2020 Dems–Another One Bites The Dust

Slowly but slow the Dem field of candidates is getting smaller….the newest candidate to end his faltering campaign is the Mayor of NYC, Bill DeBlasio…..

Bill de Blasio’s 2020 campaign for president is over. New York City’s mayor called it quits on Friday, telling MSNBC’s Morning Joe program that “I feel like I’ve contributed all I can to this primary election, and it’s clearly not my time,” per Politico. De Blasio said the “central reason” he’s out is his inability to meet the minimum requirements to qualify for televised debates. “The bar is so high so early that for a lot of us, clearly, some of my fellow chief executives, governors couldn’t make that cut,” he said.

De Blasio, 58, says he will return to New York City to focus solely on wrapping up his second term as mayor. He is ineligible to run for a third term, but in an essay at NBC News, he writes that “fighting for working people and ensuring that New York City remains the vanguard of progressivism will continue to be my missions.” An analysis at Vox points out that de Blasio had a near-impossible task trying to compete against two other “big-name progressives,” Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

As my tradition for the 2020 election when someone leaves the campaign trail…..I will let Queen show them the political door…..exit stage left………

One Out, One In

Just a couple of days ago the first Dem had to take his leave from the 2020 campaign trail…..https://lobotero.com/2019/07/09/say-good-bye-3/

But not to worry…..the number of candidates has not changed even with the departure of Swalwell…..but how can that be?

On Monday, the crowded 2020 Democratic field was thinned by one when Eric Swalwell dropped out. On Tuesday, yet another candidate made up for it by joining the race. Tom Steyer, described by NBC News as a “billionaire activist,” made it official with this campaign launch video. His two big themes: climate change and curbing corporate influence on politics. Steyer had publicly ruled out a run in January, saying he wanted to instead keep his focus on helping impeach President Trump. Steyer, who made his money as a hedge fund manager, funds two political organizations—Need to Impeach and Next Gen America. The Washington Post expects him to lean heavily on both in an attempt to get 65,000 donors in a week in order to qualify for the second Democratic debate later this month.

“The other Democratic candidates for president have many great ideas that will absolutely move our country forward, but we won’t be able to get any of those done until we end the hostile corporate takeover of our democracy,” says Steyer in a statement. “As an outsider, I’ve led grassroots efforts that have taken on big corporations and won results for people.” The 62-year-old Californian amassed a $1.6 billion fortune through his Farallon Capital hedge fund, which he sold in 2012. One apparent reason for the change of heart about running in 2020: His backers tell the Post that he’s been unsatisfied with the current crop of Democratic candidates. Trump has previously dismissed the pro-impeachment figure as a “weirdo.”

I had not heard this news before my friend and reader of IST Doug of https://findingpoliticalsanity.com/  I appreciate him keeping me on my toes.

Like Doug said this should put the subject of impeachment in the forefront for that is about all Steyer has to say.

I am still waiting for the herd to thin and we can actually get down to issues and stop all this celeb worshiping.

Will this madness ever cease?

Where Are The Dems?

As the 2020 election kicks off we hear lots of rhetoric and promises and most importantly….LIES.

The candidates are promising to make equal pay the law of the land…..make the climate a priority……make health care possible…..yada yada…..but there is one situation that is suspiciously missing from all the rhetoric……WAR!

Where are the Dems and their answer to endless war?

There sure are lots to choose from. By now, more than 20 candidates have announced a run for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. And with national security adviser John “Regime Change” Bolton, along with the others in the four Bs cabal—Benjamin  Netanyahu of Israel, Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia and Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates—seem poised to pull President Trump into war with Iran, now would seem the time for Democratic leaders to unveil their alternative, antiwar, foreign policy plans. It’s more likely you’ll hear crickets … or a sound bite or two.

The truth is the Democratic Party, especially of late, has abandoned serious foreign policy analysis and ceded national security—and supposedly macho “toughness”—to hawkish Republicans. See, at least since Harry Truman “lost” China in 1949, one Democratic president after another has bent over backward to either prove his masculine mettle, or, better yet, to ignore global affairs altogether.

Promises are everything on the stump and very few of them ever see the light of day after the election win.

I am an antiwar activist and at least CodePink is stepping forward…..

Peace activist Medea Benjamin said Wednesday that the current political moment “is a time where we have to build up an anti-war movement again.”

Benjamin, a co-founder of the women-led advocacy organization CODEPINK, said her call is a response to the Trump administration manufacturing a crisis to push the U.S. into war with Iran.

The current situation, she told Democracy Now! Wednesday, has echoes of the lead-up to the war in Iraq because “lies” and “misinterpretations” are put out by the White House and echoed by corporate media.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/05/15/counter-trumps-hawks-codepinks-medea-benjamin-says-its-time-build-anti-war-movement

My thought is…we have had endless war since the 1950s and now is when we need the antiwar movement?….a little late.  We had a good antiwar movement but everyone let it die out and now they think we need a new one…..people like me have NEVER let it go.

To answer the question….where are the Dems on endless war?

A bipartisan letter signed by nearly 400 US Congress members is calling on President Trump to remain militarily engaged within Syria, while claiming to be “deeply concerned” about extremists in the country.

President Trump had announced a pullout from Syria in December, but had already disavowed it repeatedly by February. Still, lawmakers want to keep emphasizing how enthusiastic about the Syrian War they are, and push Trump into escalating it against various other parties.

Once a war about ISIS, the letter urges Trump to “increase pressure on Iran and Russia with respect to their activities in Syria.” The US already treated Syria as something of a proxy war, and the letter suggests they do away with all pretext and just make it into a war against Iran and Russia over Syria.

The lead signers of the letter were top party leaders and ranking committee members in both the House and the Senate. This once again underscores that on matters of war, Democrats and Republicans within leadership positions are almost completely in-line on keeping the wars going.

Centrist Dems are doing the work for the M-IC under the guise of national security……and the media is allowing them to do so.

There are candidates that are antiwar…the media does not want them to get any press but they are there…..think Tulsi Gabbard.

Once Again–More Sex

Once again it is the weekend and I needed to find something to post that did not take us back to the previous week….and I found SEX……and no it will have nothing to do with the antics of the rich and powerful……

First, it is about something I have posted on in the past…..sex love dolls…..

People say there’s no such thing as loving an inanimate object,” says James, solemnly. “I don’t necessarily think that’s true.” James is a 58-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, and the owner of four life-size dolls. Every morning he carefully gets them dressed and puts on their makeup. One day he might take them for a picnic; on another they’ll stay in and watch television. The latter involves a painstaking process where he must bend the dolls into a sitting position and adjust their eyeballs. But that’s OK, because there’s nothing James wouldn’t do for his synthetic companions, with whom he shares a bed and has sex up to four times a week.

James is among the protagonists of The Sex Robots Are Coming (30 November, 10pm, Channel 4), an investigation into the development of animatronic, AI-enabled silicone sexbots, and part of C4’s Rise of the Robots season. While James’s silicone sweethearts remain resolutely inert, change is afoot in the world of sex dolls, with a drive to make them ever more lifelike. First stop is Realbotix, the throbbing heart of the sex doll industry in San Marcos, California, where – on workstations spilling over with custom-made nipples and wobbling artificial labia – researchers are utilising new technology to persuade their dolls to smile, pout, flutter their eyelashes and tell jokes. Down in the dolls’ nether regions, heating and lubrication systems are in the early stages of development for a more “authentic” sexual experience, along with muscle spasms to simulate female orgasm. “Pubic hair is making a comeback,” offers company owner Matt, running his hand through some plastic pubes.

Digisexuality is the next thing…….there is a study….believe it or not…….

With the rise of technology, so too comes the rise of a new category of intimacy. Digisexuals, or people who primarily use technology for sexual satisfaction, could soon become more prolific in society, according to experts.

“It is safe to say the era of immersive virtual sex has arrived,” said Neil McArthur, the director of the Center for Professional and Applied Ethics at the University of Manitoba and the author of a new scientific study on digisexuality.

Second, 2020 will be an election year here in the US and as of right now there will be a porn star running for president…..

Cherie DeVille reasons that if a reality TV personality with zero previous political experience can be voted into office, then why not her? She feels just as qualified, if not more. The physical therapist has firm opinions on immigration, education, environmental reform, and how to handle the war on drugs.

She’s also a porn star.

The 39-year-old caused a bit of a stir when she, during a press conference, announced her bid to run for President of the United States in 2020. She was joined by her running mate Coolio, the rapper of “Gangsta’s Paradise” fame; Press Secretary Alix Lynx, herself a porn star as well; and DeVille’s bodyguard, the WWE wrestler Virgil, who will serve as head of security.

Closing Thought–29Nov17

The Elephant And The Donkey

For as long as I can remember the symbols of each party has been used in news stories, cartoons, everywhere…..but have you ever wondered where that symbolism came from?

Well in case you care….I can help out…..

It all started with an insult. During Andrew Jackson’s 1828 presidential campaign, his political opponents labeled him a “jackass.” Stubborn as he was, Jackson co-opted the insult and began putting a donkey on his election posters. For the rest of his career and even into his retirement, newspapers and cartoonists continued to represent Jackson either as a stubborn ass or struggling to control one.

Almost 40 years later, the donkey was used to represent not just Jackson, but a larger group of Democrats. In 1870, Thomas Nast, the German-born political cartoonist who gave us the versions of Santa Claus and Uncle Sam we know today, drew a cartoon for Harper’s Weekly titled “A Live Jackass Kicking a Dead Lion.” The donkey was a stand-in for “Copperhead Democrats” (the Northern Democrats that opposed the Civil War), and the lion represented Edwin M. Stanton, Abraham Lincoln’s recently deceased Secretary of War. Nast thought of the Copperheads as anti-Union and believed the Democratic press’s treatment of Stanton was disrespectful.

Closing Thought–14Nov17

Last week parts of the country went to the polls to elect various candidates from city council to House of Delegates….and you will not believe what happened…..Democratic Socialists made in-roads where no roads were possible just a few short years ago.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) today announced that its membership now includes 15 new elected officials. This is in addition to 20 elected already in offices around the United States. On Tuesday the DSA was represented in 25 elections across 13 different states. Four of those running have national endorsements from the DSA, and many others were supported by our local chapters.

http://www.dsausa.org/15_dsa_members_elected

Some areas have not seen a socialist elected since the days of Eugene Debs back in the early days of the 20th century.

I saw one Tweet by a mental midget on the Right who called the DSA members as “radical Marxists”……apparently this idiot knows NOTHING about DSA….they are not Marxist by any stretch of the imagination.

About time that Americans realized what a Democratic Socialists stood for…..if you listen to the half wits on the right then you will be misinformed…..DSA works for the people not the corporations…..keep that in mind and you cannot go wrong.

To learn more about the DSA…….

http://www.dsausa.org/

This is good I feel because it is allowing yet another layer of political discourse into the conversation…..and that cannot be anything but good……another way to make the republic even stronger than in the past.

Most of these position are a local sort…..can the DSA play on a wider scale?

MY day is over….I must leave my friends until tomorrow when I shall return with more stuff…..chuq

Campaign Funding

I am sure that most Americans realize just how much it costs to campaign these days.  Thanx to Citizens United it will get more and more expensive.  Think about it….last election it cost damn near a billion dollars to run for the office of president.

Personally, I would like to see all elections publicly funded….people would pay a fee as in a tax filing every year….no more dark money or PAC interference.  Each candidate would have an election budget spent however they see fit but no additional money when it is all gone.

This political system needs reforming…..it has gotten out of hand……and wasteful.

The goals behind the public financing of elections have shifted. The old dream of completely eliminating big, private money from politics has been dashed by Citizens United and other court rulings.

“It’s probably not a realistic goal in any case,” says Michael Malbin, executive director of the Campaign Finance Institute. “People who are interested in politics have many ways of influencing the political system.”

Now, the hope among some advocates of publicly financed campaigns is to impose limits on the size and scope of campaign treasuries while increasing citizen involvement. To do that, reformers are promoting the use of matching funds and so-called democracy vouchers, which allow citizens to steer government money directly to the candidates of their choice.

If we are serious about the slogan…”Of the people, by the people and for the people” then this reform is a necessity.

Of courser as badly as it is needed reform is not forthcoming…..cash can buy at lot things….can keep things as they are today.

We will truly have the “best government money can buy”…..
