Sandersism Has Defeated Clintonism

The election of 2016 has been an interesting one on so many levels…….I guess we could call it the “insurgent election”…….two candidates with with no super-PAC took on the more establishment candidates and won handily.

But the Dem side of the ledger has been the most fascinating……the “little” guy took on the big money machine of the Clinton’s and damn well gave her a run for her money.

It has been Clintonism versus Sandersism……

Seth Abramson: The Democratic Party’s perverse obsession with closed primaries has left them with a likely nominee distinctly unpopular with the independent voters who decide national elections.

In 2008, Hillary Clinton — on her way to losing the Democratic nomination — won nine of the final 25 nominating contests. In 2016, she may well — despite being treated as the likely winner of this year’s Democratic primary by the mainstream media — win only seven or eight of the final 25 state primaries and caucuses.

If you’re wondering how Clinton could perform worse in the second half of the election cycle in 2016 than she did in 2008 and still be in a position to win, there’s a good explanation for it that goes beyond the fact that the neck-and-neck Democratic primary race we’ve had for over two months started with a brief but solid run for Clinton. In 2008, both Democratic candidates were sanctioned by Party elders, so super-delegates were free to pick whoever they thought was the stronger candidate without fear of reprisal. In 2016, super-delegates are expected to go with Clinton even if the insurgent Sanders has clearly shown himself, by mid-June, to be the stronger general-election candidate in terms of both head-to-head match-ups with Trump, favorability ratings among independent voters, and performance in the second half of the nominating season.

I know that the Clinton camp is making all kinds of concessions to Sanders in the hopes of keeping his supporters in the tent for the upcoming general election.

I am afraid that Bernie people will not feel the “love” for Clinton in the end and it could be the tilt of the election……probably not in the direction that all are hoping.

Realistic thoughts anyone?

  1. I’m keeping ‘mum’…
as the trumpeter blows his horn…. grin

  2. I believe the Clinton machine is too strong and even with Sanders’ strong and energetic supporters, the machine will endure. 🙁 The support for Hillary may weaken somewhat, while there is attention on a possible third or fourth party, giving unhappy voters some more choice beyond the Republicans and Dems.

    1. You may be right….I just do not see the Bernie supporters flocking to support Clinton…if they vote it will not be her…

      1. I don’t see that either. Personally, I’m at a loss right now. If voting was to take place tomorrow, I really don’t know which way I would go. I don’t want to not vote. And who would be on the ballot? Who knows? Maybe Bernie would be able to pull off something strong at the convention. Everyone says “the math” says it’s impossible for him. At this point, I’m anxiously awaiting that convention. It should be a doozie!

      2. Both of them may well be the only “must see” TV this Summer…..I will be posting on the “lesser of evils” sort of thing a little later….

  3. Personally, I hope this opens up more support for third parties. I would love to see more Libertarian and Green Party policies discussed in the mainstream media.

    1. Brian I appreciate your visit and your comment….and I agree with you….it is about time to put this 2 party cluster to bed…..please visit as often as you can….chuq

  4. I think the most relevant thing that will come from this election is the number of people who will finally realize the whole shebang is corrupted, and broken beyond repair. No matter who gets elected, the process has been shown to be a farce, and I predict NOBODY is going to be happy with whatever happens…

Face it, ffolkes, it’s time to start over; throw them all out, and just begin again, from scratch….

    gigoid, the dubious

    1. Damn! I agree completely. Personally I think we ought have a joint session of Congress…gas them all and send a note back home saying….”start over”….chuq

      1. And, let’s make it a new amendment that nobody, at all, can be elected to a national office if they’ve EVER been elected previously. Only amateurs allowed to serve; professional politicians need to just go away, and shoot themselves.

        gigoid

      2. I kinda like it also….every citizen gets a chance…..fair and equal….sounds like the making for a good basis for a government, huh? chuq

      3. It’s actually how our system was intended to work. All the founding fathers spoke against having a “political” class of professionals, who would immediately turn it away from being people oriented….They wanted it more like what the ancient Greeks had, I believe…

        g, td

      4. I figure the bankers were working on getting around it all before the ink on the Constitution was dry…. and, yes, we, the people, fucked up by not paying close enough attention to their lies…

  5. While she certainly has strong support (if only half-hearted support) and may possibly enough to win on Committed Delegates (aka ones produced by actual voters) by the time this is over, it has gone right to the Finish Line, perhaps even a photo-finish.

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that the Hillary-Tron 2016 will win based upon the bloated number of Super-Delegates and Establishment favouritism that often crossed the Dirty Tricks threshold.

Before the very 1st vote cast, she had 15+% of the Convention Delegates needed to win. That’s one hell of a head start! The fact Bernie can still theoretically pass her is amazing. He may walk away with nothing, but he certainly can declare a “moral victory” (aka nothing)

    1. This is one of the sticking points that some want to confront at the convention…..we will see how it works out….
