Closing Thought–04Dec20

Let’s talk about HHS…Department of Health and Human Services….it is in control of Social Security, Medicare, etc…..first the good news…..

The idiot in charge of the Trumpian HHS, Atlas, has resigned…..

A special adviser to President Trump on the pandemic, who had been criticized for his views on stopping the spread of the coronavirus, resigned Monday. Dr. Scott Atlas, who is not an infectious disease expert, got the job in August after Trump saw his appearances on Fox News, the Hill reports. During his brief tenure, Atlas told the people of Michigan they should “rise up” against coronavirus restrictions, criticized restrictions on Russian state television, and posted on Twitter that face masks don’t work—a tweet that was blocked. In his resignation letter, per Fox, he told Trump, “As time went on, like all scientists and health policy scholars, I learned new information and synthesized the latest data from around the world, all in an effort to provide you with the best information to serve the greater public good.”

As a special government employee, Atlas was hired for a 130-day tenure that would have ended this week. He made his resignation effective Tuesday. The neuroradiologist had butted heads with White House Coronavirus Task Force members, including Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx, per the AP. Before the holiday, per NBC, he suggested Americans enjoy Thanksgiving in large groups because it might be the last one for some people. Atlas’ other employer, Stanford University, at one point issued a statement disavowing his positions. Atlas “has expressed views that are inconsistent with the university’s approach in response to the pandemic,” Stanford said, while confirming that it supports “using masks, social distancing, and conducting surveillance and diagnostic testing.”

Good riddance!

Now the bad news….HHS has won the Golden Horseshoe Award for pissing away taxpayer cash…..

The Golden Horseshoe is a weekly designation from Just the News intended to highlight egregious examples of wasteful taxpayer spending by the government. The award is named for the horseshoe-shaped toilet seats for military airplanes that cost the Pentagon a whopping $640 each back in the 1980s.

This week, our award goes to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for spending $106.7 billion on improper payments during 2019.

Improper payments are defined under federal law as “payments made by the government to the wrong person, in the wrong amount, or for the wrong reason.”

This award use to be named the “Golden Fleece Award”….why cannot the taxpayer recovery the cash that idiot piss away?

Time to re-write the rules for proper execution of governmental programs….

A pipe dream on my part I know….but it feels good to rant.

Those First 100 Days

Ever since I can remember every new president has always used the guide post of the “First 100 Days” as some sort of challenge they must meet.

And as I think about it I cannot remember any of them actually succeeding in their promises for those first days.

I am sure that the Biden/Harris team will be NO different…..but let’s look at what the Center for American Progress has called for in those first 100 days….

Read the entire plan for yourself…..

There are a few parts that I do not see going anywhere…..partnering with Congress….the Senate is out of the question…..

I do not see the endless wars ever ending under the Biden administration…..too many M-IC influencers in his cabinet…..

Good ideas…but they will fall way short of success….

Why am I so pessimistic?

Biden’s actual mandate begins with the fact that most of the people who voted for him were primarily voting not for him but against Donald Trump. This is because Trump is the only candidate of the two who ran on an actual belief-based agenda: a weird mixture of narcissism, white supremacy, corporate interests and God knows what. This agenda was rejected. The people energizing the Biden campaign were the same people who have taken to the streets throughout 2020, demanding justice, sanity, and a dismantling — at last — of the country’s racist infrastructure.

Yes, there’s powerful opposition to this. The Republicans want to keep the racism but dismantle democracy itself, and in the process make sure Trump remains in the White House. This is all the more reason why Biden and the Democrats should put principles first and rally the nation around a serious vision: an agenda not simply to “restore the soul of America” but to expand that soul, make this country a true global leader as Planet Earth faces its treacherous future.

One thing that I would point to as the only thing that will possibly help this country during those 100 days…..

ven when he becomes president in January, Joe Biden won’t have the authority to order Americans to wear masks. But he will make it a request on Day One, the Hill reports. “Just 100 days to mask, not forever,” Biden said Thursday. “100 days.” Biden made the comments in a CNN interview. He said he will issue a mask mandate for places where the president has authority to do so, such as in federal buildings and in interstate transportation, including airplanes and buses. The president-elect has been an advocate of wearing a face mask to slow the spread of the coronavirus throughout the pandemic, and he’s been mocked by President Trump for it.

Biden said he thinks that if more people wear masks as the first round of vaccinations takes place, the combination will “drive down the numbers considerably,” per the BBC. And he and Vice President Kamala Harris will set an example by masking up, he said. Biden has asked Americans to get past the politics of masks and other pandemic restrictions. “It’s time to end the politicization of basic, responsible public health steps like mask wearing and social distancing,” he said last month. “A mask is not a political statement, but it is a good way to start pulling the country together.”

Carte Blanche Spending

Ever notice that the GOP is only concerned about spending when the Dems are in the White House?

Since Trump took office in 2017 the GOP in Congress has given him carte blanche on spending with seldom a challenge.

Ever since he took office I have been saying that the GOP would back to the days of their biggest stupidity….deficit hawks.

I have written about this idiocracy in the past……

In January 2021 the new president will take office and the gutless GOP will once again start their constant whining about federal spending……

Republicans are preparing to re-embrace their inner deficit hawk after greenlighting big spending bills under President Trump

GOP senators say they expect to refocus on curbing the nation’s debt and reforming entitlement programs starting in 2021, as the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the debt has surpassed the size of the American economy.

“I think that’s kind of getting back to our DNA. …I think spending, entitlement reform, growth and the economy are all things that we’re going to have to be focused on next year and, yeah, I would expect you’ll hear a lot more about that,” said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), the No. 2 Senate Republican.

he shift could pose a significant headache for a new Biden administration that will need GOP support in the Senate to move its agenda. It is also likely to complicate efforts on a debt-ceiling deal.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is poised to become the chairman of the Budget Committee if Republicans keep the Senate. He said he wants to create a new commission to propose ways to reduce the deficit and address the country’s debt.

“I think we’ve got to understand that we’re going to be raising the debt ceiling in perpetuity if we don’t find a way to bend the curve,” Graham said.

Of course they will return to their stupidity.

It is all they have is opposition…..for they have NO plan to move this country forward.

I told you to watch for this…..and here it is……
