Will We Ever Enter The 21st Century?

From the VOMITORIUM

I live in the cultural wasteland known as Mississippi and I have been critical of just about everything in the state, especially the government and its leader Haley Barbour…..but there are other things in the state that just does not hint that it will ever enter the 21st century……..I like to say when you cross into Mississippi there is a sign that states, “Now entering Mississippi…..Set your watch back 150 years”……

The Dems lost Mississippi with the approval of the Civil Rights Act and it has NEVER come back and it most likely NEVER will….for you see racism is still a driving force in the state….

In the past, it was illegal to have more than one illegitimate child and until recently it was illegal to be in a mixed marriage…just to name a few of the laws we have had to deal with in the past….in a recent poll, Mississippi was named the Most Conservative state in the Union……and most of the polling indicates that racism is NOT dead in the state……of course, they all try to hide it with things like, “I have many friends who are black”….this one is used lots and is a key word and phrase when you hear anyone talking about race……

And since Mississippi has the title of Most Conservative I found a poll along those lines on the blog of Jonathan Turley, a constitutional professor….

A poll released this week shows that 46% percent of Mississippi Republicans believe that interracial marriage should be illegal. That staggering number is accompanied by only 40% who believe that adults should be free to marry who they want. This poll just happens to come out on the anniversary of the argument in Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1 (1967), where the Supreme Court in a 9-0 vote struck down Virginia’s anti-miscegenation statute.

The poll means that one out of two Mississippi Republicans want to return to the pre-Loving status where (under Pace v. Alabama (1883)) couples could be thrown into jail for marrying outside of their race. In the case of Mildred Loving and Richard Perry Loving, Virginia police raid their home in an effort to find them in a sexual act to bring a criminal charge but quickly changed the charge when shown a marriage license of Washington, D.C. They were charged under Section 20-58 of the Virginia Code, which prohibited interracial couples from being married out of state and then returning to Virginia as well as the miscegenation provision under Section 20-59. After they pleaded guilty, Judge Leon M. Bazile handed down a one-year sentence (suspended for 25 years on condition that the couple leave the state of Virginia) with these infamous words:

“Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.”

So, if you think you have it bad where you live….then think back to this post and realize you may not have it so bad after all……..

If I Only Had A Brain!

Remember those immortal words from the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz?  I have questioned the mental capabilities of conservs as well as libs….after watching these people over the years I see a disconnect on the way people process information……my analysis was NOT anything scientific, just observations for the last 40 years…….I could not explain why Libs seem to be more analytical and conserv seem to be more prone to letting slogans explain their thinking…….for many years I had been unkind to my conserv friends….and now I know why I was so confused……thanx to CBS News…..

Are political leanings hard-wired into the brain? That’s the suggestion of a new study that reveals striking anatomical differences between the brains of liberals and those of conservatives.  The brains of people who call themselves liberals tend to have larger anterior cingulate cortexes than the brains of people on the opposite side of the political spectrum, the study showed.  The anterior cingulate cortex is a collar-shaped region around the corpus collosum, a structure that relays signals between the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

What about conservatives? Their brains brains tend to have larger amygdalas.   The amygdala is an almond-shaped structure located deep within the brain.

Based upon what brain scientists know about the function of the two brain regions, researchers believe the structural differences support the notion that liberals are better equipped to make sense of conflicting information while conservatives are better able to recognize a threat.  For the study, published in the April 7 issue of the journal Current Biology, 90 healthy young people underwent MRI scans and completed questionnaires designed to determine their political leanings on a five-point scale – from very liberal to very conservative.

That explains it!……They cannot help themselves….it is biological!

Rep. Paul Ryan–Boy Genius

From the VOMITORIUM

It is Spring and a young man’s fancy turns to LOVE……..a sickening love….a festival of amorous ramblings by politicos and journalists…..(at this point I am shoving my finger down my throat and forcing a good strong puke)……

The wiz kid of the GOP, Rep. Ryan, has offered his 2012 budget and the analysis begins…he has been called courageous….he has been called a visionary….he has been called many thing….some good….some bad….but the beltway is full love for the boy genius…..the love in is sickening…..not one of the politics reports that the numbers do not add up…..they do not question it when he says unemployment will be 2.8%….it has not been that low in 50+ years……it is a pipedream ………

The most glaring number was Heritage’s unemployment projection, which they saw dropping to 6.4% in 2012 and an unprecedented 2.8% in 2021. In an interview with Slate‘s Dave Weigel, the director of the Heritage Foundation’s Center for Data Analysis, William Beach, admitted his study’s figures might strain belief.the CBO concluded that not only would the new proposal cost seniors more than the current Medicare plan, but that the cost to seniors could triple by 2030.  And the CBO concluded, there was no indication that the cost would not continue to rise thereafter.

Finally the CBO concludes that there would be no significant reduction to the deficit despite shifting the cost from Medicare to individual seniors.  Government contribution (the subsidies) under the proposed system would have to reflect the higher costs of private insurance and take into account the declining income of seniors as well as their probable higher health costs…..

The problem is the boy genius gets his talking points from the Heritage Foundation……that conservative think tank that has all the ideas that Repubs use in their attacks on social issues…..

Please stop calling this man a genius or courageous or whatever you think is adequate……stop the love fest!  Report on the numbers that he gets from the Heritage bunch…….there is NOTHING courageous about repeating points and figures you are given by your controlling think tank…….
