Words About War Matter

Today for some reason I seem to be fixated on the subject of war…..a fascinating subject not from the point of view of some Rambo BS but what it takes for people to accept the obscenity of war.

It is election time so chest thumping is at a premium…..especially from those that think going to war will solve all problems……

I realize that many do not want to think about the consequences of any of our massive amount of interventionism……but they should.

Sorry but I do not believe that going to war is the answer to every problem we face internationally…..it is the easy answer but not the most prudent one.

Originally posted at TomDispatch. At the moment, there are a maximum of 3,870 U.S. military personnel (or 7,740 actual boots on the ground) in Iraq supporting the war against the Islamic State. That’s the “official cap” imposed by the Obama administration, because everyone knows that the president and his top officials are eager to end […]

Please think about this situation before you cast your vote……remember these people are not “boots on the ground”….they are someone’s husbands, wives, brothers, sisters and children……they deserve more consideration that some blind emotional response to every situation……or every mindless slogan.

  1. War has been the primary cause and effect in the production of testosterone ever since the spear and the loincloth were invented. Civilizations thrive on it and when they can’t engage in it they create hand-held video games to simulate it.

    1. And that is a little sad…..greed envy and false premise……I believe there is something written about those somewhere…

    1. I agree….sadly I do not think that our “leaders” see it that way….and the media is of no help either….chuq

  2. As noted by Gautama Buddha, and a host of others, our nature is to engage in our ego, which is an illusionary construction of our imagination and intelligence. But, it is driven by our emotions, most especially by fear, which is always converted to anger or aggression in the typical narcissistic human male (females too, it just shows itself differently, though no less destructively….).

Thus, almost every human interaction is driven by fear… fear of being different, of being inadequate, of not understanding… all lead to adopting a position of defensiveness and bigotry, to protect that fragile ego.

Add to this the propensity for some of these narcissists to abandon all their connection to others, and prey upon them for the aggrandizement of that ego. The typical human being is locked into an attitude of “If it feels good, do it…”, even if that action causes harm to others. These predators learn at an early age to objectify their victims, so they are not even real to them, and their needs, and their feelings, have no value to them, and are thus disposable as unworthy of their notice.

War is a natural result of this particular form of madness, one which our species has engaged in since forming our first society, which felt it needed to protect itself from other societies, and the universe at large, to assuage their bone deep fear of their own ignorance.

Pathetic creatures, with more promise than common sense.
