72 years ago today the Allies opened up their second front against the Nazi war machine…..D-Day….and it was the beginning of the end of Nazi Germany….

Probably the last legitimate war the US would participate in…
Take a moment and remember those that gave their all to save the world from a mad man….

Apparently there are not many left behind that remember the sacrifices made and the destruction that was wrought on the world……
Truly sad how quickly we forget……
My Father was a Vet and although he didn’t give his all, he gave some of each leg to shrapnel and gangrene. I always think of him on D.Day because he always reviewed his life on this day. We wanted to bury him on this day but we had to take Flag Day instead. Still very appropriate. dru
I won’t argue WWII was the last ‘legitimate’ war we’ve engaged in; it WAS the last time Congress actually declared war, as the Constitution requires; I still hesitate to call any war legitimate, as there was always another way to cope that wasn’t chosen. But, that’s neither here, nor there now. My father was in WWII, in the Pacific theater, though he wouldn’t talk of it at all, beyond terse answers to specific questions. It was clear to us, though he fought, and did his duty, he was not at all sure it was the right thing to do in the final analysis, and never put any pressure on us to do anything but educate ourselves as our patriotic duty, so we could make up our own minds about what the government did….
I would think all veterans of combat would have his, and, I believe, your attitude of war, that it is, at its core, wrong; I know he did… If we celebrate anything of war, let it be the celebration of its end….
gigoid, the dubious
Ending war is never glamorous and that is what the public wants….glamor and romance….too many games not enough real life…chuq
you have got to read the comment left…..https://lobotero.com/2016/06/06/remembering-d-day/
I truly love Sunshine patriots……)sarcasm intended) LOl chuq
Saw it; it’s always easy to spot them; the righteous indignation is a dead giveaway…. Just consider it “line noise”…
*wink*

I love those “sunshine patriots”….they always good for a laugh….chuq
Sir have you ever been a soldier? My grandfather and my father are both veterans. I don’t appreciate you criticizing my father’s “attitude of war.” He did the right thing and ENLISTED for Viet Nam not drafted. He chose to go. He by no means advocates war, quite the contrary. While the wars we fight might be questionable, the men and women who choose to be soldiers should be commended as often as possible.
Madame yes I have! 2 tours Vietnam…9th Infantry division and wounded twice…when you experience that then you may criticize..
I am NOT a sunshine patriot and that offends me. Maybe take a moment to read my comment to understand who and what I’m talking about – DAD.
