Closing Thought–02Dec19

I remember the days of the 2016 campaign and the time of the run up when candidate Trump bitched about the number of times Obama had been playing golf…..let us not forget all those mindless Right wing bloggers that echied the sentiment on Obama’s golfing trips……but you know I have heard NOTHING out of these mental midgets about the news…..

President Donald Trump’s golf hobby has now cost Americans an estimated $115 million in travel and security expenses ― the equivalent of 287 years of the presidential salary he frequently boasts about not taking.

Of that amount, many hundreds of thousands ― perhaps millions ― of dollars have gone into his own cash registers, as Secret Service agents, White House staff and other administration officials stay and eat at his hotels and golf courses.

The exact amount cannot be determined because the White House refuses to reveal how many Trump aides have been staying at his properties when he visits them and will not turn over receipts for the charges incurred.

What a guy!  Trump donates his salary but spends millions more on his constant golfing with his buds….

Plus he had a virtual golf screen installed in the White House…..does he as president supposedly the busiest man on the planet need a golf game when he goes every other weekend to golf?

I say NO!  I say give him one weekend game per 3 months….anything over that then he pays and pays at the time of the game to avoid having to sue the bastard for unpaid bills…..which is his stock and trade.

But not to worry this to can be justified because others have played golf as well……so no need to comment on that….

2020–Another One (2) Bites The Dust #9

A month ago the last candidate dropped out of the 2020 Democratic nomination process….and now another candidate has decided to drop his/her bid for the Dem nomination…..Joe Sestak…..who?

Joe Sestak, the former Pennsylvania congressman and retired Navy admiral who hoped to turn his military experience into an asset as a Democratic presidential candidate, said Sunday he was ending his bid for the party’s nomination. In a statement posted on his Twitter site, Sestak offered his thanks to supporters “for the honor of running for president” as “I end our campaign together.” “Without the privilege of national press, it is unfair to ask others to husband their resolve and to sacrifice resources any longer,” he wrote, per the AP. Sestak, 67, a graduate of the US Naval Academy who spent three decades in the Navy, served two terms in the House, 2007-2011.

In joining the crowded field last June, Sestak called for strong action to deal with climate change, corporate accountability, and China’s geopolitical threat. Sestak made little impression with donors or other supporters and failed to qualify for any of the party-sponsored debates. He recently completed a walk across New Hampshire to drum up interest in his campaign. The Democratic Party remained rankled over Sestak’s campaign in 2010 to challenge Sen. Arlen Specter in the Democratic primary. While Sestak defeated Specter, a Republican turned Democrat, he lost to Republican Pat Toomey in the general election. He defied party leaders again in 2016 by seeking the nomination to challenge Toomey’s reelection, but lost the primary to the party’s preferred candidate.

Sestak never got any traction as a candidate…he was seldom seen in the debates or in the MSM for interviews……so I do not believe he will be missed by many.

But as a something special offering….another Dem candidate drops his bid for the 2020 nomination…..Steve Bullock…

Bullock pitched himself as a moderate who could win a red state, notes Politico, but it wasn’t enough. “While there were many obstacles we could not have anticipated when entering this race, it has become clear that in this moment, I won’t be able to break through to the top tier of this still-crowded field of candidates,” the governor said in a statement.

Neither of these two rose above 1% at best…..

As the tradition of IST I will show the exit to this candidate with Queen….

Sorry to say he will not be missed.

That True Obama

Remember back in 2008 and the Dem nominee, Barack Obama, was  labelled by the Right as a secret socialist….basically because of his acquaintance with some radical people of his past.

Then there was the 8 years of his presidency and the media of the Right did all they could to drive the narrative that he, Obama, was a socialist that was coming to take away your guns, your freedoms, etc…..remember those days?

Plus for those 8 years I wrote almost weekly that Obama was no progressive…..definitely not a socialist……that in fact he was nothing more than a corporatist candidate like Clinton…..of course I was not very popular with those people enamored with the Obama candidacy…….

Fast forward to 2020….Obama has made it known just how “center” he really is…..

Barack Obama spoke at a Democratic Unity Fund fundraising event Thursday and, unsurprisingly, called for Democratic unity. The former president said the party needs to “chill out” about the 2020 field and focus on defeating Trump instead of fighting over “relatively minor” differences, CNN reports. “Everybody needs to chill out about the candidates, but gin up about the prospect of rallying behind whoever emerges from this process,” the former president told around 100 high-dollar donors at the Silicon Valley event. “The field will narrow and there’s going to be one person, and if that is not your perfect candidate and there are certain aspects of what they say that you don’t agree with … I don’t care, because the choice is so stark and the stakes are so high,” Obama said

Obama has rarely commented on the 2020 candidates, and aides say he won’t be doing so again this year, the New York Times reports. He warned against “purity tests” and said Democratic differences were minor relative to the goal of defeating Trump and a Republican Party that has taken “a sharp turn away from a lot of the core traditions and values and institutional commitments that built this country.” He spoke in favor of a wealth tax, saying: “That’s one area where I guarantee you where you will get Joe six-pack and the single inner-city mom agreeing. They would like to see a little bigger share of the pie and you know, the rent is too damn high.”

That was good advice to the Dems…..after all they all want the same thing….to beat Trump……but what I originally saw as some good advice turn ugly (at least for me)……

As we gear up for next year’s presidential race, the only political class in the United States that may be as terrified of losing power as the Republican Party is that of centrist Democrats. Former President Barack Obama embodied this fear in his recent remarks at an event for wealthy liberal donors when he said, “The average American doesn’t think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it.” It was a not-so-veiled reference to the rising chorus of demands for a “Medicare for All” health care system, a climate action plan like the Green New Deal or taxes on billionaires that redistribute some of their obscene wealth.

Obama’s statements prompted a backlash on Twitter under the hashtag “#TooFarLeft,” with people asserting that if their demands for drastic solutions to solve our many serious problems are seen as too far left, then so be it. It was the second time in the last few weeks that the former president, who still enjoys a great deal of popularity, admonished leftist activists. At an event in late October, he said, “This idea of purity and you’re never compromised and you’re always politically ‘woke’ and all that stuff … you should get over that quickly.” He was referring to what an older and more conservative generation of Americans have denounced as “cancel culture” on the left.

But to get back to the morons that still think Obama is a socialist… has been reported that he, Obama, would work against Sanders it he was the nominee…..wait is not Sanders an actual Democratic Socialist?  Yes he is.

President Obama privately said he would speak up to stop Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) from becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, Politico reported Tuesday.

The former president reportedly said if Sanders held a strong lead in the Democratic primary, he would speak out to prevent him from becoming the nominee.

A close adviser to Obama told Politico he could not confirm whether Obama would stand up against Sanders.

All I can say is that I thank Obama for proving what I said all those years ago correct…..his policies were Clintonian and is NO way a socialist…that is an insult from mental midgets that have nothing but a slogan.

The Hong Kong Drama

For months now the people in Hong Kong have been protesting…..some say for democracy others say it is just for the helluva it and then there are those in the government that say it is just provocateurs that are never happy…..

There for awhile I thought that Trump would veto the bill that condemned China for their responses to the protesters and for their disregard of the democratic process…..

I can say now that I am pleasingly happy with the news that Trump has signed the bill….

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed into law legislation that could bring diplomatic action and economic sanctions against Hong Kong, brushing off multiple warnings by China against such a move.

“The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act reaffirms and amends the United States-Hong Kong Policy Act of 1992, specifies United States policy towards Hong Kong and directs assessment of the political developments in Hong Kong,” the White House said in a statement.

“Certain provisions of the act would interfere with the exercise of the president’s constitutional authority to state the foreign policy of the United States.”

The one question that this situation begs… what will happen with the negotiations between China and US on trade?
