Where Oh Where Did Russia-Gate Go?

I do enjoy international relations and it has been sadly missing while people thumped their chest about the vote….and now before the conversation turns to 2020 I would like to talk about other “stuff”…….

The election is over and a distant story has been replaced with who voted for who and why….does anyone out there remember the whole Russia-gate thingy?

Well to make a bunch of Trump supporters happy it has been all but forgotten…..

After all the screaming headlines and hysterical talk of “treason,” the Russia-gate hoax was almost entirely absent from the midterms. One would think that the other party being in the hands of a ruthless foreign dictator who has it in for America would be a major campaign issue – that is, if the Democrats actually believed their own propaganda. However, we’ve seen neither hide nor hair of Putin in all those campaign ads, or at least hardly a glance: that’s because Russia-gate has always been a fraud, a setup, and really a criminal conspiracy to take down a sitting US President on the basis of a gigantic lie.

As the promulgators of that lie are exposed – the Deep State amalgam that includes foreign intelligence agencies as well as Trump’s domestic opponents – Democrats are backing away from what has suddenly become, for them, a very messy narrative. For what has happened is that the narrative has turned on them, and now implicates them in a massive scheme to embroil the Trump campaign in a web of foreign influencers.

Now that the election has been decided will the Russia thingy come around again?

I’m guessing yes it will….especially since Our Dear Supreme Leader has fired Sessions…..

Anti-Russian Bias

Oh My God!  It is Monday morn and I awoke to check the news and the breaking news at this hour is….OJ is a free man!

Seriously?  Basically….who gives a f*ck?

Got that off my chest…..

Have you noticed that there are some out there that feel like there is a Russia Bias in our media?  That they do stories that only make Russia look bad on the tiny screens every night.

How do you feel about it?

The U.S. mainstream media (MSM} presents itself as the arbiter of truth-telling and journalistic professionalism – the global gold standard – but its deep-seated biases, especially on Russia, belie that self-image.

The anti-Russian/anti-Soviet bias in the American media appears to have no limit. You would think that they would have enough self-awareness and enough journalistic integrity -– just enough -– to be concerned about their image. But it keeps on coming, piled higher and deeper.

One of the latest cases in point is a review of a new biography of Mikhail Gorbachev in the New York Times Book Review (September 10). The review says that Gorbachev “was no hero to his own people” because he was “the destroyer of their empire.”

This is how the New York Times avoids having to say anything positive about life in the Soviet Union or about socialism. They would have readers believe that it was the loss of the likes of Czechoslovakia or Hungary et al. that upset the Russian people, not the loss, under Gorbachev’s perestroika, of a decent standard of living for all, a loss affecting people’s rent, employment, vacations, medical care, education, and many other aspects of the Soviet welfare state.

There are times when I think the the MSM is just too fixated on the Russia thing…..times when I feel that a step back would be beneficial……a time out until more info is learned and passed on….

Does the MSM have a anti-Russia bias?

Let’s say some of the accusations are true….where does that lead us?

For lone the amount of “think tanks” has increased sharply….everyone looking for the “study” or “research” that will

Some of their so-called “findings” has added to the hysteria that engulfs the country….well at least in the bubble of DC….put them on the map.

As the U.S. government doles out tens of millions of dollars to “combat Russian propaganda,” one result is a slew of new “studies” by “scholars” and “researchers” auditioning for the loot,

And, if you think the pillars of the U.S. mainstream media – The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN and others – will apply some quality controls, you haven’t been paying attention for the past year or so. The MSM is just as unethical as the NGOs are.

I have been writing that I think that there is something to all this Russia stuff….however we need to step back and let the investigations proceed until the answers are uncovered.  Hourly speculation is doing nothing to move the search for knowledge forward.

Russia, Russia, Russia

Harvey and Russia……that is the extent of the news reports this week…..Russian news has gotten out of hand…..

They maybe diddled with our election……Trump and his cronies may have had dealings with the country and its leaders….the election thing is old hat…..the investigations are getting to the saturation level of most Americans

If Russia and the investigations are true then it is a legal issue….yes it is news but to what point?  Do we truly need to know if the pizza delivery guy met with some Russian looking for borscht on his pie?

With all the Russian news…is it possible that some of it could be misleading?

There is an inherent danger of news organizations getting infected by “confirmation bias” when they want something to be true so badly that even if the evidence goes in the opposite direction they twist the revelation to fit their narrative. Such is how The Washington Post, The New York Times and their followers in the mainstream media are reacting to newly released emails that actually show Donald Trump’s team having little or no influence in Moscow.

On Tuesday, for instance, the Times published a front-page article designed to advance the Russia-gate narrative, stating: “A business associate of President Trump promised in 2015 to engineer a real estate deal with the aid of the president of Russia, Vladimir V. Putin, that he said would help Mr. Trump win the presidency.”

Wow, that sounds pretty devastating! The Times is finally tying together the loose and scattered threads of the Russia-influencing-the-U.S.-election story. Here you have a supposed business deal in which Putin was to help Trump both make money and get elected. That is surely how a casual reader or a Russia-gate true believer would read it – and was meant to read it. But the lede is misleading.

Personally if any of this is true then a price needs to be paid….but I say let the investigation play out…..stop trying to convict in the realm of public opinion….all players that crapped on the Constitution and our laws need top pay and pay heavily……that is an “IF” they are guilty.

America’s Real Red Scare

These days we hear a lot about Russia in the news and on blogs and assorted journals on-line…..

I find it fascinating that we still have a “Red Scare”……this time it is not from “the Commie hunters” from our recent past……this time it is the “Commie fear merchants” from the past that are defending Russia……

Originally posted at TomDispatch. Back in 2011, thinking about the implosion of the Soviet Union two decades earlier and what followed, I wrote: “In 1991, when the Soviet Union disappeared and the United States found itself the last superpower standing, Washington mistook that for a victory most rare. In the years that followed, in a … Continue reading “America’s Real Red Scare”

5 Things To Watch In Comey’s Testimony

If you are a political junkie and are planning to watch the Congressional Hearing today then there are a few things you need to watch for during the event……

There is a guide…….

The hearing marks the former FBI director’s first public remarks since Trump abruptly fired him last month.

Trump ousted Comey on May 9, amid an investigation into whether the president’s associates aided a Russian effort to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. And on Wednesday, Comey described for the first time a series of uncomfortable interactions — in the months before his firing — in which Trump nudged Comey to publicly absolve him of any connection to the Russia probe. According to Comey’s prepared testimony, the president also demanded loyalty and asked Trump to go easy on Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser, who is under FBI investigation.
