Step Up America!

We are truly living in a divided country…there are two Americas….and that needs to stop….we need to work together or perish….remember the old poster from early Colonial America?

It is as true today as it was in 1754….our divisions are killing the country by tearing it apart and if it continues then this country shall surely perish…..

In director Mike Judge’s prescient and highly underappreciated 2006 satirical film Idiocracy, society five centuries from now falls into a dismal dystopia as Homo sapiens devolve as a species.  The culprits are growing anti-intellectualism, rampant commercialism, the demise of social responsibility, intellectual curiosity, human rights, and impartial standards of justice.  Many sociologists and other qualified professionals have observed similar trends in recent years particularly in the U.S. which is now widely perceived as declining in comparison to the rest of the world.  A new opinion poll seems to confirm both the trend and the perception

But now you ask….what can I do?

Ralph Nader (a person that is not high on my impressed list) has written an op-ed that says it all and we should heed his call before it is too late…..

It is time for an urgent clarion call.

Given the retrograde pits inhabited by our ruling politicians and the avaricious over-reach of myopic big-business bosses, the self-described pillars of our society must step up to reverse the decline of our country. Here is my advice to each pillar:

America, please heed the call….if you truly love your country…….please before it is too late.

  1. Good call from Nader, but those divisions are really deep in your country now. I haven’t seen such a choosing of sides in my life before. That said, similar things are happening here, and in other European countries too.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. I agree and it appears that the “Ignorati” is making in-roads all over the world…..this is not going to end well if we do not change things….chuq

  2. Ah, don’t worry, my friend. It’s all going to change. The problem is, nobody is going to be happy with the changes, any more so than we have any real control over them,….

I would point out, the simple fact that such an article, and, such a call to action, are considered necessary is a clear indicator that it is too late for any such call to be heeded. The Ignorati are ubiquitous in our culture, and the social inertia they create is far too cumbersome for individual action to have much effect….

The people who started this country began a social experiment that attempted to, if not overcome this social inertia, at the least provided the means to slow its advance; that experiment failed in the face of determined opposition by the forces of the status quo, i.e, the rich, the powerful, and their allies, the religious, and the immorally avaricious, who now hold sway in every level of American culture….

    S’okay…. Nature bats last.

    gigoid, the dubious

  3. I was watching “The Great Dictator” again a couple of days ago and that line from Charlie Chaplin kept coming back in my brain: “We think too much and feel too little.”

Now, it’s the opposite. Deeply-held beliefs/opinions over facts, screaming over discussion, ridicule over learning…I used to nod and giggle when I heard people call “Idiocracy” the comedy film that was rapidly becoming a documentary…and I heard it a lot.

Now I can’t even grin at the idea…because it feels so scarily true.
