To Create Another Donny

Let’s say Donny actually leaves the White House and at his age there maybe another such tool lurking but will the Dems, the status quo Dems, help create the next horrific Donny?

Now there is a good question….and it needs asking and more important it needs an answer.

This is an interesting look by David Sirota….

When I look back on all of my work over the last 30 years, one of the projects I’m most proud of is Meltdown, an audio series I did in 2021 with acclaimed director Alex Gibney that reveals the untold story of how Obama-era Democrats turning promises of economic hope and change into more of the same created the backlash conditions for the rise of Donald Trump.

It is a miracle Meltdown ever got made, because calling its tale “untold” is an understatement. The story of Obama’s 2008 victory concluding with Trump’s 2016 win involves a sequence of economic facts and events that have been suppressed, shadowbanned, memory-holed, and censored from America’s political conversation. This is particularly true in media outlets that serve liberals, who seek comfort in the idea that Trump is an anomaly rather than a symptom of something their own political party participated in creating.

Every now and again, there are attempts to warn about this perpetual doom loop. Gibney and I did so ourselves after Meltdown debuted in the pages of Rolling Stone, where we cautioned against Democrats coming into office promising big New Deal-style economic changes, then mostly delivering only for their big donors. We warned that such a bait-and-switch would result in the inevitable backlash from disillusioned voters who would ignore syrupy odes to restoring democratic “norms” and decide once again to vote for a Joker-style candidate like Trump promising to blow up the entire system.

The piece went viral, but the message went largely unheard amid Democratic politicians and pundits insinuating that voters were insufficiently grateful for Joe Biden’s allegedly wonderful economy.

Fast forward five years and we are on the verge of the 2028 Democratic presidential primaries. For the most part, Democrats and their media outlets are still soothing themselves with the fraudulent story of Trump as an anomaly rather than a symptom and still promoting the politics of restoration rather than transformation. Indeed, the over-the-top celebration of Barack Obama’s new $800 million monument to himself was an example of this desperate pining for a return to a pre-Trump normal — even though that “normal” was what created Trump in the first place, and even though restoring such a “normal” could create the conditions for an even worse Trump in the future.

Interesting if not a bit terrifying….but do you think Sirota is on to something?

Is The UK In Trouble?

I know I have a few UK readers and I am always glad to have their insights for I am not up to snuff on their politics.

So when I saw this headline I had to do some research and I am not sure the outcome and any info that they may have will be greatly appreciated.

The leaders of Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland signed a pact Monday that threatens to lead to the breakup of the United Kingdom. The first ministers of the three semiautonomous regions of the UK told Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his government to prepare for constitutional change and that their future lies with the European Union, the AP reports. “For people watching across these islands—for people watching around the world—there could be no clearer sign that Westminster’s time is coming to an end,” they said in a memorandum of understanding, referring to Parliament.

  • The announcement came about 48 hours after President Trump waded into the waters of the politically contentious issue when he said he would “love to see” a reunified Ireland during a trip to visit his golf course hosting the Irish Open.
  • It’s the first time the leaders of all three countries are either from pro-independence parties, or pro-unification in the case of Northern Ireland, which was partitioned and remained part of the UK. when Ireland won independence from Britain over a century ago. “Each of our nations has the right to determine its own future, through democratic means and in accordance with the wishes of its people,” the leaders said. Burnham’s spokesperson brushed aside the threat and said the prime minister strongly believes in the union and was more focused on lowering the cost of living than dealing with “constitutional debates.”
  • In the late 1990s, the UK passed legislative acts that decentralized government through the process of devolution, giving each country except England some level of policy independence and self-governance through their own parliaments. But tensions have remained with the UK-wide government in London, which retained control over national issues and those concerning England.
  • Scotland’s John Swinney and Northern Ireland’s Michelle O’Neill called for independence referendums in their countries, while Rhun ap Iorwerth did not provide a timetable for one in Wales. The three leaders appeared in their political capacity, rather than their official one, possibly because O’Neill is in a power-sharing government with the Democratic Unionist Party.
  • Scotland tried unsuccessfully to break away in 2014, with voters rejecting a referendum 55% to 45%. But analysts say support for Scottish independence has grown since Brexit.
  • Swinney, leader of the Scottish National Party, predicted that Burnham would be the UK’s last prime minister, the BBC reports. “The people of Scotland, if given the choice of independence in a referendum, will take that choice, because all of the information that we see in front of us about the trends in opinion polling indicate that’s the preference of the people of Scotland,” he said.

Okay this sounds serious but is it?

Are the chances of breaking up the United Kingdom possible?

Or is this sensationalism?

I will appreciate your insights into this turn of events.
