Every now and then I run across a story in the search for material for this site…….. I run across a story that just makes me shake my head in disbelief……we all know of the raging battle over entitlements being fought in the halls of Washington and on the air….if you are not then perhaps another game of Frogger will help…..but this story is one that I just had to post….
By now most of us know that the entitlement hater Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin is on a crusade to eliminate Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid….regardless of the spin he puts on it….his plan will essentially eliminate the programs if they are passed the way they are written…..
Thanx to website, Politicususa for this report……
When Representative Paul Ryan was 16 years old , tragedy struck his family. His 55 year old father had passed away from a heart attack. Young Paul Ryan found his father’s lifeless body and was burdened by the fact that he had to tell his mother and siblings of this horrible situation.
After his father’s passing, young Paul Ryan started collecting social security benefits until the age of 18 years old. He took this benefit and saved it for his college education. Representative Paul Ryan is one example of the millions of people whose lives have depended on our social contract with the American people. Without this benefit, his mother would have had to make even tougher decisions and Representative Paul Ryan may not have been able to pay for his college education. This social contract lifted him and his entire family out of a tough situation.
The opportunity for Ryan to get back on his feet thanx to a government program will be eliminated by the same person that it helped in years past….so it was fine for him to receive the help he needed but the rest of us are NOT that so entitled…….
You people need to wake up and pay attention! Your way of life is fleeting and disappearing…..and the sad part is that the voters are the enablers of this demise…..
Oh my holy God. Gut the programs that helped you. Ungrateful bastard. 😡
See below!
Medicare as we know it would end for new beneficiaries in 2022 under the House Republican budget proposal. It would be replaced with a government voucher that would be paid directly to private insurance companies. This system would double costs to seniors. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, or CBO, concluded that “most elderly people would pay more for their health care than they would pay under the current Medicare system.”
Seniors would pay more for two reasons. First, the Ryan plan forces future beneficiaries out of the traditional Medicare plan into a more expensive private plan. In 2022 65-year-olds would be forced to pay twice as much for care than they would under Medicare: $12,500 compared to $6,150. The same holds true for 65-year-olds in 2030. They would be forced to pay $20,713 compared to $9,138 under Medicare.
None of that pertains to the article above, or what Spinny said. Ryan benefitted from Social Security, which, under his plan, remains untouched according to the CBO. That was my only point. I don’t support Ryan’s plan. It’s bad enough without people making things up about it.
Terrance the voucher system is touching the plan….and it does nothing for old farts like me….but if passed will effect my granddaughter….I believe that the same CBO report was used to denounce Ryan’s budget…..
Thanks for the information. It’s more about his attitude toward entitlement programs.
Yes, the CBO report isn’t exactly friendly to the Ryan plan. I read the whole report and concluded that it was not something I wanted to support. I just wanted to point out that Social Security remains untouched. Perhaps because Ryan benefitted from it, he decided not to destroy it. I dunno.
Page 2 of the Congressional Budget Office’s finding upon examination of the Ryan proposal.
The CBO projection does not go beyond 2030……funny how CBO is an authority until it is used by Dems to try and make a point….
“CBO is what they use on the budget side — as a matter of procedure, any numbers from the Heritage Foundation or anybody else are essentially worthless,” Bruce Bartlett, a former Treasury official under President George H.W. Bush, said in an interview. “You can assert whatever you want to assert, but you can always find some half-baked tax think tank that will make up any number you feel like.”
If it had not been for the education benefits I received from the VA after serving in the military I too would have never been able to go to college and likely would not have captured the higher salary jobs I did in the construction management field.
Great find lobo.
Thanx lb….and I am the same….my GI bill paid for my education…unfortunately there is not much demand for a phd in political history these days…LOL
