Migration And Climate Change

I want to touch on the subject of climate change….let me say here that I do not give a crap about your opinion on climate change…..regardless of your views the fact is that it is happening…..I will talk about its influence on the international situations…..

I recently wrote a post about what was happening in the Middle East with climate change…..it is getting hotter and hotter and drought is becoming a yearly norm….but no need to do much of a summary just read it for yourself…..

I recently read an interview about the problems with migration and climate change…….

Climate change is now adding new layers of complexity to the nexus between migration and the environment.

Coastal populations are at particular risk as a global rise in temperature of between 1.1 and 3.1 degrees C would increase the mean sea level by 0.36 to 0.73 meters by 2100, adversely impacting low-lying areas with submergence, flooding, erosion, and saltwater intrusion, according to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

But even before such catastrophes strike, the 660 to 820 million people who depend on a fishing livelihood – more so subsistence-based traditional fisher families who already find catches sharply dwindling due to over-fishing – will have no option but to abandon both home and occupation and move.

Climate change is a problem that is feeding the world’s problems….problems like conflict and migration and famine….many are trying to out run the problems….but unfortunately they cannot run fast enough to do so.

  1. As usual, many of those who acknowledge the issue fail to see the bottom line, which is this: there’s nowhere on the planet that will NOT be suffering from the effects of climate change. If all those people who depend on fishing to live stop doing so, moving away from the ocean, (where, I am forced to note, if there aren’t enough fish for us, you can bet there simply aren’t enough at all, indicating the ocean is dying), trying to find food elsewhere, well, where the hell are they going to go? There already is not enough arable land to grow the food needed to feed almost eight billion people, while taking away the marine food sources, now depleted, adding more souls to feed is NOT going to fix the problem….

If the oceans die, (i.e., if the plankton dies, upon which the entire food chain of the entire planet is based), the effect will echo UP the food chain, all the way to the top, which, supposedly, means us. If the oceans die, the land, and all the creatures on it, die as well, for we are all connected, top to bottom.

Though, personally, I don’t think we’re the top of the food chain… The bacteria and insects eat us when we die; that makes them the top….

    1. Yes….too many piss and moan about the cause or not….and they should be worrying about what will happen….

      1. Yep; it’s way too late for “oh, poor me! Who’s to blame?” Anyone not prepared to go into survival mode, at a moment’s notice, quite simply, won’t survive.

      2. I know; that’s a bitch, not being able to tell ’em “I told you so…”

Reminds me of the gravestone epitaph some wit had, which said, “I told you I didn’t feel well…”

        LOL!

  2. Back before the days when the EU and America became over compassionate welfare states people stood their ground and fought for their freedoms and their existence against the forces of Nature. Today it is more convenient to abandon the threatened home ground and get free food stamps, medical care, education, housing and green cards.

    1. John not everyone is looking for the hand-outs and you and others seem to think. That is a easy answer to a complex problem. Hope you never need a hand up again….

      1. I hope I don’t either because when I did there was no son of a bitch willing to give one. Anything I have I had to struggle and sweat blood and sacrifice for to get. Even the so-called “Christians” had nothing to offer me when I was down except for “Prayer.” Mostly people seemed to enjoy the fact that I was down and they seemed to take pleasure in doing anything in their power to keep me down.

Yes! It is the freebies that are attracting the vermin. Freebies that you and I are having to pay for.

      2. Only in the rags that are read by those that want to hate everyone but their own kind….I will pay for the feeding of a hungry child….but I do not want to pay for the “freebies” to corporations under some silly notion that they will make all right….

      3. So because nobody offered you a hand gives you the right to deny help to others or accuse them of the same as others did about you??

That people didn’t give you the light of day when you were in need is sad. That the are convinced it is your own fault. That it is their tax money and make you feel like a beggar needing it.
Praying alone doesn’t fill stomages, or pay the rent

People needing financial assistance are not all welfare abusers, enjoying to live on other peoples tax money. to Keep you above water till they feel their feet touching ground is not only common sense it also defines a society if they do care for those in need.

    2. OOPs again, I meant to say I agree with Wanderer that handouts are attractive but not everyone IS looking for a handout. It came out wrong again….so i’m done for the day. Happy THURSDAY, yah all. hee hee hee. ~~dru~~
