Why I Hate Blogger

I have been blogging for damn near 10 years and most of it has been here on WordPress….I originally started my blog on the popular site Blogger but then it was titled “Studies And Observations”….I was never happy over there…..something felt hinky with the site….I got lots of hits a day but seldom any comments….I found out later that a lot of those hits were from some “bot”….not real people at all…..

After about a year I switched to WP and have never looked back……so when I read some news the other day I told myself that my gut reaction was spot on……let others know that may be bouncing between the two…..

Artist Dennis Cooper made a horrifying discovery June 27: His 14-year-old blog—the sole home of his writing, research, photographs, and more—was gone, Art Forum reports. According to Fusion, Cooper’s blog was hosted by Google-owned Blogger. In addition to his blog, Google also deactivated his gmail account, which held his contacts and gig offers, the Guardian reports. The only explanation Google gave Cooper, who considers his blog a “serious work of mine,” was a stock message that he was in “violation of the terms of service agreement.” “I can’t even get a response from them or anything,” Cooper says. “I have no idea why they did it or what’s going on.” Google tells Fusion it’s “aware of this matter” but wouldn’t comment any further.

Cooper, the author of a number of acclaimed novels, isn’t even sure if his work is still out there somewhere. He’s considering suing Google to get the answer. “This will not be easy for me for the obvious reasons, but I’m not going to just give up 10 years of my and others’ work without doing everything possible,” he tells Art Forum. The incident is raising concerns among the art community about the power Google and other corporations now have to control artistic voices. “I think this is definitely censorship. The problem is nobody knows what the specific issue is and certainly Dennis has posted images that one might find troubling,” Stuart Comer, curator at MoMA, tells the Guardian. All Cooper knows is that other artists need to learn from him and “back everything up.” “Obviously I’m a living example of not to be blind like that and think that everything is hunky dory.”

If you like your hard work then……DO NOT TRUST BLOGGER!

  1. I think at this point, one must take the lesson up a notch, as well, to include all internet storage, and communication, of any kind, from any company. It’s like the old proverb from many cultures, “You can’t be hurt by what you don’t say.” In the modern world the converse is also required for our attention, for all you say can hurt you, & if it’s online, you said it…

    gigoid, the dubious

    1. Well,the dubious….
I’ve said enough of late….by saying exactly what I should not say….
      But hey,that’s me…….

      1. Wot have I got to lose? Spent reading in my ‘childhood’ too many spy/detective/psycho thrillers…don’t ya just love mental health…I do so love sniffin’ out a trail…& boy there are plenty if you are so inclined….the web covers the globe….got a good one yesterday…serendipity….all the way from Tunisia…& no one clocked it….it simply confirmed my suspicions…
        Now Wot?

      2. Only you can answer that…. I’d guess all there is left is to reap the whirlwind…. Tunisia? Gesundheit…. *grin*

I do love mental health, when I can find it… I sometimes lose track of it when out on a trail, so, I’m sticking close to home for now…

See ya, milady; have fun & try not to draw too much blood… or lose any….

        *wink*

  4. ….Google-owned Blogger…</b

Nuff said for me. I don’t trust those Google fuckers at all! Even though I use the inescapable Useless Tube (which they now own), I don’t use their search engine, or any other Google service, because of all their tracking & ads. Speaking of ads, I knew a guy a while back who they ripped off. They refused to pay him for the hits ads on his site generated because “they were much higher than our projection” and accused him of fraud. As if Mega-Google was going to go bankrupt paying the small time blogger the $100 they owed him.

And seeing as they’ve cooperated with Chinese censorship, Scientology censorship and other corporate censorship, I wouldn’t put censorship in this case past Google AT ALL. And because they have a near monopoly in what is essentially a public utility, their actions have huge consequences. “Terms of Service” are blank cheques that allow them to do whatever they want, including claiming ownership of your first-born child.

It absolutely astounds me how much blind faith people put in massive corporations and digital technology in general. Both are completely untrustworthy and unreliable as hell. Between glitches & hacking, only a complete imbecile would ever store anything remotely important on something connected to the Web-pipes, let alone a website controlled by a massive corporation.

Storing your “life”, or your life’s work, on a digital device is stupider than storing your favourite rare books beside an active volcano.

    1. Case in point….I didn’t intentionally post the above comment. It somehow posted itself before I was ready…and with yet another HTML error.

      1. More like “Satan in the machine.” Probably some NSA bot designed to fuck with my sanity.

      1. If anything, Loserbook is even worse. Zuckerberg is Big Brother’s (& every malicious Little Brother’s) BFF. Anybody who uses it might as well open their doors, put all their money, possessions and, above all, dignity on their front lawns and let people help themselves to whatever they want.

As regularly demonstrated on Mr Robot, most idiots just spew their entire DNA onto the screen. Assuming they even have one, not too many people’s passwords can’t be figured out by browsing their Loserbook page. Thus making hacking their entire lives like shooting fish in a barrel.

  5. I use Google+ and love it. As far as losing my stuff … so be it if that’s my fate. One thing though that’s kind of a saving grace for me … I do have originals of everything I post. Also, even if I forget to do something, I have an eidetic memory so recall isn’t really a problem for me.

  6. Oh, I still back stuff up … mainly because stress can mess with the firing of my synapses at times.
I keep everything in triplicate. Just like the old form of record keeping. It pays to pay attention.

  7. When I thought about opening a blog in 2012, I checked out Blogger and Word Press. I spoke with someone who has a blog on Blogger and she said that she hadn’t posted to it in years because it was impossible to get customer service. There is no Blogger community and it’s easier to get Google search returns for Word Press blogs than those on their Blogger platform.
