Closing Thought–09Oct17

Hubris Thy name Is Trump!

I mean we all take credit every now and then for something that may not be all that original to ourselves….we all have an ego that needs massaging from time to time….

But our president has out done even the infamous Tennis great McEnroe…….

President Trump defended his throwing of paper towels to Puerto Rican hurricane victims in a weekend interview on a Christian network—and claimed to have invented the term “fake.” The towel-throwing, which San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz described as “terrible and abominable,” was simply a bit of fun with the crowd at a distribution center, Trump told Mike Huckabee on Trinity Broadcasting. “They had these beautiful, soft towels. Very good towels,” Trump said, per NBC News. The crowd was “loving everything. I was having fun, they were having fun,” he said. “They said, ‘Throw ’em to me! Throw ’em to me, Mr. President!” Trump accused Cruz of “doing a very poor job” with her hurricane response.

Trump went on to boast about the term “fake.” “I think one of the greatest of all terms I’ve come up with is ‘fake,'” he said. “I guess other people have used it, perhaps, over the years, but I’ve never noticed it.” It wasn’t entirely clear whether he was taking credit for “fake” or “fake news,” but he would be wrong in either case, according to CNN, which Trump often accuses of creating “fake news.” The word “fake” has been around for 200 years, while the term “fake news” started appearing in newspapers in the late 19th century. On Sunday, Trump tweeted that nobody could have done what he did in Puerto Rico “with so little appreciation.” He also shared a video of hurricane relief efforts “that the fake news media won’t show you.”

Daily I am amazed at the lengths this person will go to pat themselves on the back……Trump is setting a whole new bar for the term….HUBRIS!

No matter what you think of his politics you must admire a person that will die for their convictions…..

Hopefully you went away from this post knowing more than you did when you began….

If so then….that is why I am here.

We He Go Or Will He Stay?

We have had a couple of days of high drama…..did Tillerson call Trump a moron or not?

Well we still do not know for after his, Tillerson, speech he never clarified that one point….he worked hard to say everything that the president wants to hear……and it worked for now….for Trump has come out patting Tillerson on the back and saying what a fine American he is.

Tillerson has contradicted Trump on many occasions and yet he still retains his job….does not sound like a Trump deal now does it?

Truth be told I was not a fan of Tillerson after his nomination….I thought he was a poor choice to run one of the most important cabinet posts…..he brought nothing in way of experience to the job.

How much longer can Tillerson sing the Trump tune….especially on the handling of North Korea?

Rex Tillerson could be the worst of the 69 secretaries of state in the history of the republic, but he did not deserve the drubbing he took Sunday from his boss.

Moreover, Washington’s efforts to disarm North Korea were not served by the public humiliation of America’s chief diplomat over the weekend.

“I told Rex Tillerson, our wonderful Secretary of State, that he is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Little Rocket Man,” President Trump tweeted Sunday morning. Then came the second blast “Save your energy Rex, we’ll do what has to be done!”

It was bad enough that Trump blasted “Rex” in public, but to compound the sin, the president did so while Tillerson was in Beijing, talking to the Chinese about disarming North Korea. China insists, as a price of its enforcement of sanctions, that America try to negotiate with Pyongyang. Trump’s words, therefore, undercut efforts to get Beijing to cut off the flow of cash to the stocky Kim Jong-un, also now known, thanks to Trump’s previous insults, as “Little Rocket Man.”

This last thing, the “moron” comment, has this growing rift between Tillerson and the president……can this thing be handled so that Tillerson keeps his job?

The American Conservative has taken a closer  look at this situation…..

Despite Tillerson’s denials yesterday and Trump’s denials today, the rift between him and the president is impossible to ignore. The Postreports:

For months now, Trump has been piqued by rumors of disloyalty that have filtered up to him from Foggy Bottom, the home of the State Department. In private meetings, the president has also been irked by Tillerson’s arguments for a more-traditional approach on policies, from Iran to climate change to North Korea, and by Tillerson’s visible frustration when overruled. Trump has chafed at what he sees as arrogance on the part of an employee.

And as Tillerson has traveled the globe, Trump believes his top diplomat often seems more concerned with what the world thinks of the United States than with tending to the president’s personal image [bold mine-DL].

If Trump thinks the Secretary of State’s job is to burnish the president’s personal reputation instead of promoting the interests of the U.S. (and I have no difficulty believing he thinks that), it is little wonder that he and Tillerson are such a poor fit. Tillerson may already be widely regarded as one of the worst Secretaries of State in modern times, but even he seems to understand that boosting Trump’s personal image isn’t part of his job. Even if it were part of his job, Trump would make it impossible for him to do that because he is constantly gainsaying Tillerson in public. The president chose Tillerson for the position, but can’t keep himself from second-guessing and contradicting his own appointee and thus guaranteeing his irrelevance in the eyes of other governments.

This situation is just silly…..Tillerson is gone it is just a matter of optics when.

Right now Trump has lost so many high placed advisers that he needs to kick back and wait for a better time….he will continue to feel up his base and when they come on-line with Tillerson leaving….then he will be gone like a dirty shirt.

My guess is, unless something changes, buy January 2018.

What Is He Thinking?

Nate has left town!  Like all good windbags he is headed toward DC……now onto the news of the new week…..

To answer the question……He is not!

This week will tell the tale….will our president be so stupid as to “decertify” the Iranian nuke deal?

Word is President Trump will “decertify” the Iran nuclear deal next week, giving Congress 60 days to decide whether to stay in the agreement or void it by imposing new sanctions on Iran. Citing “people briefed” on the matter, the Washington Post reports Trump is expected to deliver a speech, possibly on Oct. 12, laying out his administration’s new Iranian policy. CNN, whose sources include “two senior US officials,” reports that policy would be to work within the framework of the nuclear deal, which limits Iran’s nuclear activities, while attempting to strengthen it for the US. But Iran has said it’s not interested in renegotiating the deal, and European leaders say they don’t want to change the terms of the deal.

Germany, France, Britain, Russia, China, Iran, and even the US all agree Iran has held up its side of the nuclear deal. And on Tuesday Defense Secretary James Mattis said he believes it’s “in our national security interest” to remain in the deal. But Trump campaigned on the nuclear deal being unfair to the US. The president is said to be weary of a tenet of the deal wherein he must go to Congress every 90 days to report whether Iran is complying with it and if it remains in the national interest of the US.

I think that this will be a bonehead move……first, I would bet that he has NO idea what is said in the deal….but yet he is trapp[ed by his political rhetoric during the campaign and now if he wants to retain his base support he feels he must do something.

Let me help you understand the deal and then you will be one ahead of the guy called “president”….plus it is not that difficult…..Negotiators reached a historic accord last summer to limit Tehran’s nuclear ability in return for lifting international oil and financial sanctions. Here is a guide to the Iran nuclear deal.

I told you it was not that difficult.

People everywhere are masking the case for the Iranian nuke deal……

Wake up. We are sleepwalking into an armed conflict. The hidden scandal of the Iraq War — the manipulation of intelligence to support a predetermined outcome — is now an overt political strategy to undermine a multilateral nonproliferation agreement. At a time when Iran was hurtling toward a nuclear threshold not easily undone by force or persuasion, the United States struck an accord with allies and adversaries alike that averted the solution everyone feared most — the kinetic option.

Now, those most vocal prior to the deal about the imminent threat of a nuclear Iran want to scrap the deal, put the world back on the brink of conflict, and open up a second nuclear front.

There is so much wrong with this idea of not certifying the deal and yet with all data available they are still playing a dangerous game……why?

The US has a major problem with the situation in North Korea….the nukes, the missiles, and the rhetoric…..and then Trump pulls out of this deal with Iran then he as doubled the nuke problem overnight

Trump is choosing a multi-front nuclear stand-off……he could be choosing a war over something as stupid as his political rhetoric.

To add fuel to the fire….trump offers up some cryptic statement at a dinner for military leaders…..

President Trump made an ominous remark after meeting with his top military commanders—and declined to explain what he was talking about. “You guys know what this represents?” Trump told reporters as he posed for a photo with First Lady Melania Trump, military officials, and their spouses before a White House dinner Thursday night. “Maybe it’s the calm before the storm.” When asked to clarify the remark, Trump said “we have the world’s great military people” present, CBS reports. Asked again what the “storm” might be, Trump said: “You’ll find out” and ended the questioning.

Trump may have been talking about Iran: Earlier Thursday, sources said Trump plans to “decertify” Iran’s compliance with the nuclear deal, which is due for recertification by Oct. 15. “The Iranian regime supports terrorism and exports violence and chaos across the Middle East,” Trump said at the meeting with military leaders, per the Guardian. “That is why we must put an end to Iran’s continued aggression and nuclear ambitions.” There has also been speculation that Trump was referring to action against ISIS or North Korea, reports the BBC.

Great timing!  The weekend was spent in wild speculation by the MSM….something the media excels at….wild speculation.

But with this guy named Trump….we will not know for sure what what will come out of his mouth until it comes out of his mouth.
