Faith’s archivists

How about a little historical perspective?

We all know that the barbaric group known as ISIS has set on a path to destroy many historical sites all in the name of some BS they think is right…..the recent problems in Mali have put many ancient texts in danger and this piece is about the attempts to save them for the future….

Catholic monks in Minnesota are helping to save a trove of Islamic treasures in Mali

I have a problem with anyone that destroys a civilization’s history and heritage and I salute these brave people for their efforts to preserve the history…….may I say that it is nice to see Christians acting like Christians and not just sounding like one…….

  1. There have been many attempts over the eons of time to destroy Holy things but somehow they have always managed to be preserved one way or another. God takes care of His own somehow …. sometimes in ways beyond our ability to comprehend.

  2. SIGH….

Without going at all into the purported divinity of the artifacts being rescued, it remains a noble gesture on the part of th priests…. I also won’t comment on their actual, private motivations, as I see them…. Have you ever wondered how many plundered artifacts, from cultures other than those professing Catholicism, are stored in those catacombs underneath the Vatican? I have, and, I’ve also read of the ones they are proud to have stolen, during the years when the Europeans were running roughshod over the Indians in the Western Hemisphere….a practice they follow wherever their missionaries end up going to….

All that aside. it’s good to save cultural relics from idiots; too bad they’ll merely serve to further the enslavement of a large portion of the rest of mankind, who buy into the ridiculously vicious delusions, and. sense of entitlement as “God’s chosen People”, so brutally displayed by every “Christian” country in the world, by adding to the already outrageous amount of Humanity’s treasures they have in their possession….

I also won’t go into any of the atrocities being committed, in several places around the world, where American arms dealers have made a huge profit selling their own “objets de art” to the US Air Force. so they can drop them on unsuspecting innocents, such as the church/school in Afghanistan, and/or Palestine, etc…. How many mosques in Syria have been bombed of late; anyone know?…. I’ll bet the Palestinians do….

I’ll simply say, the entire scenario is a pathetic waste of Humanity’s time, and energy…

Pathetic, as the properly defined adjective, is correctly used, btw….

    1. The library they saved was the best of Islamic history….it would be a shame if it disappeared like the library at Alexandria….I am a book person and any attempt to save the old ones gets a thumbs up from me….chuq

      1. As I said, a noble ‘gesture’; I agree with the impulse.. My worry is what the priests will do with them; will they EVER see the light of day again? I have some doubts, as might be expected, given their history with other religious tomes and art….

      2. I agree but I think that the Malian government will have something to say…..I visited the university in Timbuktu in 1981….an amazing collection of manuscripts some going back to the 5th century AD…..just amazing….chuq

      3. No doubt; I find the ancients had learned a lot we have forgotten, or forsaken, in favor of expediency and the illusion/delusion of government…. I hope the Malians can keep their eye on the manuscripts; once they go to the Vatican, that’s the last anyone in public will see of them….

      4. I agree…..I am sure that their is someone from the university there to be sure they are handled with care and love…..chuq
