My next door neighbor, I live in Mississippi, is trying to criminalize librarians….Alabama has a law in consideration that would do just that…..

The Alabama Library Association and other critics on Wednesday called out the state’s Republican policymakers for pushing a new bill that opponents warn will unfairly jail librarians and have a chilling impact on collections.

House Bill 385, introduced Tuesday by state Rep. Arnold Mooney (R-43) and 30 other legislators, says that “under existing law, certain obscenity laws do not apply to public libraries, public school libraries, college libraries, or university libraries, or the employees or agents of any such libraries.”

“This bill would provide that these criminal obscenity laws do not apply to college or university libraries or their employees or agents, but do apply to public libraries, public school libraries, and their employees or agents,” the legislation continues.

H.B. 385 would also add the following language to the definition of sexual conduct: “Any sexual or gender-oriented material that knowingly exposes minors to persons who are dressed in sexually revealing, exaggerated, or provocative clothing or costumes, or are stripping, or engaged in lewd or lascivious dancing, presentations, or activities in K-12 public schools, public libraries, and other public places where minors are expected and are known to be present without parental consent.”

So sad that politicians are turning schools and libraries into political battlefields….when they should be more concerned with educating their citizens and not hindering the teachers and librarians.

It is a pathetic day when the destruction of schools take the lead in state politics.

This is a horrifying report out of the state of Alabama…..

The bodies of two men who died while incarcerated in Alabama’s prison system were missing their hearts or other organs when returned to their families, a federal lawsuit alleges. The family of Brandon Clay Dotson, who died in a state prison in November, filed a federal lawsuit last month against the Alabama Department of Corrections and others, saying his body was decomposing and his heart was missing when his remains were returned to his family, the AP reports. In a court filing in the case last week, the daughter of Charles Edward Singleton, another deceased inmate, said her father’s body was missing all of his internal organs when it was returned in 2021.

Lauren Faraino, an attorney representing Dotson’s family, said Wednesday that the experience of multiple families shows this is “absolutely part of a pattern.” Dotson, 43, was found dead on Nov. 16 at Ventress Correctional Facility. His family, suspecting foul play was involved in his death, hired a pathologist to do a second autopsy and discovered his heart was missing, according to the lawsuit. His family filed a lawsuit seeking to find out why his heart was removed and to have it returned to them.

“Defendants’ outrageous and inexcusable mishandling of the deceased’s body amounts to a reprehensible violation of human dignity and common decency,” the lawsuit states, adding that “their appalling misconduct is nothing short of grave robbery and mutilation.” Dotson’s family, while seeking information about what happened to his heart, discovered that other families had similar experiences, Faraino said. The situation involving Singleton’s body is mentioned in court documents filed by Dotson’s family last week. In the documents, the inmate’s daughter Charlene Drake writes that a funeral home told her that her father’s body was brought to it “with no internal organs” after his death while incarcerated in 2021.

Is the state harvesting human organs for profit?  Or is it that some ghoul in the prison system is getting rich desecrating bodies for profit?

This is just sick and more attention should be paid by everyone.

I get a chuckle out of the silliness that state representatives will go to to keep from addressing the problems within its borders……this one is from Alabama…..

It seems that these guys are afraid of yoga…..why?

They think it will help spread Hinduism in the state.

Seriously!

Legislation that would have allowed yoga to be taught in Alabama public schools died in committee Wednesday, stalling a years-long battle by one state legislator to bring the practice back.

Bill AL HB246 was put forth by Alabama State Rep. Jeremy Gray, who wrote that bringing yoga back to school would be voluntary. It sought to overturn a ban on the practice in Alabama schools in place since 1993.

Lawmakers in Alabama’s state Senate voted on the proposal and decided against it, effectively endorsing the existing ban. Gray can attempt to pass the measure again later, but it is a significant setback.

Another Can’t Fix Stupid

It is Sunday and I am always amazed just how stupid Americans are about history….especially those that want to help rule the country….

I am referring to the Senator-elect from Alabama, Tommy Tuberville.

This is his reason for the US fighting in World War 2……

“It’s concerning to me that a guy can run for president of the United States and have an opportunity to win when he leans more to a socialist type of government, you know, one-payer system in health care, raise taxes 20 percent, when the other half the country is basically voting for freedom, let us control our own lives, stay out of our life,” said Tuberville, a former college football coach. “You know, as I tell people, my dad fought 76 years ago in Europe to free Europe of socialism.”

Think about that for a moment…..

Did you spot the stupid in that statement?

In case you are confused…..

In World War II, the United States was fighting against the Axis powers, which were mostly right-wing fascist governments. In fact, Americans fought alongside the socialist USSR as allies.

I guess he took too many hits to the head….or maybe his bad knees go all the way to his head…..either way….

Session Will Try Again

We had Sen. Session from Alabama and then we had Jeff Sessions attorney general of the US….then we had a Session sent home to Alabama by Trump….and now we may see Session trying to recapture his legacy by running for the Senate from Alabama….AGAIN.

Sessions left DC because he was on the Trump “Sh*t List”…..and apparently he remains on that list even to this day……

Jeff Sessions is going to take a shot at resuming the Senate career he abandoned for an ill-fated stint in the Trump administration, insiders say. Sources tell the New York Times and NPR that the Republican, who served in the Senate for 20 years before becoming President Trump’s attorney general for 21 months, plans to file paperwork for a Senate run in Alabama before the Friday deadline. Sessions, who was forced out of the administration, repeatedly clashed with the president after recusing himself from the Russia investigation. A source tells the Times that after recent reports that Sessions was planning a comeback, Trump warned Sessions through allies that he would publicly attack him if he decided to run.

In the March 3 Republican primary, Sessions will compete against a crowded GOP field that includes Roy Moore, who lost the 2017 special election to replace Sessions after sexual misconduct allegations surfaced. Rep. Bradley Byrne, Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill, former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville, and state Rep. Arnold Mooney are also vying to unseat Democratic Sen. Doug Jones. One of NPR’s sources says Sessions, who will appear on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show Thursday night, is “definitely acting alone,” without the support of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell or the Senate Republican campaign operation.

Maybe someone should explain the concept of State’s Rights to our president for he apparently missed that class during his’ extensive’ education……or maybe they do not teach Civics where he went to school.

It will be up to the people of Alabama to decide who will represent them in DC…..Trump has little to say about it.

I have little use for Sessions and his policies but the people of Alabama will have to decide….will they be lead by the nose or will they act independently?

My guess is their knee pads await.

Alabama has joined the list of states that will punish sex offenders they will be forced to undergo chemical castration……

Males convicted of a sex offense against a child under the age of 13 in Alabama will be forced to undergo chemical castration in the month before they’re released from custody. Republican Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday signed into law the bill passed by the state legislature on May 30, which forces offenders to pay out of pocket for chemical castration via oral medication or injection, which interferes with the production of testosterone, unless a court decides an offender is unable to pay, per CNN. The effects—an inability to perform sexual acts and limited sexual interest—are reversed once treatment stops, but it’ll be up to a court to determine when this might happen. Any offenders who stop treatment on their own will be found in violation of parole and returned to custody.

“This bill is a step toward protecting children in Alabama,” Ivey said, per CNN. Randall Marshall of the ALCU of Alabama instead believes the law may be a form of cruel and unusual punishment. “It’s not clear that this actually has any effect and whether it’s even medically proven,” and “when the state starts experimenting on people, I think it runs afoul of the Constitution,” he tells AL.com. The bill’s author, GOP Rep. Steve Hurst, who initially called for surgical castration, counters that many victims of sexual abuse support the law, which follows similar ones on the books in seven states and Guam, per NBC News. GOP Sen. Cam Ward adds it will likely apply only to a small group of offenders as most people convicted in such cases are not considered for parole.

I am sorry but this does not “protect children” as promised by the governor…..in my opinion.

The urges are still there and though he may not have the “junk” to carry out his urges he will find other means of satisfying those urges…..use objects like bottles to “get off”.

I do not have the answers to this problem….but I just do not believe this will not solve the problem no matter the promises.

As we approach another election the Right has pulled out attacks from the 1950s…..socialism…..then there are the mental midgets like Rep. Mo Brooks from Alabama (I expect this kind of stupid from a politico from Alabama)…..Brooks wants to link Dems to Nazis…..

Politico is pointing out that the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, aka the Nazi Party, “was fascist, not socialist—the opposite end of the political universe from socialists” following what it calls an “inane debate” among members of Congress. It began Monday as Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks accused “socialist Democrats and their fake news media allies” of perpetuating the “biggest political lie” in regard to accusations of collusion between President Trump’s campaign and Russia. Standing on the House floor, he went on to read a passage from Mein Kampf, referring to Adolf Hitler as “another socialist who mastered ‘big lie’ propaganda to maximum, and deadly, effect.” Per CNN, his emphasis of “socialist” seemed intended to link Democrats and Nazis, though the two are “not comparable.”

GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas continued the thread Tuesday during a Judiciary Committee hearing, saying he feared a corrupt Justice Department could usher in a future authoritarian leader. All that’s needed is “another socialist like Hitler to come along” and “we could lose everything,” he said. “As a Jewish person … I get offended when you compare socialists to Nazis,” responded Rep. Steve Cohen, a Democrat from Tennessee. “It’s what they were,” Gohmert countered before Chairman Jerry Nadler weighed in. “It’s hard to listen to historical revisionism or perhaps ignorance about the Nazis,” who were at the “extreme right of the political spectrum,” said the New York Democrat. Cohen wasn’t done. “The logical connection in their messaging is to say that socialists were for the Holocaust,” he said. That’s “abominable and scary.” (Brooks also links rising sea levels to erosion.)

Sunday before the day every child looks forward to….Christmas….and I do not post much on religion or religious stuff but from time to time I read something that makes me want to post something and this Sunday is NO different…..

A little news……my granddaughter made me proud…..she became 2nd chair flute in the concert band…..sadly she is so busy these days that our gaming has suffered…..but that aside I am truly proud of her accomplishment.

Then there is MoMo…..she was up most of the nite arguing with a opossum….

She has this thing about this snake…..it just pisses her off…..

Enough of the “homey” stuff…..let’s get to the post shall we?

It seems that rural Alabama is having an increase in crime and a usual “suspect” has been identified……

Taking a page (or several) from the Old Testament, a police department in rural Alabama is blaming an increase in local discord—namely five homicides this year—on the community’s rejection of God, the Hill reports. In a Tuesday Facebook post (since deleted), the Opp Police Department wrote in all-caps, per the AP: “THESE MURDERS HAVE BEEN DONE BY OUR YOUNG PEOPLE. THIS IS HAPPENING BECAUSE WE HAVE TURNED AWAY FROM GOD AND EMBRACED SATAN. WE MAY HAVE NOT MEANT TO DO SO BUT, WE HAVE. IT IS TIME TO ASK FOR GOD’S HELP TO STOP THIS.” The post, which you can see here, goes on to chastise parents and imply that the community does not support police, ending with: “BOTTOM LINE, THERE ARE SHEEP; THERE ARE WOLVES AND THERE ARE SHEEP DOGS. WHICH GROUP DO YOU BELONG TO?”

Some people on social media are having some fun with the whole thing. A Thursday post by the department warning of wet roads garnered comments like, “Satan’s fault.” On an earlier post about an approaching storm, a person commented, “Cloudy, with a higher than average chance of brimstone.” But the group Freedom From Religion says that the police department’s post isn’t funny at all. “The department has very directly endorsed one religious ideology to the exclusion of minority religions and atheism, and decried Satanism. Neither message is permissible,” Sam Grover, a lawyer for the group, says in a statement. (Satan made an appearance at the Illinois statehouse.)

Sounds like a cop out by the authorities…..it is an easy answer to a situation…..

These crimes are created by “Man” (generic not gender)……Period.

But I am sure that some will disagree with me…..and that is why I live in America.

What Happened To The Accusers?

For a couple of months the big story has been the sexual exploits of popular and famous people.  It even invaded the senatorial election in Alabama….one Roy Moore.

Mr Moore is a religious zealot that got thrown off the Alabama Supreme Court because he would not follow federal law.  It seems that a woman has come forward and told the world that he was a pervert…..

I am sure that most everyone knows the story…..The Right wing defended Moore…well he lost and most Right wing blogs puke up the same reports….now it is they are asking what happened to these accusers…..

There is an answer for the babbling buffoons…..

One of the women to have accused Roy Moore of sexual misconduct saw her home burn down this week in a fire authorities are investigating as arson, AL.com reports. “I am devastated, just devastated,” Tina Johnson says. “We have just the clothes on our backs.” The fire started at Johnson’s home in Gadsden, Alabama, on Wednesday morning while she and her husband were at work and their grandson was at school. Neighbors and utility workers called 911, but the fire department was unable to extinguish the flames before Johnson’s home and possessions were destroyed. Her family is currently living out of a motel.

The sheriff’s department says it has spoken to a “suspect of interest” and doesn’t “believe that the fire is in any way related to Roy Moore or allegations made against him.” Instead, Johnson says neighbors saw a man with a history of public intoxication walking around her house prior to and during the fire. “He’s been trouble in the neighborhood for a while,” one neighbor says. In November, Johnson joined a number of women in leveling sexual misconduct allegations against Moore, who was running for US Senate. She said he groped her and made inappropriate comments when she visited his office in 1991, the Washington Post reports. He was married at the time. “I was so humiliated and sickened,” NBC News quotes Johnson as saying of the incident. (Another Moore accuser sued the failed Senate candidate for defamation this week.)

Interesting right?

I post this for all my Right wing brethren that say that once the election was over so was the star quality of the story…..the accusers are still there it is just that they are NO longer headline material for the MSM….

The Republic Survives! (Sarcasm)

By now the news of the defeat of the ‘Bama pedophile has been making every show on 24 hour news networks…..but in case you could care less….a short synopsis…….

It’s Doug Jones. The Democrat won election to the Senate from Alabama on Tuesday, dealing a political blow to President Trump, reports the AP. Jones narrowly defeated Republican Roy Moore, a one-time GOP pariah who was embraced by the Republican Party and the president even after facing allegations of sexual impropriety. An attorney and former prosecutor, Jones rallied voters on a message of moving past the Moore controversies. He was buoyed by an influx of national Democratic cash and endorsements.

Jones’ victory is set to narrow the slim Republican majority over Democrats in the Senate to 51-49. His win in the Republican stronghold energizes the Democratic Party as it looks to build on anti-Trump sentiment to mount a challenge next year to Republican control of Congress. With 92% of votes counted, Jones had 49.5% of the vote to Moore’s 48.8%, per CNN, which also called the race for Jones.

What does this mean?

It means that the GOP had a deeply flawed candidate.  It does not mean much more than that.  The networks would have us all believing that there is a ground swell for Dems…..I just do not see it.

But I see what the Dems are doing….they are setting the stage for 2018….they are putting out as much positive spin as possible over this election.  I understand why they are making more of this than there is…….

Jones needs to go and kiss every black person he meets for without them he would be shoveling Sassy’s crap.

Now on to 2018……and we will see just how big this vote was in reality.
