Cannot Happen Too Soon!

AHHHHHHHHH!  The weekend and some relief from the hum-drum day to day drudge of politics….the sickening aspects of American life…….

There are a few things that we humans find disturbing….like stupidity or how we treat others or cruelty towards animals or….well we all have some things that we find more disturbing than others……for me it is anyone that wants to be a clown…..but that could be a concern that is diminishing……

Good news, coulrophobes: A “national clown shortage” may soon be upon us, the New York Daily News reports. It seems as older clowns are dying, not nearly as many younger clowns are joining the ranks to replace them—leading to a drastic decrease in membership at the country’s biggest clown organizations (yes, those exist) over the past 10 years. Even kids who are into clowns “go on to high school and college and clowning isn’t cool anymore,” explains the president of Clowns of America International. “Clowning is then put on the back burner until their late 40s and early 50s.” “American kids these days are thinking about different careers altogether,” says the president of New York Clown Alley. It probably doesn’t help that clowns usually only make $300, at most, per birthday party performance. And if they have their sights set higher, well, they’ll have a harder time than ever making it to the big leagues: The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, not yet touched by the looming clown shortage, has been making the audition process even more difficult. But at least one clown assures Gothamist there’s nothing to worry about: “There are still a lot of younger people becoming clowns, they’re just not joining the Clowns of America International. It’s more of a generational thing I think. It’s like joining the Shiners club or something like that.”

For me, I am leery of anyone that wants to hide their true identity behind some thick make-up……I immediately think of Gacy or pedophiles….so in my mind this trend cannot end soon enough……

  1. As long as there are right wing extremists and/or Republicans and GOP-ers and “Cob-Servatives” in politics we won’t have to worry about a clown shortage.

  2. Villains hide behind any sort of disguise they can; it is one of the characteristics of those who prey on others to assume any shape or attitude that will accomplish their evil intent…. Clown, Policeman,Fireman, Priest…. all have been utilized as costumes, or even full persona changes, to hide predatory or abusive behavior…. It is a particularly human habit to do so…. Clowns are creepy, yes, but, I find pedophile priests even more so, and the number of assholes who abuse their position as police, elected officials, and/or other public servants are, in my mind, more dangerous than a clown…. At least with a clown, it’s easier to tell if they’re fake, as they won’t be trying to be funny, if it’s a charade….

      1. My son feels the same way, even though he is a big fan of Insane Clown Posse, a performance art/rap group very popular with the Gen X segment of our society… I think the ICP is creepy, for sure, but, clowns in general have never bothered me…. I grew up with Bozo the Clown on TV, and saw Emmet Kelly, the great circus clown, a couple of times… Maybe familiarity helped ease any possible fears I might have had as a kid that might carry over into adult life… But, I can see how people see them as strange, or creepy…. they CAN be odd, for sure….

      2. An auntie had a portrait of Kelly in her den and when I was a kid these eyes followed me where I went….it was too creepy and the beginning of my distaste for clowns….

      3. Now, that makes perfect sense, and explains why you don’t like them… In my case, my grandmother had this picture of Jesus whose eyes did the same thing…. I had thrown off the desire to be religious before I was four years old, just because of that picture, which got me started on asking why… in that case, “why does it have to look at me?”… Nobody ever gave me an answer I could buy into….and my questions only got harder… 😆

      4. Indeed…. eyes can be powerful…. If you ever get the chance to go see a Van Gogh exhibit, you should make every effort to go… Vincent was brilliant, as we all know…. Once, I had a chance to see his work, on tour from the Louvre, or wherever it lives, at the De Young Museum in SF when I was in college, and saw this one self-portrait he did, with eyes that not only followed you when you moved, but also caused the whole face to come alive as it watched you…. It was INCREDIBLE!…. You had to stand exactly 12 feet away, and look at this small picture, about 2/3 life size, of just his head, without a hat, and those fucking intense eyes boring a hole through you… at another distance, it’s just a pretty picture, but, at that distance, it is ALIVE, I swear it…. and the eyes were even more so….

      5. 😆 In the painting I’m talking about, he still had it…. it came off a couple of years later… and, believe me, the eyes will grab yours, and hold them….

  3. There is a curious irony here. On each side ideological divide, we have folks who think those who dare to disagree with them are clowns. Nonetheless, we have reports a clown shortage.

It seems the news media either is in error or exaggerates. They are not counting the self-educated clowns.

    1. Clowns are the pegs on which the circus is hung.
      P. T. Barnum

Now we could interpret that in many ways….but for the sake of harmony I will let the reader do that on their own…..
