Closing Thought–15Jun21

Over this past weekend there were shooting in 6 states…..when will enough be enough?

I recently read an article recently that explains the recent increase in murder and gun violence….it seems it is because there is more guns!

That got the immediate response from me…..

The year 2020 saw the largest recorded increase in homicides in United States history — an increase likely propelled by a complex mix of factors, from more guns to stresses of the pandemic to fewer police officers on the streets to a crisis in relations between police and citizens.

But one persistent theory is that a change in policing last summer primarily drove increased gun violence. This is an especially popular explanation among law enforcement figures. Former Baltimore Police Department Deputy Commissioner Jason Johnson recently argued that the real driver of last year’s murder rise was a severe decline in police activity, especially after protests erupted last summer in the wake of George Floyd’s murder.

St. Louis Police Commissioner John Hayden suggested that the police resources devoted to protests prevented officers from engaging in neighborhood policing. Former NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said police were “stretched to the limit” by the protests and coronavirus restrictions. Summarizing widespread reductions in stops and arrests, Johnson wrote that “when the Thin Blue Line retreats, violence charges in.”

This is a growing problem in search of solution….the problem is there are none that want that solution….they prefer to keep uttering the mindless sympathy message of “thoughts and prayer”….and the killing goes on…..and on….

BLM Mississippi

Note:  I apologize for this post is a week late.

Recently I posted on the death of a baby after a high speed chase that ended in gun fire in Mississippi….https://lobotero.com/2021/05/08/a-baby-dies/

Last Saturday Black Lives Matter held a gathering that asks for information on why a 3 month old baby was killed by police….

Black Lives Matter Mississippi held a protest outside the Gulfport Police headquarters on Saturday asking for police accountability and transparency regarding the death of three-month-old La’Mello Parker.

This comes after the Biloxi Police Department announces it will not disclose the results of the forensic test on the bullet that struck Parker.

Biloxi is handling the investigation because other law enforcement agencies were involved.

The baby, La’Mello Parker, was killed May 3rd near Biloxi after his father, Eric Derell Smith, led police on a chase from Louisiana to Mississippi.

The Black Lives Matter Mississippi group wants the public to have access to the officer body cam footage and for the individuals responsible for the infant’s death to be held accountable for their actions. Protester Dwight Watkinz said, “It is 2021. We have all the forensic evidence in the world that can help figure out who fired this bullet, who killed this child. I’m sorry, it doesn’t matter if you didn’t mean to do it. If I go out tomorrow and hit somebody on the side of the road and I didn’t mean to do it, I’m still going to jail for manslaughter.”

So many questions that needs answering….but will the information be forthcoming?

My guess is that it will not.

I can smell that “blue brotherhood” formulating their defense for killing a baby….for no reason.

At what point will this type of story become an exception instead of the rule?

Friends of Padre Steve’s World,

The United States is now engaged in a life or death battle on multiple fronts. The first is against the novel Coronavirus 19 pandemic that has killed at least 47,650 Americans and infected at nearly 849,000 more, of which almost 717,000 are still active cases.  Of course we now know that the first deaths occurred in California during February weeks before the first officially recorded deaths began to be counted, there is a strong possibility that many more deaths were chalked up to the Flu and Pneumonia. With barely 1% of the population tested the probability is that hundreds of thousands of others who are probably out roaming about and spreading the virus. Of course many people still go without observing social distancing, unless they are forced to at the grocery store, or do not wear any kind of face mask. The May not care…
