The Gutting Of Social Security

This one government program is one that many Americans use along with Medicare…..and yet almost every Congress has a plan to reform the program and in the process gut what little benefits American retirees actually get.

The GOP NEVER stops trying to destroy the program and will go to extreme lengths to do so.

Has anyone ever noticed the GOP with its extreme spending always looks to social security in the fight for a balanced budget and the fight against the rising deficit?

And they are at it again because of Covid-19…..they want to gut the program just a little more…..

A proposal by Sen. Mitt Romney to establish congressional committees with the specific goal of crafting legislative “solutions” for America’s federal trust fund programs has reportedly resurfaced in GOP talks over the next Covid-19 stimulus package, sparking alarm among progressive advocates who warn the Utah Republican’s bill is nothing but a stealth attack on Social Security and Medicare.

Politico‘s Burgess Everett reported Wednesday that Romney’s TRUST Act, first introduced last October with the backing of a bipartisan group of senators, “is getting a positive reception from Senate Republicans” in coronavirus relief discussions, which are still in their early stages. The legislation, Everett noted, “could become part of the mix” for the next Covid-19 stimulus as Republicans once again claim to be concerned about the growing budget deficit.

It amazes me that the toothless old farts that depend on SS for their retirement would keep voting these slugs in the GOP into office….and almost every time they lose a little more out of the their retirement.

I have now decided that these fools deserve the f*ckings they get from the GOP…..because they are beyond ignorant that they will vote against their best interests.

So bend over seniors and drop those drawers and enjoy the ride.

Since you are too slow to learn stuff…..you deserve every f*cking you get from the GOP.

Screw The Elderly!

Closing Thought–05Sep19

When I was forced to retire I was fortunate that I had a good pension and Medicare but too many seniors must depend on others for some of the necessities like FOOD.

When I was working for the State I saw just how good such programs as Meals On Wheels were….but that successful program has run into monetary problems thanx to the GOP and their cuts to programs like Meals On Wheels……to the point that many seniors are going hungry.

And government relief falls short. One of the main federal programs helping seniors is starved for money. The Older Americans Act — passed more than half a century ago as part of President Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society reforms — was amended in 1972 to provide for home-delivered and group meals, along with other services, for anyone 60 and older. But its funding has lagged far behind senior population growth, as well as economic inflation.

The biggest chunk of the act’s budget, nutrition services, dropped by 8% over the past 18 years when adjusted for inflation, an AARP report found in February. Home-delivered and group meals have decreased by nearly 21 million since 2005. Only a fraction of those facing food insecurity get any meal services under the act; a U.S. Government Accountability Office report examining 2013 data found 83% got none.

This should be unacceptable to ALL Americans.

I feel certain that somewhere some mental midget will try and blame this on immigrants…..as they always do to hide their racism……but this would not be a problem if diverted funds were used where they were needed……a wall is not that spot.

By the way….China built a wall to stop “immigrants” and it stopped nothing…..money pissed away just as the US is doing today.

Pay Less And Save!

There has been a debate (if it could be called that for all the lies told) about affordable health care…..there have been all sorts of plans and all of them have favored the industry over the society……GOP is in the pockets of the industry….the Dems are kneeling in front of the industry with their pockets wide open……and in the end the people continue to be screwed daily by the industry….

What if I could show you a way to pay less for medical care to the tune of $5 trillion savings in ten years?

“Medicare for All promises a system that is fairer, more efficient, and vastly less expensive than America’s bloated, monopolized, over-priced and under-performing private health insurance system.”

Confronting the question most commonly asked of the growing number of Americans who support replacing America’s uniquely inefficient and immoral for-profit healthcare system with Medicare for All—”How do we pay for it?”—a new paper released Friday by researchers at the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) shows that financing a single-payer system would actually be quite simple, given that it would cost significantly less than the status quo.

“It’s easy to pay for something that costs less,” Robert Pollin, economics professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and lead author of the new analysis, declared during a panel discussion at The Sanders Institute Gathering in Burlingon, Vermont, where Pollin unveiled the paper for the first time.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2018/11/30/easy-pay-something-costs-less-new-study-shows-medicare-all-would-save-us-51-trillion

That is a lot of money that could help our deficit…..but to be honest the figures are stretched to the limit to make the point….I doubt is the savings will be that high…..but the savings will be there.

The US military budget is such a bloated monstrosity that it contains accounting errors that could finance two-thirds of the cost of a government-run single-payer health insurance system. All Americans could visit an unlimited array of doctors at no out of pocket cost. At least that’s a notion spreading on left-wing Twitter and endorsed and amplified by newly elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of Democrats’ biggest 2018 sensations and an undeniable master at the fine art of staying in the public eye.

Unfortunately, it’s not true. The idea spread like a game of telephone from a Nation article to the US Congress while losing a crucial point of detail: The Pentagon’s accounting errors are genuinely enormous, but they’re also just accounting errors — they don’t represent actual money that can be spent on something else.

You would think that if the savings are there then why do not more politicians embrace it if they are truly working for the people and not for their bank accounts?

Just a thought.

Entitlement Reform? (The GOP 2019 Song)

Some things never change……with the news of  an ever expanding deficit and the spineless GOP has the lame same idea as in the past….entitlement reform.  Pathetic pack of losers and even more so now with the King Don in the Oval Office.

With all the drama that leaks from the White House…..nothing is being said about the deficit.  Nothing is being said that the worthless tax cuts are expanding the deficit….that is until today when GOPer Sasse of Nebraska told Morning Joe that he wants to work on entitlement reform to help the deficit.

I love this crap!  The GOP will focus on deficit control after blowing it up with their massive tax cuts for rich bastards….this is a continuing story…once they, the GOP, are in the minority the deficit and entitlement reform is primary on their minds but when in majority it means little and is seldom mentioned…..these toads are all too predictable.

Finally a true GOPer…..blame the deficit on entitlements and not on their stupidity with the budget for the Pentagon or those  worthless tax cuts of 2018.

But what are these reforms that the GOP will embrace?

Paul Ryan made the TV rounds giddily hawking his plan, saying, “Do we want to get entitlement reform? Of course we do.

His intentions could hardly be clearer, but there are still people out there worried about stating this fact too openly. Earlier this month, Maya MacGuineas, president of the non-profit Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

“Gutting,” of course, is exactly what Republicans mean when they talk about “reforming” “entitlement” programs. But MacGuineas was correct to point out the many politically loaded words partisans throw around when talking about programs that benefit poor Americans (with “reform” being high up on that list.)

https://splinternews.com/what-we-really-mean-when-we-talk-about-entitlement-refo-1821222884

Let’s look at the most recent news about the deficit…….

The federal budget deficit has surged to $779 billion in fiscal 2018, its highest level in six years as President Trump’s tax cuts caused the government to borrow more heavily in order to cover its spending. The Treasury Department said Monday that the deficit climbed $113 billion from fiscal 2017, the AP reports. Debt will likely worsen in the coming years with the Trump administration expecting the deficit to top $1 trillion in 2019, nearly matching the $1.1 trillion imbalance from 2012. The deficit worsened because tax revenues are not keeping pace with government spending. The government’s fiscal year runs from October to September, unlike calendar years that begin in January. Tax revenues were essentially flat in fiscal 2018, while spending increased 3.2% as Congress gave more funds for military and domestic programs.

Revenues generally tumbled after December when Trump signed into law $1.5 trillion of tax cuts over the next decade. The tax cuts have caused economic growth to accelerate this year with Federal Reserve officials anticipating gains of 3.1%. But the Trump administration initially promised that the tax cuts would pay for themselves through stronger growth—and there is no sign so far of that happening. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin suggested in a statement that the underlying source of the widening deficit was growth in government spending, rather than the tax cuts. “Going forward the President’s economic policies that have stimulated strong economic growth, combined with proposals to cut wasteful spending, will lead America toward a sustainable financial path,” Mnuchin said. But William Gale, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, noted that the tax cuts are unlikely to generate a long-term bump in economic growth

The deficit is Ryan’s biggest nightmare….which in itself is a self inflicted wound…..because of the GOPs policies the deficit expands…..

Rep. Paul Ryan said one of the biggest disappointments from his term as House speaker was his inability to address the growing mountain of federal debt.

“On healthcare itself and debt and deficits, it’s the one that got away,” Ryan said at a Washington Post event.

As speaker, Ryan helped oversee a rise in spending that is already adding to the deficit. Under his tenure, the amount of outstanding federal debt grew by just over $2 trillion, and the federal deficit expanded from $438 billion in the 2015 fiscal year to $779 billion in the 2018 fiscal year.

https://www.businessinsider.com/paul-ryan-federal-debt-deficit-gop-tax-law-2018-11

2019 will bring the GOP chest thumping about the deficit…..any person that watches our system at work can see just how hypocritical the GOP is…always…..

It gets humorous at the attacks on the people of the US as the cause of the deficit soaring……the truth (no GOPer wants to hear that)….is their massive budget increases for the Pentagon and then those worthless tax cuts of 2018 have done more than any entitlement program.

Of course the GOP will say that Dems hate the Pentagon and the military and that they do not want Americans to have more money……THEY ARE LIES!

The honest approach would be to have all income including bonuses pay into the system….and that taxes be paid according to income…..those are simple fixes that will go NO where.

For those that want to debate entitlement reform……this is a collection of cards that can be printed and used as a reference….

It’s Veterans Again!

Closing Thought–18Jul18

I have said and witnessed just how little our politicians care about our veterans……basically they, veterans, are nothing more than a political prop…the true concern evaporates when the cameras fall silent.

Our Dear Leader has just signed a veterans bill……

Trump’s habit of exploiting our military and veterans is exceeded only by his talent for letting them down, as his recent actions regarding the so-called “VA Mission Act” demonstrate.

Last Wednesday, Trump signed the bill into law during an elaborately staged ceremony in the Rose Garden at the White House. But hours after the cameras were shut off and the cast of grateful vets and politicians had dispersed, Trump began working against the law he had just signed.

The night of the bill signing, Trump quietly released a statement objecting to three oversight provisions of the law, saying he would not treat them as mandatory. Several veterans’ groups expressed concern about the statement.

Trump’s White House also circulated a memo to Congress objecting to a Senate plan to pay for the Mission Act, arguing the law ought to be funded by spending cuts to other programs.

“It’s just like Donald Trump to sign a deal, and then not pay for it,” said Will Fischer, Iraq war veteran and director of government relations for VoteVets, in a statement to Shareblue Media. “So, as he’s done many times in his life, Donald Trump has made a big production, but when it comes to paying, he’s going to leave us high and dry.”

Trump’s concern for veterans runs about as deep as last Wednesday’s photo op. When the cameras are off, Trump shows the true colors of a leader who has consistently disrespected our bravest and lets them down at every turn.

(shareblue.com)

The Trump administration demanded that lawmakers fund a popular veterans’ health-care program — which allows former troops to spend public funds on private doctors and hospitals — with cuts to other parts of the budget. Democrats, and some top Senate Republicans, prefer to raise the current caps on discretionary spending instead.

I have called for a new “Bonus Army”……the vets need to come together and show the nation that they deserve all the benefits that have been promised for years that always seem to fall flat in application.

To not fund these programs is a disrespect of the men and women that have done their duty toward their country while the rest of us have done little to nothing.

As a veteran I have watched painfully as veterans get the shaft with every administration and every president that prays on the veterans like a predator……again….time for another Bonus Army (look it up, do something for yourself)

“Freeloading” Immigrants

How many times have you heard some idiot like O’Reilly or Hannity go on and on about all those “illegals” that are living off food stamps and other “freebies”?

You know those people that do nothing and get all those food stamps?  My first question is if they are getting all this stuff for free then why are they stealing jobs?  Why work if you don’t have to?

Any way it is all so much chin waging…….

Food banks across the country have been noticing a trend since President Donald Trump was inaugurated in January.

In recent weeks, outlets including the Washington Post, The Nationand NPR have reported that outreach workers and enrollment assistants who help eligible immigrants enroll in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, say immigrants are canceling their benefits because they fear their participation could flag them for deportation.

Such fears appear to stem primarily from a leaked draft of an executive order saying immigrants living in the United States could be deported if it is determined they rely on some form of public assistance — like food stamps.

Source: What We Get Wrong When We Talk About Food Stamps And Immigrants | The Huffington Post

Most of the so-called “news” that some sites throw out at the reader is just disguised bigotry or prejudice or just plain hatred….

in my area I have seen no so-called immigrants use food stamps in the stores I visit and there is a large population here and when my better half was having her problems after cancer treatments I spent many hours in ERs and at no time did I see a immigrant waiting for free care….but my area may be an anomaly….I doubt it…but it could be.

Why not come out and say what you really want to say about those dark skinned people invade your country?

Why hide behind bullshit?

Closing Thought–11Jan17

It’s all those damn “welfare queens”……..

Has anyone noticed that the dullards on the Right have not moved past the Reagan years?  35 years after the “Great Ronnie” and they still hate anyone that needs food stamps or help surviving.

And they are still pushing their “patriotic” stuff about the military….they worship those vets and will thank them for their service whenever the cameras are on.  But basically that is as far as the “patriotic” theme goes.

So my question is…..how do they feel about soldiers families that cannot survive without assistance like food stamps?  Are these people as worthless as the Ronnie “welfare queens”?

25 percent of the nation’s total active duty and reserve personnel – that are seeking aid from food pantries and other charitable programs across the country, according to a rare inquiry about the food insecurity of troops and veterans conducted by Feeding America, a hunger relief charity, that will be released Monday. Another 2.37 million households including veterans receive assistance from food pantries that are part of Feeding America’s network (this figure doesn’t include households where both a former and current service member reside).

The help is sought for various reasons, experts say: For active duty, pressures include low pay, poor financial planning by junior soldiers, the difficulty for spouses to hold steady jobs amid base transfers and deployments, and the higher costs of living in some states.

Now that we have a new “ruler”, a Congress dominated by the GOP I am sure that food stamps will be in the firing line…along with Obamacare….

Basically, who cares about those damn soldiers and their families?  They should have made better choices with their lives, right?  (Hopefully you realize that that statement was sarcasm)

To be fair (something not known on the Right) there have been reports that our newly elected prez will do something about the military pay….what that is is anyone’s guess….but hopefully he will do the right thing for the troops and their families.

Relying on Millions of Dollars in Food Stamps

How many times have you read something by the nose picking bunch on the Right that makes you feel dirty?  Well….most of it……..

Mostly they go on and on about all those people that are looking for hand-outs…all the freebies the government has to offer….it really gets their goat when a poor family needs food stamps just to feed their children….and of course they say if they weren’t so damn lazy then they would have a good job and not need any government help….ever read this ranting crap?

Remember an attack on one is an attack on all…….

I cannot wait to hear what moronic excuse they have for not showing any interest in this story….

The Department of Defense has shown little concern about food security among active-duty military personnel.

Military service members on active duty spent $24 million in food stamps at military commissary shops from September 2014 to August 2015, and 45 percent of students in schools run by the military are eligible for free or reduced-price meal programs.

For years, the military has been embarrassed by reports showing that some active-duty service members struggle to feed their families and use government benefits to get by. A recent report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that the Department of Defense (DoD) does not fully understand the scope of the problem.

Source: US Soldiers Are Relying on Millions of Dollars in Food Stamps to Survive

Well what does the “Patriotic Right” have to say about this?

I realize that the troops are only important at rally times or during some holiday in their honor…..

We ask out troops to “defend” this country with their lives and yet we cannot see that their families do not have to depend on food stamps to feed their children…..kinda pathetic.

But what can you expect from a country where 98% has no idea what it means to serve?

Our troops and vets deserve so much more than this country is willing to give them and yet their fate depends on the cowards that hide behind them….the American way!

Troubling News For Veterans

My last post of the day is about veterans and veterans issues…….first the sad news that a vet has set himself on fire at a VA Clinic…..

Ingram, a seven-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, arrived at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic around 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 19. He had been there before for treatment, but this would be his last visit.

The 51-year-old walked nine miles from his home in Egg Harbor, past an American Legion park and a memorial dedicated to military veterans, before finally stopping a few yards short of the clinic parking lot curb. Once there, he doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire.

Were situations so bad for this vet that his only option was to set himself on fire?  If so, what does that say about us and our lack of concern for our vets?

I have been ranting tirelessly about the shoddy treatment that our vets receive….I also do not believe that vets should have to beg for the services that they deserve….then there are these charities like Wounded Warrior Project as well as many others…..

Yes they do good work and yes they should NOT be necessary….after all we send our troops into combat and then we turn our backs on them…..while we pretend they are the most important issue of the day…they are NOT!  They should be but this country has more important stuff to champion like some ramblings from some pathetic loser that wants our vote.

But back to the charities that we all see on the TV and many of us try to support because they do good things for our vets, right?

I was researching a few things the other day and I saw this investigation from 2014 from an Austin, Texas channel….

KXAN uncovered millions of dollars donated to a variety of veterans charities mostly going in the pockets of fundraisers.

Source: 84% of donations never reach veterans | KXAN.com

Granted this was 3 years ago and maybe things have changed over those few years….but I am guessing not…..since I read a report about 6 months ago about the cash that was pissed away by Wounded Warriors Project……

Do you know how pathetic it is to know that our vets are used to make money for individuals?

But I guess it is more pathetic at the inaction of the Congress to see that our wounded vets are cared for….after all we made them in the condition they suffer from…..WE OWE THEM!

Today we celebrate Vietnam Veterans Day & pay tribute to those who served & gave their life for our country.

Without Government Safety Net Programs, Millions More Would Be in Poverty | Economic Policy Institute

Every election time we will hear all about those damn people that get government benefits…..you know the ones that get “free stuff”…..

I am one who does not buy into the hate speech of people in poverty that may need assistance……but every election someone on the Right, mostly TPers or GOPers, will set off trying to demonize those people that need help……

Sorry but the rich people are the ones raping the country not the poor……

But read this research piece on those damn entitlements that you hate so much……

In 2014, 48.4 million people (or 15.3 percent of the US population) were in poverty, as measured by the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM)—a more sophisticated approach for measuring economic well-being than the official federal poverty line. However, that number would have been significantly higher were it not for government safety-net programs.
