Trump And His Base

This virus has shown the public who Trump really working to help…….https://lobotero.com/2020/03/25/congress-do-we-have-a-deal/

The MSM and its pundits tell us daily during this election season that the Trump base are those voters in the Rust Belt and Middle America……I disagree.

To me everything the president has done since entering into office has been designed for his real base……billionaires.

Don’t blame the Trump presidency on the white proletariat. The real responsibility for this epically transgressive administration—headed by an individual Noam Chomsky rightly describes as “the most dangerous criminal in human history”—lies with the billionaire class.

According to a mainstream media myth long believed by intellectuals who ought to know better, Donald Trump rode into the White House on a great upsurge of support from poor, white, working-class voters drawn to the Republican candidate’s populist anti-Wall Street pitch in key deindustrialized battleground states. This conventional Rust Belt rebellion wisdom was proclaimed on the front page of the nation’s newspaper of record, The New York Times, a day after the 2016 election. The Times called Trump’s victory “a decisive demonstration of power by a largely overlooked coalition of mostly blue-collar white and working-class voters.” That same day, Times political writer Nate Cohn wrote that “Donald J. Trump won the presidency by riding an enormous wave of support among working-class whites.

This storyline — repeated ad nauseam and taken for granted in the mainstream media and even in much of the progressive left—is flatly contradicted by credible data. There was no mass white working-class outpouring for Trump in 2016. Slate writers Konstantin Kilibarda and Daria Roithmayr noted weeks after the election: “Donald Trump didn’t flip working-class white voters,” they wrote. “Hillary Clinton lost them. … Relative to the 2012 election, Democratic support in the key Rust Belt states [Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin] collapsed as a huge number of Democrats stayed home or (to a lesser extent) voted for a third party.”

The media owned by billionaires is telling a tale that they want the voter to believe and trust……as usual they are lying to us!

This election like most election is just a battle of corporations for control…..while the corporations get the gravy and the people get the skim at the bottom of the pie.

One last question……why does a cruise ship get cash…..they sail under foreign flags…..and they will get American cash……why?

Death total from this virus has hit 1,000…..how many more must die to protect stupid?

A Few Virus Thoughts

We hear a lot about the plan/s that are being debated in DC to save this group or that……do you know what is being said?

The GOP is trying to give corporations a ll the help they need while not too damn concerned with Main Street…..

Let’s begin with the Senate and their push for a corporate bail-out…….

Progressives on Monday renewed their demand for #AJustStimulus to mitigate the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic as the GOP continues to push a vote on a measure critics say could amount to “another corporate handout.”

“Republicans under Mitch McConnell want to turn the coronavirus rescue bill into a slush fund that Trump can use for corporate handouts, and we have to stop them,” advocacy group People’s Action said in letter to supporters Monday morning.

The legislation in question is the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES. Democrats late Sunday successfully blocked the bill from moving forward, as Common Dreams reported.

“We voted no on the McConnell-GOP bill because among other problems it includes huge bailouts without protections for people and workers and without accountability, and because it shortchanges our hospitals and healthcare workers who need our help,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)  “These changes need to be made.”

Some would have us believe that Dems were holding it up and punishing the people….that is a lie.

Despite urgent demands from public health experts, frontline nurses and doctors, and Democratic lawmakers that President Donald Trump urgently utilize his authority under the Defense Production Act to order private companies to produce critically needed medical equipment to help stop the coronavirus crisis ravaging the nation, the president on Sunday explained that to do so would be akin to “nationalization” of industries and “socialism”—a claim he made even while suggesting that a taxpayer bailout of his personal hotel empire might be necessary.

“We’re a country not based on nationalizing our business,” Trump said at Sunday evening press conference when asked about his reluctance to more aggressively utilize the DPA, which he officially invoked last week. “Call a person over in Venezuela,” the president continued, “ask them how did nationalization of their businesses work out? Not too well.”

Games as usual……

Now for some of the more STUPID among us when it comes to this virus…….

These are times in which we may all have to make some sacrifices, but in the Texas lieutenant governor’s mind, senior citizens in the US should be ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. NBC News reports that Dan Patrick appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show Monday night, not long after a presser in which President Trump signaled he wants businesses reopened sooner rather than later—which would flout the advice of health experts, per CBS DFW. The 69-year-old grandfather of six agrees with Trump, and apparently thinks older Americans should be OK with risking their lives in this effort. “No one reached out to me and said, ‘As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren?'” he said to Carlson. “If that’s the exchange, I’m all in.”

Patrick added: “Let’s get back to work. Let’s get back to living. … Those of us who are 70-plus, we’ll take care of ourselves. But don’t sacrifice the country.” Tucker double-checked that he was understanding Patrick correctly, asking: “You’re basically saying that this disease could take your life but that’s not the scariest thing to you? There’s something that would be worse than dying?” Patrick’s reply: “Yeah. If I get sick, I’ll go and try to get better, but if I don’t, I don’t.” CBS News notes the immediate backlash that came Patrick’s way, with the terms “death panel” and “Logan’s Run” (a movie in which anyone over 30 is eliminated) getting a lot of traction. “I’m 73, pretty active, and I’m not willing to sacrifice myself for the economy,” one commenter noted on Twitter. From another: “Sacrificing the elderly on the altar of the economy? This Texan will vote for someone with a moral compass next time.”

This one just makes one ask….SERIOUSLY?

And I hear the idiot of the Right Glen Beck echoes the feeling of the Lt. Gov…..

On Tuesday, right-wing shock jock Glenn Beck followed Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s lead, and suggested that older people should risk their lives and potentially expose themselves to coronavirus for the sake of the economy.

“I sincerely hope that we are not at a place, as Americans, where we are going to let the Democrats jam down the Green New Deal because we’re at home panicked,” said Beck. “I want to have a frank conversation with you and ask you where you stand. I mean, I’m in the danger zone. I’m right at the edge, I’m 56. In Italy they’re saying if you’re sick and your 60, don’t even come in. So I’m in the danger zone.”

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/03/id-rather-die-glenn-beck-joins-the-gop-call-for-old-people-to-sacrifice-themselves/

I could add something truly disgusting about Beck….but I will save that for others.

President Trump warned that the number of suicides could increase if he does not lift restrictions due to the coronavirus on daily life.

His administration is mulling whether to lift social distancing measures at the end of a 15-day period, and he has repeatedly said that the “cure should not be worse than the problem.”

Against All Advice

Most of the wrong info that the public is given has come from the mouth of the Donald of Orange in his daily briefings.

Like all can get a test….wrong there are NOT enough test kits……this virus will be gone by April……wrong again…….

New polling shows public trust is eroding regarding the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, as news outlets attempt to catalogue President Donald Trump’s lies about the crisis.

Yahoo! News and YouGov surveyed 1,635 adults across the country this week, finding that 53% of Americans do not trust the president to tell the truth about the virus, officially known as COVID-19.

Seventy-nine percent of Democrats surveyed said they agreed that Trump can’t be trusted, while just 16% of Republicans agreed.

The poll revealed lopsided levels of trust along partisan lines, with 79% of Democrats saying they believe Trump is lying to the U.S. public about the crisis and just 16% of Republicans reporting the same.

He tries to sideline Dr. Fauci and Birx and continues to go against the best advice from medical professionals……..

President Trump said Monday that he wants to reopen the country for business in weeks, not months, and he claimed, without evidence, that continued closures could result in more deaths than the coronavirus pandemic. “We can’t have the cure be worse than the problem,” Trump told reporters at a press briefing, echoing a midnight Sunday tweet. “We have to open our country because that causes problems that, in my opinion, could be far bigger problems.” Trump acknowledged there were trade-offs, “there’s no question about that,” but claimed that, if closures stretch on for months, there would be “probably more death from that than anything that we’re talking about with respect to the virus.” The comments were further evidence that Trump has grown impatient with the pandemic, reports the AP, even before it has reached its expected peak.

“I’m not looking at months, I can tell you right now,” Trump said Monday, adding that America will soon be back open for business. He said, though, that states could continue to enforce stricter measures. In recent days, tensions have been rising between those who argue the country needs to get back up and running to prevent a deep economic depression, and medical experts who warn that, unless more extreme action is taken, the human cost will be catastrophic. “We can’t shut in the economy. The economic cost to individuals is just too great,” Larry Kudlow, Trump’s top economic adviser, said in an interview Monday on Fox News Channel. “The president is right. The cure can’t be worse than the disease, and we’re going to have to make some difficult trade-offs.”

This “man” is protecting the corporations and their cash….he cares NOTHING for the peons like you and me…..proof is his total moronic babblings about getting the country back to work….

President Trump has put a date on his desire to have the US running at normal speed: Easter, which is a little less three weeks away. Trump made the comments at the White House while participating in a virtual town hall for Fox News, reports CNBC. “We’re opening up this incredible country,” he said. “Because we have to do that. I would love to have it open by Easter.” Trump has said in recent days he’s worried that a prolonged shutdown would cause more damage to the US than the coronavirus itself. Critics fear that easing up on travel restrictions will worsen the pandemic in the US, but Trump argued the alternative is worse. “We’re going to lose more people by putting a country into a massive recession or depression,” he said. “The other people, you’re going to have suicide by the thousands, you’re going to have all sorts of things happen.”

Easter this year falls on April 12. “I would love to have that,” said Trump. “It’s such an important day for other reasons, but I’d love to make it an important day for this. I would love to have the country opened up, and rarin’ to go by Easter.” Earlier this month, Trump laid out a 15-day plan to slow the spread of the virus, and that period ends on March 30. “We’ll assess at that time,” said Trump, per the Washington Post. His comments come amid a continued rise in cases. Earlier Tuesday, the World Health Organization warned that the US is poised to become the new “epicenter” of the pandemic, reports Reuters. In the last 24 hours, 40% of the world’s new cases came from the US, says a WHO spokesperson. The current US total is just shy of 50,000, per the New York Times. The US death toll is 615.

Every presser that he strolls out and lies does nothing to save the markets and is nailing is defeat in November down.

Thoughts about what all this early return to work is all about…..

  • Trump’s view: The president’s mantra is that he doesn’t want the cure to be worse than the ailment. “Trump and a chorus of conservative voices have begun to suggest that the shock to the economy could hurt the country more than deaths from the virus,” per the New York Times.
  • Echoing that: Former Goldman Sachs chief Lloyd Blankfein is in Trump’s camp here. “Extreme measures to flatten the virus ‘curve’ is sensible—for a time—to stretch out the strain on health infrastructure,” he tweets. “But crushing the economy, jobs and morale is also a health issue-and beyond. Within a very few weeks let those with a lower risk to the disease return to work.”
  • Opposing view: No, no, no, argues Jordan Weissmann at Slate. “This is an extremely dangerous line of thinking, and not just because it will likely lead to more casualties,” he writes. “Encouraging Americans back to work before the virus is contained will not save the economy from catastrophe. Rather, it will set the country up to limp along, half-functioning as the pandemic spreads further.” It’s the worst of both worlds, he fears. Instead, he advocates a national lockdown for at least three weeks.
  • Phased return: Any return to normalcy would likely be phased in once the 15-day period Trump initially laid out ends on March 30. For example, the elderly or those with underlying health issues could be asked to remain in isolation, while healthier people would be encouraged to return to work. The guidelines could vary geographically, per CNN. More specifically, the White House could lift federal guidelines but allow states to act on their own.
  • Quarantine lite: At the Week, Joel Mathis thinks a “quasi-quarantine”—somewhere in the middle of the two opposing camps—is in our future. In reality, “shelter in place” orders can’t last too long, he writes. But “it is still possible to maintain some level of social distancing and other healthy practices under such circumstances,” he adds, citing a friend’s Shanghai photos of a rooftop dinner party in which everyone was wearing safety masks.
  • Key advisers: “Remember that Trump has no public health professionals in his circle of informal advisers,” writes Jonathan Swan at Axios. “Those are not his go-to calls when he’s in the residence late at night. They’re all business or media folks.”
  • 2 voices: Reaction to the idea isn’t breaking down the way you might expect. Trump supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham, for example, tweeted that Trump should listen to health experts, not economic ones. “There is no functioning economy unless we control the virus,” he warned. But New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a frequent Trump critic, sounded closer to Trump’s line of thinking. “You can’t stop the economy forever,” he said Monday. “So we have to start to think about does everyone stay out of work? Should young people go back to work sooner? Can we test for those who had the virus, resolved, and are now immune and can they start to go back to work?”

We should be very afraid of this man as much as this virus…..

A Virus WTF!

After watching our fearless leader drag his feet on a response to the virus and his false and misleading statements he has gone so far to offer to help North Korea fight the virus.

Yes you heard that right….Trump offers to help Kim with the virus.

President Trump wrote a letter to North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, praising him for his efforts to protect the country from coronavirus, and offering US help in combating any outbreak. North Korea confirmed the letter but didn’t say what they’d done beyond that.

Administration officials also confirmed the letter, saying it was in keeping with Trump’s effort to engage world leaders on the coronavirus and offer US assistance if they needed it. Such offers did not, it seems, apply to Iran, where US officials declared that coronavirus “wouldn’t save them.”

How seriously the coronavirus has hit North Korea is the subject of some speculation, though the nation has denied any huge outbreaks. If they did have an outbreak, however, it’s not clear they’d have access to the equipment to treat many patients.

North Korea’s main interest would be getting some sanctions eased, and that might be done in the name of humanitarian aid for the virus.

Do not get me wrong I am NOT against helping others wit thus thing….but not before you have done everything possible for the people that put him in office.

Trump Nixes The DPA

Recently there has been news about the Defense Production Act and its use to fill the void of much needed medical supplies……I helped my readers get on the right page……https://lobotero.com/2020/03/21/what-is-the-defense-protection-act/

Personally, it is a great idea…..gear up the production for much needed supplies….but it appears the the president does not want that to happen…..

President Trump on Sunday rejected calls from governors, hospitals and others to direct companies to ramp up production of critical supplies for the coronavirus fight through the use of the Defense Production Act.

Trump argued that he has used the Defense Production Act (DPA) as leverage in negotiations with companies to get them to produce supplies and equipment for the coronavirus fight.

He also argued against nationalizing industries, though that is not something that would be done through the use of the DPA.

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/488938-trump-rejects-calls-to-directly-use-defense-production-act

The news is dire from Italy where about 1400 people died over the weekend and there are predictions that the US is about 10 days behind where Italy is…..and yet the president is still trying to look business and takes victory laps for nothing in particular.

To me Trump looks as out of touch as anyone can be……he still seems to believe that all will return to “normal” in due time.

In this time of dire need……the country needs leadership not some kick the can down the road bullshit…….

President Trump says the US will reevaluate its coronavirus strategy at the end of the month to determine “which way we want to go.” In an all-caps tweet, he wrote: “We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself,” without elaborating, reports Reuters. It could be a nod to the sentiment expressed late last week by the conservative editorial board of the Wall Street Journal. The board argued that while an initial shutdown of about two weeks is wise and necessary, a longer break would be catastrophic for US businesses and their employees. “That should be the moment, if not sooner, to offer new guidance on what might be called phase two of the coronavirus pandemic campaign,” the editors wrote.

The 15-day period Trump is referencing began March 16 when he outlined a series of proposals to help stem the spread of the virus. Since then, states have taken initiatives of their own, and now more than 1 in 3 Americans are under stay-at-home orders, reports US News & World Report. That includes those in the states of New York, California, Illinois, Connecticut, New Jersey, Ohio, Louisiana, and Delaware, as well as in the city of Philadelphia. “At the end of the 15-day period, we will make a decision as to which way we want to go!” wrote Trump.

States are showing leadership…..but we need unity and a national leadership….that is what we elected this person to do and he is FAILING on every level.

How many Americans can die in that 15 day period?

Confidence is sinking…..for me it has sunk……

Please…..Stay calm……avoid crowds…..wash hands often…..us bloggers will pass on all info as it comes available….

That Virus Stimulus Plan

There has been a lot of talk about the plan for cash payments to help in this time of need…..direct payments to the citizens…..we know one thing for sure if anybody will get bailed out of this crisis it will be corporations and billionaires……bug it sounds good to say that the people are their number one priority……sorry but I kinda doubt that……

With an election on the fast track……..and PRESTO…the plan has been announced!

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday presented the third part of the legislation intended to help the economy recover from the pandemic, built around payments of $1,200 to anyone with an income up to $75,000. The amount of the payment would decline as household income neared $99,000. There would be a $500 check for every child in the family, the Hill reports. The direct payments, backed early by Sen. Mitt Romney and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, are not universally popular among Senate Republicans. “Direct payments make sense when the economy is beginning to start,” Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday. “It makes no sense now, because it’s just money. What I want is income, not one check.” Lawmakers are still negotiating the details of the payments, though as of now, the poorest Americans would receive less, per the Washington Post, with a minimum check of $600.

Sen. Richard Shelby is among the Republicans who want to provide aid through unemployment insurance instead. “I personally think that if we are going to help people, we ought to direct the cash payments maybe as a supplement to unemployment,” he said, “not to the people that are still working every day.” President Trump has vacillated on the idea of payments to individuals, and supported a different approach Thursday on corporate bailouts. Asked about companies that have used their extra cash to buy back stock, Trump endorsed the government receiving a stake in the companies in exchange for aid. Comparing them with companies that invested the cash, Trump said, “Maybe I view that as a little bit differently than somebody that didn’t and somebody that built plants all over the United States.”

Will this abate all the panic?  I doubt it….it will however look great on a campaign ad.

Any thoughts on this?
