Can Policies Change?

We all are aware of the policies that the ‘other guy’ put into place….policies that stank of racism and bigotry…..but now that we have a new guy sitting in the ring of power can he or his minions in the Congress change those policies?

They can but time is running out….

Ever hear of the Congressional Review Act?

No?

Ask and thou shalt receive.

The Congressional Review Act (CRA) enables Congress to disapprove a final rule issued by a federal agency. A rule disapproved using this mechanism is not only nullified; the agency is also prevented from reissuing a “substantially similar” rule in the future unless Congress authorizes it to do so via subsequent legislation. Congress generally has 60 days to review rules, but there is a provision that also allows an incoming Congress to review the last 60 days of rules issued during the previous Congress.

The Dems and the new president do not seem to be interested in changing some of the policies…..

Undoing many of the policies of his predecessor is one of President Joe Biden’s top priorities. In early February, Biden even got a little defensive about all the executive actions he was taking in his first days in office to halt policies set by President Donald Trump. “I’m not making new law,” he said Feb. 2. “I’m eliminating bad policy.”

But as easy as it sounds on the campaign hustings or in a 30-second political ad, it’s complicated to overturn rules from earlier administrations. There is one tool, however, that Biden and the Democratic Congress could use to undo the policies the Trump administration left behind. A little-used law called the Congressional Review Act allows a new administration with a like-minded Congress to fast-track the repeal of regulations and other executive actions with simple majority votes in both chambers and no filibuster in the Senate.

As the deadline of 60 days is quickly drawing to an end….why has the Dems in Congress or for that matter Biden called for the use of CRA?

Why?

If crappy policies from the ‘other guy’ can be overturned why are the Dems dragging their feet.

As usual we get lots of rhetoric and little action.

Can you now see why I called them all gutless and worthless?

To be fair to the Dems they are considering the use of CRA (a fact that I learn after writing this post)….but only on a Trump era energy policy….

Senate Democrats are eyeing an obscure federal law as means to permanently overturn Trump-era regulations on methane, a chemical compound that makes up natural gas.

I applaud this effort….but why stop there?

  1. No, I’d not heard of this, thank you, Chuq!
    🙂

I suspect that there are reasons that they are waiting, since President Biden has worked with the Senate for so long, he would know how to maneuver this, so clearly there is more to the situation that we know about, somewhere.
