Closing Thought–17Jul20

We hear almost daily on just how smart our president thinks he is…..mostly told by him….he recently patted himself on the back for what he called “an unbelievable thing” with the results of a cognitive test that Trump was given…..

The two men expected to face each other in the general election have a combined age of 151, which is one reason why both keep taking digs at each other about mental fitness. In an interview with Sean Hannity Thursday night, President Trump suggested he did not think that Joe Biden could do as well on a cognitive test as he did, and he proceeded to boast about it. “I actually took one very recently when I was—when the radical left was saying, ‘Is he all there, is he all there?'” Trump said, per Mediaite. “I proved I was all there because I aced it. I aced the test and he should take the same exact test, a very standard test.” Trump added that he impressed the doctors at Walter Reed Medical Center. “They were very surprised,” he said. “They said, ‘That’s an unbelievable thing. Rarely does anybody do what you just did.'”

As the Washington Post notes, the last disclosed cognitive test for the president was in January 2018, and that was a fairly basic 10-minute exam in which people are asked to identify animals in pictures and such. It’s unclear if Trump took a more recent exam. Biden, for his part, said Thursday that he can’t wait to debate Trump, referencing Trump’s description of himself as a “stable genius,” per NBC News. At 77, Biden is three years older than Trump, and he said in response to a reporter’s question last month that he is “constantly” tested for cognitive decline, prompting Hannity and other Trump allies to wonder why Biden felt it was necessary to be tested so much, per Fox News. “Look, all you gotta do is watch me, and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against,” Biden said at the time.

A cognitive test?

You mean the one they give toddlers to see how their cognitive abilities go?

Plus I do not trust the truth to ever come from the White House……so take this with a grain of salt…..

One more plus…..never trust a person that tells you how smart they are….it is usually a smoke screen for their inadequacies or just a plain LIE.

The Pandemic Economy

Running pandemic tally……3.5 million cases…..138,000 deaths

Here is something to think about…..A country like India with a massive population and a worse health system than the US has only 1 million cases and 25,000 deaths…..YOU explain that!

Now on to the meat of this post……

We have all heard that the economy needs to get back to doing business…..right?

But why?

I mean the economy as defined by the media is the markets and the markets are doing very well as the bodies of the dead pile up……so what economy needs to return to doing business?

There were 71,670 new cases of COVID-19 recorded, the second-worst day on record. Nearly 1,000 people lost their lives to the disease, according to official figures.

With Texas hospitals at 90 percent capacity, dozens of mobile morgues are being dispatched to the state. In Florida, 54 hospitals now have zero available beds in their intensive care units. And, amid a full-on drive to reopen schools, officials said that one third of children who were tested in Florida were positive, adding to the body of evidence that children can play a major role spreading the disease.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington reported that it estimates 224,089 people will die from COVID-19 by November 1, an upward revision of 20,000 from just one week ago.

Meanwhile, the most basic medical supplies, such as masks, gowns, gloves and disinfectants, “simply are not readily available from the usual sources our physicians use,” the American Medical Association reported.

Look into your finances…..are you doing as well as the media says the markets are doing?

My guess is NO.

The Real Economy sucks……financials soar……

Reports issued by four major US banks this week have highlighted the widening dichotomy between the real economy and the financial system.

The US is set to record the worst recession since the Great Depression, threatening elevated levels of unemployment well into the future and a wave of bankruptcies. Yet the banks are raking in billions of dollars through speculative operations financed by the massive intervention of the Fed into all corners of the financial markets.

On Tuesday, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Citigroup set aside a combined total of $28 billion for current and expected losses on their loans. The second quarter provisions bring the total for the three banks for 2020 to $47 billion, more than they set aside in the last three years combined.

At the same time, two of them, JPMorgan and Citigroup, reported major increases in revenues derived from financial market trading.

Please do not base your life on what the media tells you is the truth……the truth is unless you are wealthy then the economy sucks!

American Mind–Civics Class–Part Two

Part Two of my series on Civics…..Learn Stuff! chuq

Gulf South Free Press

This is my little classroom to try and help or maybe even explain what the American Mind is all about…..

To help Part One can be accessed here…..https://gulfsouthfreepress.wordpress.com/2020/07/13/american-mind-civics-class-part-one/

Part Two is about a Moral Society and the thoughts of Pres. Lincoln…..during his tenure as president he had to face something that would have destroyed lesser men….the American Civil War…..

Abraham Lincoln was the most thoughtful and eloquent of American presidents, in some ways the philosopher-poet of the American political order. His prudent and principled leadership allowed for both the preservation of the Union and the abolition of slavery. As Lucas Morel capably shows, Lincoln drew on the wisdom of the American Founding in opposing slavery and working for its gradual abolition. He stated his political Golden Rule in a note he wrote to himself in 1858: “As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master.”…

Stupid Is As Stupid Does

A category during the pandemic…..

It seems that the governor of Georgia (the state not the country) has decided to BAN….read that term again….BAN the wearing of face masks during the rise in cases in his state….

Georgia’s Gov. Brian Kemp is explicitly banning Georgia’s cities and counties from ordering people to wear masks in public places, the AP reports. He voided orders on Wednesday that at least 15 local governments across the state had adopted even though Kemp had earlier said cities and counties had no power to order masks. An increasing number of other states order residents to wear masks in public, including Alabama, which announced such a ban Wednesday. But Kemp, a Republican, has instead been trying to encourage voluntary mask wearing, including telling fans that reduced infections from mask-wearing would make college football season possible. Kemp’s move is likely to infuriate local officials in communities that had acted, including Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Rome and the governor’s hometown of Athens-Clarke County. Overall, mask orders by Wednesday were covering 1.4 million of Georgia’s more than 10 million residents.

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson was the first local official to defy Kemp and order masks, and had said police would start writing $500 citations to businesses that didn’t enforce the law. “It is officially official. Governor Kemp does not give a damn about us,” Johnson wrote on Twitter Wednesday night. “Every man and woman for himself/herself. Ignore the science and survive the best you can.” Kemp’s new order also bans local governments from requiring masks on public property, which void requirements that some governments have imposed for citizens to wear masks inside city and county buildings. Kemp was among the first governors to ease earlier restrictions, and while infections declined for weeks afterwards, they began to rise in June. Wednesday’s numbers showed nearly 2,800 people hospitalized statewide with the COVID-19 respiratory illness, the highest on record and a number that’s nearly doubled since the beginning of the month. Georgia is now averaging 24 deaths over the past week, the highest level in nearly four weeks.

Yet another Republican authoritarian that decides what the people need…..the freedom of choice will be taken away……and yet voters still rush to the side with every election…..and there is where the category comes in…..
