Let’s Talk War

First before I go any further I need to be up-front…I am an antiwar person and have been for 50+ years…..I see NO need for war when most situations could be solved with diplomacy and negotiations.

With that all said…..Let’s Talk War!

Today’s world has the US in a stand-off with Iran……but let’s look the wars we have fought since the terrible day of 9/11….Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Syria, and a bunch of faceless engagements…..18 years and counting of war.

Since the attacks 0f 9/11 the US has spent trillions…that is trillion with a “T”…..on our countless wars……

The United States has spent nearly $6 trillion on wars that directly contributed to the deaths of around 500,000 people since the 9/11 attacks of 2001.

Brown University’s Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs published its annual “Costs of War” report Wednesday, taking into consideration the Pentagon’s spending andits Overseas Contingency Operations account, as well as “war-related spending by the Department of State, past and obligated spending for war veterans’ care, interest on the debt incurred to pay for the wars, and the prevention of and response to terrorism by the Department of Homeland Security.”

The final count revealed, “The United States has appropriated and is obligated to spend an estimated $5.9 trillion (in current dollars) on the war on terror through Fiscal Year 2019, including direct war and war-related spending and obligations for future spending on post 9/11 war veterans.”

Think about that for a moment (oh Hell you will not consider that number at all, right?)…..

How much safer is the world from terrorism for all the money spent?

Who actually pays for war…YOU DO!  If you pay taxes then you are paying for all this destruction and death…..https://lobotero.com/2018/08/14/who-pays-for-war/

We are approaching yet another war and the same people that gave us Iraq in 2003 are leading the march to war…..how long will this continue?

How long will Americans continue to be naive and clueless about what these people are doing?  The very same people that lead the US into Iraq on a pack of lies……and the lies are beginning again.

    1. I totally agree but do not see the Trump Whisperers (Bolton, Pompeo, et al) doing so….sad that our troops may have yet another group wanting their demise……chuq

  1. There certainly may be some lies at play currently….but that doesn’t discount the very real fact that Iran directly sponsors terrorism across a good swath of the globe. It comes down to what our alleged aims are….od which, with this Administration….I can never be certain. The GWOT essentially ended in 2002 after the general elimination of al Qaeda core in Afghanistan…..excepting sporadic actions here and there.

    1. I agree that Iran probably sponsor proxies but so do we……I still say that this might not be a bigger deal if the agreement had remained in place……I believe there is a better way than war Be well, be safe….chuq

  2. Think 500,000 may be low. I have seen numbers higher than that, but who really knows. 500,000 is too many.

Wars seem like insanity to me but always there are people who think their goals are worth the cost. Oil, trade, Liberty, way of life, religion, wealth, power. Driven by both ambition and fear.. It is all mixed in, stirred around in the pot.

    1. And the US is doing the same…..but most of those games cost few lives where the one the Trump and Boyz are pushing will cost many. chuq
