I regret that some visitors are having to give emails before they comment….this is a new thing….I have checked my settings and this is not what I have…..some visitors do not have to give their info while others do….I am so sorry for the trouble and I have contacted WP for an answer….and I wait….

I am not a blogger that obsesses over stats but I do check them once in awhile….recently I did just that and realize that I had reached a milestone.
Somewhere over the past weekend IST surpassed the 100,000 comment barrier….even though the weekend was pretty slow with Memorial Day stuff and all I am still thrilled at the barrier broken.
It has been a long and adventurous journey but it has been all worth whatever disappointments and barriers that popped up along the way.
I would like to thank all those that have stuck with me over the years and have felt comfortable in commenting on the posts I write.
Hopefully I will continue to write posts that readers feel compelled to comment on in their own time.
So once again….thank you very much and know that I appreciate all those that come by and voice their thoughts.

I have been wondering why some sites I visit I cannot ‘like’ them or why I need to log in every time I try to comment.
Nan a friend of Beetleypete has found at least one answer and I would like to pass it on.
Another thing…..I have not seen any Spam on IST for about 3 weeks and that is unusual….has anyone else had less Spam lately?

This is a report that should be read by anyone using WP….seems thousands of WP sites have been hacked.
Thousands of sites running the WordPress content management system have been hacked by a prolific threat actor that exploited a recently patched vulnerability in a widely used plugin.
The vulnerable plugin, known as tagDiv Composer, is a mandatory requirement for using two WordPress themes: Newspaper and Newsmag. The themes are available through the Theme Forest and Envato marketplaces and have more than 155,000 downloads.
Tracked as CVE-2023-3169, the vulnerability is what’s known as a cross-site scripting (XSS) flaw that allows hackers to inject malicious code into webpages. Discovered by Vietnamese researcher Truoc Phan, the vulnerability carries a severity rating of 7.1 out of a possible 10. It was partially fixed in tagDiv Composer version 4.1 and fully patched in 4.2.
According to a post authored by security researcher Denis Sinegubko, threat actors are exploiting the vulnerability to inject web scripts that redirect visitors to various scam sites. The redirections lead to sites pushing fake tech support, fraudulent lottery wins, and push notification scams, the latter of which trick visitors into subscribing to push notifications by displaying fake captcha dialogs.
Sucuri, the security firm Sinegubko works for, has been tracking the malware campaign since 2017 and has named it Balada. Sucuri estimates that in the past six years, Balada has compromised more than 1 million sites. Last month, Sucuri detected Balada injections on more than 17,000 sites, almost double the number the firm had seen the month before. More than 9,000 of the new infections were the result of injections made possible by exploiting CVE-2023-3169.
Please take heed for your site could be at risk.

Before I go any further I need to wish all my fathers out there a very happy Fathers Day…
When I post on something I try to include links so that my reader can check the information and my accuracy……as well as the back story so that gaps can fill in any blanks that I may have inadvertently left to the imagination.
Like on 08 June I posted an article remembering the dastardly attack in 1967 on the US Naval vessel, USS Liberty, there is a wealth of information about this attack that killed 34 sailors wounded many….and yet not one person click on the links to see the “rest of the story”.
Looks like since it was Israel that killed those sailors no one wants the story to be told…..it is as if no one gives a sh*t about the deaths and injuries. But let a couple Americans get killed in say a hijacking and these same Americans are ready to go to war.
I think it is PATHETIC that Americans care so little about our war dead.
I am rethinking the use of links.
Since they are about as useful as soiled toilet paper….why bother?
Why waste my time trying to help the reader understand complex issues?
Maybe I would do better if I wrote fluff pieces. Self-help, fashion, yada yada yada……but I rule out mind numbing BS. Or maybe try poetry again (tried and was a failure).
I read many posts that bitch about the condition of this country…..and yet those posts are about as well received as a rattlesnake in heat…..they want answer to what is happening then look no further than unused links.
I provide these links as a service to my readers….but few bother….so why continue to assist at every turn?
This type of apathy is what drove me out of political commentary for a decade….and it is very close to doing it again.
I fight every day trying to inform and educate….most of my effect falls on blind eyes…..so why bother?
Now I can understand why QAnon and the ilk are so popular….the people do not care!
Think about it….the country is going to Hell and rapidly and my most popular post is “Watermelon Makes You Horny”…..for me that says it all.
To say that I am a bit disappointed that few care enough to check the ‘rest of the story’ would be an understatement….keep in mind that when you are bitching about the state of our country and you look in a mirror then you are face to face with the problem.
Please do not misinterpret my post….I am proud of the followers and readers and commenters that visit IST on a regular basis….to those loyal readers I say thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I shall continue (for now) to write what I know….but the links may be sparse or non-existent….that is what I want to do….but I know that I will continue and hope concern will return.

Actually I was blogging on another site for about 2 years before I chose to move over to Word Press.
It has been a great experience and have many internet friends that I cherish

I have been blogging for over 10 years…..about 11 come December…for the first couple of years I was on Blogger….a good site but I found it more better here on WordPress.
I will admit that in the beginning the going was slow…lucky to get 5 hits a day and even luckier if I got that many comments in a week…..but things have changed for the better.
Followers…I could go a month with no new followers….most of my followers come from WordPress I do get some from Twitter and that is where I lose followers when I do lose them….I do not use Facebook for anything I do not trust them or their system.
But this year has been an excellent year….here recently I have been getting 2-5 new followers a day….. (at the time of this post could drop off at anytime)….and the comments have gone from an average of 10 a day to an average of 35-80 a day.
Comments is where I judge my Blog…..people on WP are not shy about giving their opinions and there is where I judge the “popularity” of the Blog…..without comments then those visitors could very well be just bots.
I try to make my posts as inviting and as diverse as I can that in the hopes that they will feel like commenting. I have read some blogs where the author in the first paragraph insults the reader to the point that a comment will not come. And then these same bloggers cannot figure out why they have so few visitors or commenters and usually they blame it on the government that has them under some sort of surveillance.
I do not think that the theme or the font or the color guarantees success….if anything I believe it is content….plus offer up one’s own analysis to go with the post….that helps others know your thinking and the opportunity for them to comment.
Be consistent and convenient….will help build the blog into somethin g people will follow and comment.
All in all the experience I have had in blogging has been the most positive on WordPress….I have always said that if some reader thinks they have an idea to help IST become a better visit to let me know and I will consider the suggestion.
Blogging is hard work if you want to give the public a successful source of information or entertainment……the readers will find you just hang in there and give it a chance.
There have been disappointments but they are small compared to the people I have met…..people that enjoy a good exchange of ideas and opinions…..after all we are in this experiment together why not make the most of it?

The news of the day is boring and redundant…..I can only stand so much blah-blah before I go into another universe in my head.
My weekend continues and I have nothing of value to contribute today…..so I will go off the cuff…..
I like to keep my readers up to date on what is happening here on IST…..
I started blogging in 2006 after a nasty fall that crush one of my legs and I needed something to keep my mind busy and off my problem….since I had been a teacher and did lots of writing I figured that I would take up my old vice…..news and commentary.
Things started off slowly…basically I used my blog to cut and paste news articles that I wanted to keep for reference…..after about a year I started getting comments on the stuff I had written….and then I started adding my thoughts backed up by links and facts and my comments improved and expanded…
Originally the title was Studies And Observations and then it went through a period of trying to find a better title and I finally settled on In Saner Thought…the title of a small book of poetry from my youth.
It was always pretty good at attracting people but few stayed around for long….most of the deserters were from my Twitter account not WP……..and then I installed the translation widget and my readership expanded rather rapidly….I am getting many more international visitors than before….I now have regulars from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Morocco…..to mention only a few….and I am thankful for their readership and comments.
I have always contended that I am no expert at this blogging thing….but as things have progressed I feel that IST has become a success….not as popular as I would want…but then we all think we are better at it than others….that ego trip we are all on when we write a blog.
Another aspect that I consider a success is in the comments…..they are great and I like to treat them as if I am speaking to the person directly not just throwing stuff at them. Also those that comment also reply to replies…it strikes up a conversation between visitors……… I like that aspect also.
In the beginning most visitors were from English speaking countries but these days I am getting regulars from all over the globe…..I am also getting multiple re-blogs since the installation of the translation widget and that helps expand the conversation and exchange of thoughts.
Finally, recently I was contacted by Autumn of WriterBeat.com that asked if they could cross post one of my articles on their site…..I agreed and here is the link……
