Another Can’t Fix Stupid

It is Sunday and I am always amazed just how stupid Americans are about history….especially those that want to help rule the country….

I am referring to the Senator-elect from Alabama, Tommy Tuberville.

This is his reason for the US fighting in World War 2……

“It’s concerning to me that a guy can run for president of the United States and have an opportunity to win when he leans more to a socialist type of government, you know, one-payer system in health care, raise taxes 20 percent, when the other half the country is basically voting for freedom, let us control our own lives, stay out of our life,” said Tuberville, a former college football coach. “You know, as I tell people, my dad fought 76 years ago in Europe to free Europe of socialism.”

Think about that for a moment…..

Did you spot the stupid in that statement?

In case you are confused…..

In World War II, the United States was fighting against the Axis powers, which were mostly right-wing fascist governments. In fact, Americans fought alongside the socialist USSR as allies.

I guess he took too many hits to the head….or maybe his bad knees go all the way to his head…..either way….

John McCain–American Hero

This will be my last tribute to the memory of John McCain…..Me I seldom agreed with this man on policy….he was a neocon and too pro war for my book…..however he was a man that met his obligation to the country by his military service.  He was loved by the GOP as well as hated by the same…..most people that “hated” the man had NO idea what he was about…..and the ones that speak the most vile crap are those that stayed home during war and hide behind deferments….

This is the last post I will write to John McCain…..

In my dictionary, a “hero” is 1) an illustrious warrior; 2) a man admired for his noble qualities;or 3) one who shows great courage. John McCain met all the criteria.

As a United States Navy pilot, McCain was daring to the point of recklessness, determined always to be in the thick of the fight. His conduct during a long and brutal captivity in Vietnam was the definition of nobility and courage.

His Senate career demonstrated courage of a different sort, as he staked out independent positions on issues ranging from immigration to torture to campaign finance.

In his final days, McCain was one of the few leaders of his party to directly challenge the Trump administration, calling for a restoration of civility in our politics, and integrity in our public life.

His last words to the country and its people…….

Before he died, John McCain wrote a farewell letter to Americans in which he expressed thanks for the privilege of serving and said the nation’s “present difficulties” would pass. See the full text at the Atlantic. Here are four excerpts:

  • “I’ve tried to serve our country honorably. I’ve made mistakes but I hope my love for America will be weighed favorably against them. I’ve often observed that I am the luckiest person on earth. I feel that way even now, as I prepare for the end of my life. I’ve loved my life, all of it.”
  • “We weaken our greatness when we confuse our patriotism with tribal rivalries that have sown resentment, and hatred and violence in all the corners of the globe. We weaken it when we hide behind walls, rather than tear them down …”
  • Our public debates can be nasty, but “we have always had so much more in common with each other than in disagreement. If only we remember that and give each other the benefit of the presumption that we all love our country, we will get through these challenging times.”

“Do not despair of our present difficulties. We believe always in the promise and greatness of America because nothing is inevitable here. Americans never quit, we never surrender, we never hide from history. We make history. Farewell fellow Americans, God bless you, and God bless America.”

Once again in case it was missed…..See the full text at the Atlantic.

And that my friends is how a true American hero makes a speech.

Senator John McCain may you Rest In Peace.

Closing Thought–20Jul17

Facing One More Challenge!

Sen. John McCain has had to face many challenges in his life….POW, political winds and now a medical challenge…..

Arizona Sen. John McCain has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, his office said in a statement Wednesday. The 80-year-old lawmaker has glioblastoma, an aggressive cancer, according to doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, where McCain had a blood clot removed from above his left eye last Friday. “Subsequent tissue pathology revealed that a primary brain tumor known as a glioblastoma was associated with the blood clot,” his office said in a statement. According to the American Brain Tumor Association, more than 12,000 people a year are diagnosed with glioblastoma, a particularly aggressive type of tumor. The American Cancer Society puts the five-year survival rate for patients over 55 at about 4%.

It’s the same type of tumor that struck McCain’s close Democratic colleague in legislative battles, the late Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts. The tumor digs tentacle-like roots into normal brain tissue. Patients fare best when surgeons can cut out all the visible tumor, which happened with McCain’s tumor, according to his office. That isn’t a cure; cancerous cells that aren’t visible still tend to lurk, the reason McCain’s doctors are considering further treatment, including chemotherapy and radiation. McCain has had a lifetime of near-death experiences, reports the AP: surviving the July 1967 fire and explosion on the USS Forrestal that killed 134 sailors; flying into power lines in Spain; the October 1967 shoot-down of his Navy aircraft and fall into Truc Bach Lake in Hanoi; and 5.5 years in a North Vietnamese prison.

McCain has always been a fighter and I am sure that he will fight this turn tooth and nail……if anyone can beat this diagnosis it is John McCain.

While we seldom agreed with McCain politically IST wishes to issue a strong support for a speedy recovery…..and our prayers are with him and his family.

Time to kick back and relax for the rest of the day….I shall return with a bag of more stuff…..chuq

Joke Of The Week–Venture Socialism

The GOP/Teabagger wind bag is at it again…..Sen. DeMint…this time he is using the tired old argument of socialism……again!

“I would love to be able to work with the president on something — but he’s practicing what we call ‘venture socialism.’ — I mean, he basically has taken an approach where it’s the government that needs to stimulate jobs,” DeMint told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren. “And I know as an employer . . . you don’t hire someone because the payroll tax is a little lower or you get a $4,000 tax credit.

The socialism thing again, huh?  Do they not see how out of touch they really are when they keep throwing that accusation around?  Let me help them out just a wee bit….this from this from web site, AddictingInfo…….

Democracy is a form of government in which all citizens take part. It is government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Socialism is where we all put our resources together and work for the common good of us all and not just for our own benefit. In this sense, we are sharing the wealth within society.

Of course when people hear that term, “Share the wealth” they start screaming, “OMG you want to rob from the rich and give it all to the poor!” But that is NOT what Democratic Socialism means.

To a Democratic Socialist, sharing the wealth means pooling tax money together to design social programs that benefit ALL citizens of that country, city, state, etc.

Democratic Socialism does NOT mean taking from the rich and giving to the poor. It works to benefit everyone so the rich can no longer take advantage of the poor and middle class.

Okay, Google it!  There is NO such thing as venture socialism….well in DeMint’s tiny brain….but not in any political or economic theory….as usual the Teabaggers make up crap and use it for its fear factor….a made up crisis or situation…….kinda like a ponzi scheme or some shot that causes mental retardation……

Just how stupid do they think the American people are?  (that is a rhetorical question)………I try to ignore the silliness of an uninformed mind but sometimes I cannot let it go…..and DeMint and his moronic statements is one of those I cannot let go……Sorry if I am being redundant……

To Kill A Dictator

On the website of a loyal reader, Spinny Liberal (go to blogroll and click on her opinionated site…excellent reads) she had a post about the senators calling for the assassination of Qadhafi and it got me to remembering the days when there were hearings on the US and its numerous attempts to assassinate other leaders in various countries…….

Libya is still raging…in case you have missed it with all the hype and boring details of some royal wedding……..it is still a yo-yo fight, back and forth, back and forth……..and just recently Qadhafi’s compound was attacked (yet again) and the speculation is that the Norwegian (I believe) planes were after Qadhafi himself…….basically an assassination attempt.

On Easter Sunday and over the whole weekend Repub congress people we going on the airwaves and calling for the assassination of Qadhafi…..

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told CNN: “Right now there’s just not enough momentum by the rebels… So my recommendation to NATO and the administration is to cut the head of the snake off. Go to Tripoli, start bombing Gaddafi’s inner circle, their compounds, their military headquarters.”In response to Graham’s call for assassination, McCain expressed general agreement with targeting the Libyan leader, but declared US strategy had to be based on “winning the battle on the ground” not on “a chance of taking him out with a lucky air strike.”

Independent Senator Joseph Lieberman—the one-time vice presidential candidate of the Democratic Party—joined the campaign for escalation and echoed Graham’s call to assassinate Gaddafi. NATO, he declared, “has got to start thinking about whether they want to more directly target Gaddafi and his family.” Lieberman cynically declared that the UN resolution justified a policy of assassination on the grounds it would “protect the civilian population.”

Political assassination?

In 1974 the Congress established a committee to investigate possible U.S. involvement in plots to assassinate foreign leaders deemed hostile to U.S. interests.

The committee reported its findings in 1975 to a dismayed Congress. Public outcry was loud and immediate. At the urging of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, President Gerald R. Ford signed an Executive Order banning all federal employees from committing assassination as a tool of U.S foreign policy or for any other reason. Exec. Order No. 11905. The order was extended by President Ronald Reagan 15 years later to also preclude hired assassins.

It is basically illegal for anyone in the government to expressly go out and kill…..but since 9/11 that sort of illegality has been lessened in a rush to kill those who killed Americans…..the question now is….will the US use a proxy to do the deed?  The French seem to be in a rabid war footing, maybe they will do it for us……….

2011 Anal-Ocity #7

I know most of my readers think I have a hard on for the GOP and conservs….and yes I can be cruel to those I think are morons….but it by NO means eliminates the Dems from my wrath…..the problem is that they do not make as many factual mistakes as the Repubs….but they can be as ignorant as anyone else…..let me illustrate….

Every 5th grader knows that the US has a 3 branch style of government…..Executive, Legislative and Judicial….common knowledge….if not it should be!

But recently a well known Dem. leader, Chuck Schumer of NY, said in an interview on the SOTU address on CNN ……….

I would urge my Republican colleagues, no matter how strongly they feel — you know, we have three branches of government. We have a House. We have a Senate. We have a president. And all three of us are going to have to come together

A very ignorant thing to say, especially when you are a representative of the people and do not know the basics of our system…like the 3 branches of government……
Sen. Schumer….welcome to the Anal-Ocities!

They’re Baaaaaaaaaack! (Again….And Again….And…..)

After about 2 weeks of quiet…the time has come for the good thing to come to an end…..yesterday the new Congress, #112, were sworn in and they begin to work…….with all that hot air the temps in Washington should get warmer, if nothing else…….

It is official…..they have been sworn in…..and now the same crap begins again…….the theater of the absurd…….They raised their hands and promised to protect the Constitution and then tomorrow they will be told what the Constitution consist of in substance…yes…they will be read the Constitution on Thursday…I would think that a guardian of the Constitution should already be aware of what it contains and what it has to say….but then I believe in Santa Claus (for my conserv friends…that is called sarcasm)……

While the Dems were working on health care and reform…the Repubs were screaming about jobs and jobs creation….but that was the 111th Congress….and now with the new Congress and new faces in charge the Repubs are screaming about health care and the Dems are yelling…jobs…jobs…jobs…..the more things change, the more they remain the same……

God!  I love this stuff!

Remember the election of 2010?  The GOP used the economy, jobs and austerity in government as their message…please tell me the pea brains recall that…..but what happens when they trot into Washington in power?

on the eve of taking it over, a dozen freshman Republicans are throwing a lavish DC fundraiser headlined by LeAnn Rimes. For $2,500, Politico reports that lobbyists, PAC managers, and others will be able to hobnob with lawmakers at the swanky W Hotel, with the highest rollers paying $50,000 for access to the hotel’s “VIP suite.

Looks like the newly empowered are saying screw populism…you know that idea that carried them to victory in November?  And it does not end there…oh no…it gets better…..

THIS FROM TALKING POINTS MEMO……

Republicans’ deficit reduction platform, which may have helped catapult them into the majority, is about to run headlong into a hard reality: Many of their key policy goals will increase the deficit dramatically.

To get around this fact, they’ve included measures in their new rules package to exempt some of their biggest legislative priorities from deficit consideration. Among the exceptions, which the House is likely to consider in the 112th Congress, are the health care repeal bill (scheduled for a vote a week from Wednesday), the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax cuts, an AMT patch, extending the estate tax, and more.

You can read more about the health care repeal side of this here. And more about the GOP’s Calvinball rules here.

Austerity?  Did you really think you would get the same message once they were elected?  If so, then YOU are more stupid than I gave you credit!

There it is …your New Year’s gift from the GOP….a good and thorough f*cking…..and I LOVE IT!

“The Wicker Report”

Gulf South Free Press Editorial

Hey Mississippi….have you read your latest edition of the Wicker Report?  You know that little printed thing you get now and then from your Senator,  Roger Wicker?  And yes, I live in the state….ah go ahead make the jokes…most of them are sickeningly accurate anyway.

Well I have and found a couple of things that I want clarified.  So I have written him for that clarification…..and I wait…….

He had his report on health care reform…his first statement was that the “Focus on prevention, wellness and early detection”….all pretty good things but since the Repubs, and that includes Wicker are so concerned with tort reform and point to the doctors that are focusing on unnecessary test to cover their butts from lawsuit….would not his first statement be just a continuation of the very thing they want to eliminate?

Next in his section entitled, “What Wicker stands for” he states:

“Making health care more affordable for everyone”…..firast does this include those that are presently uninsured?  If so, how does HE and his Senate cohorts going to do this?  Second,  many employers that were recently polled and said that they expect increases in the cost of health care in the coming years if nothing is done.  So where is the affordability that Wicker wants?

His next point that he stands for, is “Allowing every American to purchase plans that Senators, Representatives and other federal employees have”….well that is cool…but is not that plan a government run health plan?  If so, I thought that the Repubs, of which Wicker is one, is against this sort of thing?

Finally, Wicker moved on to the things that he opposes about health care reform:

Wicker is against increasing the cost of health care….we have already covered this……all concerned have said it WILL go up with there is not reform.  So Sen. Wicker, what is your idea for holding it down?

He is against “limiting the treatment options available to patients”….what a great idea…but what about all the reports that say insurance companies are doing just that and that they are getting away with it?  If there is no health bill, how will Wicker and his band of merrymen do to control this?

Wicker neglected to mention that a national survey of doctors shows that about 73% say that the country needs some sort of public option or that a national poll showed that 63% of the people favor a public option….so my question is, where are all these people that the GOP says is against the option as a solution?

Plus he quotes stuff from the Lewin Group on Health care….but he fails to mention that the group is funded and operated by the insurance industry.  Personally, if you want me to side with you…then give me all the facts and I will make up my own mind.  I do not appreciate cherry picking facts just to make your position….you were elected to represent the people not your political ideology.

It is a good idea to inform the public back home, but if you do not tell the whole truth and only one small sliver of information….then you are not telling the truth and are doing nothing to help the people understand a complex issue.

Mississippians, you voted for this man….should you not be getting the whole truth on any issue from him?

Here Is The Future Without Health Reform

The debate rages…there are setbacks and some forward movement….but if the special interests have their way and no health reform is coming, what can we look forward to in the near future?

We have heard all the arguments pro and con of the health care debate, but there are a few things that will be certain without reform……costs will keep going up, people will DIE and the uninsured will be a drag on the economy.

Rep. Boner, my bad Boehner, has been a staunch critic of reform but this is what happens even in HIS district:

A 22-year-old woman from Oxford, Ohio, died from swine flu on Wednesday. Kimberly Young graduated from Miami University in December and continued to live in Oxford, Ohio, within Minority Leader John Boehner’s congressional distrct. Reports now indicate that after initially getting sick, Young put off treatment because she was uninsured:  (thanx to thinkprogress.com)

There are always horror stories when the health care debate is raging here is another one:

One of the worst abuses of private insurance companies is the practice of using spurious reasons to deny claims. In April, Rosalinda Miran-Ramirez awoke and found her shirt soaked in blood. Realizing that her “her left breast [was] bleeding from the nipple,” she rushed to the emergency room.

Today, CBS-5 reports that this San Francisco Department of Public Health employee has had her claim denied because her insurance company, Blue Shield of California, didn’t consider her situation to be an “emergency.” Even though her doctor told her it was likely a tumor, Blue Shield said that Miran-Ramirez should have known it wasn’t:

But Miran-Ramirez said the real shock came when her insurance company, Blue Shield of California HMO, which had initially approved the claim for the emergency room visit, reversed course and sent her a new bill three months later requiring her to pay the total charges for that visit: $2,791.00.

Once again thanx to thinkprogress.com for the content.

And within the debate are those people that are using the Constitution as an argument to proposed health reform, the tenthers as they are called because they say the 10th amendment says that it should not reform health care.  The worst indication of just how far these dipsticks will go, Sen. Ensign is saying:

A popular right-wing objection to federal health care legislation is that it’s unconstitutional. These “tenthersargue that since the U.S. Constitution never explicitly gives the federal government the right to regulate health care, the 10th amendment leaves that power to the states. Texas tenthers have held pro-secession rallies, and officials in various states have raised the possibility of legislation to exempt their residents from federal health care.

ENSIGN: We’ve allowed exceptions for religious and various other reasons. But some people hold the Constitution pretty high in their lives, and if they believe that this thing is unconstitutional, and they then say, “I choose not to have health insurance, I’m not going to buy it,” we could be subjecting those very people who conscientiously — because they believe in the U.S. Constitution — we could be subjecting them to fines or the interpretation of a judge, potentially, all the way up to imprisonment. That seems to me to be a problem.

These types just amaze me….they quote and hold-up the Constitution to make their point but yet want to violate the same document to further their agenda…like inserting themselves into people’s private lives….WHAT A PILE OF CRAP!

Everyone needs to decide what it will be in conjunction with the Constitution…either we go by strict adherence to it or it is up for interpretation.  But to fluctuate between the two is just plain IGNORANT!  And I mean that in EVERY sense of the word.

More From The Radical Right

We have heard all their, the radical right, BS…….Pres is a Kenyan, Death Panels, Obama is a socialist, Obama is a nazi, yada yada….and most thinking Americans have written them off as right wingnuts and someone who should be ignored.

But people, not all the BS comes from the right wingnuts…there are some respected, and I use the word very loosely, on the Right that are ass deep in the BS being spread.  No I am not talking about dipsticks like Rush or Coulter or Beck; I am sure there is someone somewhere that respects these BS factories, but rather I am talking about Senators and House members.

Just yesterday, Iowa’s Senator Grassley said to a group of 300:

You have every right to fear. You shouldn’t have counseling at the end of life, you should have done that 20 years before. Should not have a government run plan to decide when to pull the plug on grandma.”

He, Grassley, knows very well that there is no such provision in the bill as it is now.  Let me remind him that his colleague in the Senate, Isakson a fellow Repub from the state of Georgia who co-sponsored 2007’s Medicare end-of-life Planning Act.  Is Grassley accusing his fellow GOP member of wanting to “pull the plug on Grandma”?  BTW, Isakson said in a recent interview:

How someone could take an end of life directive or a living will as that is nuts. You’re putting the authority in the individual rather than the government. I don’t know how that got so mixed up. […]

It empowers you to be able to make decisions at a difficult time rather than having the government making them for you.

Grassley is not alone in the crazy world of Repub BS.  It seems that Repub. Congressman from Georgia said recently to a group of his people:

He also spoke of a “socialistic elite” – Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid – who might use a pandemic disease or natural disaster as an excuse to declare martial law.

“They’re trying to develop an environment where they can take over,” he said. “We’ve seen that historically.”

You see the radical right is not the problem.  They are a fringe group that will be marginalized, but when the members of the Senate and the House start repeating the BS then the GOP has a major problem.
