A Few Thoughts On Democracy

You know that idyllic form of government that we use to have but is slowly being eaten away by a fat orange money and his minion.

As the democracy is being eroded there are a few things that we need to remember….

Democracy as a form of government literally means power vested in its people. But it’s much more than just elections or government institutions—it’s a relationship among its citizens. And in a country of more than 342 million people of all backgrounds governed by fifty semi-independent states, there will never be a singular consensus about anything. Today, our democracy has grown fragile because it depends on its citizens’ willingness to engage with each other, and growing polarization has been eroding that foundation.

A recent Pew Research Center study found that the health of our democracy notably declined in 2025 following a pattern of weakening over the past decade, according to multiple evaluations that have long tracked the performance of democracies around the world. And this decline is perceived among the public: in a March 2026 survey, 69% of American adults reported dissatisfaction with the way our democracy is working. But the irony of this dissatisfaction is that our democracy and its future don’t lie solely in the hands of those in office. While elected officials may bear the heaviest weight of democracy, it is built on its people—a foundation that has been strengthened by centuries of collaboration, discourse, and debate.

Let me emphasize….democracy is a responsibility, not a guarantee….in other words if we lose it it will be the cowards and the defeatists that made it so.

In other words….democracy needs citizens not those that are fans…..

However, fans are primarily attached to personalities. The nature of their engagement with politics is much more emotional than institutional. The political centrality revolves around the leader, while institutions lose space in public discussions and expectations. Political questions become personalised. Successes are attributed solely to the leader, while failures are blamed on situations and structure or institutions perceived as obstacles. It no longer connects citizens with the state but admirers to an individual.

Citizens need institutions: the judiciary to protect rights, the legislature to make laws, the election commission to ensure free and fair elections, universities to produce and verify knowledge, and the media to scrutinise power. Citizens often prioritise democracy over any individual because institutions outlast governments and provide coherence to public life. They realise that public trust must rest in procedures rather than personalities.

We hear from different camps this person or that is a savior of the nation….democracy does not need saviors, it needs participants…..

And if our civic life depends on finding the rare leaders who can make half the country stop fearing the other half, the problem is not merely leadership — it is structural.

Effective political systems are supposed to reduce the need for heroic leadership. They are supposed to channel disagreement, lower the stakes of political defeat, protect basic rights, and allow citizens who disagree to keep living together without believing every election is a struggle for survival.

Our structure increasingly does the opposite. The president is expected to be head of government, head of state, cultural symbol, emergency manager, economic steward, commander-in-chief, national therapist, partisan warrior, and national unifier.

No human being can effectively do all of that for a country of more than 340 million people divided almost evenly over first governing principles.

Democracy is losing ground daily…..Donny and the Band of Thieves are eating away at any confidence in democracy….

he overwhelming majority of Americans agree that democracy is the best form of government. But according to the first report from the Democracy for All Project, a collaboration between the Charles F. Kettering Foundation and Gallup, over half of the people surveyed think that American democracy is performing poorly.

New research by Freedom House suggests that this negative impression is more than a feeling. The recently published Freedom in the World 2026 report highlights concrete problems with the institutions that Americans are losing confidence in, specifically Congress and the justice system. We argue that long-term issues like legislative dysfunction and gridlock, alongside discrimination and a weakening of anticorruption safeguards, are eroding confidence in democracy and worrying many Americans. We conclude that to counteract these trends, policymakers and civil society groups should engage 18-to-29-year-olds, who the Kettering-Gallup survey suggests are eager to be involved in their communities. Helping young people transform their enthusiasm into action could go a long way to both improving America’s political institutions and shoring up faith in democracy.

Pentagon Needs Money

The $1 trillion budget the Pentagon is trying to push through Congress is not doing so well….and now the Speaker Johnson in true MAGA form is trying to make a non-existent problem into a money maker for the Pentagon.

As he pushed for Congress to approve $350 billion in new spending requested by the Pentagon, House Speaker Mike Johnson suggested Tuesday that some of the funds were needed for “fighting communism on our own shores,” an ominous notion in light of President Donald Trump’s threats to deploy the US military against his domestic enemies.

In addition to the already record-breaking $1.1 trillion military spending bill that was approved last month by the House Appropriations Committee, the Pentagon has requested a separate $350 billion package to be passed through a separate GOP-led spending bill known as “Reconciliation 3.0,” which can pass without Democratic support.

Johnson (La.) has faced pushback from some GOP senators, including Sens. Susan Collins (Maine) and the hospitalized Sen. Mitch McConnell (Ky.), as he’s sought additional spending. During a press conference on Tuesday, Johnson made his case for Republicans to back the reconciliation proposal.

The speaker argued that the package included “transformational funding that will help us change the dynamic of the Department of War and make it more efficient and effective,” including Trump’s request to “effectively double the funding for national defense.”

“Look, we live in dangerous times,” Johnson said. “We’re fighting communism on our own shores, and we’re fighting evil terrorists and tyrants around the world, and we have to be able to protect our national security.”

Unequal Taxation And Revolution

Most of my regulars know that I have this knack of spreading history every chance I get……and since yesterday was Bastille Day I thought I would look at the French Revolution as it might pertain to today’s America.

Deep inequalities in taxation played a key role in fueling the French Revolution, according to a new study published by the ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin (RFBerlin). For the first time, economists have substantiated this with figures. In areas where salt taxes and internal customs duties were particularly high, there were twice as many revolts as in low-tax districts between 1750 and 1789.

“Discontent was also reflected in the ‘petitions’ (Cahiers de doléances) submitted to the king by representatives of the commoners in early 1789. Regions facing higher taxes recorded 72% more complaints about taxes and customs duties in their petitions to the king,” says Marco Tabellini, research fellow at RFBerlin, assistant professor at Harvard Business School and co-author of the study.

The taxes varied dramatically across France. In low-tax districts, households paid 2.5% of their annual income on salt. In high-tax districts, the figure reached 13%.

“This long-standing resentment coincided in 1788 with a particularly dry summer, followed by an exceptionally cold winter, causing bread prices to soar and triggering a wave of hunger riots,” adds Tabellini.

The king, however, wanted to raise taxes in early 1789 because his military support for the Americans in their War of Independence against the British, as well as his lavish spending at the court at Versailles, had ruined the country. France had accumulated substantial debt by 1789, but the king was unwilling to declare bankruptcy.

I inject this into the reasons why we have a mini electoral revolution taking place here in the US…..taxation is unequal….the working peasants pay their taxes and the wealthy get a free ride…..and as usual the excuse for this inequality is that the wealthy create the jobs…..but they argument falls dead when employment numbers are looking rather dismal.

The masses are looking for people that will act not promise and so far the Dems have done nothing but promise and their actions have been limp and uninspired and not just recently but rather for decades.

The voter always looks for candidates that will improve their economic conditions and after decades of promise neither party has stepped up to do what was promised.

That brings us to today and the popularity of the DSA in elections….the voter has finally decided that since neither party is capable of improving the equality of the people then it is time to look elsewhere…..

We keep hearing the same tired argument from centrist Democrats and Republicans: if we tax the rich, we will lose a valuable source of revenue by displacing them to another state. While research suggests otherwise, Democratic Socialists and the vast majority of Americans who support taxing the rich need not get bogged down rebutting a counterfactual. Instead, we ought to argue that taxing the rich is a core American value because it protects and expands democracy. Taxing the rich is a critical tool that needs to be deployed in earnest at this time of democratic backsliding. As our democracy — the oldest in the world — teeters, the threat to domestic and global stability is of far greater consequence than unfounded parochial concerns deployed to maintain the status quo.

Lindsey Graham’s sudden death, social media feeds filled with claims he’d been poisoned, targeted by foreign enemies, or killed overseas—theories advanced without evidence but amplified by algorithms and partisan influencers, reports the Washington Post. Officially, preliminary findings from the DC medical examiner point to an aortic dissection; authorities have not suggested foul play, and a death certificate is pending. The same mistrust hit the release of a hospital photo of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, which some users insisted was AI-generated or old, despite metadata and a digital forensics review indicating otherwise. A look at the Graham chatter:

  • Far-right activist Laura Loomer: “Was he poisoned by a foreign adversary either abroad or upon returning to the US?” she posted on X. “It’s not like I’m just making random claims,” Loomer told the Post. “I don’t understand why everybody wants to call it a conspiracy. I think there is more than enough evidence there for probable cause.” Of the McConnell photo, however, she posted: “Why does the text on the newspaper McConnell’s staff claim he’s holding look AI generated?”
  • Ex-congressman George Santos: “I believe foul play could have been at play here.”
  • Making things worse: The swirl only intensified when FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X that “the FBI is assisting local authorities and has made every necessary resource available.”
  • One popular post: “Graham inspected a drone factory in Ukraine yesterday,” read the LibertyLockPod post on X, per the AP. “Russia blew up that facility today. Then, tonight, it is announced that Graham is dead of a ‘sudden illness.’ No more details. I’d say there is a decent chance that Russia blew up Lindsey Graham.”
  • Even Russian media: A tabloid ran an article headlined, “The Kiss of Death: Senator Graham’s Death Linked to Zelensky,” claiming that the death of Graham, who fervently supported Ukraine, was tied to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.
  • From Senate Majority Leader John Thune: “There’s so much noise in the world today.” He continued: “I hope that people can calm down and just mourn the loss.”
  • From President Trump: Asked about conspiracies in an interview, he said: Asked during a Newsmax interview Monday night about Graham’s cause of death, Trump said: “To answer the conspiracy theory out there, I, I’d love to say yes. But I think he he had some problems. His father died just about at the same age,” said Trump, adding that Graham had “some problems that were a little bit deep-seated and not easy to find.”

I love this stuff….every idiot with half a brain has an idea and a theory.

Will It Be Money Well Spent?

News has come forth about the funds that the EU and Allies will send to Gaza for its rebuilding.

This rising so many questions for me…..

Europe and a roster of allies on Monday promised Gaza $1 billion, but it’s a down payment on a bill that’s much, much larger. The European Commission announced the “Team Gaza Initiative,” a package of aid projects aimed at basic recovery in the enclave more than 2½ years after the Israel-Hamas war erupted in October 2023. The money will go toward clearing rubble, repairing water and sewage systems, and reviving health services, the commission said after a donors’ meeting in Brussels, Reuters reports. “Our objective is clear: to help build hope, resilience and a better future for the Palestinian people,” said EU Commissioner Dubravka Suica.

Participants include Spain, Germany, and France, along with Britain, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, the World Bank, and the European Investment Bank; Australia and Canada are expected to join. President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner attended the meeting. UN estimates put Gaza’s reconstruction cost at about $70 billion. Most of the territory’s roughly 2 million residents remain displaced, many in tents or damaged structures, as Israeli forces maintain control over much of the strip in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls a buffer zone. The EU did not say how the new money would be divided among partners. “The ceasefire in Gaza remains fragile, and the situation on the ground for civilians is not getting better,” Suica said, per the AP.

Seriously?  Rebuild Gaza and as soon as it becomes prosperous Israel decides it is some sort of security risk and starts it’s destruction once again.

Who will get this cash?  Donny and his Israeli-centric Board of Peace is not there to do what is best for the Palestinian people but rather to feather the monetary bed of Israel.

Plus Israel has some sort of strike almost daily to kill more Palestinians and now they want us to pay for their destruction.

I say one thing to BiBi and Israel….KISS MY ASS!

Until the world guarantees Palestine and Gaza existence then there will be just a continuous rebuild then destruction by Israel.

I think it is admirable that the world is stepping up but they need to do so against the warmongering state of Israel or this will be money wasted.

I notice the US is not part of that coalition….they cannot be bothered with the rebuilding of Gaza as long as their lips are affixed to Israel’s ass.

We’re watching a modern-day French Revolutionary-like takeover of the Democratic Party. We could call it the Reign of Terror or the Democratic guillotine.

What I mean by that, in 1793 and ’94, when the French Revolution was well on its way to fruition, a group of radicals called Jacobins, led by the Robespierre brothers, hijacked that revolution and decided that they were going to go far, far to the left of the effort to abolish the monarchy and rename the days of the week, the months, start with a year zero concept, go out and attack private property, and execute people.

Now, I don’t think the democratic socialists are going to do that, but their takeover is similar to the Jacobin takeover. And what is their agenda? Their agenda is a radical Green New Deal, war on fossil fuels, open borders, no deportations, no deportations even for criminally convicted.

In addition to that, cut the defense budget, defund the police, institutionalize diversity, equity, inclusion, chauvinism.

We’re all going to go by our incidental affiliations.

If you’re trans or gay or female or black or Asian, that’s going to be what you identify in as, a large group of the victimized with complaints against the white male, etc., victimizer class.

We Have Our Winner!

The news of the death of South Carolina’s senator started a whole panic to quickly pick a person to replace him….the GOP needs his vote in the Senate…..the front running was Graham’s little sister…..and so it shall be…..

Darline Graham Nordone, who was appointed Monday to serve the remaining months of the Senate term that her late brother, Lindsey Graham, left behind when he died over the weekend, hasn’t been in office before. But through her brother’s decades of public service, Nordone has been by his side, supporting him in speeches, appearances, and even campaign ads, the AP reports. Besides being a frequent attendee at Graham’s political events, Nordone is woven deeply into her brother’s personal and political biography. After both of their parents died in just over a year, Graham, then age 22, became legal guardian for his 13-year-old sister.

Now, after South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster tapped Nordone to serve in Graham’s seat until January, Nordone is heading to Washington, tasked with representing the interests for which her brother advocated with passion. Sources tell the AP that Nordone will be sworn in Wednesday. She will be the first woman to represent South Carolina in the Senate. A special primary held next month will sort out which Republican moves forward in the general election to face Democrat Annie Andrews in November.

  • While Graham was in his early 20s, his life—and that of his sister—was turned upside down. Their mother died in 1976 after battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Fifteen months later, his sister, then 13, discovered their father after he suffered a heart attack in his sleep and died. Graham was just beginning law school at the University of South Carolina. With both parents gone, he pivoted, saying that his chief goal was to ensure his sister was cared for.
  • Making regular treks from school in Columbia to Seneca, where his sister was being looked after by relatives, Graham kept tabs on his sister from then on and became her legal guardian. After he became a military lawyer in the Air Force, he adopted her, to ensure that she would receive his military benefits.
  • Graham, who never married or had children of his own, once joked as he ran for president in 2016 that his sister could be among a “rotating” cast of White House hosts standing in as first lady. But the bond between the two, aside from being integral to Graham’s own biography, was evident in their public appearances. When Graham filed his candidacy paperwork in March for this year’s election, Nordone was by his side, along with her children and grandchildren.
  • “What have I learned in this life I’ve led? I take nothing for granted. I count every blessing, every day,” Graham said then, going on to recount how he and his sister forged through life together from that point. “I understand what a blessing my life has been and the only way I can pay you back for the blessings I’ve received is to be the most thoughtful, relevant, aggressive senator.”
  • Nordone has worked with people with disabilities. Since 2019, she has been Commissioner of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, “where she has worked to expand opportunities for South Carolinians who are blind or have low vision to achieve employment and independence,” Gov. Henry McMaster’s office said in a statement announcing her appointment. Talking to C-SPAN in 2015, Graham said of his own life that his sister’s success “is the highlight of it, by far.”
  • Bob McAlister, a former consultant to Graham on several campaigns, reflected on how the difficulties in their growing up bonded the siblings in a way that most would not understand. “He grew up with nothing … and I think the way he and Darline grew up just had an indelible impact on him, and for some reason, it gave him the drive that he had to do what he did,” he said, adding: “A lot of people have different ideas about Lindsey from what they’ve seen on TV and all that, but everything about him can be traced back to his boyhood, the way he grew up, the way he took care of his sister.”

Beef, It’s What Use To Be For Dinner

If you are meat eater then you will be well aware of the high cost of meat, especially beef…..as Americans struggle to afford meat there is a USDA report that says US beef exports are high…..(for those not sure an export is a commodity, article, or service sold abroad.)  So why we struggle and that idiot president is making billions the people here are screwed while the middle man makes profit.

With U.S. beef prices soaring and supplies tight, the U.S. Department of Agriculture surprised meat producers and traders on Thursday by reporting a spike in the nation’s export sales, fueling questions over the accuracy of the data.

The beef export sales, reported in weekly USDA data, included deals that may have taken place months ago, contributing to the sudden increase, the agency told Reuters. Traders said the totals still looked excessive.

U.S. beef exports have declined since 2022 due to high prices and scarce inventories, and an increase could further raise costs for domestic consumers already facing higher grocery bills during the summer grilling season.

Beef prices broke records this year due to strong demand and a persistent drought that drove U.S. ranchers to slash their cattle herds.

USDA said in its report that net export sales of U.S. beef for delivery in 2026 reached 126,062 metric tons in the week ended June 25, a marketing-year high that was up almost 500% from a week earlier. The figure may include several months of data, the agency later said in an email.

Yesterday I was awoken to the sounds of MAGA weeping profusely….one of Donny’s staunchest fans has passed into the great unknown.

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina a long time cheer leader for Donny is gone.

Stunning news out of Washington, DC: Sen Lindsey Graham died Saturday night at age 71. The office of the South Carolina Republican said only that he “passed away from a brief and sudden illness,” reports Politico. The Washington Postreports that emergency responders were called to his Capitol Hill home to treat a man with chest pain about 8:30pm. Responders said after arriving that they were performing CPR and that the man was in cardiac arrest. In a Truth Social post, President Trump called Graham, one of his staunchest allies on Capitol Hill, “one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known,” and labeled him “a true American Patriot.”

Graham, first elected to the House in 1994 and the Senate in 2002, became one of the GOP’s most visible figures on foreign policy and national security. He was in Kyiv on Friday meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as he pushed for new sanctions on Russia, and he was scheduled to appear on Meet the Press Sunday. Once a Trump critic who ran for the GOP nomination himself in 2016, Graham later emerged as a key defender of the president, opposing both impeachment efforts. He did break with Trump at times, notably with his vote to certify the 2020 election results and with his criticism of the mass pardon for Capitol rioters.

South Carolina’s Republican governor, Henry McMaster, will appoint someone to serve out Graham’s term, which runs through January. Graham fended off five challengers last month to win his primary in a bid for a fifth term, notes the New York Times. In the meantime, Graham’s death trims the GOP’s majority in the chamber to 52-47.

Guess what?  The quickness of his death has the MAGA conspiracy machine working overtime….

Libertarian talk show host Clint Russell told his nearly 300,000 followers to “get your tinfoil ready” before he suggested, without evidence, that Russia was somehow to blame for Graham’s death in Washington, D.C.

Graham was in Ukraine as recently as Friday for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reports show.

“I’d say there is a decent chance that Russia blew up Lindsey Graham,” Russell wrote in a comment liked more than a thousand times.

This is the story so far……

Sen. Lindsey Graham’s death appears to have stemmed from a major heart complication, according to preliminary findings released by his office. The District of Columbia medical examiner identified the cause as an aortic dissection linked to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease—an aortic dissection is a tear in the inner wall of the body’s main artery that can rapidly become fatal, Politico reports. The New York Times adds that the type of disease referred to involves weakening and hardening of the arteries over time, and the Washington Post notes that such tears typically occur in people with high blood pressure. The medical examiner’s office is still conducting toxicology and microscopic tests, and Graham’s death certificate will remain listed as pending until that work is complete and the manner of death is formally classified.

That bit of info will not silence the conspiracies.

Not to worry I am sure that the appointment will be another closed mind racist of the MAGA brand.

Speaking of closed minds…….Donny has a choice for a replacement…..(already)….

The race to replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham on South Carolina’s primary ballot is about to move quickly, Politico reports. President Trump told NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday that he already has a preferred contender in mind but declined to name the person, saying it was “too soon.” State law calls for a special one-week filing window for GOP hopefuls starting July 21, followed by an Aug. 11 primary and, if no one tops 50%, an Aug. 25 runoff. The winner will then be on the general election ballot in November for a full six-year term beginning in January.

In the meantime, Gov. Henry McMaster will name a temporary replacement to serve out the year. There’s no legal deadline for his decision, but governors typically fill Senate vacancies rapidly. McMaster can either pick a short-term placeholder who agrees not to run for the office or hand the job to an active candidate—potentially giving that person an edge heading into the compressed primary fight.
