Closing Thought–18Oct22

Social media has given us a wealth of bullsh*t that enters into our political system…..some are outrageous to the point of being moronic.

This is one of those ‘myths’ that social media has given us and that was picked up in our political discourse.

It seems that there is a rally around litter boxes in schools…..

You read that correctly….litter boxes…..

At a luncheon for Republican women in Mesa County, Colorado, last week, Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., warned that educators “are putting litter boxes in schools for people who identify as cats.”

To a person not steeped in the culture war battles over gender identity that have engulfed school districts nationwide, it’s the kind of claim that would sound bizarre and confusing — and, from high-profile GOP members, authoritative.

The week before, on Sept. 29, Minnesota GOP gubernatorial nominee Scott Jensen asked during a campaign stop, “Why do we have litter boxes in some of the school districts so kids can pee in them, because they identify as a furry?”

And during a legislative hearing last month in Tennessee, two Republican state lawmakers discussed the “growing crisis” of public schools providing litter boxes for children who identify as cats, and claimed it’s happening across the state.

At least 20 conservative candidates and elected officials have claimed this year that K-12 schools are placing litter boxes on campus or making other accommodations for students who identify as cats, according to an NBC News review of public statements.

Every school district that has been named by those 20 politicians said either to NBC News or in public statements that these claims are untrue. There is no evidence that any school has deployed litter boxes for students to use because they identify as cats.

Seriously?  Litter boxes in schools?

Just how far can these morons take total bullsh*t?

Worse yet there are those mental midgets that will believe this stuff….and will vote accordingly.

What kind of mental midget believes this crap?

Social media is ruining this country and our political process…..at what point is enough enough?

This puts those that believe this crap into the “Can’t Fix Stupid Files”

I weep for their stupidity.

“Legitimate Political Discourse”

Note:  I wrote this post before the Ukraine thing fired up…..so I thought I would step back from the war to look at what is happening in this country.

The GOP continues to downplay the insurrection of 06 January….they have been on the hunt for a tagline that would explain the treasonous acts committed that day and now they have a new one….’legitimate political discourse’.

“Legitimate political discourse” is an interesting phrase. Three weeks ago the Republican National Committee (RNC) voted overwhelmingly to call the violent putschist Capitol Rioters of January 6, 2021 ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.” That was their phrase for fascist marauders who:

+ Said “we’re going to take out country back” as they headed to physically assault the legislative branch of the US government.

+ Screamed “Hang Mike Pence” while invading the US Capitol to prevent the peaceful transfer of presidential power after the 2020 election.

+ Constructed gallows intended for the execution of Pence and other elected officials on the steps of the Capitol.

+ Chanted “USA, USA” and “Fight for Trump” while beating Capitol police officers, defacing monuments and paintings, breaking windows, denting doors, stealing government documents and computers, and wiping feces on Capitol walls and looking to kidnap, beat, and kill Congresspersons and Congressional staff.

+ Screamed “stop the steal” to falsely claim that Joe Biden’s election was fraudulent and to justify an attempted putsch meant to install their Dear Cult Leader Donald Trump as a de facto dictator.

+ Carried the Confederate Flag, symbol of Black chattel slavery and slaveholder secession, into the halls of Congress.

It was all very consistent with the prompting of the wannabe president-for-life and “instinctive fascist” Trump, who helped spark the riot by telling his supporters on January 6th to go down to the Capitol and “fight…fight like Hell. If you don’t fight like Hell,” Trump added, “you’re not going to have a country anymore.” At the same “Save America” rally before the Attack on the Capitol, Trump’s demented mob lawyer Rudy Giuliani told “Stop the Steal” protesters to engage in “trial by combat.”

On “Legitimate Political Discourse”

The GOP is trying to do what they do best….rewrite history….whitewash the ugly if you will.

Every Red State legislature is doing this on multiple fronts……from education to abortion to race and now the acts of treason…..

This LIE should be confronted on every level and at every turn….

The failed coup on 06 January was nothing noble it was affront to our very laws and the republic….this lie should not be allowed to continue.

But the fools that stormed the Capital we doing nothing…..the coup is taking place in plain sight…..with the help of the Supreme Court and the Senate….chamber….then SCOTUS…..a conservative body that is forcing their values on the rest of the nation.

The Senate does nothing to help the situation by being a no progress

Closing Thought–13Aug21

I have been watching our politics and the whole silly process for decades…..and in that time I have noticed just how prevalent lies and silliness the whole process has become.

Today the silliness has gone from true concern for the nation to a dialogue on issues that do not exist….all in all a waste of time and a policy of obstruction…..leading the way in this stupidity is the GOP…..

How can this be?

Political misinformation — whether “fake news,” conspiracy theories or outright lying — has often been attributed to widespread ignorance, even though there are numerous examples of 20th-century propaganda aimed at those most attentive to politics. Books like Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky’s “Manufacturing Consent” began to challenge that notion, as did the 1991 study of media coverage of the first Gulf War with the memorable bottom line, “the more you watch, the less you know.” In the age of social media, scholarly explanations have shifted to discussions of “motivated reasoning,” which could be defined by Paul Simon’s line from “The Boxer”: “A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.”

But the ignorance perspective has a deep hold on us because it appeals to the Enlightenment notion that we are motivated to pursue truth. We are “the thinking animal,” right? The important part of that expression may be “animal.” Human beings have an evolutionary history, and deception is commonplace in the animal world because it confers evolutionary advantage. There’s good reason to believe we’re not so different, other than the fact that humans are ultra-social creatures. In ancestral and evolutionary terms, being part of a successful social group was every bit as essential as food and water. So deception among humans evolved from group conflicts. That’s the thesis of a recent paper called “The Evolutionary Psychology of Conflict and the Functions of Falsehood” by the Danish political scientists Michael Bang Petersen and Mathias Osmundsen and American anthropologist John Tooby.

For some the “need for chaos” and the desire to watch the country “burn” are driving forces…..

Sadly NOTHING will change before I take a dirt nap…..and the country will be the victim of it’s own stupidity.

Do Americans Hate Each Other?

The Age of Aquarius is gone!

This is the age of division….especially here in the US….we have Americans at each other’s throats over stupid shit.

Think about this…..66% of Repubs in Southern states want to secede…..https://lobotero.com/2021/07/21/succeed-or-secede/

So now the question should be why do Americans truly hate each other?

An attempt to explain…..

As we approach the 50-year anniversary of George McGovern’s landslide defeat at the hands of Richard Nixon, America’s “cold civil war” shows no signs of letting up. If anything, it’s about to reach a boiling point. Between Donald Trump’s election, the near-nationwide riots last summer, the media’s grotesque gaslighting regarding the violent activities of antifa and Black Lives Matter, the events of Jan. 6, and a continuing belief across large sections of the American right that the presidential election was in some way stolen, things are not going well in the United States.

A short list of American civil sectors operating in a state of total inadequacy and on the verge of revolution-inspiring dysfunction would include health care, higher education, housing, job training, water (and agriculture), infrastructure, and public transit. In other words, nearly every service and institution on which the majority of citizens depends.

Without question, replacing Trump with President Joe Biden represents a restoration of America’s ancien régime, but for how long? Whether due to incompetence, a lack of strong leadership, or genuine political hurdles, the Biden administration will almost certainly enact only a small fraction of its purported agenda prior to next year’s midterm elections. Then there is the question of who exactly this agenda would actually benefit.

https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/putnam-lind-duncan-moench

Hatred and division are growing….resentment and loathing is becoming the norm….

Americans hating other Americans is NOT the way to heal a fractured nation.

As I stated….it keeps getting worse and worse….seems Americans care little for the nation that they Pledge Allegiance to in school….as with most oaths they mean nothing anymore.

Sadly this country will not heal in my lifetime….it all depends on the swing to nation and not the tribe.

But for now a survey showed that Americans are not at all thrilled with the direction of the country….

A majority — 55% — of the public say they are pessimistic about the direction of the country, a marked change from the roughly one-third (36%) that said the same in an ABC News/Ipsos poll published May 2. In the early May survey, Americans were more optimistic than pessimistic by a 28-percentage point margin. Optimism is now under water by 10 points. Looking ahead to the next 12 months, fewer than half — 45% — now report feeling optimistic about the way things are going, a significant drop from about two-thirds (64%) in the May poll.

Do We Need Religion?

The weekend and I thought maybe a little debate would be good for the soul….

Before we start…please this is a debate…..if you cannot logically and rationally state a case then move on…..

I read a piece in a journal entitle “Public Discourse”…..and I would like to hear opinions from my readers…..please read the article before going off on some mindless rant……

A great irony of the Jewish and Christian faith traditions: One must be willing to accept suffering and sacrifice for a greater purpose that transcends one’s particular material and sensual needs and desires. Counter-intuitively, it is these transcendent qualities of faith that eschew utilitarian aims for a greater purpose that create the circumstances for greater material well-being.

“Too much religion is bad for a country,” asserts Max Boot in a recent Washington Post op-ed. Boot cites a number of indicators—average GDP per capita, unemployment rates, poverty rates, homicide rates, life expectancy, infant mortality, education, and degree of political liberties—that suggest that “less religious nations are much better off.” Indeed, Australia, Sweden, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Japan, some of the least religious nations in the world, rank best in the aforementioned categories, while many of the most religious nations in the world (the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Thailand, India, Nigeria) are among the worst. America represents a unique case in this regard, being both wealthy and developed, but more religious than her Western counterparts. Would she be better off if her religious practice were to decline to levels found elsewhere in the developed world?

Would America Be Better Off without Religion?

Me?

I do not think it must be front and center of society…..it is a personal decision and should remain just that…..personal…..but I will say I do not think organized religion has done society any favors of the centuries from the past.

But here are a few things about religion and government….

The separation of church and state has come under scrutiny again this summer after the Supreme Court sided with religious conservatives in a series of rulings. One of the rulings allows states to fund religious schools indirectly, while another protects religious schools from federal employment discrimination lawsuits.

Americans have been debating where to draw the line between religion and government since the country’s founding. And even as the percentage of religiously unaffiliated Americans rises, church and state remain intertwined in many ways – often with the public’s support.

Here are eight facts about the connections between religion and government in the United States, based on previously published Pew Research Center analyses.

8 facts about religion and government in the United States

I believe it is time for true Christians to take back their religion from those extremists that only use it to further their agenda.

Right-wing extremists continue to promulgate falsehoods about religion in American society. Their claim that the United States was founded as a Christian nation is easily refuted by noting that the word “Christian” does not appear in any of the founding documents. The First Amendment unequivocally prohibits the government from the establishment of any state-endorsed religion. John Adams reaffirmed this succinctly in 1796 in the Treaty of Tripoli: “The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.”

Nonetheless, the fearmongers of Fox News and other right-wing propaganda outlets continue to peddle hate, suspicion and exhortations to violence to stand against the infamous, but nonexistent, “War on Christianity.” Christianity is dying in America as a result of the internal corruption, hypocrisy and deceit of those who claim to be the stalwarts protecting their faith.

And The Winner Will Be

As we draw ever close to the official start of the voting process…there are a few points that I wish to make…..

It is of little secret that I think the MSM is not a source for viable information only what the corporate overlords wants us to know……that is why we get mind numbing celeb news while the world is set for a blaze of epic proportions.

Then there is our elections when we decide who will represent us on the world stage….and the MSM has their finger on the scale there as well.

First it is their, the media, constant lie about the “electability ” of the candidate……more on that to save space……https://lobotero.com/2019/07/16/electability-the-lie-that-keeps-on-giving/

The MSM has convincing the country that Biden is the man to beat as far as the Dem races go…..they are predicting the winner before any of the primaries and caucuses have begun.

Biden’s electability rests on the assumption that Democrats will rally around whomever their party’s nominee is in their desperation to beat Trump, but only the former vice president is capable of winning over most independents and peeling enough Republicans away from Trump to ensure he loses reelection. If this sounds like the same type of pandering to white, middle-aged voters that centrist Democrats love to trot out every election to justify their insipid reformist policies, it is precisely that.

Let’s Stop Trying to Predict Who Can Beat Trump

Next is the DNC and the DCCC…..these political groups are doing all they can to appear democratic while deciding for the voter who their candidates will be….look at the next debate…..they made the rules to make damn sure centrists/corporatists are the majority of the party’s representatives…..and the move toward total control…..

This first became evident in March when DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos announced a “blacklist” policy, which sought to stifle the people-powered democratic process by requiring political consultants to sign a loyalty pledge to incumbent Democrats. Recent comments from black and Latino lawmakers about a lack of diversity in senior leadership, as well as complaints about a tone-deaf approach to issues relating to race, show that the DCCC continues to refuse to evolve and change. Instead, there seems to be an implicit policy of silencing new voices and sidelining historically marginalized communities in order to protect the power of the status quo.

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2019/08/16/dccc-out-step-democratic-values

The DNC/DCCC is out of step and the media is doing all they can to help these groups retain their influence over voters.

Personally, I have NEVER let another group pick my candidate for me…..neither should you…..especially when a loyalty pledge is required.  I refuse to allow a poll of 250 people tell me who to vote for….neither should you.

Democrats have excellent ideas….but they SUCK at the game of politics.

Micheal Moore see the final as I do……

Progressive filmmaker Michael Moore is predicting that the 2020 presidential election will result in Donald Trump winning a second term if Democrats nominate a “centrist, moderate” candidate, telling Democracy Now! that the president’s base is “more rabid” than in 2016 during a Thursday interview.

Moore, famous for films like Bowling for Columbine and, most recently, the Trump-focused documentary Fahrenheit 11/9, said the main “problem” Democrats are facing in 2020 is the fact that Trump’s voters have maintained their ardent support three years after he defeated Hillary Clinton.

The documentarian claimed that Trump would win “if the election were held today,” before noting that the electoral college system is the chief issue for Democrats: “Hillary won by 3 million popular votes. I believe whoever the Democrat is next year is going to win by 4 to 5 million popular votes. There’s no question in my mind that people who stayed home, who sat on the bench, they’re going to pour out … there’s going to be a much higher percentage of people voting against him.”

It Is 2008 Again

Back in the Dark Ages in political history books….the candidate for the Dems, Obama, called for a “national service” and in 2020 there is a call again…….I have not been silent on this topic…..

https://lobotero.com/2019/04/23/petes-national-service/

https://lobotero.com/2019/07/19/the-call-for-national-service-again/

https://lobotero.com/2019/08/21/national-service-again/

The divisions in this country are getting deeper….so deep that the country thinks a “civil war” is possible….

The survey also showed a majority of Americans believe that political, racial and class divisions are getting worse, including at least three-quarters of men and women and three-quarters of urban, suburban and rural voters. At least 70 percent of voters in all age groups, as well as white, black and Hispanic voters, feel the same.

The poll reflected lingering concerns from the same poll conducted in April, in which 90 percent of voters reported they were concerned about the “uncivil and rude behavior of politicians.”

https://thehill.com/homenews/news/467143-voters-believe-us-two-thirds-of-the-way-to-edge-of-a-civil-war-poll

I bring all this up again because there seems to be a movement starting that would like to see a civilian service corps of sorts…..

In the 2006 National Security Strategy, a key recommendation for “the way ahead” included “developing a civilian reserve corps, analogous to the military reserves.” This would give the US government the “skills and capacities needed for international disaster relief and post-conflict reconstruction.”

The government neither implemented this recommendation nor made a compelling enough argument for its necessity. However, considering our immediate and undeniable need for an improved national cybersecurity capability, the widening gap between the government and technology sector, the cost of losing mid-career experts to the private sector, and the resurgence of a strategic near-peer competitor, the time has come to update and revisit this concept.

There are two key arguments for such an organization. Foremost in consideration should be a focus on accessing highly skilled workers critical for the nation’s cybersecurity. As it stands, our government has a hard time attracting these professionals for fixed periods of service; computer science graduates with offers from Silicon Valley firms will almost never commit to five years in government positions where their highly desirable and lucrative degrees may not be effectively employed.

https://mwi.usma.edu/part-time-service-full-time-value-renewing-call-civilian-reserve-corps/

I have mixed emotions about this …..I understand the concept of making it a shared experience for the country that could help repair the divisions and splits that are plaguing the nation……on the other hand I also see the opposite that this could be more division in the making…..

Regardless it seems that this is just something to talk about on the campaign trail for beyond the primaries I have heard little on this subject.

Typical lie and promise…promise and lie.

I have written about this before and would still like to hear what my readers have to say about this situation….pro or con?

CPAC–2019

Yep it is that time of the year again….the annual CPAC meeting…the meeting of the conserv minds (not now but in the past….it was where big political ideas were hashed out)…….now it is a collection to dolts, buffoons, misogynists, bigots and total mental midgets…..in other words cheerleaders of the Trump presidency.

I have waited for some of my conserv friends to post on the meeting….so far any true conserv is avoiding this group of slugs at all costs.

I guess it will fall on me to give my analysis……I am a progressive, a radical in some eyes, so my analysis may be a bit skewed….

The “Big Ideas” this time around is abortions and creeping socialism……in other words those ideas from the 1980s and Reaganite ideas and policies…..this is the best mental midgets can do.

Plus where are the Big Idea conservatives?  Gone to podcasts everyone……most true conservs will not come to help justify the stupid that is the Trump policies…..conservs like Rick Wilson, Bill Kristol, Steve Schmidt, etc……people that still think in conserv ideas and not the manure that Trump and his enablers push…..

Opening day of CPAC gave us a step back into conserv history……

Starving people eating dog food. Parents aborting babies after taking them home from the hospital. That was the dark vision — of creeping socialism and of abortion unrestrained — that marked the opening day of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the annual gathering of conservatives that offers an untrammeled view of Republican perspectives, and a sign of where the party is headed politically. President Trump is expected to speak at the conference on Saturday morning.

https://news.yahoo.com/infanticide-and-socialism-mark-dark-tone-in-conservative-175854123.html

Reason.com has an op-ed that sums up what most true conservs are feeling about CPAC……..

This is what I’m thinking as I work up the courage to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), held annually just outside of Washington, D.C. The event, sponsored by the American Conservative Union, officially started today and thousands of conservatives are out in force. CPAC started in 1974 and there was a time in the Aughts when it routinely reached out to libertarians and even groups such as the ACLU. Over the years, Reason people, including myself, have spoken on panels there. But that was then and this is…a weird political moment where the Republican president is chumming it up with a North Korean dictator while his former personal lawyer and fixer is testifying about his boss’s alleged high crimes and misdemeanors before Congress. And the House is rejecting the president’s emergency declaration about a Southern border crisis. These are not normal times, so is there any reason to expect CPAC to be an island of normalcy? Probably not, especially given some relatively recent highlights of the conference.

https://reason.com/blog/2019/02/28/is-cpac-still-whack

As a progressive I like a good debate with my conserv opponents and friends….but what the GOP has now is NOTHING like the conservatism that many were proud to embrace……now all they have is hate, bigotry and falsehoods…..

I hope the conservs can reclaim their mantle for I miss them in the public discourse….but they cannot do it with the collection of slugs at this year’s CPAC….look at the agenda and the people that are talking……SLUGS!

http://cpac.conservative.org/agenda/

Our Beloved Supreme Leader had his day in the sun of CPAC…..his speech was a rehash of the 2016 election, the size of his inauguration crowd and finally he said that anyone that does not kiss his flabby ass hates America.

Two hours of rambling, babbling lies and bullsh*t (his word not mine)……was boring with NOTHING new…not even the use of bullsh*t was new……He gave yawns instead of ideas…..

President Donald Trump told an appreciative audience of conservatives Saturday that he will win re-election in 2020 and by a bigger margin than his 2016 victory, the AP reports. He mocked Democrats for their framework to combat climate change and said House lawmakers pushing to expand their investigations of him are “sick.” In a wide-ranging speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Trump rehashed his outsider campaign that overcame long odds and a crowded field of established politicians to claim the White House over Democrat Hillary Clinton. When he made his prediction of a second term, the crowd responded with chants of “USA, USA, USA.” Trump praised the conservative movement, saying “Our movement and our future in our country is unlimited.”

As he looked back to 2016, the president described himself as “probably more of a conservative than a Republican,” but says people just didn’t understand that. Trump also called the Mueller probe “this phony thing” and took aim at the Democrats’ Green New Deal, a policy proposal floated by some liberal Democrats in Congress and backed to varying degrees by several of the party’s 2020 presidential candidates. “I think the New Green Deal or whatever the hell they call it—the Green New Deal—I encourage it,” he said before mocking the notion of a world with “no planes, no energy.” The Democratic plan calls for a drastic drop in greenhouse-gas emissions from fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas, but in no way grounds airplanes or pivots the country to renewable energy only.

All in all CPAC has become an enabler of a worthless ineffective president…..the GOP is truly lost and as some have said…it is dead…..

Appearing on MSNBC with host Alex Witt, GOP strategist Rick Tyler was visibly upset at what he heard from Donald Trump during his speech at CPAC, and even more so by the enthusiastic reception the president was receiving.

Asked by host Witt, “What can be done to resurrect the Republican Party as it was — or is that gone?” Tyler said the party is dead.

“Rest in peace,” he lamented. “No, it’s over. The problem is that the Republican Party has no grounding governing philosophy anymore because they’ve signed on to all these things as I just mentioned that were antithetical to the conservative movement.”

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/03/gop-strategist-stunned-reception-trumps-unhinged-cpac-speech-republican-party-dead/amp/

DEAD…Dead…dead!

All in all CPAC is degrading to the conservs, degrading to American politics, degrading to the office of president and finally degrading to the sense of good taste…..

That Leadership Question

AS the 2018 Midterms are looming large and the 2020 presidential election is only two short years away…..the question of leadership from our elected officials should be a paramount question that needs a definitive answer.

I tried to touch on this question recently with a post here on IST……https://lobotero.com/2018/08/29/what-does-it-take-to-be-a-good-leader/

This country desperately needs a good leader….in my opinion we have not had such for at least 50 years…we have had popular leaders but that does not mean they were good leaders.

Leadership is a difficult quality to obtain and there are fallacies that come with the title of “Good Leader”……

Six Leadership Fallacies

1. Burton Brender

One of the hardest things a leader will ever have to do is accurately assess the performance and potential of his or her workers.  Often, leaders have so much on their plate that really observing their people is a challenge, and it doesn’t help that there are false signals out there that can fool even the wisest of supervisors.  These fallacies can make people who are less competent, and less scrupulous, appear better than they are.  To be on guard against them, leaders must constantly assess themselves when meting out rewards, promotions, and punishment.  Falling for a leadership fallacy can see the wrong person advanced and drive the right people away.

(Please read on about the fallacies)

http://smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art/six-leadership-fallacies

There are many qualities that a “Good Leader” must have if they are to be successful….again let me emphasize that good does not necessarily mean popular.
