A Trump Presidential Library

Closing Thought–11Feb21

First of all what is a presidential library?

Presidential Libraries are archives and museums, bringing together the documents and artifacts of a President and his administration and presenting them to the public for study and discussion without regard for political considerations or affiliations. Presidential Libraries and Museums, like their holdings, belong to the American people.

Many Presidential papers and records had been lost, destroyed, sold for profit, or ruined by poor storage conditions. In 1939, President Franklin D. Roosevelt sought a better alternative.

Congress legislated this policy, passing the Presidential Libraries Act in 1955. Through archives, museums, and public programs, Presidential Libraries continue to preserve the documents and artifacts of our Presidents, helping us learn about our nation and our democracy.

In short it is a storage vessel for all the presidential papers and awards and such…..and full owned by the people of the US through the National Archives.

Now that you know what these are the next question will be will Trump build a library?

Since most of his “actions” were Executive Orders so that he could pull an end run on Congress….maybe he will just paper a wall or two with the orders….since he signed few actual laws passed by Congress the library will be a very small place like the man that held the office of president in the last four years.

Then most of his policies were in Tweets then another room with his Tweets reproduced on a wall….

These places are for research and education….so what will be in a Trump library?

Since presidents worry about their legacy…..the library becomes one way to influence and control that legacy.

Presidential libraries are perfect examples of just how far presidents will go to control their own legacies. Since the first one was created in 1941, what were intended to be serious research centers have grown into flashy, partisan temples touting huckster history. Built with undisclosed, unlimited donations, often to sitting presidents, libraries have traditionally been donated to the government after their construction. But even though they are taxpayer-funded and controlled by a federal agency, the private foundations established by former presidents to build the libraries retain outsize influence. The libraries’ whitewashed exhibits are created by presidential boosters; they host political events; their boards are stacked with loyalists; and many of their important historical records may never see the light of day.

The federal government spends about $100 million a year operating, maintaining and improving presidential libraries. But the costs to build and equip them—which have doubled for each successive president in the past 30 years and now run in excess of $500 million—must come from non-federal sources. That’s not a sum one can raise through $25 internet donations; presidential libraries are funded by mega-donors.

Trump does have mega-donors…..but will they come to the rescue of a Trump Library?

Sadly I cannot think of much that will go into a library to preserve Trump’s legacy….if it helps whitewash his legacy then the library would be one or two rooms at most…..or a broom closet with a laptop on a small table.

There has an opinion piece that basically states that there will be NO Trump presidential library….

Every president since FDR has had a presidential library, and Barack Obama is currently working on his version of one to continue the tradition. What about Donald Trump? The Washington Post reported earlier this month that Trump likes the idea of raising $2 billion from his grass-roots supporters and opening one in Florida. But in a lengthy piece at Politico, Anthony Clark—author of a book on presidential libraries—assesses the chances and concludes that a Trump library probably won’t happen. No, it’s not because Trump famously doesn’t spend time reading books—”presidential libraries aren’t that kind of library,” notes Clark—or because of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. It’s because the process is way more expensive and complicated than you might think, and the particulars don’t seem well suited to Trump.

“If he does build a library, it’s likely Trump would want the legitimacy and imprimatur of the federal government, as a ‘seal of approval’ for his story, told his way,” writes Clark. For that to happen, Trump would have to raise the money, buy the land, have it built, raise hundreds of millions more for maintenance—”and give it, almost unthinkably, to the government.” Trump also could opt to go his own way, outside the National Archives system, as Obama is attempting to do. But the upkeep gets expensive in perpetuity, as the Richard Nixon library (which started independent, then joined the rest) found out. Clark floats the idea that Trump might take a more “Trumpian” route: He could license his name to “a for-profit enterprise—maybe a casino, or a golf course, or a ticketed museum with an attached hotel—to operate as a tourist attraction for the MAGAs and the (morbidly) curious.” (Read the full story

The apathy is deafening!

I never have been what some would called a “popular” information blog but I do have a core followers of about 4100….followers that stay once they follow. I know that is not breaking any records for a blog but it makes me happy that people come and stay for the most part.

I have noticed that during the so-called ‘insurrection’ my numbers shot up but now that that event is been lowered in interests the number have fallen back to normal range.

Once Biden was close to taking that oath people showed much interest and now that that event has come and gone the interests in events has subsided.

I am trying to educate my readers on what to expect from a Biden administration…..I am getting push back for most people are of the mind of Trump was beaten and now gone (but not to be forgotten)…..

I am trying to point out that while we changed the person occupying the throne of power that very little will change…..those endless wars will continue, wasting of money on bigger and better weapons, the health system will continue as it is with higher drug prices and the insurance industry in control, infrastructure will continue to suffer and that unity that all politicians desire will be fleeting at best….in short your life will continue as it is today.

NO one seems to give a crap!

Yes we have ridden ourselves of the slug that proceeded Biden….that is the only change we will get.

The truth is I am bored!

Biden does that for me…..I was bored with him the first time he ran for president back in 1987….and I have seen nothing to change my opinion in all those years.

Since I am bored with our politics and few people seem to give a sh*t I have decided to slow my roll on posts….I will step back for a few weeks and post a limited amount on a daily basis.

I am not going away just stepping back for awhile…there is only so much I can say to educate the reader on Biden for most do not care….Trump is gone and that is all that matter in 2020.

The concern should be for the future of this country and yet apathy runs rampant….that is troubling for me.

Of course that will change as events warrant.

Trump’s Final Approval

Closing Thought–20Jan21

He has left the building…and the fumigation has begun.

AS the Trump imperial presidency draws to a close…..time to look at his final approval rating.

As he gets ready to head out of the Oval Office and back to life as a private citizen, President Trump just received his final report card—and Gallup notes he’s leaving “on a personal low note.” In a survey of 1,023 random American adults taken Jan. 4-15, only 34% gave him a thumbs-up for the job he’s doing, the lowest score of his presidency, and one point lower than the 35% he hit several times in 2017, such as after the deadly white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Va. The outgoing commander in chief’s overall average approval rating of 41% for his entire presidency is 4 points lower than any other president has received in Gallup’s history. And, in a sign of our polarized times, there was a historic 81-percentage-point average gap—more like a chasm—between Democrats and Republicans; the previous record had been 70 percentage points.

Only Harry Truman left with a lower rating, at 32%. Trump tied with Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush for second lowest. Trump is the only president since the analytics company started registering presidential job approval in 1938 to not get over the 50% hump at any point; a 45% rating during his first year was his best. He did get close in 2020, hitting 49% a few times after his first impeachment but before the pandemic began. What did him in toward the end of his tenure, per Gallup: his refusal to concede the election, the continued COVID death toll, the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and an unprecedented second impeachment. The numbers are slightly better for him in a final NBC News poll, which surveyed 1,000 registered voters between Jan. 10-13. Trump ends with a 43% approval rating, though nearly half rank him as “definitely worse than most presidents.”

The worse approval since Harry Truman….how pathetic is that?

Say good-bye to inept president….hopefully we can do better with Biden.

But will we?

A majority of American voters surveyed in the wake of the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol believe that twice-impeached President Donald Trump should be barred from ever running for office again, according to polling results reported exclusively by The Hill on Tuesday, his last full day in office.

The survey was conducted by the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and the Harris Poll from January 12 to 14; it found that 57% of U.S. voters think Trump—who entered politics in 2015 to run for president—shouldn’t be allowed to seek office in the future, compared with 43% who don’t support such a ban.

Really?

After all the crap in the past 4 years and only 57% is the best we can muster?

Is There a “Texit”?

Closing Thought–19Jan21

We have heard of Brexit where the UK will leave the European Union (EU)….and there has been rumblings of secession here in the US.

secession refers to a big break-up — a formal split, an official “Good-bye to you!” — among political entities.

Secession occurs when persons in a country or state declare their independence from the ruling government. When a dissatisfied group secedes, it creates its own form of government in place of the former ruling government. Secessions are serious maneuvers that lead to, or arise from, military conflict.

I have given my thoughts on the threat in previous posts…..https://lobotero.com/2021/01/06/secession-again/ Any background to this is within the post.

Now after the violence and destruction that occurred at the Capitol on 06 January the home of Ted Cruz, Texas is thumping its chest yet again….

On the second Saturday of every month, Karl Gleim marches at the Alamo battle site in San Antonio. He lays a ceremonial wreath to mark Texas’ fight for independence from Mexico in 1836 and the Texas secession effort he supports today.

“It’s not any particular president or political party or any particular person who’s either an idiot or not, as the case may be, whatever,” said Gleim, a retiree who started his monthly marches at the Alamo eight years ago.

“My opinion is, I’m tired of the BS and the stuff that’s been going on for so long and looking at the idiots we’ve been dealing with in Washington for so long,” he said. “Screw that. We can do better than that, locally.”

Texit, as it’s become known, is poised for a major boost this week with the expected introduction of a bill in the state legislature to put the question of secession to voters in a November 2021 ballot referendum.

I say let them go if that is the wishes of the people…..they will come back.

Have you gotten your stim check?

Some of us we wanting the $2000 and got $600.

The promise was that there may be a further expanding of the stim packages….the possible good news is we may yet get that $2000.

It got a little lost in the shuffle of Wednesday’s chaos in DC, but the pair of Democratic Senate wins in Georgia means that Americans might get $2,000 in COVID relief checks after all. In this case, that would likely mean an additional payment of $1,400 on top of the $600 that started going out late last month. “One of the first things that I want to do when our new senators are seated is deliver the $2,000 checks to American families,” Chuck Schumer said on Wednesday, per MarketWatch. Schumer is poised to become the Senate majority leader now that Democrats will have control. When this might happen remains unclear, notes the Washington Post. For one thing, the Georgia races still must be certified, and it’s possible Republican challenges will arise.

In December, Republicans led by Mitch McConnell blocked the additional money in the Senate, recounts Fox News. At the conservative Hot Air, Ed Morrissey suggests it was a blunder that might have cost Republicans control of the Senate. “Had McConnell just allowed HR9051 to get a floor vote, perhaps it might have been enough for David Perdue to win his runoff against Jon Ossoff,” he writes. “Alas, we’ll never know.” Not surprisingly, Nancy Pelosi says the House is on board with the bigger checks, as it was last month. In the first weeks of the Joe Biden administration, “we will pursue a science- and values-based plan to crush the virus and deliver relief to struggling families,” she says.

It is time to get serious about an economic recovery during this pandemic.

Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, Radcliffe, has made an extraordinary claim and it concerns China……

Has China discovered a super-soldier formula through the capabilities of genetic engineering? A U.S. government official claims this is exactly what is happening.

Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe penned an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal that claims the Chinese government is attempting to enhance the capabilities of soldiers through genetic engineering. It’s not the first time such a claim has been made. Ratcliffe’s article, cited in an NBC report, outlined his belief that China is the greatest threat to the United States in terms of military and economic power.

Ratcliffe’s concerns build on theories raised in 2019 about China’s capabilities with CRISPR, particularly after Chinese researcher He Jiankui used CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing to alter the DNA of embryos for seven couples in 2018. Although international outrage resulted in Jiankui’s incarceration in China, Ratcliffe suggested the Chinese government would attempt to capitalize on these capabilities with gene editing and continue to experiment on adults to create biometrically advanced super soldiers the likes we have seen only in movies.

https://www.biospace.com/article/is-china-using-crispr-to-create-super-soldiers-/

Is this true?

Or is it just more chest thumping against China by the Trump admin?

I do not doubt that China would try such a thing….but accusation is not proof….I will wait for the proof.

And yet the US is mobilizing for a large scale war….China is the first suspect…,but there are others….

The US military is investing heavily in preparing for large-scale combat operations. These operations, pitting the US armed forces against peer or near-peer adversaries, would require large numbers of troops, would almost certainly be expensive, and would risk high numbers of casualties. In other words, major war. But even if the US military is prepared, the American people aren’t. This is a problem.

A major war, fueled by rising competition between great powers, is certainly not guaranteed. Any geopolitical gains made would likely be offset by high casualties and the risk of a nuclear exchange. However, miscalculation and misperception could inadvertently lead to a dangerously escalatory armed clash. Military establishments the world over, and especially in the United States, are assiduously preparing for the possibility.

https://mwi.usma.edu/making-the-case-for-war/

And a now familiar tactic by the DoD….China is offering bounties for American troops…..

Months after an unsubstantiated claim about Russia paying bounties to the Taliban to kill US troops spread like wildfire, a similar claim about China is being reported by Axios.

The Axios report published on Wednesday cites two unnamed Trump administration officials. According to the officials, the Trump administration is declassifying “uncorroborated intelligence” that “indicates China offered to pay non-state actors in Afghanistan to attack American soldiers.”

The report says President Trump was verbally briefed on the uncorroborated intelligence by National Security Robert O’Brien, and officials across all agencies are working to “corroborate” the intelligence.

There are few details in the report of what the uncorroborated intelligence actually says. Axios was unable to see any of the intelligence reports and received the information from sources in a phone call.

One source said: “The US has evidence that the PRC [People’s Republic of China] attempted to finance attacks on American servicemen by Afghan non-state actors by offering financial incentives or ‘bounties.’” The sources did not say if the “non-state” actors included the Taliban or not.

The only info Axios could get was that the alleged bounty scheme happened sometime after the US-Taliban peace deal was signed in February. Since the deal was signed on February 29th, no US troops have been killed in combat-related incidents in Afghanistan.

Deja vu all over again.

But not to worry…..we have a new president waiting in the wings to change the trajectory of our foreign policy…..Joe Biden will be better…..

Well that statement is pure manure……Joe Biden will change little….

Joe Biden stressed the need for “modernizing” US defense capabilities in the face of threats from China and Russia. Biden also addressed the recently discovered hack of the software company SolarWinds that affected several government agencies.

Biden said he spoke with a member of his transition team about the “different strategic challenges we’re gonna face from both Russia and China and the reforms we must make to put ourselves in the strongest possible position to meet those challenges.” He said those reforms include “modernizing our defense priorities to better deter aggression in the future.”

“We have to be able to innovate, to reimagine our defenses against growing threats in new realms like cyberspace,” Biden said. “We’re still learning about the extent of the SolarWinds hack and the vulnerabilities that have been exposed. As I said last week, this attack constitutes a grave risk to our national security.”

In comments last week, Biden slammed President Trump for not prioritizing cybersecurity and, like many have, blamed Russia for the SolarWinds hack, despite a lack of evidence that Moscow was involved. The former vice president has also vowed retaliation for the SolarWinds hack, and Biden’s chief of staff said the incoming administration’s response would be more than “just sanctions.”

(antiwar.com)

You see if you were hoping for sanity in our defense posturing then you will be sadly disappointed.

There is another situation that could lead to problems shortly…..

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has re-awoken to a profound truth: Rich, secure capitalists are the natural enemies of authoritarian regimes. In a hybrid autocratic-capitalist model, capitalism is the means to generate wealth, but power is the end goal. Successful capitalists naturally begin to demand that their personal and property rights be protected from authoritarian fiat. Capital in the hands of entrepreneurs is a political resource; it poses a threat to the implementation of centralized plans.

Realizing this, the CCP has begun to assert control over the private sector by “installing . . . Party officials inside private firms” and having state-backed firms invest in private enterprises. In the absence of civil rights or an independent judiciary, “private” companies have no real independence from the government in China. Dissent and demands for civil rights are a threat to the regime and will be crushed.

China’s shift from encouraging external investment and internal market competition toward treating capitalism as a threat has an obvious historical precedent. From 1921–1928, the Soviet Union instituted a policy of economic liberalization, which allowed for the privatization of agriculture, retail trade, and light industry. This partial and temporary return to a controlled and limited capitalism, known as the New Economic Policy (NEP), saved the Soviet economy from collapse and enabled Russia to modernize. But, in 1928, Stalin suddenly reversed course: He collectivized agriculture and liquidated the most prosperous farmers, thereby necessitating the frequent resort to grain imports, notably from the United States.

Your Checks Are In The Mail

Closing Thought–04Jan21

This is what Bernie had to say about the pittance stim checks on the floor of the Senate…..

Sorry it is a bit lengthy but it is well worth watching……

I agree with Bernie….the smallness of the checks is pathetic but as they say “every little bit helps”….my favorite  thought is….

“All of a sudden, Mitch McConnell is ‘worried’ about giving a $2,000 check to someone who ‘doesn’t need it,'” Sanders tweeted Thursday. “That’s funny. He had no problem giving a $560 million tax break to Sheldon Adelson who is worth $34.3 billion. Total hypocrisy! Let the Senate vote on $2,000 now, Mitch.”

It will be interesting to see how the pandemic stim plays out in 2021.

The one thing I think will appear once again…..fiscal conservs without Trump will find their moronic voice.

Back in the 1980s the Reagan admin had this enormous hard on for Qaddafi…..he even got one of his top generals to sign on as a CIA asset in the covert war with the Libyan leader…..that did not work so well…..Haftar, the general, and his men were sent to the US to live off the government tit for 30+ years…..and then the revolution in 2011 in Libya gave the CIA their chance to put their man to work.

Qaddifi dies and the country slides into chaos, a typical condition when the West intervenes where they do not belong, after a decade of fighting Haftar has control over the Eastern part of Libya and all its oil wealth……and what does Haftar do with the cash? Does he make the lives of his fellow Libyans better?

Nope…he goes on a real estate shopping spree in the US…..

Libyan Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar owns real estate assets worth millions of dollars in the United States, reported the Arabic language service of Anadolu Agency.

Haftar fell out with Muammar Gaddafi in the late 1980s and lived in Virginia, before returning to Libya during the 2011 revolution.

He has bought 17 properties registered in his name in the US state, using funds he smuggled out of Libya, according to the agency’s sources.

Among Haftar’s assets in Virginia is a home and a farm in Falls Church. He also paid $8m in cash to purchase one of the other alleged assets and a 5,600 sq m house worth $2.5m in Great Falls, Montana.

Last July, Haftar bought a horse farm worth $700,000 in Boise City, Oklahoma, said Anadolu Agency.

Barr leaves the admin for better days?

Trump’s Pit Bull has decided he has had enough or was it Trump that it was time for him to go spend time with his family?

Minutes after California’s Electoral College votes made President-elect Joe Biden’s victory official, President Trump made a big announcement—but it wasn’t a concession. Trump said Attorney General William Barr has resigned and will be leaving his administration as of Dec. 23, reports Reuters. “Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House,” Trump tweeted. “Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job!” Trump said Barr “will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family” and Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen will become acting attorney general.

Sources tell the AP that Trump spent most of Monday watching Electoral College results and calling allies, but broke away to meet Barr. In a resignation letter shared by Trump, Barr said he had updated the president on his “review of voter fraud allegations in the 2020 election and how these allegations will continue to be pursued.” Barr told Trump he was “proud to have played a role in the many successes and unprecedented achievements you have delivered for the American people.” The resignation follows tension between Trump and Barr over the president’s election fraud claims and Barr’s refusal to disclose investigations of Hunter Biden’s finances during the campaign

My Representative, Palazzo The Corrupt

Closing Thought–14Dec20

My House Representative for South Mississippi is one Steven Palazzo and he has been caught using campaign cash for personal expenses…..

According to a report from Roll Call Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-MS) is being investigated for diverting over $230,000 in campaign funds to make car payments, pay for home and business repairs and employ family members.

While a spokesperson for the House Ethics Committee refused to comment on allegations made against the GOP lawmaker, he admitted that he is being investigated for expenditures that date back to 2010.

ne complaint dates back to March of last year, when Palazzo was accused of spending “$60,000 in campaign expenditures to rent a farm, Greene Acres LLC, and $127,000 to pay an accounting firm Palazzo founded that is now run by his former wife,” reports Roll Call.

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/12/mississippi-goper-busted-for-spending-over-230000-in-campaign-funds-on-car-payments-home-maintenance/

Since he won the House seat from Gene Taylor in 2010 I have not been a fan…..for me he is a worthless yes man that does what the Party wants and not what the people of South Mississippi that he represents needs.

He just won re-election and still has support from morons that will let a crook and spineless politician run their families for them.

He will probably say “My Bad” and be allowed to pay the money back…..I say f*ck him…he committed a crime he should be thrown out of the House.

Plus he is one of the 126 House members that have stated the the election should be overturned…..this also should eliminate this douche from ever representing the people of Mississippi .

Apparently he is in Congress to feather his nest and not represent the people of his district…..and yet he gets re-elected….”Ain’t No Fixin’ Stupid”
