Closing Thought–07Jul21

The good new over the long 4th weekend is that the country is opening up from a year long lock down…..good news indeed for businesses that have been suffering setbacks for months.

The bad news is that the incidents of gun violence is getting worse as this year moves on…..over the weekend there were 200 fatal shootings.

The easing of the pandemic has been accompanied by a general spike in gun violence, with some mayors worried about what the summer will bring, notes NPR. The long Fourth of July weekend may have just provided an unwanted taste. The Gun Violence Archive counts 540 shootings over a 72-hour period starting Friday, with 189 deaths and more than 500 injuries. Examples:

  • Chicago: The Chicago Tribune reports that at least 104 people were shot over the holiday weekend in the city, including two officers who suffered non-life-threatening injuries while dispersing a crowd. It was the city’s worst Fourth of July total since 2017.
  • New York, elsewhere: CNN reports 21 shootings with 26 victims in New York City from Friday to Sunday. Overall this year, gun violence is up 40% in the city over the same period in 2020, with 767 shootings and 885 victims logged. Elsewhere, eight people were injured in a shooting in Fort Worth, Texas, and four children were shot in Norfolk, Virginia, one of whom has potentially life-threatening injuries.

How truly sad!

It is pathetic that people die every day and yet there is no problem with the guns according to the views of idiots.

Maybe we should take a page from Hollywood and have a ‘Purge” day and let the mental midgets kill until they cannot kill anymore.

Of course I am being sarcastic……when will this type of stuff be recognized for what it is….out of control and dangerous to one and all?

McConnell And Democratic Centralism

I have often said that the US Senate is where great bills go to die…….and for the past decade it is more so than normal under the leadership of McConnell….but now the GOP Senate seems to be practicing ‘democratic centralism’…….

What is that?

Democratic centralism is a practice in which political decisions reached by voting processes are binding upon all members of the political party.

“The fundamental system of the Party is democratic centralism, which emphasizes both democracy and centralism. We pursue the goal of combining the two systems together, which neither overstresses democracy to suppress centralism, nor the other way around.”

… stipulates that if individuals hold different opinions, they can keep the differences to themselves but must obey the Party’s decision in action. 

Does that sound familiar in any way?

It should.

Looks like McConnell after demonizing Dems as socialist is taking a page from the playbook of Lenin.

  • That all directing bodies of the Party, from top to bottom, shall be elected.
  • That Party bodies shall give periodical accounts of their activities to their respective Party organizations.
  • That there shall be strict Party discipline and the subordination of the minority to the majority.
  • That all decisions of higher bodies shall be absolutely binding on lower bodies and on all Party members.

The members must fall into line and do what the party leadership tells it to do…..and those supposed individual loving party stooges do as they are told….no one wants to go against leadership for it could be disastrous to their long careers within the party.

Look at recent events…..McConnell has said that the main function of the GOP in the Senate is to thwart the Biden agenda…and the expects ALL GOP Senators to follow his lead and to vote against it all.

Before the fur starts to fly.  I am NOT calling McConnell a Leninist….all I am doing is pointing out the similarities between DC and the McConnell agenda.

Insurrection Update #6

Yesterday was the 6 month anniversary of the failed coup by Trump supporters….

My continuing series on the betrayal of the republic on 06 January 2021 bu followers of his high disillusioned followers of his highness Trump.

Why do I call this person such?

Well one GOPer thinks he is to put it bluntly…..GOD.

Glorious readers, it’s time to meet Wisconsin Republican Senate President Chris Kapenga, who probably ought to wash his tongue after the letter he just delivered unto Dear Leader Trump, begging for his approval and desperately trying to prove his devotion. It is the most embarrassing thing we have ever seen from a person who is ostensibly a grown man. It is more embarrassing than Tom Cotton trying to do push-ups and instead doing the worm because he’s apparently been skipping core day for the past 20 years.

Granted this douche was not part of the insurrection but is included to show just how far these low IQ slugs well go to suck up anything Trump….this thinking lead to the event on 06 January…..

Now on to the people involved in the event….

One insurrectionist  demands Trump pay for his legal stuff…..

A man arrested this week for participating in the January 6th riots at the United States Capitol building demanded that former President Donald Trump pay his legal bills.

As reported by Reuters legal affairs journalist Jan Wolfe, MAGA rioter Zvonimir Jurlina was arrested in Austin, Texas this week and charged with inciting violence against members of the media who were covering the rioting Trump supporters and with encouraging the theft of media equipment.

In a video posted shortly after his court appearance Jurlina complained about being a “political prisoner” who was being persecuted for being a “patriot.”

A police that joined in the insurrection has been found with all sorts of weapons of death…..

A former Virginia police officer charged in the Capitol attack was ordered not to possess any weapons—which is why authorities were alarmed to find an email receipt showing he’d ordered 34 guns. Thomas Robertson, fired by the Rocky Mount Police Department shortly after his Jan. 13 arrest, was released from custody on several conditions, including that he relocate all firearms from his home within 48 hours. Yet “four days later, while executing a search warrant at the defendant’s house in connection with the Capitol riots charges, law enforcement discovered and seized eight firearms from the home,” prosecutors write in court documents filed Wednesday, per BuzzFeed. Another search came Tuesday after FBI agents claimed to have found emails showing Robertson had ordered 34 guns, which were to be picked up from a broker, per the Washington Post.

Inside Robertson’s home, agents allegedly found a loaded M4 rifle, lots of ammunition, and a partial pipe bomb inside a box whose label mentioned “booby trap,” per BuzzFeed. It was “a metal pipe with two ends caps, with a fuse inserted into a hole that had been drilled into the device,” prosecutors write in a motion calling to void Robertson’s release order so he can be jailed until his trial. “Although this device did not contain explosive powder, such powder was found nearby,” they add, “this conduct, coupled with his calls for future violence, shows that no condition or combination of conditions can adequately protect the public from the defendant.” Robertson, who’s pleaded not guilty, described an unfolding revolution on Facebook in the days after the attack. “Peace is done. Now is the time for all the braggart ‘Patriots’ to buckle armor,” read one post.

Time for this coward to spend time among those in prison…..

Come August we could be looking at a repeat of 06 January….

Ahead of the Jan. 6 attacks on the U.S. Capitol, far-right militia groups and supporters of President Donald Trump were plotting in plain sight to “take the Capitol” and attempt to overthrow the government for their candidate.

CNN reported Wednesday that the “Department of Homeland Security officials are warning that the same sort of rhetoric and false narratives that fueled the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol could lead to more violence this summer by right-wing extremists.”

DHS is seeing the same kind of online rhetoric and threats that were coming out months ahead of the Jan. 6 attack. During closed-door meetings Wednesday, officials told lawmakers that misinformation and “the big lie” is a big influence on those plotting violence.

Seven months later, the plotting is happening again online ahead of a planned attack in August. Supporters of Donald Trump believe that he will somehow be reinstated.
” Some adherents have now pivoted into believing that Trump is the “shadow president” or that Biden’s victory was a sham,” wrote the Associated Press in June.

A conservative YouTuber who participated in the January 6 riot accompanied Republican members of Congress on a trip to the border Tuesday night, serving as a translator at times.

Anthony Aguero, a close ally of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene can be seen in videos and photos with Republican members of Congress who traveled to a route along the border frequented by migrants on Tuesday night. CNN’s KFile previously reported that Aguero went into the Capitol during the January 6 riot and cheered and justified the break-in.
During his livestream of the Tuesday visit, Aguero interviewed and chatted with Reps. Tom. Tiffany of Wisconsin, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, Chris Jacobs of New York, Michael Cloud of Texas, John Rose of Tennessee, Ronny Jackson of Texas, and Mary Miller of Illinois.
“Hi guys, Congressman Hawthorn is behind me,” Aguero tells viewers during his livestream, mispronouncing Cawthorn’s last name. “That is freaking awesome. That is freaking awesome. I’ll tell you that.”

“They Fought To Establish A Country”

God knows I have had my differences with the deification of the Founders…..the common belief is that they ‘fought’ to establish this nation…..and that is where I pick up this re-blog…..chuq

I recently audited a class on the Federalist Papers….and the professor kept saying that the conventioneers fought hard to establish this country……and that the fight brought about the establishing the United States of America to throw off the yoke of English dominance.

First of all I need a definition…his definition of the word fought.

For me the word “fought” means that they actually engaged in the battles that established this country…if that is the definition we use then there are only two…George Washington and Alexander Hamilton….and a lesser Founder, Aaron Burr.

But I will let a historian will in the blanks…..Zack Clary, B.A. History….College of William And Mary…..

To answer this question, I would have to know what distinction is being used to as to what constitutes being a Founding Father. The answer would be very different if you are referring to everyone who signed the…
