It Is Spreading Like A Virus

In recent years the far right hate has been spreading throughout the world….especially in Europe and the US….politicians like LePen of France, Orban of Hungary and of course our own beloved Donald the Orange and now the Netherlands….Geert Wilders has been around and mouthy for years and now he has a huge victory…..

After the huge election victory of far-right leader Geert Wilders in the Netherlands, the world is paying a lot more attention to Dutch politics and the country’s alphabet soup of political parties. Wilders’ Party for Freedom—PVV—won 37 of the 150 seats in the lower house of the country’s parliament, leaving the country in what the Economist calls an “awful quandary.” Other parties have had a “cordon sanitaire” around the PVV in recent years, refusing to include the anti-Islam, anti immigration party in coalition governments, but it’s unclear whether other parties will be able to assemble a majority of at least 76 this time.

The next three biggest parties after Wednesday’s election—a Labour-GreenLeft alliance, the VVD, the NSC, and an alliance of Labour and GreenLeft parties—only have a combined 69 seats and they are “not enthusiastic about co-operating with each other,” the Economist notes. There’s a chance they could still form a coalition with one or two smaller parties, though Wilders argues that it would be undemocratic to keep his party out of government. More:

  • How the “political earthquake” happened. Cas Mudde at the Guardian blames the “political earthquake” of Wilders’ surprising victory on Mark Rutte, the outgoing VVD prime minister. Rutte and his conservative party had hoped to dominate the election by shifting focus from a dispute involving farmers to the issue of asylum seekers, but they instead created fertile ground for Wilders, Mudde writes. “If you make the elections about the issues of the far right, notably the “problem” of immigration, the far right wins,” Mudde writes.
  • Victory is
  • boost for far-right across Europe. The AP reports that the strong showing for Wilders’ party has buoyed far-right populists across Europe, putting the movement back on track after a defeat in Poland last month. Those congratulating Wilders Thursday included Hungary’s Viktor Orban and France’s Marine Le Pen. Like Wilders, who wants to see a Dutch version of Brexit, Le Pen is strongly opposed to the European Union.
  • A “middle finger against the establishment.” Rene Cuperus at the Clingendael Institute think-tank tells Reuters that proposals including leaving the EU and banning the Koran are not what attracted voters to Wilders. “It’s not an anti-Islam vote. It’s not an anti-EU vote. No, it’s more a middle finger against the establishment,” Cuperus says. “It’s an anti-establishment signal … to really warn the established parties to fix the housing market crisis and to fix migration.”
  • The “Dutch Donald Trump.” The BBC looks at the background and policies of the man sometimes called the “Dutch Donald Trump,” who has been a prominent figure in the country’s politics for more than 25 years.

Other political parties were holding separate meetings to discuss the election’s outcome before what is likely to be an arduous process of forming a new governing coalition begins Friday. To become prime minister of a country known for compromise politics, Wilders must persuade other party leaders to work with him. The party that came next to Wilders’ in the election was an alliance of the center-left Labor Party and Green Left, which was forecast to win 25 seats, and its leader, Frans Timmermans, made clear that Wilders should not count on him as a partner. However, Pieter Omtzigt, a former centrist Christian Democrat who built his own New Social Contract party in three months to take 20 seats, said he would always be open to talks.

I hope that if any of this is wrong then my Dutch visitors will set the record straight.

These people are like disease infecting the world.

This situation will be fascinating to watch….the rise of these hate groupies is very disturbing and smacks of the 1920’s and 30’s.

Rehash Of The ‘Day Of Infamy’

No not some history lesson of the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor….but rather a real Day of Infamy when a rabid mob descended on DC and tried to basically take over the government and prevent the Congress from doing its Constitutional duty.

It is a rehash because the actions of the mental deficient POS on 06 January needs to be re-told and re-told so that the actions on this day so that the humans in our society NEVER forget the treasonous acts perpetrated on this against the nation.

Mike Jensen keeps a database of bad guys. As a senior researcher at the University of Maryland’s National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), part of Jensen’s job is to identify violent events that occur in the U.S. and investigate whether the people involved have any ties to extremism. If they do, he adds them to his database.

In what he calls a “very active” year, Jensen says he might end up adding 300 individuals to the database. But after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, Jensen’s database grew dramatically.

“We have three times that on one day that potentially qualify,” Jensen said.

After the attack on the Capitol, Jensen started putting together a social network consisting of individuals who had been charged in relation to Jan. 6 and had existing ties to extremist organizations. He found many of the defendants had connections to extremist groups prior to Jan. 6, and that these groups were connected to one another. Relationships between defendants and a shared belief in the Big Lie forged new connections between these disparate groups. It’s not that your local Proud Boys chapter is regularly planning a bowling night with the neighborhood sovereign citizens collective. But when a lie about a stolen election aligns with their respective ideologies, they’ll be sure to show up in Washington, D.C., to riot together.

More than 800 individuals have been charged in relation to the Jan. 6 attack. To identify who had existing ties to extremist organizations, Jensen analyzed court filings, news reports and social media posts. He found roughly a third of those charged had preexisting ties to extremist groups1 and nearly one in five also had verifiable contact with other defendants prior to Jan. 6.

Jan. 6’s Tangled Web Of Extremism

This may seem like old hat when the country is dealing with SCOTUS, inflation, mass shootings and support for a war that is needless funded by the US as a proxy war…..

Time for Americans to deal with real problems, real threats and real issues and leave the stupidity behind for the sake of the country.

This nation is sinking….it is a rudderless ship of state with NO captain…..the rocks to disaster loom and only the voter can find the solution needed to save it from sinking in these rough seas.

The seas will get rougher….

According to a report from Bloomberg News, former members of the one-term president Donald Trump’s cabinet, as well as other officials tied to him, are busy at work creating what is being described as a “shadow government” that will be ready to hit the ground running should he run for president — and win — in 2024.

With the former president hinting that he may announce his third bid for the presidency possibly in September, a large number of officials from former White House advisor Kellyanne Conway to former Homeland Security head Chad Wolf have signed on with the non-profit America First Policy Institute being run by former Trump cabinet member and World Wrestling Entertainment executive Linda McMahon.

According to the report, the institute has assembled the group with the idea of not repeating the chaos of 2016 when Trump surprisingly won the election, and that should he not run and win in 2024, the organization is hoping whomever the GOP nominee is will make use of their roadmap.

From The ‘Can’t Fix Stupid’ Files

My series on the most moronic of our ‘elected’ officials…..and if I were giving a prize then Georgia’s Taylor-Green would be leading in the voting…

These are a few of her latest stupidity….

writing for Vanity Fair, columnist Bess Levin tore into Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for her recent suggestion that women are properly understood as being owned by their husbands.

“At a gathering over the weekend, Greene took the time to suggest that women are defined by being property of men,” wrote Levin. “Responding to Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson’s refusal to be dragged into the GOP’s culture war du jour — during her confirmation hearing, Jackson declined to provide a definition of a woman for anti-trans Tennessee senator Marsha Blackburn — Greene told the Georgia Republican Assembly, ‘I’m going to tell you right now what is a woman. We came from Adam’s rib. God created us with his hands. We may be the weaker sex, we are the weaker sex, but we are our partner’s, our husband’s, wife.'”

https://www.rawstory.com/marjorie-taylor-2657101937/

This fool never shuts up……

In the growing and alarming trend of Republicans accusing their political opponents of being pedophiles, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has led the charge.

It’s not surprising that Greene would embrace allegations of pedophilia against her political opponents. Before she was elected to congress in 2020, Greene was a proud supporter of the QAnon conspiracy theory, which holds that the Democrats are part of a “global cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles” (her words).

In the last month, charges of pedophilia, or “grooming,” seem to be everywhere. As Jonathan Chait explains in New York magazine, two stories are driving the increasingly prominent smear:

Marjorie Taylor Greene Goes on Alarming Rant Declaring Democrats ‘The Party of Pedophiles’

She went as far as accusing Romney and Collins of pedophilia….

ongresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has taken to accusing anyone who doesn’t agree with her as a pedophile — or a pedophile supporter. “Yes, Murkowski, Collins and Mitt Romney are pro-pedophile,” Georgia’s QAnon devotee said last night. Her proof? The Senators supported Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Greene, on a roll with pedophilia accusations, also said in the same rant, “The Democrats are the party of pedophiles.”

Without any basis for her dangerous rhetoric, the outrageous conspiracy theorist conveniently forgot to mention the real stuff that goes on with the Qnuts (like herself) on the far right, such as Donald Trump’s “I’m going to be dating her in 10 years” comment as he ogled a 10-year-old girl (see video at bottom), or the Federal investigation of Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz for having a sexual relationship with an underage girl, or the Tennessee GOP’s push for a bill that allows old men to marry young girls of any age.

Marjorie Taylor Greene now calls anyone who doesn’t agree with her a pedophile

When is that coward of a Minority leader, a Speaker wannabe, going to step up grow some balls and handle these douche bags?

Running a close second to Green is a US Senator, Hawley from Missouri……

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) was one of several Republican senators who either refused to define the word “woman” or struggled to come up with a definition.

Hawley’s initial definition excluded women who have had hysterectomies.

“Someone who can give birth to a child, a mother, is a woman,” Hawley told HuffPost. “Someone who has a uterus is a woman. It doesn’t seem that complicated to me.”

https://www.rawstory.com/josh-hawley-define-woman/

How scary.

The American people have put there trust in idiots like these two slugs and the future of the country hangs on their stupidity.

More From The ‘Can’t Fix Stupid’ Files

Shall we take a break from Ukraine…..well if you insist.

The Right just cannot stop trying to out stupid the other members….this time it is not Taylor-Greene but another female member of the House, Lauren Boebert of Colorado…..she seems to think the the US needs to act more like Russia with our neighbors…..

Some Canadian politicians are unhappy with conservative firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert, who compared the invasion of Ukraine to the way Canada cleared protesting truckers from its capital. The remarks came as the Colorado congresswoman was being interviewed by Fox Nation over the weekend at the CPAC convention, reports the Guardian. Boebert praised Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky for embodying what she called a “live free or die” philosophy. “I pray for Ukraine, and I wish them the best,” Boebert said. “But we also have neighbors to the north who need freedom and need to be liberated, and we need that right here at home, as well.” More:

  • “[It] is sad to hear you compare free & democratic Canada to the invasion of Ukraine,” tweeted Anthony Housefather, a Liberal member of Parliament, per the Washington Post. “If you would like to learn about Canada please reach out.” Another Liberal member of Parliament, Ryan Turnbull, tweeted that he was “speechless.”
  • Bruce Heyman, former US ambassador to Canada under President Obama, tweeted: “Reckless, dangerous and crosses every line of diplomacy and decency. Boebert would have been expelled from the
@GOP before Trump but now the darling of CPAC.”
  • Boebert previously expressed strong support for the truckers’ demonstration, which began as a protest against vaccine mandates, notes Insider. “The Freedom Convoy is representative of a people’s yearning for freedom—something so many thought may have been all but lost to decadence,” she tweeted on Feb. 15. “I’m glad to see the will to fight for liberty is still alive and well!”

Since I wrote this draft Boebert made a bigger ass of herself at the SOTU…..

She and her idiot cohort Taylor-Green heckled Biden several times….with stupidity like ‘build the wall’…all in all they made complete asses of themselves.

Boebert is another of those far right idiots that came to DC to perform not to govern…..these people spend their time trying to out crazy each other.

I have seen nothing about her and the other ilk that says they want to govern and have the best interest of the nation at the heart of their stupidity.

They prove every time they open their mouths that ‘You cannot fix stupid”.

Coming To A Precinct Near You

By now everyone has an opinion of the assault on our ability to vote….and now a new twist….far Right precinct workers…….

Far-right followers of Steve Bannon are heeding his unusual battle cry—to start working in their local election precincts. And as an investigative piece by ProPublica explains, this seemingly innocuous suggestion has the potential to affect election results around the country. To be clear, Bannon is not urging his followers to run for office—he’s urging them to assume roles in which they will have a say in the logistics of the elections themselves. “Precinct officers are the worker bees of political parties,” explains the story. Often, they deal with mundane stuff such as knocking on doors. “But collectively, they can influence how elections are run,” and this is what Bannon has seized upon. For example, precinct officers might choose poll workers or the people who sit on boards that oversee elections. Essentially, Bannon wants conservatives to seize control of the GOP from the ground up.

The Trump ally began sounding his call immediately after the 2020 election, and he has kept up the drumbeat. “It’s going to be a fight, but this is a fight that must be won, we don’t have an option,” Bannon said in May. “We’re going to take this back village by village … precinct by precinct.” The story makes clear that people are listening:

  • “ProPublica contacted GOP leaders in 65 key counties, and 41 reported an unusual increase in signups since Bannon’s campaign began. At least 8,500 new Republican precinct officers (or equivalent lowest-level officials) joined those county parties. We also looked at equivalent Democratic posts and found no similar surge.”

County party officials all over the US have been deluged with calls, but only from the right. “I’ve never seen anything like this, people are coming out of the woodwork,” says JC Martin, the GOP chair in Polk County, Fla. Since January, his county has added 50 new committee members. (Read the full story.)

Another example of trying to win elections through intimidation.

Voting is your right…do not let this band of thugs influence your vote….do what is right for this country not some mealy mouth douche bag.

The Second Coming!

But this time one will become two……

Sorry guys this is not some fanciful Biblical tale.

The Lord High Prophet of the lunatic Right has died….and the Far Right faithful have waited for his return….and now their worship and diligence has been rewarded…..two will appear to take the ‘idols’ place…….

It’s going to take two people to try to fill the radio void of Rush Limbaugh on the right. Premiere Networks says Clay Travis, 42, and Buck Sexton, 39, will co-host a show in the noon to 3pm ET time slot, reports the Wall Street Journal. Both are radio veterans, though Travis might be better known as the founder of the sports website Outkick.com. The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show will begin airing June 21 across the country. Premiere has largely been airing old segments of Limbaugh’s show (supplemented by live updates with guest hosts) since he died of lung cancer in February, and the Journal notes that those are bringing in a respectable 75% to 80% of the usual audience.

“We’re not going to replace Rush Limbaugh, we’re going to have an evolution of the show with fresh voices—those that grew up on Rush and admired him,” says Julie Talbott, president of Premiere Networks, which is owned by iHeartMedia. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Travis and Sexton will have an additional challenge. Radio stations around the country already have begun giving the Limbaugh time slot, or parts of it, to others, particularly Fox News regular Dan Bongino

The question is will they be a conservative talk show or will QAnon invade rationality on the news airways?

My guess is they will drink the QAnon kool-aid and become just another source for lies and misinformation that will continuously stoke the fires to stupidity and ignorance.

A GOP Split?

Happy Mardi Gras….for those that celebrate……

For years now I have been telling my readers that the GOP was heading down a dangerous path….a path that could not bode well for the Party.

Like I said for years….https://lobotero.com/2020/07/08/is-the-gop-collapsing/

After 4 years of Trump the GOP is divided…..true conservatives and the Trumpites….so is the GOP over?

The GOP’s dire need for an alternative reality is well-founded. Demographics are changing. The number of people of color is increasing and whites will be in the minority in a bit over 20 years. Despite Hispanic Americans’ increased tilt towards Trump in 2020, unless Republican Party completely overhauls its platform and outreach efforts, most POC won’t vote for these politicians who stand in stark contrast to their interests.

Trump intuitively knew something that past Republicans didn’t get. Today’s conspiratorial and overtly white supremacist wings of the Republican Party, formerly disconnected from and disillusioned by the GOP, needed a proper welcoming in order to win elections. From Charlottesville’s “very fine people on both sides,” to the Proud Boys’ “stand back and stand by” comments, Trump signaled very clearly that these hate groups are embraced as part of the GOP.

The GOP Is Over

The GOP is losing donors by the barrel….one of their biggest donors…one of the largest is the Chamber of Commerce and they have cut ties with the GOP…others will follow….

The popularity of the Lincoln Project has given rise to the idea of conservatives forming a new party to counter the authoritarianism of the Trumpites.

Just how divided is the Republican Party? Divided enough that some 50 former Republican officials are on board to form a third US political party to serve as a counter to a GOP under the thumb of a wannabe autocrat, according to Reuters. The outlet cites “four people involved in the discussions,” said to involve former elected Republicans as well as officials who served in the past four Republican administrations. Evan McMullin, the former chief policy director for the House Republican Conference who ran as an independent in the 2016 presidential election, tells Reuters that more than 120 people—including former Rep. Charlie Dent—participated Friday in a Zoom discussion about a center-right party that would focus on adherence to the Constitution and rule of law. McMullin notes that about 40% of those on the call supported the idea.

“Large portions of the Republican Party are radicalizing and threatening American democracy,” McMullin says, noting call participants were shocked that so many Republicans in Congress voted to block certification of Joe Biden’s election victory. An “extremist” wing led by former President Trump “has taken the [GOP] over,” McMullin tells the Washington Post, adding that some officials believe the party is “irredeemable.” Asked to respond, Trump spokesman Jason Miller tells Reuters that those involved in the talks are “losers [who] left the Republican Party when they voted for Joe Biden.” The Republican National Committee has a very different take, however, pointing to a recent statement from Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. She noted infighting would distract from the 2022 elections, and that winning is only possible “if we come together.”

I like the idea….maybe now the voter can have a real choice….but then that may be just my wishful thinking.

Apparently most Americans would like to see a third party as well…..

“I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The party left me,” Ronald Reagan famously said after becoming a Republican in 1962. According to a new Gallup poll, a record number of Republicans now feel their party has left them. The poll found that 62% of Americans feel the two main parties “do such a poor job representing the American people that a third party is needed.” That’s the highest proportion since Gallup starting asking the question in 2003, and it now includes a majority of Republicans. Some 63% of Republicans now believe a third party is needed, up from 40% in September last year. Among independents, support for a third party was at 70%, while 46% of Democrats would like to see a third major political party, down from 52% in September. The poll also found that a record 50% of Americans now identify as independents.

ut while most Republicans now desire a third party, it would take more than one extra party to encompass their views. Some 40% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said the party should become more conservative, while 24% wanted it to become more moderate and 36% felt it should stay the same. Some 68% of Republicans wanted Donald Trump to remain as party leader, compared to just 47% of GOP-leaning independents. Among Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents, 34% wanted the party to become more liberal, 34% felt it should become more moderate, and 31% wanted it to stay the same. No third-party candidate has carried a state in a presidential election since segregationist George Wallace won five Southern states in 1968, though Ross Perot took 18.9% of the vote nationwide in 1992.

Any thoughts on the GOP?

Any thoughts on a new party?

An Ultimatum For Greene

I recently wrote a post on a new Congresswoman from Georgia….who spends her time promoting conspiracies theories from QAnon…..she will be a throne in the side of the Congress for the next two years…..

For those that missed my post on this person……https://lobotero.com/2021/02/01/a-c-word-comes-to-congress/

Since the GOP seems to have NO intention to stop this person’s lunacy the Dems have stepped up…..

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says he plans to have a “conversation” with GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene—but that’s not enough for House Democrats, who want the Georgia lawmaker to be kicked off of committees because of her support for or endorsement of wild conspiracy theories. Politico reports that House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has given McCarthy an ultimatum, saying Democrats will take action to remove Greene from her slots on the House Education Committee and House Budget Committee if Republicans don’t do it themselves within 72 hours. In social media posts before she was elected in November, Greene supported claims the Sandy Hook and Parkland school shootings were staged. She also voiced support for QAnon and endorsed executing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, whose Florida district is near Parkland, was among a group of Democratic lawmakers who introduced a resolution to strip Greene of her committee assignments, NBC reports. Greene “cannot be entrusted to make education and budget policy” if she is going to deny the reality of school shootings, Schultz said. “The House has to be able to take actions to police its own membership.” Democrats are also discussing going through the House Rules Committee to remove Greene from the panels. Democrats say they don’t trust McCarthy to take action against Greene—especially not after she received a supportive phone call from Donald Trump over the weekend. In Monday tweets strongly reminiscent of the former president’s postings, Greene blamed “the DC Swamp and the Fake News Media” for the controversies.

Nice to see that Pelosi and the Dems have stepped up.

I never thought that this ‘person’ would back down from any criticism…..and she has not yet…..

He didn’t name her, but Mitch McConnell on Monday issued what is being described in multiple outlets as a “scathing” rebuke of controversial GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. And she then shot right back. The statements:

  • McConnell: “Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country,” said the Senate minority leader, per the Hill. “Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality. This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party.”
  • Greene: “The real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose gracefully,” Greene tweeted in response. “This is why we are losing our country.”
  • Context: In another statement, McConnell voiced support for House No. 3 Liz Cheney, who is facing a revolt from the right because she voted to impeach former President Trump, reports CNN. Taken together, the two statements “amounted to a rare step by the most powerful Republican in Washington to insert himself into an increasingly ugly intraparty feud,” per the New York Times.
  • Pressure on McCarthy: All of this raises pressure on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who is scheduled to meet with Taylor Greene this week. Democrats say if he doesn’t remove her from committees, they will force the issue in a rare move, but Taylor Greene says she has Trump’s full support after speaking with him this weekend. No matter what he does, McCarthy risks further dividing the House GOP conference, which the Hill notes is “already embroiled in a civil war on where to turn next in a post-Trump era.” McCarthy also will oversee a conference meeting Wednesday about Cheney. As of Monday night, it was unclear how he would proceed on either front, reports the Politico Playbook.

AS I thought the GOP has not done anything at all…..their latest meeting on this situation…..

House Republicans are under quite a bit of pressure to discipline Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for her rhetoric around far-right conspiracy theories and false claims of election fraud, but they ended Tuesday by taking no action, Politico reports. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy met privately with the freshman lawmaker for about an hour and a half Tuesday night, the AP reports, and he then called an emergency late-night meeting of the House GOP Steering Committee. But the meeting concluded with no decision made on what to do about Greene, including whether to strip her of her committee assignments or reassign her. (Democrats have threatened to move on that themselves if Republicans won’t.) “We are going to be working through some things,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise said upon leaving the building.

The committee could meet again Wednesday, the same day the entire contingent of House Republicans are meeting to debate whether Liz Cheney, who voted to impeach Donald Trump, should be booted from her leadership job. Meanwhile, the controversial Greene news continues to come in: In a previously unreported 2019 video, Greene mocks a survivor of the Parkland school shooting in Florida the year prior, NBC News reports. David Hogg, now 20, “is very trained. He’s like a dog. He’s completely trained,” Greene said in an interview with a Georgia gun group. She called Hogg, then a teenage gun safety advocate, an “idiot” who “only talks when he is scripted.” Hogg responded by saying Greene, who has made statements in the past suggesting the Parkland school shooting as well as the one at Sandy Hook were hoaxes, should be expelled from Congress.

Will be interesting to see just how far and what will be said with this move.

My question is….who has the balls to call her on her bullshit?

The American Right

Let me start by stating that in the past, in my younger days, I was an uber-radical…..I protested and I Worked for radical change for America. Never in our radicalized dreams that we ever considered doing what was done by the Right on 06 January….NEVER!

Since 1980 I have been saying and writing that the rise of certain groups would not end well for the country……I said then that the Right was a simmering stew of far Right leaning supporters and that it would only get worse if things did not change.

It seem that my fears were well founded.

Social scientists have long warned about the problem of “asymmetric polarization” in the United States, with the bulk of growing political extremism happening on the American right, rather than on the left. This one-sided polarization is observed in numerous academic studies, documenting the concentration of authoritarianism on the American right, via rising extremism in Republican Party politics, and related to the growing propensity of the right to use violence. My own research utilizing public opinion surveys reinforces the asymmetric polarization finding, as consumption of right-wing media is far more strongly associated with pulling Americans news consumers to the right than consumption of liberal media content is in pulling Americans to the left.

The large majority of mainstream journalists, public intellectuals, and scholars working in the field of fascism studies, have all been careful over the years to avoid characterizing Trump or U.S. politics as fascistic. Only a handful of scholars and other intellectuals, for example Henry Giroux, Jason Stanley, Carl Boggs, Paul Street, and a few others, have been sounding the fascism alarm bell for the last few years. These people were largely ignored by mainstream public intellectuals and scholars, despite recognizing the dangers of what’s been happening in real time.

The problem with American denialism is that it’s meant the circumvention of an important and necessary discussion about rising fascism that needed to happen following Trump’s rise to power, and in the wake of the terrorist white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, El Paso, and elsewhere. Now that Americans are finally waking up from their slumber regarding the threat of rightwing extremism, we find ourselves in the uncomfortable position of rushing from fascism denialism, to rapidly mobilizing law enforcement to disrupt, combat, and dismantle that fascist threat. This dramatically shifting reality speaks to the wholesale failure of American political discourse. This discussion should have been taking place in a very open and visible way over the last four years, before we reached a full-on crisis involving American fascistic violence.

A (Not-So-New) Profile of the American Right: On the Authoritarian-Fascist Crisis

This chapter in American history is not concluded….I believe it is far from over.

Closing Thought–26Jan21

Looks like the whole secession thing is becoming popular again…..

It was an idea that has made the rounds in the past……

Texas recently has taken the lead……I wrote about the idea in the state….https://lobotero.com/2021/01/06/secession-again/

A silly idea but it is not limited to Texas……

Washington Examiner reported that the chairman of the Wyoming Republican Party floated the idea of secession to form a neo-confederacy consisting of Republican-voting states.

“Wyoming GOP Chairman Frank Eathorne suggested the idea toWar Room Pandemic podcast host and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon in a weekend interview focused on the decision by Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, the third-ranked Republican in the House, to vote in favor of impeaching Trump on a charge of incitement of insurrection related to the deadly riot that took place at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6,” reported Mike Brest.

Eathorne told Bannon, a longtime adviser to Trump currently under indictment for an alleged border wall scam, “We need to focus on the fundamentals … Many of these Western states have the ability to be self-reliant, and we’re keeping eyes on Texas too and their consideration of possible secession. Now, they have a different state constitution than we do as far as wording, but it is something that we’re all paying attention to.”

I say let them go!

They will be begging to return in short order….once they lose the protection of the US and the benefits of being part of the country they will reconsider this ill-advised idea.
