House Impeachment Hearing–Day 1

As a service to my readers I will offer summary of the day’s proceedings dealing with the impeachment hearing in the House for Pres. Trump…..

The moment has arrived: The public phase of the House impeachment inquiry of President Trump began on Capitol Hill Wednesday. Democrat Adam Schiff declared at the start of the hearing that the “future of the presidency itself” is at stake, while Republican Devin Nunes called the hearings a “carefully orchestrated smear campaign.” The first two witnesses were William Taylor, the top US diplomat in Ukraine, and George Kent, the deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Some highlights:

  • Another phone call: In a new piece of information, Taylor testified that a member of his staff overheard Trump ask about the “the investigations” during a phone call with diplomat Gordon Sondland, reports the AP. The call took place one day after Trump’s call to the Ukraine president in July. (Sondland and the Taylor staffer were in a restaurant together when Trump called.) During the conversation, Sondland told Trump the Ukrainians were poised to move forward. After the call, the Taylor staffer asked Sondland what Trump thought about Ukraine. “Sondland responded that President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden, which (Rudy) Giuliani was pressing for,” said Taylor, per Axios.
  • More on that: Politico sees the call as “an explosive new detail,” and the Washington Post agrees, saying it ties Trump “more directly to the effort to pressure Ukraine to probe his political opponents.” Plus, it undermines Trump’s previous assertion that he barely knows Sondland. A post at Red State, though, scoffs at the idea this is significant. “Under any other circumstances a staffer claiming to have heard what a remote participant on a telephone call said in a private phone call would be laughed at,” it reads. “This kind of nonsense would not be allowed before any committee that still had a sense of shame.”
  • Trump denial: During a press conference with Turkey’s president after their Oval Office meeting, Trump denied knowledge of the overheard call. “I know nothing about that,” he said, per the AP. “First time I’ve heard it.”
  • Star witness? Taylor disputed the idea put forth by GOP Rep. Jim Jordan that he was a “star witness” for Democrats, reports the Hill. “I don’t consider myself a star witness for anything,” he said. “I’m not here to take one side or the other.” When Taylor said his “clear understanding” was that Ukraine aid and investigations were linked, Jordan shot back, “Your clear understanding was obviously wrong, because it didn’t happen.”
  • GOP strategy: In questioning Taylor about Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, GOP lead counsel Steve Castor said, “You certainly can appreciate that President Trump was very concerned that some elements of the Ukrainian establishment were not in favor of him, did not support him, and were out to get him.” Schiff warned Castor about commenting on “facts not in evidence,” but eventually allowed the question, reports the Washington Post. “So you certainly can appreciate President Trump’s concerns,” repeated Castor to Taylor, who responded, “I don’t know the exact nature of President Trump’s concerns.”

*******Let me help my readers out….the timeline for the aid thing….

THE TIMELINE July 18: Trump withholds military aid July 25: Trump demands Biden probe from Ukraine Sept 1: Sondland tells Ukraine aid contingent on probe Sept 9: Congress learns of whistleblower report exposing bribery scheme Sept 11: Military aid is magically released********

  • About Biden: When Kent was asked if there was any truth to the theory that Joe Biden pushed Ukraine to fire a prosecutor in order to protect his son, he answered, “None whatsoever,” per the Wall Street Journal. However, Kent confirmed that he reported his concerns about Hunter Biden serving on the board of a Ukraine gas company as a possible conflict of interest during the Obama-Biden administration.
  • More from Kent: He shot down the conspiracy theory, one pushed by the White House, that it was Ukraine, not Russia, that interfered in the 2016 election. “I think it’s amply clear that Russian interference was at the heart of the interference.”
  • Opening statements: Kent’s opening statement is here, Taylor’s is here, Nunes’ is here, and Schiff’s is here.
  • A ‘sham’: Before the hearings began, Trump lashed out in a series of morning tweets. “Millions of Americans will see what a partisan sham this whole thing is,” Trump wrote, quoting Rush Limbaugh. Trump also called out “NEVER TRUMPERS!” For the record, both witnesses denied they were “never Trumpers” during testimony. Trump later retweeted a number of Republican tweets denouncing the inquiry, and retweeted a White House tweet declaring, “New hoax. Same swamp.”
  • “Shadow war”: The AP reports a “shadow disinformation war” was already underway before the hearing began, and rounds up the intense social media scrutiny of the proceedings.
  • Was the POTUS tuning in? Trump told reporters during his meeting with Erdogan that he wasn’t watching the proceedings, a statement he reiterated later during their press conference. “I hear it’s a joke. I haven’t watched for one minute because I’ve been with the president” of Turkey, he said. He added that he wants to know the identity of the whistleblower whose complaint launched the impeachment inquiry.
  • As for the whistleblower: Schiff had said earlier Wednesday the House Intelligence Committee would take up a motion to issue a congressional subpoena to compel the whistleblower to appear behind closed doors, but ultimately that motion was tabled after Taylor and Kent finished testifying. Their testimony lasted five hours.
  • What’s next: Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who was ousted in May on Trump’s orders, will testify Friday. Next week will see eight more witnesses testifying.
  • Takeaways from Wednesday: The AP has a few here.

THe GOP on the committee did just as I said they would….tried to turn the hearing into a circus staffed with clowns…..Nunes did not disappoint…..Jordan did not disappoint……the GOP has nothing to counter the evidence other than wanting a whistleblower’s name….that tells me the evidence must be spot on if they cannot counter it.

The first day is in the can….now we have a whole day for the MSM to analyze and the pundits to earn their money…..hearing to return Friday.

Another Congressional “Sit-In”

Closing Thought–24Oct19

I have calling the Congress, both parties, a pack of spineless clowns that would rather perform for the camera than to do the hard work of governing.

I recall a couple of years ago when the Dems lead a sit-in in the House …..and I remember that the Repubs went batcrap crazy….calling this protest a stunt”, it was childish and did nothing to further the cause of liberty.

The year was 2016……(for those that have dementia or just plain ignorant)

Dozens of House Democrats staged a sit-in on the House floor Wednesday in protest of the GOP leadership’s refusal to allow a vote on a gun control measure following the Orlando massacre.

Led by Reps. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the civil rights icon, and John Larson (D-Conn.), more than 40 Democrats walked into the chamber just before noon and pledged to “occupy” the House floor until GOP leadership allowed a vote. In one hour, their numbers more than tripled — even as Republicans recessed the House, turning off C-SPAN cameras and the video feed to the public.

https://www.politico.com/story/2016/06/democrats-stage-sit-in-on-house-floor-to-force-gun-vote-224656

Well guess what?

It is the GOP’s turn to act up and perform for the cameras.

The Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility sits in the basement of the Capitol, and it’s been the site of more than a little drama on Wednesday. More than two dozen House Republicans who had been giving a news conference outside the room stormed into it as Laura Cooper—deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia—was due to give testimony in a closed-door hearing. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said some who entered were “literally … just screaming … saying that the process is wrong.” House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff reportedly exited the room with Cooper, essentially postponing the hearing.

Politico reports the “standoff” was unresolved “by mid-morning,” with Republicans who had barged in refusing to leave. The Hill reports GOP lawmakers are reportedly upset that only members of the three House panels overseeing the impeachment inquiry are permitted to attend the closed-door hearings and say the interview transcripts should be publicly available to the American people. Politico’s sources say some Republicans carried their cellphones with them into the room, a House rules violation that triggered a sweep of the room for security issues.

Like I keep stating…GAMES.

5 hours of taxpayers time wasted on this gimmick to get on the evening news……

Before we get the usual diatribes……

The GOP is represented in these hearings (45 members of the GOP)…there is NO trial in the House that takes place in the Senate and any evidence gained will be presented there.

The New York Times reports that a quarter of House Republicans, including some of those involved in the sit-in, are committee members allowed to attend the hearings. “They crashed a room where there were a bunch of Republicans getting ready to question a witness,” says Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin. “Their attempt to act like Freedom Riders is really an attack on the committee system in Congress.” The Times notes that the sit-in ended when lawmakers were summoned to the House for a vote.

This was a wasted stunt……

Rudy–Everyone’s Crazy Uncle Bob

Nudge nudge, wink wink, Bob’s your uncle.

No matter which side of the debate your are on we have to admit that Trump’s lawyer Rudy is acting and sounding like your crazy Uncle Bob…you know the one….he is the one that has an opinion on everything and is loud and usually wrong.

But is Rudy still Trump’s personal lawyer?  The question for the week……..

Rudy Giuliani remains in the hot seat over his dealings in Ukraine for President Trump, with a reported federal investigation into his lobbying and his role in undermining the ex-American ambassador to Ukraine. Now, President Trump is not only saying he doesn’t know the two Giuliani associates who were arrested this week for campaign finance violations—he doesn’t even seem 100% sure what role Giuliani still plays in his sphere. As the president left the White House Friday to head to a rally in Louisiana, a reporter asked him if Giuliani was still his personal attorney, and Trump waffled a bit. “Well, I don’t know, I haven’t spoken to Rudy,” he responded. “I spoke to him yesterday briefly, uh, he’s a very good attorney, and he has been my attorney, yeah, sure.”

That’s all he said on that, but the Washington Post notes Giuliani had a more definitive answer. “Yes. I am still his attorney,” the ex-New York City mayor texted to the paper’s Josh Dawsey. A source said to be close to Trump’s legal team tells CNN that Giuliani is indeed still the president’s lawyer, but that he won’t be handling anything involving Ukraine. Giuliani’s own words to the news outlet: “There are no Ukraine issues. I finished that in March. I’m still representing him.” The White House declined to comment on the whole matter. Meanwhile, sources tell Politico that others in Trump’s sphere want Giuliani out of there, his “long-winded monologues” and “freewheeling accusations” a liability to the president. “Rudy Giuliani needs to stop talking,” an ex-campaign official says.

But The Donald does not sound so sure of it……

I hear people say that Rudy has been driven to these antics because of his failed presidential attempt……he had put all the goodwill of being the mayor of NYC on 9/11 and it was not enough…he was rudderless after that….

But I do not agree…I think he has always been a nut case he just has the chance now to make it more pronounced…..and to display his nutcase wisdom.

And I am not alone in this thought…..

I will be the hero! These morons—when this is over, I will be the hero…. Anything I did should be praised.”

These are the words of President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, speaking of the government operative who leaked information about the president’s conversations with the Ukrainian president that has led to impeachment proceedings. Out of context, they appear to be narcissistic ravings. In context, they are just another installment of the constant refrain Americans are used to hearing from the president’s lead defender. No matter how unhinged Giuliani sounds in one interview, the cameras go back to him again and again.

The regular media meltdowns have almost become a real-time comedy for US news consumers, although it has all taken a serious turn. He’s now the focus of the impeachment probes as well; two of his associates were recently arrested.

US media are asking: How could this happen? How did a two-term mayor of a major city, previously a famous federal prosecutor, and someone thought to be a future president, once lauded for reducing crime in New York City and serving as a rallying figure after the World Trade Center attacks, turn into such a primetime clown of the Trump era? How could a crime fighter become the center of criminal intrigue?

Actually, Rudy Giuliani Has Always Been Like This

He has always thought the country owes him something for being the mayor of NYC on 9/11……

We owe him NOTHING!  He is getting a feee ride on the taxpayer dime.  Debt paid!

Dems Proven Hapless

For years I have been calling the Dems all sorts of names such as clowns, cowards, feckless and hapless…..well the Dem controlled House proved yesterday just how hapless and impotent they truly have become.

Did you see the Theater of the Absurd?

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing yesterday and it was a waste of time and proved just how hapless these people are…..

The White House told Corey Lewandowski, President Trump’s onetime campaign manager, not to testify about any discussions with Trump or his advisers when he appeared before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. The intention is “to protect executive branch confidentiality,” said Lewandowski, who never worked in the White House. “I recognize this is not my privilege,” he told the committee, “but I am respecting the White House’s decision.” White House lawyers took seats behind Lewandowski for the hearing, the BBC reports, and Lewandowski stuck to the script—or lack of one. That frustrated Democrats gathering information about whether to draft articles of impeachment against Trump and potential obstruction of justice referred to in the Mueller report into Russian interference in the 2016 election, per the Washington Post. It pleased the president, who tweeted “Thank you Corey!” for his “beautiful” opening statement.

A “contempt” suggestion was made by a lawmaker, and Lewandowski seemed to return the sentiment. The exchanges included:

  • Asked by Rep. Eric Swalwell to read the evidence he gave from the Mueller report, Lewandowski mocked his questioner as “President Swalwell.”
  • When Rep. Jamie Raskin said the tooth fairy isn’t real, Lewandowski said, “My children are watching, so thank you for that.”
  • “He’s filibustering,” Chairman Jerry Nadler said when Lewandowski demanded a copy of the Mueller Report, per Fox.
  • As Lewandowski talked over her, Rep. Pramila Jayapal yelled, “This is my time!” She added: “You are a witness before the Judiciary Committee. Please act like it!”
  • Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, whose question he had called a “rant,” admonished Lewandowski as well: “This is the House Judiciary Committee! Not a house party!”
  • Lewandowski is reportedly thinking about running for the Senate from New Hampshire next year and, during a break in the hearing, tweeted a link to his website where supporters can sign up to help, per the Hill. “You are not on the campaign trail yet,” Rep. Hakeem Jeffries told him.

The White House had invoked executive privilege Monday night to cover two presidential aides who were to testify Tuesday, Rob Porter and Pat Cipollone. Neither showed up for the hearing. “This is a cover-up, plain and simple,” Nadler said

The Dems are allowing these thugs pretending to be people to run the show…..they should send “Lew” Baby to the corner for contempt and any other d/bag from the Trump admin that wants to play hard ball.

But instead the Dems try to play hardball with a nerf ball….and then they wonder why they cannot get the attention they need…they have NO long term plan they just skate from one election to the next.

Dems have great ideas but really suck at the game of politics.

And for that they will always be playing catch-up.

Under Order From Supreme Leader

First Trump orders American companies to find a way out of the China market…….https://lobotero.com/2019/08/26/a-state-controlled-economy/…now he is ordering you and me as well….

As part of his ever-escalating trade war with China, Donald Trump has ordered Americans to stop patronizing Chinese restaurants.

“If they think they can outsmart me, they better think again,” said the master negotiator. “I am hitting them where it hurts, in the stomach. This was always my nuclear option and I’m using it. No more family nights at the local Chinese restaurant … no more takeout.”

Following Trump’s latest directive, which he put out in a tweet, a few staff members gently tried to explain to Trump that the People’s Republic of China does not own any restaurants in the United States, let alone Chinese restaurants; that this boycotting of Chinese eateries will have no effect on our adversary.

“Maybe not,” said Trump, “but it will severely cut down on the food they export to our country. Where do you think all those Peking ducks come from? And those fortune cookies? And that special, secret sauce for General Tso’s chicken? … China.”

It remains to be seen if Americans will give up their love of Chinese food. Already several Jewish organizations, including the Jewish Federation of North America and the National Council of Jewish Woman, have come out strongly in opposition to the proposed ban.

(Yahoo News)

Does he know how incredibly STUPID he sounds?

I thought this might be an Onion post….but I could not find a Snark tag…..

Peking is a cooking method not a place.  Fortune cookies were invested in San Francisco I believe  as  well as General Tso’s Chicken….this man illustrates daily to me that he should not be allowed to do anything but some about Reality TV of which he is a bit of an expert.

They Showed Their Ass

Closing Thought–11Jun19

You know how the people you know complain about the Congress and the way they are a do-nothing bunch…..well yesterday the GOP showed exactly why they are the laughing stock of the nation….

The House Judiciary Committee on Monday held the first of a series of hearings to examine the findings of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s report in order to determine if any further action, including an impeachment inquiry, is needed.

But the Republican members of the Judiciary Committee chose to spend their time during the hearing delivering petulant, conspiratorial rants instead of taking the hearing seriously or asking any questions that might be relevant to the facts of Mueller’s report.

Most of the Republicans’ childish comments were directed at John Dean, who served as White House counsel to former President Richard Nixon. Dean was brought into the hearing to put Trump’s alleged obstruction of justice into historical context, given that Dean pleaded guilty to helping Nixon obstruct justice during the Watergate investigation.

https://shareblue.com/gop-congressmen-humiliate-themselves-ranting-mueller-report-hearing/

They tried to be cute with John Dean and Dean handed them their asses at every turn……

The GOP has proven to the clowns I have always said they were and I appreciate them making me a prophet……and yet as silly as they all were they will be re-elected at most turns….so maybe the clowns and buffoons are the voters after all.

All in all the GOP clowns gave me a good chuckle yesterday….for that I thank them …..especially this d/bag……Hawley of Missouri……

“Talk about living in the past,” he said. “The Democrats want to talk about Watergate? I mean this happened before I was born! This is a total waste of time. It’s a total waste of time.”

Missouri senator says it’s a waste of time to study history because it was a long time ago

This statement shows just how much damage the educational policies of the GOP have done to the schools and learning in this country…..it is all a joke.

This stunt, and it was a stunt, was more pathetic than the Dems with the KFC bucket when Barr decided not to honor a subpoena……games are all these spineless freaks know….it is never about the governing just how they look on CSPAN.

Closing Thought–12Mar19

I have listened to our Beloved Leader on many occasions and his use of simplistic language leads me believe that he has NO grasp on complex ideas or thoughts.

My daughter and I were discussing our Beloved Leader and I told her that he says he is a”really smart person” but I think that if he is a grad of Wharton, probably the 2nd best business school, then daddy bought his degree.

Then I read something his professor i marketing had to say about student Trump……

Donald J. Trump was an undergraduate student at Wharton for the latter two of his college years, having graduated in 1968

Professor Kelley told me 100 times over three decades that “Donald Trump was the dumbest goddam student I ever had.” I remember his emphasis and inflection — it went like this: “Donald Trump was the dumbest goddamn student I ever had.” Kelley told me this after Trump had become a celebrity, but long before he was considered a political figure. Kelley often referred to Trump’s arrogance when he told the story that Trump came to Wharton thinking he already knew everything.

https://www.alternet.org/2017/10/former-wharton-professor-trump-was-dumbest-gddam-student-i-ever-had/

I knew it!

Who needs to study hard to get ahead when Daddy has money and the school needs a new classroom?
