A Letter From The Edge

Or….My Baby Wrote Me A Letter!  (sorry had to channel my 60s experience)……

The news has been full of the report that Trump has written (?) a letter to Pelosi ahead of the impeachment vote…..

Trump rattled on…the same song that his Tweets reflect…..

Nancy Pelosi was on the receiving end of what the Washington Post calls an “extraordinary letter” written by President Trump. Over six pages that you can read in full here, he voices his “strongest and most powerful protest” against impeachment, writing that “this impeachment represents an unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power by Democrat Lawmakers, unequaled in nearly two and a half centuries of American legislative history.” The AP reports that the “fiery” letter, which comes a day before his expected impeachment, voices Trump’s displeasure at how the House inquiry was handled, alleging “more due process was afforded to those accused in the Salem Witch Trials.”

Trump writes that the Articles of Impeachment that the House Judiciary Committee has come up with “include no crimes, no misdemeanors, and no offenses whatsoever. You have cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!” He addresses the claims of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress at length, then goes on to tout a long list of successes that have occurred in his term, writing, “you and your party are desperate to distract” from them. He expresses that he doesn’t believe his letter will change anything, but that he wanted to record his objections “for the purpose of history. … One hundred years from now, when people look back at this affair, I want them to understand it, and learn from it, so that it can never happen to another President again.”

I really would like to hear what my readers think about this letter…it is not a long read….only about 6 pages……

The Honorable Nancy Pelosi
Speaker of the House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Madam Speaker:

I write to express my strongest and most powerful protest against the partisan impeachment crusade being pursued by the Democrats in the House of Representatives. This impeachment represents an unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power by Democrat Lawmakers, unequaled in nearly two and a half centuries of American legislative history.

The Articles of Impeachment introduced by the House Judiciary Committee are not recognizable under any standard of Constitutional theory, interpretation, or jurisprudence. They include no crimes, no misdemeanors, and no offenses whatsoever. You have cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!

Did you read?

Whatcha think?

My thoughts is it should have been left un-mailed…..it makes the president look like a childish d/bag….it is a rambling piece of manure that would be better on the rally trail and not in the House.

It sounds more like someone afraid their “brand” will be tainted….he keeps thinking that his legacy will always have a stigma about it with a asterisk after his name….a stain on his person.

But that is just me.

  1. This letter tells a few things but the most notable takeaway to me is that it represents Trump feeling pressured, under stress. It’s a typical defense when someone sees an inevitable and unavoidable judgement of being blamed for something. In Trump’s case it’s the usual denial and deflection, albeit a last ditch effort on his part, it’s all about him squirming to break free of this. It’s also written in Trump’s meandering and pointless prose; as many are suggesting, it’s no letter written for the ages as some inspiration for the country. But.. he never was a speech maker of consequence outside of some level of entertainment; viewed more as rhetorical comic to watch than a serious person elected to the highest political office.
Today is the House vote to impeach and he (or some babysitter on his staff) has scheduled a rally… again surrounding himself with his drug of choice.. screaming loyalists who clamor in agreement to every caustic personal comment he makes toward someone or some race. But what this letter also reveals to me is the cautious and wary anticipation of what he will do after the Senate votes down the House articles. His behavioral type will typically seek some vengeful action or stance that could easily cause domestic OR international controversy. I have said for months this will get worse.. the “this” being the impact of our national divide overall… whether he stays or not.
I also anticipate one other thing as this impeachment/Senate process runs on. We’ve not seen the big bombshell yet. I have no idea in what form this bombshell will hit.. but one is coming. Either Trump himself will Tweet some nonsense that changes the dynamic.. or something else, maybe like that “Anonymous” person coming out (given this person seems to have used some level of timing in the op-ed and the book). This person has written their not favoring impeachment because the country is too divided. But that ship has set sail.. so unknown what this person might do. On the other hand, this person could just fizzle away and never be heard from again. The point is that something’s coming.

  2. Why the use of ‘unprecedented’. Surely other presidents have been impeached during Trump’s lifetime? Or doesn’t he know that? I’m confused.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. I was an in house lawyer for a corporation for forty years. The tone and style of the letter is typical of letters sent by parties in a dispute, and in law suit petitions. I have seen numerous letters from individuals snd lawyers similar to this. And received several addressed to me personally from lawyers representing their clients, and from fellow employees unhappy with the way transaction were happened and the way things turned out.
Facts are twisted, exaggerations made and false conclusions drawn. Whenever I received such a letter I just regarded it as a work of fiction. Some of these letters were from some of the top law firms in the country. Some were from angry snd frustrated people.

As to the contents of the letter many of the charges against the democrats are true. And they are also guilty of the same twisting of facts, exaggerations snd false conclusions as contained in the letter.

I don’t know if another bombshell will be dropped or not. The facts are known. It is just a question of whether the actions rise to the level of removal from office. The senate will have a short trial and find not guilty or dismiss the charges.

As to the aftermath, I believe things will continue as they have before. That was true after Clinton’s impeachment trial.

And the voters will decide in November who will be president will be for four more years, acting within the procedures outlined in the constitution, whether one believes those procedures are fair or not

    1. I do not think that the Dems have twisted anything…I have read all the testimonies and such and the evidence is overwhelming to me….chuq
