Acclaimed journalist and author Kurt Andersen has unlocked the secret behind Donald Trump’s appeal to his own voters.
Speaking to The Daily Beast Podcast’s Joanna Coles about the president’s actions overseas, including most recently in Iran, Andersen claimed Trump has “no clue” about the history of Iran and the Middle East.
“He’s an idiot. He’s always been stupid. And his stupidity has been an under-remarked-upon, unheralded part of his—long with the lying, along with the mental disorders—the stupidity is important.”
The Daily Beast has meticulously documented the president’s visible decline since his return to the White House, including interviewing medical experts who believe his obvious cognitive decline is the result of a serious medical event like a stroke. More than 60 percent of Americans believe that Trump has become increasingly erratic with age.
Andersen argues that the president’s stupidity, which predates his recent decline, is a feature that appeals to a broad swath of the voting public.

“But his most devoted supporters are evangelical Christians, because once you get a country in which so much belief in any old thing you want and hear and disbelief in things that are true, anything goes.”
“That wasn’t always the case,” Andersen notes. “It always tended to be the case in America a little bit, but then it got out of control in the last 60 years and, along with the internet, gave us Donald Trump.”

As one of my college professors said a great many years ago, “You need to remember that half the people in the country are of below average intelligence.”
Now that the obligatory bad joke has been taken care of, let’s get on with this.
This country has always had an anti-intellectual streak that goes back many generations, and which is pandered to by the media. Look at how scientists, professors, intellectuals, scholars, etc. are treated in fiction. They are portrayed as being untrustworthy, dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge at the expense of the welfare of the people in general, greedy, in pursuit of knowledge that is dangerous, etc. They are made out to be either bumbling fools, or out of touch with reality, or being amoral, or “playing god” by lusting after knowledge that “man was not meant to have”, or even being outright villains.
And this is something that politicians have been indulging in for generations as well. Politicians (and religions, for that matter) thrive on ignorance. Their greatest fear is having to deal with an intelligent, well, informed, well educated public because that kind of population would make it difficult or even impossible for them to continue to engage in the corruption that keeps them in positions of power and wealth.

Those who support him don’t care –and may not even notice– his mental state. All they care about is getting what THEY want out of him. Like getting rid of the blacks and immigrants, putting women in their place, amplifying religion, etc. The fact that he’s unable to form a complete sentence on his own … or finish a thought … is of no concern/importance to them so long as he puts THEIR wishes and desires into place.
And while I agree with this Andersen person that Trump is “stupid,” I would not use that word to describe him in a public way. JMO

Trump is stupid because he won’t learn. We learn from mistakes, but according to Trump, he doesn’t make mistakes, so there’s nothing to learn from. It’s part and parcel of being a narcissist. Now that his cognitive decline is significant, he is even stupider because he is stuck in the 70’s and 80’s.
I find the way he says things to be extremely cringe-worthy, though. His comments on the PRESENT Iran sent him? Who talks like that? Ten year olds? Oh boy, Donnie got a present. What else did he say, but I’m not going to tell you what it is? I don’t know why reporters engaged in twenty questions when they should’ve just asked if he were lying or when he’d stop lying to them.
If Trump is stupid, the MSM is stupider because they treat him like he’s normal.

Jack a large portion of the MSM is owned bu corporations that Donny is making more wealthy so they tone down their reports to appease the profit god. I have not trusted the MSM for many years. chuq
One of the worst things to happen to our democracy has been the for-profit news media. Instead of being regulated as a public good, it was thrown open to the forces of the market place. And now El Gran Jefe Estupido is using the cugel of the government to beat it into a shape ore pleasing to him.
Somethings should not be done for profit.
