Turning Away Refugees Won’t Fight Terrorism

Well crap!  The hurricane season is 6 days old and already a tropical storm in the Gulf….looks like a long season to look forward to this year…oh goody!

This post ought to get the rabidly insane frothing at the mouth…..

Even with the election the continuing saga of the refugees that are running from the conflict in several countries….even with the election there are those that need a boost for attention from the media like Alan West or other low level Repub….

There are many Americans that have a burning fear of these people….most because they allow morons to throw fuel on the flames of fear…..they seem to fear these people….all of which in their little brains are only looking for hand-outs…..I guess that is easier than having a conscience…..or spending some time trying to understand the situation.

I read a piece about what is helping make this crisis that so many fear…….

“They make a desert and they call it peace,” is the bitter line Tacitus attributed to the British tribal leader Calgacus speaking 2,000 years ago of the devastation inflicted by the Roman army on the rebellious British. The denunciation has echoed down the centuries and been applied to many pacification campaigns, but it is peculiarly appropriate to what is now happening in Iraq.

Some 20,000 Iraqi soldiers, special forces, federal police and Shia paramilitaries are advancing on Fallujah, a Sunni Arab city held by Isis since early 2014. They are backed by the destructive might of the US-led coalition of air forces that have carried out 8,503 air strikes in Iraq and 3,450 in Syria over the last two years. Without such close air support, the anti-Isis forces in Iraq and Syria would not have had their recent successes.

After reading this article I thought I would press it for my readers to have a chance to also read it.  Sadly it will most likely make little difference because I suspect that there is a deeper reason or possibly a deeper ear at work.

Many American governors have banned Syrian refugees from their states. But that choice might not have the intended consequences.

That raises an ethical question, of course—do Americans deserve peace of mind more than Syrians refugees deserve safety? The more practical question though, is whether blocking Syrian refugees will stop terrorism.

Defined narrowly, the answer is a qualified yes: A Syrian refugee moratorium would block the narrow subset of terrorists who also happen to be (or are posing as) Syrian refugees.

There is more….the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has a study and has issued a statement on the resettlement of refugees…..(this one will go unread)……

Germany must accelerate structural reforms to boost growth potential by broadening the participation of refugees, women, and older workers in the labour market, the International Monetary Fund has said.

The IMF recommended that Germany implement several reform measures to help revitalise potential growth and enhance the authorities’ leadership at the European level in the area,

  1. 2nd link I agree with …but propaganda rules…
The IMF could not even influence the ECB over Greece…..so in my mind they are just as bad as all of them.

As for Germany’s economic growth…it is the best in Europe…..hahaha…so they dictate to others?
Meanwhile, look at what this bunch of rogues have done to Spain,Greece,Portugal etc…and let us not forget how the far right is rising……people are only able to assimilate refugees if they do not feel threatened….and with austerity as it is? ….. …..
    Ideologies bug me.
Yes,it is a shame that we in the West created the Wars……and doing so created this refugee situation.
    Any solutions?
    Ah,yes,another war!

    1. ‘A lot to take in and sadly few will take the time’…
      Sadly true…
I took the time….with the refugees from Romania…..after the collapse of communism…
Years back I shared a house with 4/5 of them….sorting out their problems… teaching one of them how to speak English…bloody hard workers much like the Poles.
      I also learned how to…drink….
      Țuică…
which is a traditional Romanian spirit that contains 28–60% alcohol by volume.
      grin…
      ps…not up to it now…
      ;(

  2. Sly s.o.b.? Oh, right; Sly, shifty old bastard. Got it…. Sounds like my kinda guy…. *wink*

Combining the information from the previous post with this batch, I am struck at how what I see as the primary issue it points out is almost completely ignored by the entire gamut of discussion participants. This is, patently, the increasingly obvious effects of overpopulation on every aspect of human interaction, from politics, to economics, to conflict, to religion, to the ecosystem as a whole. All of these are showing the signs of imminent collapse, especially the over-worked, outdated, unwieldy, and completely delusional insistence humanity shows for money, and capitalism as a means of societal interaction.

But, maybe that’s just me. It’s worth a thought or two, though, I think, for it has been known since the days of Robert Malthus that population grows at an exponential rate, while the available resources can only grow arithmetically. Once the gap between the two becomes large enough, (a point passed some years ago, by the way…), there is, simply, no way to stop it all from becoming catastrophic. The numbers cannot lie, nor can they be denied….

Well, except by about 99.9999999% of the human race, who have managed to ignore it long enough to make it a pressing danger…. The whole war/refugee crisis is just a symptom, and, just the beginning of what is to come, on many fronts besides political….

Gird your grids for a big one, ffolkes; it won’t be long now before the house of cards is on its way down to the ground….

    gigoid, the dubious

    There…. Is that depressing enough?

  3. In the last 6 months, my piddling little Canuckistan has already taken in more than double the number of Syrians that America plans to take in total. We don’t have a military to speak of and few people have guns because there is no 2nd Amendment. Yet somehow, ISIS hasn’t taken us over. They haven’t even killed anybody yet. Maybe they’re waiting for when they hit the 50,000 Syrian mark.

You can’t fart in my town without hitting a Syrian. Last time I was at the dentist, a Syrian refugee was in the room next to mine. I heard howling. When I was finished, I got up and took a peak. Surprisingly, the howling wasn’t the result of the Syrian tying up the dentist and torturing him for information. He was doing the howling. He had lots of painful dental work that needed to be done after a lifetime of neglect. When the Syrian left, he was on the edge of tears and, despite the pain, was thanking the dentist profusely.

When will this nightmare end? I’m willing to follow Sharia Law if that’s what it takes.

    1. As long as someone is making a profit it will continue until a new cash maker is found…sorry little will change for now….

      1. I was, of course, being facetious.

So far, the biggest trouble here is that the kids are seriously traumatized. It’s bad enough none of them understand English yet. But every time an airplane or chopper goes past, they go into panic mode, screaming, running and shitting their pants….just like when your average American hears the word “ISIS”.

Sadly, the Syrian community is concentrated a couple minutes south of a major hospital’s helicopter landing pad and is also under the local airport’s “Backup Route”. So classrooms go into panic mode nearly every day. Hopefully, it will wear off after a year or two.

      2. If you listen to the rabid fear mongers…there are few kids the rest are all burly men waiting to invade a country….
