Another Good Christian?

We seldom hear about some”minor” digressions from our Christian brethren…..we only get a look at their lives when they are a “biggie” that has fallen…..

I read an article about a church in Ohio…..it seems that a youth minister raped a teen age girl……

An Ohio judge sentenced a “delusional” former youth pastor to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a teenage member of the church where he served as a volunteer.

Brian Mitchell pleaded guilty Thursday to four counts of sexual battery, and a Cuyahoga County judge rejected his attorney’s recommendation for house arrest but did not impose the maximum 20-year prison term, reported the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The 31-year-old Mitchell, a father of three children under age 8, began sending text messages to the victim, then 16 years old, that quickly turned to complaints about his marriage.

A perv is in prison….but what the church did is beyond sanity……

Church leaders spoke to Mitchell the day after learning of the sex abuse in November and then reported the case to police.

The girl’s mother testified during the sentencing hearing that church leaders also told the family not to come back to church until her daughter had apologized to Mitchell’s wife.

So the victim needs to apologize to the rapist wife?  Seriously?  Someone please explain that to me.

Since this was a Baptist “youth” minister should we blame all Baptists for this behavior?  Or for that matter all Christians?

  1. Some of the first encounters with hands on my leg against my will were courtesy of some preachers when I was a lot younger man searching for the truth. Yes, Christians are capable of raising Hell just like everybody else but you have to catch them at it. I have always said, “When you see some person who claims to be a Christian coming in your direction with that overly-broad toothy grin on their face, their hands outstretched to shake your own … be damned careful … damned careful …. because in most of the cases I have ever encountered they are (1) deceived, (2) On the prowl (3) wanting something from you. I trust Jesus Christ implicitly but I wouldn’t trust most who claim to be Christian any farther than I could throw them.

    1. Well aware….my problem is that that the Baptist church told the family they could not return to church until the victim apologizes to the rapist wife…..there is my problem with the whole thing.

  2. Good Morning chuq….
Having just blocked a ‘christian’ for being arrogant, dismissive, rude…I share your feelings…
    I am not a christian…..ouch….I shall remain a heathen. 😉
This ‘man’ believed that ‘truth is love’ Shame he could not conduct himself accordingly.
My patience has been wearing v.thin of late perhaps owing to the fact I have had a bellyful of fools in my notifications…god bless them. well…..someone has to….
    Good post my friend.

  3. Better late than never….? So I’ll weigh-in on the question of blame. The church’s reaction to the assault was barbaric, unchristlike, incomprehensible, sexist…don’t get me started, unforgivable to this heathen, and so much more. The assailant should not have been given a lightened sentence…which probably happened because he was…a man of god? What god? Zeus?

If your question was about the behavior of the delusional former youth pastor…the answer is the former youth pastor is to blame.

If your question chuq was about the abhorrent behavior of the “church”‘ first we must know who told the family not to come back; the minister, the church secretary, a group of elders, the person who answered the phone that day? The person or persons that made that statement (slash) decree is to blame. I believe that one can be barred from a church but not from the religion, unless formerly excommunicated.

In this deplorable instance…THE INDIVIDUALS THAT PERFORMED THE ACTS ARE TO BLAME, not the formal religions….of which, like Penn and apparently yourself; I will never be a part. I agree all religions are cults.

My cult of preference is Pantheism the belief that all of reality is identical with divinity,or that everything composes an all-encompassing, immanent god. Pantheists thus do not believe in a distinct personal or anthropomorphic god….wikipedia While not admitting or worshiping him as a god; I tend toward…the dionysian – Of an ecstatic, orgiastic, or irrational nature; frenzied or undisciplined…free dictionary.

Sometimes I do consider believing in the death penalty but probably not in this case. However I think he should have been given the full measure of punishment, under the law, with options for parole after half was served and he admitted everything and appeared genuinely repentant.

Hell the guy was a pastor, he deserves to be subject to old testament punishment. You know “Eye for an Eye”….he already had several children, they should cut off his thingie too. ~~dru~~

    1. ps: i totally forgot to say; the person who should be apologizing to Mitchell’s wife is that perv Mitchell and anyone in the church that had doubts about him and didn’t express them. Also the church should give his wife a nice little severance package that can only be used by her and only left to her children.

They let that guy loose on innocents or even not so innocent…who knows….doesn’t excuse 4 counts of sexual battery. That should be their punishment…..me
