For months now the US abd its partners have been carrying out airstrikes against ISIS targets and with limited success……they hit the targets they go after but it has done little to stop the onslaught from ISIS especially in Iraq.
But the wires are all a buzz with info that could be good…….
Newser) – Iraqi officials said today that an airstrike wounded the leader of the Islamic State group, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi—but Pentagon officials say they have no immediate information on such a strike or al-Baghdadi being wounded. Iraq’s Defense and Interior Ministries issued statements saying al-Baghdadi had been wounded, without elaborating. An Interior Ministry intelligence official tells the AP that al-Baghdadi was hit during a meeting yesterday with militants in the town of Qaim in Iraq’s western Anbar province. That official and a senior Iraqi military official say the operation was carried out by Iraqi security forces. (US officials said yesterday that American airstrikes had likely hit ISIS leaders.)
Al-Baghdadi, an ambitious Iraqi militant believed to be in his early 40s, has a $10 million US bounty on his head. Since taking the reins of the group in 2010, he has transformed it from a local branch of al-Qaeda into an independent transnational military force, positioning himself as perhaps the pre-eminent figure in the global jihadi community. Meanwhile, Islamic militants have taken over the Libyan city of Darma, making it the first city outside of Iraq and Syria to join the “caliphate” announced by the Islamic State, the AP reports. Long notorious as Libya’s center for jihadi radicals, the city has seen religious courts ordering killings in public, floggings of residents accused of violating Shariah law, as well as enforced segregation of male and female students.
This is not confirmed…..and Iraq has put out stories, success stories that have not been accurate in the past…….
As a blogger that does not like to pass on lies and misinformation….I went on a tear on Arabic news sources looking for that second confirmation…..after a couple of hours I found it on Arabic site, al-Akhbar…….
An aide to Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been killed in an airstrike near the city of Fallujah, Iraqi state television reported on Monday.
State television identified the man as Abu Huthaifa al-Yamani. It did not say when the strike took place or give further details. It was not immediately possible to confirm the death or whether Yamani was an aide to Baghdadi.
Contradictory reports have emerged over the fate of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi after US-led airstrikes against the group in Iraq on Friday.
That was my second source…..but knowing the sitation….I am still not convinced that these reports are accurate…..most likely some sort of disinformation ploy……
The question that will be asked is…..if true will this be a game changer for the conflict with ISIS?
Let me be one of the first to answer…..if true the generals running his battle plan will have been prepared for this eventuality and will adjust their their plan accordingly.
I will continue to monitor the situation for more news on this event…….
Please stay tuned……
