I am weary of analogies….especially when they are erroneous…….
We all have heard the chatter and the ranting about this socialist thing or that communist person….he acts like Stalin or that he/she thinks like Marx….there seems to be much of the manufactured stories flying all around the web and especially on the blog-a-sphere…..
But there are few things happening that would make the despicable dictator like Stalin swell with pride…..one such happening is the current situation in Michigan….
Michigan’s new governor, Rick Synder has stepped into a pile of bovine fecal matter…..
Snyder recently signed a bill that gives him powers to unilaterally take over local governments by appointing “emergency financial managers” with near absolute powers to supersede decisions made by democratically elected officials.
Snyder just made Orwellian Tea Party history when his appointed “emergency financial manager” for Benton Harbor, Michigan, prohibited elected officials of that city from making any decisions or otherwise carrying out their duties.
As an outraged Michigan blogger observes:
This is a complete disenfranchisement of an entire community, an entire city in my state. The voters are now denied the ability to be governed by the people they elected in a democratic election.
This is nothing short of an abridgment of democracy in raw form.
After all the sign pumping about patriotism and democracy and government intervention….where are those crazy right wing nuts on this situation?
Sorry, but I do want to burst people’s bubble…but if you want analogy (it seems many cannot live without them) then the action by Snyder is straight out of a playbook of Stalin and his rush to control every aspect of Russian life and governance….I want these loud mouth people on the Right to call out the people in their own movement as quickly as they condemn others…..
I forgot a couple of facts….the town in question is about 85% black and the town next door is mostly white and they want a country club and course that will need to eat up some of the town in question….looks like someone is playing race card….but I would bet that they have friends that are black…..
Thanks. I hadn’t heard that he actually implemented the new law that just passed Michigan’s newly elected Republican congress. Great analogy by the way! As if it matters (it probably doesn’t) I heard on NPR radio this morning that Michigan State University is putting together a committee that will educate economically challenged cities on how not to forfeit the “peoples constitutionally sanctioned right to free elections”, i.e. how not to be taken over by Snider’s raiders.
You are welcome bwin……I just hope people read this and see where the Repubs, especially the Tea Party group are trying to take the country…..and I wish UM all the luck for success…I just hope it is not too late for the people…..
I bet the MILLIONS of innocent people that were killed under his regime are rolling over in their graves. These things happened they were horrible and the leaders who perpetrated them should be recognized as the monsters that they were. …John.USA.October 14th 2009.11 54 am….Before we pat ourselves on the back and point fingers let us remember that it was Western intervention in Russian affairs first to keep Russia in World War I and then later in support of fascist and anti-semitic armed groups during the Civil War 1919 to 1924 that led to a totalitarian mentality that paved the way for Stalins rise to power.Later on the West support the growth of fascism and Naziism in central Europe that enhanced Stalins paranoia.
I know this is SPAM but at least this one addressed the actual post and not some lame verbiage meaning nothing….
IMO, the problem should be seen as an ongoing one – the West (and the US in particular, but the UK is as guilty) has had this policy of supporting ANY asshole who is agianst whoever the administration sees as its number one enemy (for instance Mubarak in Egypt who was violently – literally – anti Shia Moslem).
Granted……and nothing will change…..we will support the biggest a/hole for the dumbest of reasons…..
This is a very important story, and the main stream media hasn’t yet discovered it. Kinda reminds me of New Detroit in the movie Robocop.

Kurt…….I was told that MSNBC’s Maddow has been reporting on this for a couple of days…..I agree that it should be a major story and the political game of the debt a secondary one……the loss of democratic process is a major story in my book….
I agree kurt, this is very important! This takes the voter out of the equation, eliminates voting in the long run, and gives a small group of people the power to “appoint” whoever they want. This should be absolute blasphemy for anyone who claims to be American. These morons on the right… yes morons… are confusing limited government with limiting our right to participate in government.
I now think Trump should be their man in 2012 so they can be consistent , insane candidate, insane methodology , giant balls, and complete contempt for the United States and its laws.
If you cant claim voter fraud, make the voter irrelevant. If you cant beat em’ denounce socialism publicly, and behave like a communist… publicly!??!!
