Closing Thought–15Dec20

Barr leaves the admin for better days?

Trump’s Pit Bull has decided he has had enough or was it Trump that it was time for him to go spend time with his family?

Minutes after California’s Electoral College votes made President-elect Joe Biden’s victory official, President Trump made a big announcement—but it wasn’t a concession. Trump said Attorney General William Barr has resigned and will be leaving his administration as of Dec. 23, reports Reuters. “Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House,” Trump tweeted. “Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job!” Trump said Barr “will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family” and Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen will become acting attorney general.

Sources tell the AP that Trump spent most of Monday watching Electoral College results and calling allies, but broke away to meet Barr. In a resignation letter shared by Trump, Barr said he had updated the president on his “review of voter fraud allegations in the 2020 election and how these allegations will continue to be pursued.” Barr told Trump he was “proud to have played a role in the many successes and unprecedented achievements you have delivered for the American people.” The resignation follows tension between Trump and Barr over the president’s election fraud claims and Barr’s refusal to disclose investigations of Hunter Biden’s finances during the campaign

My Representative, Palazzo The Corrupt

Closing Thought–14Dec20

My House Representative for South Mississippi is one Steven Palazzo and he has been caught using campaign cash for personal expenses…..

According to a report from Roll Call Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-MS) is being investigated for diverting over $230,000 in campaign funds to make car payments, pay for home and business repairs and employ family members.

While a spokesperson for the House Ethics Committee refused to comment on allegations made against the GOP lawmaker, he admitted that he is being investigated for expenditures that date back to 2010.

ne complaint dates back to March of last year, when Palazzo was accused of spending “$60,000 in campaign expenditures to rent a farm, Greene Acres LLC, and $127,000 to pay an accounting firm Palazzo founded that is now run by his former wife,” reports Roll Call.

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/12/mississippi-goper-busted-for-spending-over-230000-in-campaign-funds-on-car-payments-home-maintenance/

Since he won the House seat from Gene Taylor in 2010 I have not been a fan…..for me he is a worthless yes man that does what the Party wants and not what the people of South Mississippi that he represents needs.

He just won re-election and still has support from morons that will let a crook and spineless politician run their families for them.

He will probably say “My Bad” and be allowed to pay the money back…..I say f*ck him…he committed a crime he should be thrown out of the House.

Plus he is one of the 126 House members that have stated the the election should be overturned…..this also should eliminate this douche from ever representing the people of Mississippi .

Apparently he is in Congress to feather his nest and not represent the people of his district…..and yet he gets re-elected….”Ain’t No Fixin’ Stupid”

Money Well Spent

Closing Thought–10Dec20

I am always going on and on about the money that government pisses away….and sadly the US government is not the only waster of taxpayer cash…..

This story about Venice……that is in Italy not Florida…..

St. Mark’s Square in Venice was submerged on Tuesday, and an incorrect forecast may be to blame. The city has since October had an experimental system of inflatable barriers in place to prevent flooding. Thing is, the $8 billion system is activated when high tides are expected to reach a minimum of 4 feet, 4 inches. On Tuesday, the waters were predicted to hit just 4 feet, 1 inch, below the activation threshold. But they reached just over 4 feet, 6 inches, flooding shops and restaurants. Stronger-than-expected winds are apparently to blame for the elevated tides. “Unfortunately, the weather is freer than us. It does what it wants,” said Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro. The AFP notes the city’s lowest point is St. Mark’s Square, which sits roughly three feet above sea level.

The AP reports Venice suffered its worst flooding in half a century a year ago, when high tides hit 6.5 feet. The barriers—78 moveable ones—can safeguard the city from tides of up to 10 feet and is designed to be readied in just 30 minutes. But the Guardian explains that by the time the water reached the lagoon Tuesday morning, it was too late to get the system up and running. That system is known as MOSE (that’s (MOdulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico, or Experimental Electromechanical Module), a nod to the Biblical figure Moses, who parted the waters of the Red Sea. Brugnaro commented on the learnings from Tuesday’s flooding, “To activate MOSE a bigger forecast is necessary. We will have to review the rules of the command post.”

Good to know that it seems to be a human trait no matter which side of the pond they are on.

Let’s talk about HHS…Department of Health and Human Services….it is in control of Social Security, Medicare, etc…..first the good news…..

The idiot in charge of the Trumpian HHS, Atlas, has resigned…..

A special adviser to President Trump on the pandemic, who had been criticized for his views on stopping the spread of the coronavirus, resigned Monday. Dr. Scott Atlas, who is not an infectious disease expert, got the job in August after Trump saw his appearances on Fox News, the Hill reports. During his brief tenure, Atlas told the people of Michigan they should “rise up” against coronavirus restrictions, criticized restrictions on Russian state television, and posted on Twitter that face masks don’t work—a tweet that was blocked. In his resignation letter, per Fox, he told Trump, “As time went on, like all scientists and health policy scholars, I learned new information and synthesized the latest data from around the world, all in an effort to provide you with the best information to serve the greater public good.”

As a special government employee, Atlas was hired for a 130-day tenure that would have ended this week. He made his resignation effective Tuesday. The neuroradiologist had butted heads with White House Coronavirus Task Force members, including Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx, per the AP. Before the holiday, per NBC, he suggested Americans enjoy Thanksgiving in large groups because it might be the last one for some people. Atlas’ other employer, Stanford University, at one point issued a statement disavowing his positions. Atlas “has expressed views that are inconsistent with the university’s approach in response to the pandemic,” Stanford said, while confirming that it supports “using masks, social distancing, and conducting surveillance and diagnostic testing.”

Good riddance!

Now the bad news….HHS has won the Golden Horseshoe Award for pissing away taxpayer cash…..

The Golden Horseshoe is a weekly designation from Just the News intended to highlight egregious examples of wasteful taxpayer spending by the government. The award is named for the horseshoe-shaped toilet seats for military airplanes that cost the Pentagon a whopping $640 each back in the 1980s.

This week, our award goes to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for spending $106.7 billion on improper payments during 2019.

Improper payments are defined under federal law as “payments made by the government to the wrong person, in the wrong amount, or for the wrong reason.”

https://justthenews.com/accountability/waste-fraud-and-abuse/hold-hhs-spent-1067-billion-improper-payments-2019-less-15

This award use to be named the “Golden Fleece Award”….why cannot the taxpayer recovery the cash that idiot piss away?

Time to re-write the rules for proper execution of governmental programs….

A pipe dream on my part I know….but it feels good to rant.

Where’s The Wanker?

Closing Thought–01Dec20

We begin a new month and I just had to kick it off with a bit of weird news.

A large phallic statue in Germany has gone missing…..

German police have launched an investigation into the disappearance of a peculiar phallic-shaped sculpture from a mountainside in Bavaria, local media say.

The two-metre tall (6.5ft) wooden statue was apparently chopped down over the weekend, the Allgaeuer Zeitung newspaper reported.

The statue stood for years on the Grünten mountain, south-west of Munich.

Now, all that remains of the monument is a small stump and some wood chips.

It is not known who originally carved and erected the sculpture, which has become a landmark on the 1,738m-high (5,702ft) Grünten mountain, attracting many hikers to the area.

Even online map service Google Maps had recognised the sculpture’s status, designating it as a “cultural monument”.

No-one knows how the 200kg (440lbs) sculpture was hauled up the mountain either.

Another Covid Victim

Closing Thought–27Nov20

So far the pandemic has 12.9 million cases and claimed the lives of 260,000+

And yet it rages on and on…..and news has come out that there is yet another victim of the pandemic…..and it is a BIG victim….Mardi Gras….at least in the city of New Orleans…..

Though COVID-19 may be complicating celebrations and gatherings for this upcoming holiday season, the City of New Orleans is taking safety precautions into 2021.

Beau Tidwell, Communications director for New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, stated during a press conference on Tuesday that while Mardi Gras celebrations aren’t necessarily cancelled, the traditional practices are sure to look different next year. The city can’t exactly cancel all celebrations of Mardi Gras, given that it is a religious holiday, but those looking to don their beads for the large crowds may have to modify their plans for the February event.

ccording to the official New Orleans website, Mardi Gras celebrations in 2021 will not feature the typical crowded parades.

“Parades of any kind will not be permitted this year because large gatherings have proven to be super spreader events of the COVID-19 virus,” the city’s FAQ reads.

In addition to modifying their Mardi Gras plans, NOLA officials urge celebrators to abide by all local and state COVID-19 guidelines such as maintaining social distance and correctly wearing face masks.

“While we certainly want to move forward and find ways that we can celebrate, and we can mark this occasion, we have to do it safely,” Tidwell continued during the press conference.

Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans have not only become a staple in Louisiana culture but have also attracted visitors from all over the world. As of Tuesday, New Orleans is experiencing an outbreak or is at extreme risk, officials shared.

(deadline.com)

This will cost the city many many millions in revenues….

There are parades for Mardi Gras all along the Gulf Coast and it will be interesting to see how other cities handle this killer…..

No word yet from the cities along the Mississippi Coast that hold these Mardi Gras parades……

That “My Pillow” Guy

Closing Thought–24Nov20

We all have seen the lousy commercials of some nobody trying desperately to sell his pillows….and now other types of bedding….his name is Mike Lindell.

Well Mikey has made the news other than being a knee pad wearing Trump supporter…..he now has assisted the killer in Kenosha get out of jail……

A spokesman for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department said Kyle Rittenhouse posted a $2 million bond Friday afternoon and was released from the Kenosha County Detention Center.

“He was turned over to his own security detail arranged by his attorney and is no longer in our custody,” said Sgt. David Wright of the Sheriff’s Department.

The 17-year-old has been held at the Kenosha County Detention Center since his extradition from Illinois on Oct. 30. Rittenhouse is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide and attempted first-degree homicide after shooting three men during protests in Kenosha on Aug. 25. Two men – Anthony Huber of Silver Lake and Joseph Rosenbaum of Kenosha – were killed. Gaige Grosskreutz of West Allis was seriously injured.

“Rittenhouse’s case has become a political lightning rod, with gun-rights activists and conservatives calling Rittenhouse a hero, while those on the left see his case as an example of the danger of right-wing militias,” the Kenosha News reported.

The Tweet is as follows…..

KYLE RITTENHOUSE IS OUT OF JAIL. God bless ALL who donated to help #FightBack raise required $2M cash bail. Special thanks to Actor Ricky Schroder @rickyshroder1 & Mike Lindell @realMikeLindell for putting us over the top. Kyle is SAFE. Thanks to ALL who helped this boy.

There you go Lindell and that little shit from TV Ricky Shroder…helped a murdering twat get out of jail to plan his next killing no doubt…..

There you have the society in a nutshell…..donations to get a murdering bastard out of jail because he is a hater and Trumpians love them some haters.

Personally I think the little bastard that used his stim check to buy his gun should rot in prison surrounded by pedophiles.

And buying one of those useless pillows is out of the question as well.  (In case you were not sure)

Another Pandemic Side Effect

Closing Thought–20Nov20

There are many side effects of the pandemic that is ravaging the planet. All things you can imagine but the one the most got my attention was something that the nation had been trying to stamp out for decades….smoking.

Jamie Hickey, a 41-year-old personal trainer based in Pennsylvania, hadn’t smoked in eight years, but he caved when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. “The boredom was the biggest part of it — just wanting something to do,” he said. “It broke up the monotony of the day, and if we weren’t in quarantine, I don’t think I would’ve ever gone back.”

The pandemic has encouraged us to pick up some pretty bad habits: bingeing (of television, food, and alcohol varieties), ghosting, doomscrolling, impulse shopping — but one that seems particularly counterintuitive is smoking. The choice to smoke feels strange right now for so many reasons: It’s an unnecessary expense in a time that has made our wallets tight, nicotine withdrawals can make users jittery, and it puts our lung health at risk.

We still are in the dark about some aspects of the coronavirus, but we know that it has taken the lives of more than 240,000 Americans and that it generally affects the ability of an infected person to breathe comfortably. At the beginning of the pandemic, being put on a ventilator was the death knell for thousands of people who were struggling with virus-related respiratory issues. A World Health Organization study found a “statistically significant association between smoking status and primary endpoints of admission to Intensive Care Unit (ICU), ventilator use or death” in Covid-19 patients.

Now I await the next round of anti-smoking propaganda….but it will have to wait until the anti-vaping ads run their course.

Whatever happened to “this is your brain on drugs”?

“De-Fund The Police”

Closing Thought–24Jun20

This one term has had a profound effect on the psyche of Americans….from reforms and change to they want to disband the police…..

In my opinion it is the worse possible term to use at this time in our evolving history.

Sorry to my die hard “law and order” readers but the police needs to change……they no long protect and serve but rather look like they are there to “punish and enslave”…..

But is there a way that a my responsive police department can be resurrected from the ruins of their history?

The vague and easily misinterpreted call to Defund the Police has been spreading quickly across the USA. Some may have a knee-jerk reaction to “just say no” to this call, but polls show a vast majority of Americans are concerned about improving the lives of people of color across the country. Reforms such as teaching police to de-escalate conflicts and enforcement of body camera use have support of about 90% of Americans. So, what could solutions to the current situation look like, how could they be paid for, and should relative costs realistically be coming out of police budgets?

Here are some steps you can take to make a difference:

educate yourself about public budgets, and how they can be improved
find out where and when relevant decisions are made, go there and be vocal
influence the media by writing to the press, being active on social media
mobilize your family and friends to take action with you
ensure that alternative solutions are created, proposed, and heard

Why and How to Defund the Police

I wrote about this on my op-ed blog, Gulf South Free Press……https://gulfsouthfreepress.wordpress.com/2020/06/11/what-does-de-fund-mean/

For example……how much has been given to PDs in military stuff?

According to a CNN analysis of federal data, the Department of Defense (DoD) has sent at least $760 million worth of military equipment to local law enforcement agencies since August 2017. This includes $5.3 million of gear used to quell protests, such as riot shields, gas masks, tasers, and other materials local law enforcement requested for “crowd control.”

Across the country, more than 8,000 police departments have been suppled with such equipment, at no cost, through the 1033 program, which allows the DoD to donate surplus combat material to law enforcement agencies.

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2020/06/24/pros-j24.html

That needs to cease NOW!

Society cannot wait any longer….police reform is needed now and any postponement will only matter matters worse the next time.

Citizens want reform and change now….and they have taken to the streets….

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research surveyed 1,301 adults between June 11 and 15 and found majorities “overwhelmingly” in favor of a number of proposed reforms to the U.S. policing system.

Nearly nine in 10 Americans are calling for requirements that police officers use body cameras and 86% say clear standards must be established and enforced regarding the use of force by police. Just five years ago, Americans were far less likely to say police violence was a serious problem facing the country.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/06/23/why-we-march-poll-shows-overwhelming-us-support-police-reform-increased

Not to be outdone the Dems have offered up a cosmetic bill of reforms…..

The Democrats have offered up their own slate of cosmetic changes largely mirroring Trump’s, including banning chokeholds and creating a national database of abusive officers, while also explicitly rejecting the demand, popular among protestors, to “defund” the police. Former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democrats’ presumptive presidential nominee, has called for $300 million in additional federal funding to shore up police departments across the country, while Senator Bernie Sanders has said that cops need to be paid higher salaries.

Such measures will amount to less than nothing. They might as well propose to change the color of police uniforms. Inevitably, “reforms” from these representatives of the ruling class will end up strengthening the police.

If you would like more information on this subject then there are a couple of articles that could assist you…..
