anything but virtually shake their heads. It’s not the first time some of the state’s residents have vied for a breakaway: Right after President Obama’s reelection, the White House turned down a petition signed by 125,000 people calling for Texas’ freedom, Fox News reported. One Texit supporter tells the Guardian that a secession would bring back “Texas solutions” on issues such as gay marriage, gun rights, and immigration. (Here, a fewlegaltakes on secession rules.)

I am sick of hearing this crap from Texas…I say if they like then by God let’s let them go……but first build that Trump wall around the state and only put in a couple of in and out gates….and then we will see just how serious these fools are about leaving the union……

If they do not want to be part of the US then let the f*ckers go!  I am sick of listening to these whiney twats……let them GO!

UK: Wassup Now?

Last week the people of the UK voted to leave the EU by a small margin…..(and the peasants danced)…..now that Cameron is gone and the UK is leaving….what will it take to slip out of town?

Britain has voted to leave the European Union, but any such split is still years away. Here’s a look at what happens next:

  • Thursday’s vote isn’t legally binding, meaning Britain must still formally notify the EU of its intention to leave. To do so, it would invoke the never-before-used Article 50 of the EU treaty, which in turn sets off a two-year period of negotiations over the exit, explains CNN.
  • But when that two-year clock starts ticking is still unclear. In theory, outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron could inform the EU at a meeting as early as next week. But Cameron said Friday he thinks it makes more sense for his successor to do so, notes the New York Times. That would push back the notification at least a few months.
  • Even after the clock starts ticking, the exit won’t necessarily be figured out within two years. A quote from the BBC: “It’s not possible to predict exactly how long it would take, but comparable international trade deals have taken on average between four and nine years.”
  • The Telegraph: “Untying Britain from the old membership is the easy bit. Harder would be agreeing [on] a new trading relationship, establishing what tariffs and other barriers to entry are permitted, and agreeing on obligations such as free movement. Such a process, EU leaders claim, could take another five years.”
  • Why are things so vague? “The Treaty of Lisbon was drafted with the idea that [Article 50] would not be used, and to make it pretty hard to exit in a smooth way,” a Cambridge lecturer tells the Independent.
  • And there’s this: Because Thursday’s vote isn’t legally binding, “there are a few ways it could theoretically be blocked or overturned,” notes Vox. The Guardian suggests one: Parliament could instruct the prime minister not to invoke Article 50.
  • Also possible: A second referendum to undo the first.

Glad you asked……Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty……

  • 1. Any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.

2. A Member State which decides to withdraw shall notify the European Council of its intention. In the light of the guidelines provided by the European Council, the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union. That agreement shall be negotiated in accordance with Article 218(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. It shall be concluded on behalf of the Union by the Council, acting by a qualified majority, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament.

3. The Treaties shall cease to apply to the State in question from the date of entry into force of the withdrawal agreement or, failing that, two years after the notification referred to in paragraph 2, unless the European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period.

4. For the purposes of paragraphs 2 and 3, the member of the European Council or of the Council representing the withdrawing Member State shall not participate in the discussions of the European Council or Council or in decisions concerning it.

A qualified majority shall be defined in accordance with Article 238(3)(b) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.

5. If a State which has withdrawn from the Union asks to rejoin, its request shall be subject to the procedure referred to in Article 49.

Space: The Final Frontier

Today I begin my weekend stuff…..and I apologize for the corny title….I was having a time with one so I just stole one from TV……(I’m a bad boy)…..

I try to catch my readers up on different things on the weekends and today I will do some of that for the science of astronomy……

Is there a 9th planet out there…hiding in plain sight…..

The Solar System could be harbouring far more planets than we currently know about, astronomers have said. After carrying out calculations relating to the hypothetical Planet Nine, the scientists said the presence of even more planets could better explain the unusual orbits of objects at the far reaches of the Solar System.

Evidence for the existence of Planet Nine was presented by Caltech scientists earlier this year. Scientists found six trans-Neptunian objects (ETNOs) with highly unusual orbital paths. However, they said these paths could be explained by the presence of a massive planet (about 10 times the mass of the Earth), the gravity of which was influencing the six objects.

And it does not stop there…..gravity waves…..cool in any language……

Astronomers say they’ve heard the echoes of two more crashing black holes—a discovery that hints that the unseen violence of the universe may be pretty common, the AP reports. They detected a second gravitational wave. That’s the warp in the fabric in the cosmos that Albert Einstein predicted a century ago and only results only from the most massive space crashes. It’s something that can’t be seen and Einstein thought would never be detected, but scientists have found a way to hear it—first one note, in September 2015, and now two. “This is what we call gravity’s music,” a Louisiana State University physicist says.

With that second, higher pitch chirp, detected Christmas night in the United States, an international team of scientists have switched from reveling in the “aha” of first discovery to the more detailed and telling recording of the historical soundtrack of a chaotic universe. Astronomers announcing the sounds likened that soundtrack to jazz, maybe with a mix of classical music. “This event really does establish that there are quite a few merging black holes in the nearby universe,” a Penn State University physicist says. “The universe is full of these tremendous collisions that are depositing tremendous energy.” The latest sound was from a cosmic crash 1.4 billion light-years away. A light-year is 5.9 trillion miles.

Health Update

Finally a few days away from the mindless dribble of the Right and the profound constipation of the Left…..today I would like to talk about food.

But first…have you ever had an onion start sprouting in storage….I cut the top off with the sprouts and plant them….the last time I got 11 small red onions from my effort…..

And now for the harvest of the morning….my first yellow tomato of the season…..

And finally with home grown ingredients I will make fresh salsa…

On to more important things…..I do not diet per se….I do use a modified version of the Mediterranean diet….I am not a fan of fish so it is off the menu….I read an article about this diet and its possible good results….

Women who’ve survived breast cancer and are looking to prevent a recurrence may be encouraged by news out of a major cancer conference: that adhering to a Mediterranean diet (lots of fruits, veggies, fish, and olive oil) may help fend off the disease’s return, the Guardian reports. For their experiment, revealed at the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s annual meeting in Chicago, researchers at Piacenza Hospital in Italy studied two groups of women who had been treated for early breast cancer: 199 who ate Mediterranean-style (including an allowance for one alcoholic drink daily) and another 108 who ate what they usually did, but with healthy-eating input from a dietician. After three years of following these diets, none of the ladies who went Mediterranean suffered relapses, while 11 women from the other group did. Science World Report notes these results add onto the news from another, much larger recent JAMA study that found a Mediterranean diet rich in extra-virgin olive oil led to a 68% reduction in the risk of developing breast cancer.

There are drawbacks to the new study—notably, the small sample size, the relatively short follow-up time of three years, and other methodology issues, critics say. “People were asked to participate in one diet or the other,” the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s director of clinical research tells the Guardian. “There is no information about the activity level or change in weight which, for most of the lifestyle research, one needs to be aware of.” And the CEO of UK charity Breast Cancer Care says that while any info about how to possibly keep breast cancer from coming back is a “welcome addition to our toolbox,” there’s no universal panacea. “Lifestyle choices like eating a well-balanced diet, [partaking in] regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight can all help reduce the risk of cancer coming back, but they can’t prevent it completely,” she notes, per the Independent. The Pharma companies spend billions on research and then make many billions after they release their new drug and then there are a wealth of lawyers that sue the companies after that…….

The problem that few know of is that of the antivirus game……..

The Antivirus industry has a dirty little secret that they really don’t want anyone to know. Despite the claims of their marketing departments, their products are not all that effective. Many of them are only protecting against at best 80% or 90% of the threats out there in the wild at any time, and their protection against ransomware is very bad.

Let’s look at that in more detail. AV products need to protect against two general types of threats: ones that are known and threats that are unknown. The ones that are known, they have a signature for so that they can detect the threat and get rid of it. This is called reactive detection.

And then is the cost of your meds……and as usual it is Obama’s fault that they are so damn expensive……

Evidence is mounting that doctors who receive as little as one meal from a drug company tend to prescribe more expensive, brand-name medications for common ailments than those who don’t.

A study published online Monday in JAMA Internal Medicine found significant evidence that doctors who received meals tied to specific drugs prescribed a higher proportion of those products than their peers. And the more meals they received, the greater share of those drugs they tended to prescribe relative to other medications in the same category.

Art Of Blogging: Quantity Or Quality

And now for something completely different…..

This will be number 9 in my thoughts on blogging……just my thoughts on why we are all here writing about what we have on our minds….my little series I have tried to cover all the aspects of this medium…..please I do not consider myself an expert by any stretch of the imagination…..just totting down the things that I gave from time to time…..

I believe that my readers deserve quality posts….I could write incessantly on all sorts of things but that would not be me…..I have pain issues and some days I do not feel that I can concentrate enough for good posts so when I feel good write a lot and store them in “drafts” so I have a supply of quality posts to choose from n those days.

The amount of visitors is important to all of us……I would love to have 1000+ visitors per day……but I am a realist I will never get that many in a day because I am basically a word of mouth blog……I follow most people that follow me and from time to time I will re-blog something from another blog…..that is if I think my readers will appreciate the content.

And when you get a comment like this one from a reader in the UK…it makes you feel like you are doing something right……

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog.

It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance.
I must say that you’ve done a superb job with this.
In addition, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Internet explorer.

Always nice to have your ego massaged a bit, HUH?

you are in point of fact a excellent webmaster. The web site loading velocity is incredible. It sort of feels that you’re doing any unique trick. Moreover, The contents are masterwork. you’ve done a wonderful task on this subject!.

It is visitors like these that make me feel I am doing something right.

But to some of my fellow bloggers the amount is the most important aspect of writing a blog…..and too many times they will forego substance to get that quantity.  They will change location several times in the search for that “magic” spot that will draw all the people that they desire……for me it is counter-productive because I believe that if prospective visitors have to hunt for me then they will just move on….then there are those that join all these blogging sites that promise you the world to get your cash…..and the visitors come but do they stay…..for me a visit is not as important as someone who takes the time to check the site out and even possibly a comment or two…..these people seem to be more concerned with finding people that will agree with their every word not trying to help people understand this complex world we live in……

There are my thoughts on quantity…..

Now let’s talk about quality…..this is what is most important to me……people that are not afraid to voice an opinion or the exchange of ideas…..matters not if we agree only that we are exchanging thoughts…..

Many visitors read a post to reply…..not to try and understand the concept presented.  But some read the title and make an assumption and reply which in most cases misses the point or just a try to propagate some misguided belief.

My greatest success in blogging is that I am regularly visited by my 13 yr old granddaughter and we discuss the stuff I write….we do not always agree but she is always open to new ideas and situations…..that my friends is how you spell………S-U-C-C-E-S-S!

Let me say here that none of this applies to everybody…..only my thoughts on what I have experienced in my years of writing a blog…..this is my 10th year…..

Like I have said these are just a few observations I have made over the years….I am by NO means an expert….If I were I would be making money off my writings but I am smarter than that….LOL

Up, Up And Away

For the last couple of days the news has been coming at an alarming rate…..more speculation on the Orlando attack, Brexit, a sit-in by Congress and yet the most important was not worth a mention hardly…..a missile test by North Korea.

Our arch enemy PRNK has tested another missile……

North Korea is not only continuing to defy international warnings to stop testing ballistic missiles, it’s starting to get pretty good at launching them. Relatively speaking, anyway: Pyongyang launched two intermediate-range Musudan missiles in the direction of Japan on Wednesday, reports the BBC. The first one flopped almost immediately, just like four previous launches. But the second one reached an altitude of about 620 miles before plunging into the sea, raising concern in both South Korea and Japan, reports Reuters. The missile also covered about 250 miles, getting more than halfway to Japan’s coast. The BBC notes the missile’s range is much further; it’s unclear whether it fell short due to failure or was intentionally kept from reaching Japan.

“This is a very important milestone because the previous launches had blown up either very shortly after launch or possibly even right at launch,” an analyst at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in California tells the Voice of America. “So this is a real sign of progress.” Japan’s defense chief put it more succinctly: “The threat to Japan is intensifying.” South Korea and the US are still assessing the test, but South Korean President Park Geun-hye denounced the “reckless provocation.” UN resolutions forbid the North from working on ballistic missile technology, notes the BBC, but the launches suggest that Pyongyang is having little trouble obtaining the technology and the know-how.

This one is a success and now the nations in the Pacific region are scratching their heads and wringing their hands……

Japan expressed concern about North Korea’s Wednesday Musudan missile launches, especially since one of the two made it more than halfway to Japan. But per Kim Jong Un, Japan shouldn’t be alone in its worry, the Guardian reports. “We have the sure capability to attack in an overall and practical way the Americans in the Pacific operation theater,” the North Korean leader said, per the KCNA state news agency. The BBC notes that, in theory, Musudan missiles have a range of 2,500 miles—far enough to touch down in the US territory of Guam. And while many of North Korea’s claims are usually dismissed as hyperbole or outright fabrication—and four previous missile launches this year failed—the second missile flew a confirmed 250 miles.

That missile, the New York Times points out, also reached a record altitude for North Korea at what the country reported was 878 miles (other sources, however, say 620 miles). A scientist with California’s Middlebury Institute of International Studies says the second missile appeared to have been launched purposely with a high angle so it wouldn’t reach Japan. “Had it been fired at its normal angle, it would have flown to its full range,” he notes, adding to the Wall Street Journal that, “if we do nothing, they will move on to a missile … that can reach the US.” The Times and Journal also explain that the sharp trajectory allowed for the testing of technology that makes a nuclear warhead resistant to heat when “breaching the earth’s atmosphere.”

So where’s the news?  I mean they have tested missiles before and it was a dismal failure….so what’s new, right?
