Stop me if you have heard this one before.
The US has a history of using the Kurds and then turning their back on them with disastrous results…..think Iraq….to help fill in the blanks here is a piece of history……https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1991-04-14-1991104040-story.html
Looks like Trump is holding with our pathetic tradition of using the Kurds and then throwing them to the wolves, so to speak…..this time it is in Syria…..you remember Syria from a year ago, right?
The White House said Sunday that Turkey will soon invade northern Syria, renewing fears of a slaughter of Kurdish fighters allied with the US in a yearslong campaign against ISIS. For months, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been threatening to launch a military assault on the Kurdish forces in northern Syria, many of whom his government considers terrorists. The Kurdish forces bore the brunt of the US-led campaign against ISIS, and Republicans and Democrats have warned that allowing the Turkish attack would send a troubling message to American allies across the globe, the AP reports. The announcement came after a call between President Trump and Erdogan, the White House said.
US troops “will not support or be involved in the operation” and “will no longer be in the immediate area,” in northern Syria, White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in an unusual late-Sunday statement that was silent on the fate of the Kurds. It was not clear whether that meant the US would be withdrawing its 1,000 or so troops completely from northern Syria The White House statement Sunday said Turkey will take custody of foreign fighters captured in campaign against ISIS who have been held by Kurdish forces supported by the US. In December, Trump announced he was withdrawing American troops from Syria but was met with widespread condemnation for abandoning Kurdish allies to the Turkish assault.
The statement does not make it clear if U.S. troops will fully withdraw from Syria or if they will just relocate. The statement also says, “Turkey will now be responsible for all ISIS fighters in the area captured over the past two years.”
Seems just a continuation of the policies of the US towards the Kurds……use them to achieve a goal then thrown them to the wolves….a policy that has been employed more than once.
“Lego Ergo Scribo”
As always; use them, then abandon them to their fate. You would think that the Kurds would have had enough of such betrayals by now.
Best wishes, Pete.
You would think maybe it is about the cash and not about anything else….chuq
Maybe they are more interested in the cash than the statehood thingy….chuq

It seems to me this is the United States’ policy throughout the world: USE and DISCARD!! … ‘The US has a history of using the Kurds and then turning their back on them with disastrous result. Happy Monday and thanx….HUGZ…..chuq
Agreed.. and it sickens me knowing that the U.S. has a habit of making “battlefield” friends and then dumping them off when we get tired of being involved. Maybe we forget the Palestinian-Israeli “peace” stupidity and try helping in a peace negotiation between Turkey and the Kurds instead. It may prove equally as impossible, but we should try. Hell, get the UN to send over a peace-keeping force to watch their common border. Just try something. In the meantime… the U.S. again looks like untrustworthy schmucks.
Trump has Tweeted to Turkey to tread carefully after so many GOPers came out against this call…..he is playing this the way he always does….throw gas on the fire then try to tamp it down. chuq
Thanx for the Ping….much appreciated….chuq
