Ukraine–Show Of The Day

With this president there seems to be a new show of the day everyday…….he takes us to the limits of reality and back again…..yesterday the big newsw was this phone call with the new president of Ukraine, the Hearing to come and the march toward impeachment…..

I would like to help my reader about the day’s doings….but read early for it could all change quickly…..

The big news is this phone call between Trump and Ukraine…..

The White House on Wednesday released a five-page memo summarizing the July 25 call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The AP shies away from using the word “transcript,” and the Washington Post explains that what was released “is a memorandum of a telephone conversation and is not a verbatim account of the conversation” in keeping with White House practice; it pulls from the notes and recollections of those who were in the Situation Room. You can read the document in full here, which reflects what CNBC reports was a 30-minute call. It begins with Trump congratulating the newly elected Zelensky on his “great victory” and “terrific job.” Trump then goes on to bring up Rudy Giuliani, Attorney General Barr, and Joe Biden. Here’s his explicit mention of Biden:

  • “There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it. … It sounds horrible to me.”
  • Background here: After taking the lead for the US in the country during the Obama administration, Joe Biden in 2016 called for Ukraine’s general prosecutor to be booted in favor of someone more aggressive. Trump and Giuliani have claimed he was trying to stop an investigation into Burisma Group, which Hunter Biden was on the board of.
  • Zelensky replies to Trump by saying the new prosecutor he appoints “will look into the situation, specifically to the company that you mentioned in this issue.”
  • Trump then said, “I will have Mr. Giuliani give you a call and I am also going to have Attorney General Barr call and we will get to the bottom of it. I’m sure you will figure it out. I heard the prosecutor was treated very badly and he was a very fair prosecutor so good luck with everything. Your economy is going to get better and better I predict. You have a lot of assets. It’s a great country. I have many Ukrainian friends, their [sic] incredible people.”
  • CNN reports DOJ rep Kerri Kupec has stated that at no time following the call did Trump talk to Barr “about having Ukraine investigate anything relating to former Vice President Biden or his son.” She continued, “The President has not asked the Attorney General to contact Ukraine—on this or any other matter. The Attorney General has not communicated with Ukraine—on this or any other subject. Nor has the Attorney General discussed this matter, or anything relating to Ukraine, with Rudy Giuliani.”
  • The Wall Street Journal notes that early on in the call Trump emphasized how good the US has been to Ukraine, unlike European countries. “We spend a lot of effort and a lot of time,” he said.
  • But the Journal and Politico report the memo shows Trump made no reference, implied or explicit, to the US aid he had put on hold a week prior.
  • Hillary Clinton responded to the release with a tweet in favor of impeachment: “The president of the United States has betrayed our country. That’s not a political statement—it’s a harsh reality, and we must act. He is a clear and present danger to the things that keep us strong and free. I support impeachment.”
  • And from Trump himself on Twitter: “Will the Democrats apologize after seeing what was said on the call with the Ukrainian President? They should, a perfect call – got them by surprise!”

But do not take my word for this… the transcript for yourself….make up your own mind…..

A little history of Ukraine and the many governments since the fall of the Soviet Union…..

If you do not like this story line then just stand by for these days the lines change almost daily and sometimes even hourly…..

  1. Dealing with a corrupt and Fascist regime like the one in Ukraine is unacceptable to me. And jumping on the profiteering bandwagon of that country just shows how low people will sink for money.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Reblogged this on It Is What It Is and commented:
Just another day at the office … ‘The White House on Wednesday released a five-page memo summarizing the July 25 call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. 3. “The president of the United States has betrayed our country. ” – Clinton

How has he done that ? If he asks Ukraine to find dirt on Biden for campaign that would be inappropriate. But if he asks for specific facts on Biden and son or asks for irregularities, that is a corruption probe not campaign research for election purposes. Have seen nothing in left media or from left’s politicians about the mysterious tran$fer$ to Biden’s son or Biden’s own explosion of wealth. Saw Biden on tape relish in that he got Ukraine prosecutor/investigator fired. Why is all this of no interest or issue for them ? It’s OK. I know the answer.

    1. And would withhold their aid package until they did….Using Clinton is apples and oranges……his was a sexual thingy Trump is using a foreign government to his advantage during an election…….and you do not see a problem? You would if it was Obama we were talking about….chuq

      1. The quote is from Hillary Clinton re Trump in this post (above) not re Bill Clinton sex scandal (whose impeachment over that I did not support). It was Biden as VP that threatened to withhold aid package. Biden did what they accuse Trump of doing. Trump has been pouring million$ of military aid to Poland and Ukraine all along. He would not withhold military aid to Ukraine because helping Ukraine militarily pisses off Putin and makes Ukraine a de facto NATO member which infuriates Putin even more . Well, I am not a constitutional lawyer. Is asking Ukraine to publish their own findings of their investigation of Bidens (not Trump initiated) the same as asking a foreign government to help find dirt on a candidate ? Biden’s conduct quid pro quo is certainly a criminal act. Is Trump asking for the facts on Biden’s criminal acts a criminal act because a campaign has begun? Like the DNC, Hillary, FBI, DOJ manufactured on Trump ? I am not an Obama hater. Compared to this crowd of loonies he’s seems a conservative. (I hate the Clintons and the Red Socks).

In general it has become so wearisome. I wish the congress would govern and end partisan investigations unless of course of real crimes of magnitude.

  4. Yes, Trump seems to dance around and throw hints here and there but I don’t see it as Trump initiating an investigation against opponent Biden. That’s the key. Ukraine already was doing one re its internal corruption and Trump would like that public. He has no part in investigation, did not start one or request one from Ukraine. If he did that would be a big problem. Seems he did not. He asks for revelation of their findings. On the other hand I read takes from dems that conclude one thing and takes from reps that conclude something entirely different. Just like all the investigations it is astonishing how the parties can reach such contrary conclusions from the same facts. I try to follow and understand and question my own conclusions as everything is based on partisan spin and facts become so adjusted by commentary I get lost. Value your take, one reason I follow chuq. But no matter what is revealed it seems both sides portray things in ways that legitimize there preconceived agendas: Trump is therefore guilty or Trump is therefore innocent. Or he did this and no he did not. One thing is sure: Republicans and anti Biden candidates will both use the Biden question in Ukraine to derail Biden’s nomination.

  5. I have. What I see at best is “reveal your Biden findings and we’re good buddies.” Where’s the tangible quo ? That’s different than asking to find dirt or asking to find damaging actions or asking to initiate an investigation for political advantage. Getting the information requested would be the quo. Ukraine findings are already in public realm or we would not know about Biden and son. Trump is not asking him to do anything he’s not already done . Trump also asked him to look into 2016 Ukraine/Russia in 2016 election interference as a favor. Isn’t that what we’ve been doing and that becomes inappropriate ? If the quo is clearly a bribe that is a crime. I think Rome and London had a role in Russiagate too. If Trump asks them to reveal criminal acts they uncovered and it damages democrats per chance is that quid pro quo or a legal criminal investigative report? So I’m going to pass on it as I don’t have the legal mind to fine tune the arguments either way and am not qualified to opine on the matter. There’s too much nuance. I recall we did not conclude similarly with Mueller report.

    1. See we see things differently…I have a problem with what was said and the Mueller Report which I have on my desk did not mention anything about clear his name…the only place I say that was on FOX and coming from the GOP…….if you take the Constitution the way it is written then there are several crimes being committed. chuq
