Oh Yeah,That Darn Pesky Constitution!

Daily we are bombarded with accusations of this or that is unconstitutional….just about everything the Obama utters is claimed to be unconstitutional…….if one mentions the 2nd amendment, then the counter is that whatever is said is unconstitutional, the same with economic stimulus or well the list goes on and on and ………….

Recently the GOP in Congress has introduced a bill that basically says, “No Budget, No Pay”……meaning that if the US Congress does not pass a budget this year then the elected officials will not get their pay.  Personally, I like the idea of no work, no pay but I would like it to be about ALL issues not just the issue du jour…….I have written this often….but as much as I like my idea or the GOP idea there is a problem……..

And what would the problem be?  The Constitution!

But first, what is this all about?

“No Budget, No Pay” was originally proposed by No Labels, a group of Democrats, Republicans and independents dedicated to the politics of problem-solving. I helped found the citizens’ group in 2010 with Mark McKinnon, Nancy Jacobson, Bill Galston, Lisa Borders, Kiki McLean, David Walker and many others. The proposal was the cornerstone of the “Make Congress Work” plan released last year.

Now Boehner has jumped on this band wagon……The House has passed its “no budget, no pay” bill, which suspends the debt ceiling for three months and calls upon both chambers of Congress to pass a budget resolution for fiscal year 2014 by April 15. Under terms of the legislation, if lawmakers miss that deadline their salaries are withheld. That’s where the “no pay” part of the thing kicks in.

And now the constitutional part of this thing…….the 27th amendment to the US Constitution states……..”No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.”

Oops!  You would think that the very person who wanted ALL legislation would be accompanied by a Constitutional verification would do a better job……you would think!

I have called our elected officials morons and idiots and NOTHING they do changes my opinion of them.  If anything….I think less of them………

A Moron Will Always Be a Moron

You would think that with all the idiots that do something illegal and then post it on Youtube and get caught would learn a lesson or two…..apparently a moron will always be a moron…….and this guy is a huge moron with the IQ of his hat size…….

A 30-year-old Oregon man who allegedly tattooed his name near the vagina of a teenaged girl faces charges, including third-degree rape.

An affidavit filed in Oregon’s Benton County Court states that the victim, who has not been publicly identified, told police that Matthew Abram Rader gave her three tattoos for her 15th birthday, including one of his name “near her vagina.”

Police interpreted this to mean that Rader had engaged in a sexual relationship with the victim when she was 14 years old. In Oregon, sexual intercourse with a person under age 16 is considered third-degree rape.

The victim told police that she had never revealed her true age to Rader. However, Oregon law states the fact that a “defendant did not know the child’s age or… reasonably believed the child to be older than the age of 16” is not a viable defense for rape.

Beginning December 2012, police investigated Rader with the victim’s cooperation, reviewing dozens of pages of sexually explicit messages between her and Rader, according to KVAL. During a Facebook exchange with an officer posing as the victim, Rader allegedly asked for nude photographs of the girl.

Corvallis, Ore., police arrested Rader Jan. 2. He is being held in Benton County Jail on $200,000 bail and faces charges of third-degree rape, second-degree online sexual corruption of a child and a count of using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct.

So this idiot thought a tat of his name next to a minor’s va-jay-jay was a good idea………this moron is the same moron that writes a bank stick up note on the back of his personal deposit slip……….see what happens when you swim in the shallow end of the gene pool?

Water, Water Everywhere

The weekend and time for some sciencey stuff……..we have learned that water is essential for the development of life forms……and now we have a report from Mars……

(Newser) – Photos of an enormous crater on Mars indicate possible underground water—water that could have supported life, and could still be doing so. Images taken by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter show the 57-mile-wide McLaughlin Crater, which is now dry. It’s one of the planet’s deepest spots at 1.3 miles, and minerals there indicate upwelled groundwater may have formed a lake on the spot some 4 billion years ago. One other sign of a former lake, per Space.com: channels that climb 1,650 feet up the walls of the crater’s eastern side.

Because the surface of the planet is inhospitably cold, scientists have focused on lower layers in a search for possible life. Earth’s underground is home to almost half its living matter, in the form of microbes, and in like fashion, “the deep crust has always been the most habitable place on Mars,” says the study’s head author. His work began as an attempt to disprove that water had flowed to Mars’ surface. But “lo and behold, there was strong evidence for that process in this crater,” he notes. “Science is special because we are allowed to change our minds.”

Are we talking about H2O or some liquified substance?  Thoughts?

The War On Science

I am sure by now you have heard the accusations that the Right is having a war on women, a war on minorities and a war on science…….but you know the Right is not by itself…….liberals are just as bad and as hard on science……I know….what the Hell?

(Newser) – Conventional wisdom holds that Republicans, not Democrats, are waging a war on science. But “there’s a liberal war on science” too, writes Michael Shermer in Scientific American. Yes, it’s true that 58% of conservatives believe humans were created, by God, in the past 10,000 years. But 41% of liberals hold that same belief. Similarly, 51% of Republicans doubt the Earth is heating up, but 19% of Democrats feel the same way. “These numbers do not exactly bolster the common belief that liberals are the people of the science book,” Shermer writes.

And there’s more: Liberals tend to be against nuclear energy (waste disposal issues), hydroelectric energy (dams in rivers interfere with ecosystems), fossil fuels (climate change), and wind power (bird deaths). And then there’s the fight against genetically modified foods, even though GMOs are really the only way we can feed the planet. “The underlying current is ‘everything natural is good’ and ‘everything unnatural is bad,'” Shermer writes. The truth is that both sides treat science just about equally, they just feel strongly about different issues. It’s time to encourage moderation on both sides. Click for Shermer’s full column.

What Is All This Gun BS?

This will be my last post on this subject……no matter what is said….it is wrong….depending on where you stand……

Because the crazies on both sides of this issue are trolling the internet…..I thought I would give them something to do……….the question is…..what is all this gun BS about?  First, NOTHING will be done other than some band aid like background checks and that will be it…….so stop whining!  Second, NO one is coming for your guns and that includes Obama……if you think so name one law he enacted that jeopardized your guns…….Dems do not have the  nuts to take on gun issues and neither do the Repubs……not even common sense solutions will be dead on arrival…….Third, even if some law was enacted it would not get past the states…..look at abortion or voting rights or pick a subject……the state legislatures will find a way around any federal law that they do not agree with…..so stop whining there is No way any guns will be confiscated from “law abiding” citizens…….

I have had a couple of my right wing friends say that I bitch a lot but offer no solutions……first, that is bullshit!  I have offered solutions they just either disagree or do not read enough of this blog to make an accurate assumption…….

My most extreme solution to gun ownership is that No one can own a gun if they have not served in the military……if a person has put their life on the line for their country then they should have some special dispensations……Now I realize this is a “no fly” and like I said it is my most extreme solution……

Everybody is entitled to hunting guns, shotguns and handguns…….no assault weapons….but if we must have assault weapons in the hands of civilians then No magazine over 12 rounds…….if a person needs more than 12 shots then they are a menace to society or flipping blind!  And if they need more than 12 shots to defend themselves then buy a shotgun because you are a  moron and a danger to yourself…….okay then we will have the ea brains that say they hunt with an assault weapon……..if you are that bad of a shot then do your hunting at Winn-Dixie……..

Finally, all this accusations of people coming for your guns is nothing but a way to sell more guns…….it is propaganda that is preying on people’s fear and paranoia……I reiterate….NO ONE IS COMING FOR YOUR GUNS!  Stop whining and get a grip!

Progressive?

After the prez and his inaugural address I read the reviews…..just about all call it a progressive speech for a progressive future…….poppycock!  I am and have always been a progressive and nothing Obama has done is progressive.  He may have a few progressive ideas but they went NO where……

The media is defining the term progressive……stop it!  A progressive is liberal but a liberal is not necessarily a progressive…….I refuse to let the media define me and my beliefs…….I am an old fart and being such there is a difference…..the media has successfully made the word liberal and progressive synonymous……they are NOT!  Only to mental midgets and partisan bobble heads are they the same……

A Progressive is favoring or promoting political or social reform through government action, or even revolution, to improve the lot of the majority……….Progressives in the 21st century continue in this tradition of democracy building and open transparency of corporate and political power. Progressive values are rooted in the American traditions of equality, fairness, due process, and democratic decision making at the deepest level possible. Progressives recognize that institutional power, both public and private, has created inequalities of race, class and gender, and that democratic governmental regulation is needed to make necessary social justice corrections for humanity worldwide. Progressives believe in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Bill of Rights, open access to corporate and governmental information, democratic media and individual human freedom. Obama promised change and we got a toothless financial package, and impotent health care bill, and I expect no more come this second term……..Progressive politics is about moving society forward to a better life for its citizens and Obama has not accomplished that as of yet……..and I doubt if it will this time around.

And please do not say that Clinton was a progressive…..that is total crap!  Clinton and his cronies did nothing to move society forward, all his so-called accomplishments did was make profits a lot easier with the promise of a trickle down con……..and as we know, trickle down is total crap……

All this is leading to my point…..I demand an apology from the media for using progressive to characterize Obama…….it is insulting to us progressives…….
