First I would like to thank my readers that shown concern for my hospital visit yesterday…..I appreciate the concern and kind words.
I had have 2 procedures yesterday and I had to be there at 0645 which I was and checked in….they got to me at 0930….I hate waiting and thinking….I has out after the 2 procedures at 1130 still loopy from the gas….
The doctor came in and told me what he had found….one procedure was good and he could see no problems the other was inconclusive and he said we would give it awhile and run the procedure again….oh f–cking joy.
My daughter was great she hung in there with me and made jokes trying to cheer me up….it did not work…..but she tried and I love her for that.
After I got home I went to bed and did not move until about midnight….now I am drinking coffee and trying to get caught up on the news which by the way was not all that thrilling so I really did not miss anything, did I?

A federal program that has helped steady premiums for Medicare prescription drug plans is going away. The Trump administration will phase out $3.6 billon in subsidies to insurers after 2026, saying the companies no longer need the support on Medicare Part D plans, reports the Wall Street Journal. The move means that millions of seniors may face higher Medicare drug premiums next year, notes the New York Times, but the particulars likely won’t become clear until the fall.
Administration official tells the Journal that about 45% of Medicare Part D enrollees are projected to face monthly hikes of roughly $11 to $20, and 30% would see increases of under $10, though some could avoid increases by switching plans. The remaining 25% would see no hike or perhaps a decrease. Dr. Mehmet Oz, head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, framed the move on X as ending a Biden-era “bailout” that he said encouraged higher pricing and gave “billions” to big insurers, per Reuters. Still, analysts say rising use of pricey GLP-1 and specialty drugs—and cost shifts under the Inflation Reduction Act—will keep pressure on premiums.

If you’d told me fifteen years ago that, as part of covering DC politics, I’d be reading books about space, I’d have told you to take a hike. But when Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post, he set a chain of events in motion.
I remember the day the Washington Post’s sale was announced. It was August 2013 and I was with my friend Tony Norman at our regular falafel haunt on U Street when I got an alert on my phone saying Bezos had just bought the Post for $250 million. “What?” Tony said when I broke the news to him. I read it again, not believing the words either. The Graham family, which had owned the Post for decades, wasn’t known to be looking to sell its prized possession. But now they had.
And in that instant, Bezos was transformed from the billionaire founder of Amazon, into the savior of the Post, if not the entire failing media industry. I read these hot takes with steam coming out of my ears. As the child of parents who owned our local newspaper, I was keenly aware of Amazon’s role in destroying newspapers across the country — namely by bankrupting local business, which are the lifeblood of any local paper (and community). The man who may be responsible for destroying more newspapers than anyone on earth was definitely not a savior of the free press.
That much I knew. But there was a lot about Bezos that I didn’t know. And now that he owned the Post, then the all-important newspaper for local DC politics, it was time to start reading up on the man.
The first book I cracked was The Everything Store, Brad Stone’s revelatory 2013 biography of Bezos. Eight years later, Stone followed that up with Amazon Unbound, another invaluable work. More recently, I devoured Wall Street Journal reporter Dana Mattioli’s excellent 2024 book The Everything War. These books laid bare Bezos’ business practices, a good number of which are illegal, or would be if we enforced antitrust laws in this country.
But there’s another aspect to Bezos that these books didn’t quite capture — namely how he’s lost touch with reality.
Bezos truly believes that he’s going to save humanity via an intergalactic bank shot. He’s perfectly open about this, and always has been. As I wrote in a story at Truthdig last year:

Who are these mystical voters that both parties want on their side?
A swing voter is an individual who does not consistently support one political party and whose voting behavior can vary from election to election. The findings capture a central paradox of the midterm landscape. While swing voters remain skeptical of both parties, dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress appears to be driving them toward Democratic candidates despite their unfavorable view of the Democratic Party.
Democrats have grown increasingly optimistic about retaking the House as Trump’s approval rating has slipped amid concerns over inflation, the cost of living and the fallout from the U.S.–Iran conflict. Historically, the president’s party tends to lose seats in midterm elections, giving Democrats an additional structural advantage.
Even so, the survey suggests voters may be willing to elect Democrats without embracing the party itself.
This early poll may sound good for the Dems but is it good for the nation?
To me this is basically saying….anyone but Trump….and that is not a good way to vote.
There is one bright spot, for now, and that is the rise of Progressives….if only they can keep pressure up there may be some hope for the mid terms after all.

I’ve heard the term “free and fair elections” thrown about recently, and I’m not sure they’ve ever been a thing. To determine whether America has ever had free and fair elections, we must establish what those elections are. Americans generally define free and fair elections as those in which every eligible voter can cast a ballot without coercion, and all ballots are counted accurately under rules applied equally to everyone. That’s the baseline.
When concession or certification is contested without evidence, Americans perceive the election as less “fair,” even if the mechanics were sound. The question in the title asks if America has ever had such an election. Will the next major election, the 2026 midterms, be free and fair? President Donald Trump seems to think not and, in a nationally televised speech, has laid the groundwork for contesting the results if they aren’t to his liking.

America has never had free and fair elections. The Supreme Court often acts to limit the voting freedoms Congress attempted to enact. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments have all been gutted, rendering them less useful than intended. Racism, even when proven, is permitted unless intent is proven as well. Gerrymandering ignores the will of the people, replacing it with the will of the Party. Politicians are working to make voting harder, rather than easier. The mail-in-vote may go the way of the dinosaur. America could do better, but both major parties still prioritize winning elections over reflecting the will of the people.

Before flying to Dover Air Force Base to witness the return of four service members killed in recent attacks, Trump told reporters that all of the fallen troops shared his view on the war, ABC News reports. “All of them said very strongly, ‘We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,'” Trump said. He called the dignified transfer “one of the hardest things to do as a president,” but said it “has to be done.”
It’s at least the second time in recent weeks that Trump has invoked dead service members to bolster support for the conflict, previously saying grieving relatives urged him to “finish the job.” His latest comments followed a social media post contrasting US deaths in the Iran war with casualties from earlier American wars, which appeared aimed at minimizing the current toll.
This disgusting bullshit….when has he ever talked to a lowly service member? Pathetic use of the dead to further his ambitions.

President Trump returned to the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Friday night, delivering a rambling, hour long speech that praised some journalists, took potshots at others, made jokes about public figures’ weight and intellect, and quipped about a third presidential term. He assured the crowd of journalists, though, that he’d scrapped the most biting parts of his remarks, per the AP. “That was going to be a doozy,” Trump said about the speech he’d been prepared to give in April, before a gunman upended the original dinner and forced its postponement.
“As I said three months ago, the show must go on,” the president said to begin his remarks, hailing the decision to reschedule the dinner. He referred to “the attempted mass murder” that could’ve happened that night in April, but then moved largely to humor—and insults. The president’s sometimes off-color speech, which lasted just over an hour, was full of vague potshots directed at individuals he doesn’t like—from Jane Fonda to Bruce Springsteen to “Barack Hussein Obama.” The audience, reacting at first with some friendly laughs, slowly quieted to scattered titters as the insults piled up.
Among other targets of Trump’s humor: late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel; Rep. Ilhan Omar; California Gov. Gavin Newsom; former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie; and Trump’s own speechwriters, whose jokes he sometimes criticized even as he delivered them. Some of the comments flirted with racism. The president also spent some time expressing pride in the ballroom at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, formerly the Trump International Hotel. “It’s great to be back at a place that I know very well, because I built it,” Trump said.
He also made reference to the journalism awards that had been handed out earlier in the evening, most of them for stories challenging him and his administration. “Do I have a say in those awards?” he asked with a grimace. Top Trump aide Stephen Miller announced Thursday that the Trump administration had officially declared “left-wing violence” as “terrorism” that needed to be stamped out.
Miller spoke at a conference in Washington, D.C., called The Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism, hosted at the U.S. State Department.
“Here in the United States, we have taken the necessary and essential action of formally recognizing left-wing violence as a form of political terrorism that is a direct threat to our national security and the survival of our republican form of government,” Miller said at the top of his remarks.
He continued:
President Trump issued a directive — in our parlance, it’s called a national security presidential memorandum or NSPM, NSPM 7 to be exact — that directs for the first time in American history all of our law enforcement and intelligence agencies to work together to disrupt, identify, defund, debank, arrest, and prosecute these political terrorists that are operating in our country. Secretary of State Marco Rubio hosted a conference on “far-left terrorism” on Thursday with representatives from dozens of countries in attendance.
The meeting was aimed at garnering international support to combat what the State Department described as “the resurgent threat” of such terrorism.
“This is a distinctive and unique evil. It has always been driven by a hatred above all else, a hatred for civilization itself. It is a revolt of the worst against the best, a revolt of the weak and the cowardly against the strong and the good,” Rubio said in his opening remarks.
“This is an international conference because we are facing an international—we are facing a transnational threat,” he went on, adding, “We have no choice but to confront this menace together. We will either cooperate across our borders or the terrorists will continue to exploit the gaps between them.”
Thursday’s conference comes as the Trump Administration has repeatedly blamed left-wing groups for rising political violence in the U.S. and made them a focus of its counterterrorism efforts in a reversal of past policy under the Biden Administration, even as datashows that right-wing extremists have been responsible for a greater share of deadly attacks.

Some of Trump’s claims were obviously untrue at the time he made them. Some were boasts that had a factual basis at the time but ceased to be true as the war continued. And others were assertions about what would supposedly happen in the near future but didn’t.

At issue, Reuters reports: DHS says it will hold back 20% of certain Federal Emergency Management Agency grants—more than $1 billion in total—unless states move to hand-marked paper ballots instead of systems that rely on bar codes or QR codes, conduct manual audits of at least 5% of ballots, reconcile voter participation with votes cast, and check voter rolls against a Homeland Security database to flag noncitizens.
The federal government also wants the states to assist DHS with immigration enforcement, per the AP. The suing states, led by Rhode Island, California, Illinois, and New Jersey and mostly run by Democrats, argue the agency is overstepping, saying Congress never empowered it or FEMA to reshape election law and noting the grants weren’t created for election security. FEMA counters that the rules are meant to safeguard election integrity, dismissing the challengers as “left-wing politicians.” The clash comes against a backdrop of false claims of widespread voter fraud, per Reuters, even as studies continue to find such cases are rare.

Robot supersoldiers — what could go wrong with those? A lot, if The Terminator taught us anything. Yet, the reality of robot soldiers could be much closer than one might believe.
Sankaet Pathak, the CEO of the startup Foundation Future Industries — founded in 2024 and having ties to Eric Trump — recently told Wired that the company will soon be exploring giving its humanoid robots lethal capabilities. He explained, “We have some kinetic things we’re exploring. We’ll probably unveil something in the next couple of months.”
These upcoming so-called robot supersoldiers won’t only be suitable for combat. Additionally, plans are for them to be beneficial in other areas, such as reconnaissance and logistics. But just what kind of potential timeline are we looking at for humanoids in the military (and is that even a good idea)?
People have been fantasizing about humanoid robots for decades. Movies such as Blade Runner, Ex Machina, and A.I. Artificial Intelligence imagined a future where robots and AI could interact with humans and save them from loneliness. Today, those sci-fi stories seem to be closer to reality than ever before, as Chinese company Ubtech has recently launched a product it calls the world’s first full-size, mass-produced “ultrabionic” companion robot.
China is already a world leader in humanoid robotics, but most robots have so far been designed for industrial work. Now Ubtech is hoping to enter a new market with its Uworld U1 series of companion robots designed for home use.
The global trend of loneliness is becoming more and more disturbing. Ironically, we live in a time when we have the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world, yet it has become very difficult for many of us to build real-life relationships. That’s exactly the problem that Ubtech is trying to solve with its product.

The owner of a South Korean restaurant with two Michelin stars is facing possible prison time over a sorbet topping: dried ants. Prosecutors in Seoul have asked a court to sentence the unnamed restaurateur to one year in jail and fine the company that runs the restaurant 20 million won (about $13,500) for using ants as a garnish in violation of the Food Sanitation Act, reports the Korea Herald.
Ants are not among the 10 insect species—which include grasshoppers, mealworms, and silkworm pupae, per the Guardian—the country allows for human consumption. The BBC reports Ministry of Food and Drug Safety officials realized ants were being used after seeing online reviews with photos that diners had posted.
he owner admitted serving the ants on some desserts in his 15-course menu but says diners were told of the garnish in advance and could choose alternatives like vinegar or edible flowers. Officials believe an estimated 49,000 dried ants from the US and Thailand were used by the restaurant over four years; the restaurant said the figure is incorrect, as it was based on all diners consuming the ants, when only 60% opted to do so. Court documents do not specify the restaurant or its owner, but the Times cites local media as reporting it’s Evett, run by Australian chef Joseph Lidgerwood. The court’s verdict is due Sept. 2.

A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins inside the scrotum, specifically a network of small blood vessels called the pampiniform plexus. Many people within the queer community no longer identify as male or female, gay or straight.
However, even newer terms such as demi-sexual or pan-sexual are failing to fit some people’s identity, and there is a new label on the block.
On social media, the term “Male Lesbians” is taking off as a growing number of people are choosing to identify with a label which at first seems completely contradictory.
The price of all food has skyrocketed into the stratosphere and the government is doing nothing about the drain on the wealth of the public.

As Americans face rising grocery prices under President Donald Trump and rally behind progressive policies and primary candidates, US Rep. Pramila Jayapal on Thursday introduced a bill that shows what kind of proposals could become reality with more Democrats like her in Congress.
Inspired by a program in her own district in Washington state, the chair emerita of the Congressional Progressive Caucus introduced the Fresh Bucks for Fresh Produce Act, which would create a pilot program at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) that gives households earning 80% or less of their area’s median income $60 per month to buy fruits and vegetables.
The USDA pilot would be modeled on Seattle’s Fresh Bucks initiative, in which enrolled households “experience a 31% higher rate of food security and consume at least three daily servings of fruits and vegetables 37% more often than those assigned to a program waitlist,” according to University of Washington (UW) research published last August.
“I would classify both of those numbers as pretty large,” study co-author Jessica Jones-Smith a professor at UW and University of California, Irvine, said at the time. “We don’t routinely see interventions that work that well. It’s a pretty big impact on diet in terms of what we can do from a policy perspective and expect to make a difference in food insecurity.”
In Seattle—generally ranked as an expensive but livable metropolis—a single person living within city limits on a monthly income of $7,070, or $84,850 a year, can apply for the program. For a family of four, it’s $10,095 per month, or $121,150 annually. In January, the city the welcomed over 4,500 more local households off its waitlist and increased monthly benefits from $40 to $60.
A good program but will probably go nowhere as long as the MAGA morons run the House….that could change come 2027….we can only hope that there will be some help for the people of this nation coming with the next election.

The whole idea of capitalism is losing some of its luster….and some are rethinking socialism….before we go any further most people’s concept of socialism is wrong…..and Dems are definitely NOT socialists. (It is that damn simple)….instead of believe what dimwit tells you and before you commit to believing bullshit maybe do some research (hahahaha…sorry that was just too funny)
Even back then the capitalistic luster was fading….fast forward to 2025….
Both Democrats and independents view capitalism less positively this year, as well. Less than half of Democrats, 42 percent, have a positive image of capitalism. Just over half of independents feel the same, compared to three-quarters of Republicans (whose views on the economic system haven’t changed since 2010).
What about the alternatives? Socialism still polls positively for 39 percent of respondents, holding steady since 2019.
But if you dig a little deeper, there are two diverging perspectives hidden behind that steady number: Democrats’ view of socialism has been increasing, while Republicans’ view has been decreasing.
While around 50 percent of Democrats had a positive view of socialism in 2010, nearly two-thirds do today. They’re the only partisan group who view socialism more positively than capitalism, at 66 to 44 percent, respectively.
It’s not hard to see why people may be fed up with the economic status quo. The cost of buying a home has skyrocketed, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, and wages haven’t kept up. And since 2001, rents have risen 10 times faster than income.

The House has taken it upon itself to vote on a stupid and worthless issue….
The House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution condemning socialism Friday morning, with several Democrats crossing the aisle to rebuke “socialist policies” in the U.S. following Zohran Mamdani’s recent election as the mayor-elect of New York City.
Eighty-six Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure in a 285-98 vote. Two members, Rep. Deborah Ross, D-Pa., and Rep. Janelle Bynum, D-Ore., voted present.
Notably, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y. — who endorsed Mamdani just days before the mayoral election — also voted in favor of the measure.
I say worthless because their idiotic vote does NOT represent the voting public….and if I am not mistaken their job is to vote what the people are wanting….right?
Donny is governing with his brand of ‘state capitalism’
When House Speaker Mike Johnson (R–La.) lashed out at last weekend’s “No Kings” rallies soon to arrive on Washington’s National Mall, he reached for an old conservative refrain: “They hate capitalism. They hate our free enterprise system.”
I am sure he’s correct about some of the protesters. But the message rings hollow coming from a party leader that stands by as President Donald Trump does precisely what Johnson rightly decries: substituting political control for market choice and ruling by executive order.
Indeed, what began as a populist revolt against so-called elites has become a program of state ownership, price fixing and top-down industrial control. Take a look.
Recently, the Trump administration quietly converted CHIPS Act subsidies into an $8.9 billion equity purchase in Intel, making Washington a 10 percent owner of one of America’s largest technology companies. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick insists “this is not socialism.” That’s semantics.
Socialism is government control of the means of production. When the government becomes your largest shareholder, that’s a strong first step.
If you are one of those people that fears socialism even thought you have no idea what it is, then you should be worried about your boy Donny for he is taking a first step.
That should give you something to think about….oh wait….thinking? That is a novel concept for the MAGA loyal.
For most of this year the Dems have been trying to make it a policy that the president cannot go to war without permission from the Congress and yesterday they may have come one step closer to making it so….
Lawmakers in the House just sent another warning shot over President Trump’s Iran policy. On Thursday, they passed a Democratic-backed war powers resolution aimed at curbing his ability to continue the conflict, with four Republicans crossing the aisle in a 214–208 vote. GOP Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Warren Davidson of Ohio, and Tom Barrett of Michigan sided with Democrats on the resolution to require congressional approval for the war, the Washington Post reports. The same four Republicans voted for a similar resolution last month, before the conflict reignited with daily US strikes on Iran.
The resolution’s sponsor, Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington, said the war has “no clear mission, no strategy, no end goal.” The measure doesn’t go to Trump’s desk and is widely viewed as symbolic, and any binding curb on his authority would almost certainly face a veto. Still, with the Senate weighing its own war powers measure Thursday morning, the move underscores mounting bipartisan unease over a grinding conflict that has recently intensified, including the deaths of four US troops in the region over the weekend, Politico reports.
During debate on the resolution, Republican Rep. Brian Mast of Florida, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, read out the names of the 18 US service members killed since the war began, the AP reports. “To belittle this mission is to belittle and demean the very service these members gave their life for,” he said. “Their sacrifice was not meaningless. This operation is bringing reckoning for the hundreds of times Iran has attacked and killed people of the United States of America.” The committee’s top Democrat, Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, said presidents are supposed to obtain congressional approval for wars. The service members, he said, died in “an illegal unauthorized war that the American people don’t want.”
This is not a done deal but at least we are closer to making Donny ask permission before bombing more countries…..which is a good idea for he is considering another country to be bombed…..
President Trump is considering opening a new military front in another nation, with advisers weighing military strikes in Mali against an al-Qaeda-linked group known as JNIM, reports the Washington Post. The idea is reportedly championed inside the National Security Council by foreign policy hawks such as Sebastian Gorka, Trump’s counterterrorism director, but faces resistance from other senior officials, according to current and former unnamed officials who spoke to the Post. The militant group’s stronghold is in Mali, but it has launched regional attacks throughout West Africa.
The US is pressing African and NATO partners to support Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger in the Sahel region. All are ruled by juntas that have ousted democratic leaders and turned to Russia for security help, and the US faults Moscow for being a weak partner. Critics warn US strikes could entangle Washington with Russian forces, empower Islamic State rivals, or push JNIM to target Americans and deepen ties to al-Qaeda. Others argue force is needed to keep jihadist groups from cementing a stronger foothold in the region. If approved, Mali would become the eighth country where Trump has ordered strikes in his second term, after Yemen, Somalia, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, and Venezuela, per the New Republic.
Time for the Congress to put on the brakes on Donny’s blood lust and he is not alone….

The first pervert was Jim Jordan…..
Jordan was an assistant coach with Ohio State University’s wrestling program from 1987 to 1995.
Richard Strauss was the wrestling team physician during Jordan’s tenure. Strauss died by suicide in 2005. In April 2018, Ohio State University began an independent investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Strauss. The report concluded that Strauss had committed sexual abuse against 177 student-patients. The majority of abuse (143 victims) was categorized as genital fondling associated with medically unnecessary genital or rectal examinations. Of the 177, 153 were student-athletes, of which a plurality (48) were members of the men’s wrestling team.
Several involved persons have stated that Jordan surely knew of Strauss’s criminal misconduct but did not report it. While at least one victim has named Jordan as knowledgeable of accusations against Strauss, Head Coach Russ Hellickson said he may not have known about the abuse. A spokesperson for Jordan denied the allegation, saying that Jordan “never saw or heard of any abuse, and if he had, he would have dealt with it”. No wrestlers have accused Jordan himself of sexual misconduct, but four former wrestlers named him as a defendant in a lawsuit against the university. Jordan has denied any wrongdoing and has described his accusers as “pawns in a political plot”.
Let’s be honest if the accusations had been made against a Dem all Hell would have been brought against him….and yet Jordan is still acting like a human in the House.
Ohio has a new pervert in the news….
In mid-March, two detectives, an Ohio county Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) caseworker, and a Cleveland Clinic physician met on Zoom to discuss how the 2-year-old daughter of a congressman and granddaughter of a US senator wound up with a broken collarbone.
“The bruising surrounding the clavicle fracture made the injury suspicious,” wrote one of the detectives who summarized the Zoom meeting. Further, someone on the call “advised the injury would have required a high degree of impact to occur.”
Neither the child’s father, Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio), nor mother, conservative policy adviser Emily Moreno, admitted to knowing what caused their daughter’s injury or that it occurred while their daughter was under their care. Miller’s primary theory was that the bruising resembled marks from a seat belt. Moreno, who discovered the bruises and took the child to an emergency room, suggested the cause may have been something more sinister. Records of the investigation into potential child abuse show that Moreno told detectives that Miller had previously thrown hot water at her, shoved her, and held a gun to her head; therefore, she couldn’t rule out that Miller caused their daughter’s fracture. Moreover, a child protection specialist reviewing the incident had characterized the bruising near the fracture as resembling a “handprint.”
