The Chuck Weighs In

Remember the Huck and Chuck show of the 2008  elections?  Huckabee and his ever faithful side kick Chuck Norris…..well our boy in infomercials has made a statement about sharia law….well have not most of the right wing nuts made a statement about sharia law?

Chuck Norris stands ready to defend the country, promising to deliver a roundhouse kick to “radical Islamists” who would “use the freedoms in our Constitution to expand the influence of Shariah law.”  But first he felt he had to make a statement about the first amendment…..

“First, let me categorically state that I’m not an Islamaphobe,” wrote Norris. “I welcome the plurality of religions in America and am a firm believer in the First Amendment. But just as our religious freedom is secured in the Bill of Rights, so is our freedom of speech to share even our religious concerns.”

Once he made that non-racist racist statement he went on to say……(that was kinda like the racist that says, “some of my friends are black”)…….

“In the end, it seems to me we have a choice to believe that Shariah law is, or is not, a pro-Islamic system of civic, religious, moral and social laws, which is being used to run other countries and governments but is not being (nor ever will be) invoked to run ours, based upon the belief that our constitutional republic and Bill of Rights is inferior.”

So Walker has jumped on the looney wagon with the concern that sharia law will become thew law of the land….did I miss something?  I have seen NO evidence that sharia law is ever being used in the US….of course, other than the dipsticks on the radical right that want us to believe that it is…..

My daughter and friends tell me that I should not take any of this fecal matter to heart….but you know if they were not so blatantly stupid I might ignore them….but there is a little old man sitting on his porch in Willacoochie, Mississippi that will believe that sharia law will take over and we will be in the throes of Islam by tomorrow night….IT IS A LIE….and all lies need to be challenged….and that is what I am doing challenging Walker on his assertion…..What is he really afraid of….maybe it is that NO one will remember him for anything other than an infomercial.

  1. I too am not an Islamaphobe, though I hate all religions and Islam is one of the more dictatorial ones, but I’m not sure I see what you’re getting at. I agree with what you say about the right and its fear mongering, but the guy’s statements are, in my opinion, valid on certain levels…

Firstly, just because you don’t and have never had (never want??) Sharia Law running the US, that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. In the UK, it is unlikely too, BUT much MORE likely than the US. The more worrying thing is that, unlikely as the possibility might be, it is a LOT less fanciful now than it was a few years ago and that is largely because we have cow-towed to Islam as a matter of freddom rather than ignoring it as just another freedom that is not really important to the UK’s citizens. (That’s not exactly what I mean, but it’s the best I can do in a few lines).

Furthermore, Islamic extremists (as distinct from purely terrorist organisations like AQ, who nevertheless USE Islamic extremists and their beliefs) DO want to see world-wide Sharia Law in force and ALL countries run by it – it’s simply what they believe and NOTHING you or I could say would change those beliefs.

All extremists, be they Islamic, Christian, Jew, or bloody Martian, are DANGEROUS and (as YOU in the US know to your cost) in the end, the vociferous minority ALWAYS ends up ruling the silent majority.

In my opinion, religion (all religions, but particularly those that encourage and revere the most devout and extreme of their followers) are one of the GREATEST DANGERS to the human race – apart from its own stupidity that is.

The US as an Islamic state may seem fanciful to you, indeed it does to me, but it IS still a possible future scenario and one which would be VERY hard to reverse if it once got a hold.

So, I guess that means I don’t really agree, doesn’t it?

    1. He is a macho dude and he is fanning the flames of fear…sharia law is NOT or will ever be the law of the land…..once I am dead….who knows but I kinda doubt it…..

      1. I don’t know the man and I dare say you’re right.

No, I don’t suppose it will happen in your lifetime, or mine, but (in my opinion) the sooner ALL organised religion (regardless of personal belief) is consigned to the mists of past crude superstitions, the sooner the human race will have a chance of going forward instead of destroying itself.

There is some evidence (as I think we may have discussed before) that organised religion suppressed early scientific advances and set the human race back about 2000 years or more. That WILL happen again if a a religion such as strict Islam takes over and it most certainly COULD happen during our children’s lifetimes. THAT concerns me.

I cannot say nothing just because I don’t like what this guy may represent, or the reasons behind his words, or (equally) just because I generally like you and respect your point of view.

      2. That is no problem…I appreciate it when we disagree…the only saving grace is that organized religion seems to be on the decline for that last 25 years……my sole point was he said he was not a hater and then went to hate…..or at least the veiled hate we have now….

    2. Quin has a point about the, admittedly slight, creep of religious law in the UK. There have been instances where, if all parties agree, sharia may be accepted as a way to resolve disagreements – in civil not criminal cases.

I suppose you could say that’s not much different from two parties going into arbitration or conciliation or sorting out their differences without recourse to the mainstream courts.

Another example is the campaign to get a small part of London designated and marked as an eruv – an area in which observant Jews can carry certain objects on the Sabbath. Not all Jews approve of eruvs. And certainly some non-Jewish residents didn’t want their area so marked and designated.

Neither of these examples seem to be earth shattering, but, well, they exist.

On the whole I agree with you Lobotero, that this fear has been massively hyped up.

And by the way, sharia means law, so critics have no need to dub it sharia law.

      1. Hi and welcome to the site….thanx for the comment and we hope to see you more…..I just do not see the law of the land being replaced in any way here in the US…..Norris is just trying to keep his face on the tube….like most of those that are screaming this….it is a way to grab a headline or two for a couple of days….

  2. I think it’s ironic that these conservatives are so against sharia law yet they continually attempt to take away freedoms and rights from women and gays.

    1. Hiya Mad and to your point…they are lying and wrapping themselves in the flag and the Constitution and they get the dummies to follow blindly….kinda like sharia law…..

    2. You are absolutely right and THAT is the real hypocrisy here. They can’t see that THEY are exactly the same, but calling it by a different name…

  3. Chuck Norris long ago lost my respect when he advocated soaking our flag in tea. I guess desecration of the flag only matters when some evil liberal does it.

@msc conservatives want a theocracy; just one of their design. As a bonus, it keeps the dumb masses fearful.

    1. Terrant…..you are right….there are those that see all rights in the prism of extreme religious tint….these are just as much “jihadists” as the Muslim they are so afraid of in their daily lives….

      1. Isn’t that the real source of the fear – THEY understand just how dangerous religious extremism is because they are guilty of it themselves. They are not looking for freedom (religious or otherwise) they are looking for supremacy of THEIR chosen jihad.

  4. He needs to stick to hawking exercise equipment and watching Christie bounce around the studio….it would be time well spent….
