Once Upon A Time In Syria

Everything we see and hear about Syria is made up……McCain crosses the Turkish border into Syria to hold meetings with opposition commanders (a photo op) and the next day Kerry and others hold a peace conference to help determine the future of Syria…..but….

BEIRUT — Syria’s main Western-backed opposition group said Thursday it will not participate in U.S.-Russian sponsored peace talks on Syria while massacres are underway in the country, dealing a blow to international efforts to end the devastating civil war.

A spokesman for the Syrian National Coalition, Khalid Saleh, also said the group will not support any international peace efforts in light of Iran’s and Hezbollah’s “invasion” of Syria.

Saleh was referring to the increasingly prominent roles Iran and the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group have had in backing President Bashar Assad’s forces on the ground.

If you would like a conspiracy then ask…..did McCain’s visit to the opposition have anything to do with the apparently failure of peace talks?

McCain wants to arm the opposition with heavier armaments, but only the “good” guys who have been vetted…….vetted by whom?  Who will decide the good from the bad?  There is a folly behind the arming of the opposition…….

Nikolas Gvosdev lists the possible consequences of providing arms to insurgents in Syria. He points out that there is no way of knowing how these weapons will be used:

Indeed, America’s 1980s experiences with supplying arms to the mujahedeen in Afghanistan and the contras in Nicaragua highlight some of the problems with weapons transfers. Groups on the ground may want to horde weapons for use in internecine battles with rivals to establish their dominance after the enemy has been defeated. Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the Afghan commander who received the lion’s share of military aid from the U.S., Pakistan and Saudi Arabia during the fight against the Soviets, was notorious for his attacks against rival mujahedeen groups, especially those led by Ahmad Shah Massoud. Some of the weapons he received from the West were used, not to drive out the Soviets, but to turn parts of Kabul into smoking rubble during the 1990s when he attempted to take power for himself.

One would think that America’s largely uninspiring record of arming insurgencies in the past would eliminate any desire to try again. Something that continues to impress me about interventionist arguments on Syria is how very short-sighted they are. Most Syria hawks are not concerned with who will govern Syria or how in two or five years’ time, but are preoccupied entirely with finding some way to get the U.S. into the conflict regardless of the effects that this could have in and around Syria. If an even worse government came to power through U.S. and Western military aid, or if these weapons helped fuel another decade of civil war, the U.S. would be partly responsible for condemning Syria to even more suffering, and worst of all our government would be doing this for no good reason.

Here is a ‘what if’ for you people, you war hawks, to consider…….say we arm the opposition to the hilt and after a while the situation becomes more calm and reasonable….but then someone shoots down an airliner from Israel full of people with a LAW we provided to the opposition…..who will get the blame for that?  McCain and his war hawk buddies?  Not a chance!  It will be the NEW scandal the morons have to latch onto to keep from repairing an ailing country.

Does anyone remember Afghanistan in the 80’s?  It was awash in American arms…and they have been used against us…….Or how about Libya?  Same scenario.  And now our boy McCain is trying to repeat history…….Syria is just nothing but a quicksand bog waiting for us to step into it….and if McCain and his buddies have anything to do with it we will be up to our necks in blood ………..something that needs to be considered and stoop using the Syrian people as a political prop……..consider the dire consequences of our actions….there are plenty of examples of our poor judgement.

Those Elusive WMDs (Again)

As promised I am focusing on the doings in the Middle East this week….there is more happening than we are aware of or told by our cracker jack media……..

McCain and his echo chamber Lindsey Graham have been beating the war drum for a couple of days now……this time it is Syria and the use of chemical weapons…..of course the line they feed us is they are so concerned with the poor people of Syria, not the push for outright military action……these two and anyone who regurgitates their fecal matter are disingenuous pricks…..

Recently the news was full of the stories of the use of chemical weapons by Assad against his own people…..and McCain and his little surrogate have been making the rounds in the media puking their war crap with the hopes the American people will buy their line…..but the truth is that NO one knows for sure if or on whom they were actually used…..

White House said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was believed “with varying degrees of confidence” to have used chemical weapons and had “demonstrated a willingness to escalate its horrific use of violence” against the people of his country engaged in a two-year-old civil war.

My problem with this whole thing centers around a couple of words in the statement…….”believed” and “with various degrees of confidence”……that is doublespeak, Washington bullshit.

Obama has gone in front of the cameras and said….

“What we now have is evidence that chemical weapons have been used inside of Syria, but we don’t know how they were used, when they were used [or] who used them,”

Okay, what is the evidence?  (a question that has no answer at this time)……..sounds like all they have is someone’s word for it without much evidence……

McCain and the neocon echo chamber demand something be done but not one has an idea of what that action should be……..so someone tell me how to rid Syria of his chemical weapons……what action would be appropriate?

Here is an idea…..do NOT use bombs, drones or rockets!  The last thing the people of Syria needs is someone blowup a Sarin gas store and release it into the atmosphere…..then McCain will truly have something to rant about…….

Just once I would like to hear a solution to the problem from warhawks….other than the US needs to act and act now.  A short sighted response will surely get Americans killed and that seldom seems to be a concern of our lunatic Right…….and yet they are supported by many…makes one fear for the sanity of our politics.

Haven’t we had enough of these elusive WMDs?

2011 Anal-Ocity #22

You know there are just times when people cannot help themselves and they speak and nothing but pure crap comes out of their mouths……I always bitch about the fact that people just do not know history and yet they still try to argue from ignorance……

The BS hits the fan on the Senate floor…..there has been much talk, much debate and much emotions over whether the US should bow out of Afghanistan or stay and continue to deal with the situation as normal…..many Dems and some Repubs are for the complete withdrawal of US troops from the country and there are those, we call them hawks, that seemingly want the US to stay and fight until the goals have been reached…the problem is NO person knows what those goals are……

Recently the Senator from West Virginia made his case for the US to get out of Afghanistan and then our favorite old fart took to the floor in response….one Sen. John McCain of Arizona….

“In case the senator from West Virginia forgot it or never knew it, we withdrew from Afghanistan one time,” McCain said. “We withdrew from Afghanistan and the Taliban came, eventually followed by al-Qaida followed by attacks on the United States of America.”

Is McCain senile or is he still pissed that the American voter chose Obama over him or maybe he is just extremely uninformed or maybe he is just a bitter old man……let me explain…prior to 2001 the US had NEVER had a presence in Afghanistan….so we could not withdraw from a country we were never in…..I think that McCain was thinking of the Soviets…..they invaded the country before us….about 2 decades before we did……we did, however, discontinued our financial support once the Russians split…….

I expect more from a sitting Senator….at least do a little research before you spout your crap…..

A loyal reader, Phillip, suggested that Info Ink give McCain a Lifetime Achievement Award for the most nominations for the “Assie”….we may consider his proposal….

2011 Anal-Ocity #21

That time again…..more anal drippings from the mouths of politics…..

this time it is an old friend of Anal-Ocity, as a matter of fact he won the 2008 “Assie” Award for the most anal statement of the year….my friend and yours, Sen. John McCain of Arizona…..

Recently when interviewed about the devastating fires in his home state, he said…..

“substantial evidence that some of these fires have been caused by people who have crossed our border illegally.”

Of course the political world went “HUH”?  And he then had to do what ALL good repubs have to do…..try to explain what he meant by his statement……

“I was briefed by the Forest Service about the fact that illegal immigrants sometimes start these fires,” he said. And there has been testimony by service officials that “large numbers of warming and cooking fires built and abandoned by cross-border violators have caused wildfires that have destroyed cultural and natural resources.”

With his clarification he clouded up the waters even more……he still has not explain what was the substantial info that he had received that would indicate that they were started by border violators…..

I thought that in 2008 that he was losing it and he has done or said NOTHING that would change my opinion…he is old!  Time to go!  Somebody has got to make room for Arizona’s newest politician….Palin….

2011 Anal-Ocity #9

Yes, it is that time again…..some public official has to put his foot in his mouth….this time it is Sen. John McCain….no5t that he is immune from making an anal statement…God knows he made enough of them while running in the ’08 election….but you would think that a senior senator would be a little more careful when making a blanket statement…….

With all the turmoil in the Middle East….McCain stood up and said……

“You will not see this type of dissent coming from Iraq”……..  (it is a paraphrase but you get the idea)

It seems he believes that the forced democracy of Iraq will be immune to the civil unrest that is gripping the area……OOPS!

Journalist David Walsh reporting on the situation in Iraq…….

The wave of protest in Iraq against government corruption, unemployment and wretched public services entered a new stage Wednesday.

A protest by 2,000 people against lack of jobs and electricity in the eastern Iraqi city of Kut, some 160 kilometers south of Baghdad, turned deadly when private guards employed by the provincial government fired directly into the crowd. Reports differed as to the number of fatalities, between one and three; some 50 people were injured. One of the dead was a 16-year-old boy shot in the chest.

After the shooting outside the Wasit provincial government headquarters, the enraged crowd attacked the building, an eyewitness told the Washington Post, “as the governor escaped through a back door with his bodyguards … Footage broadcast on Iraqi television showed black smoke billowing from the headquarters as protesters clambered over walls into the compound. Other members of the provincial council also reportedly escaped, and the Iraqi army was called in to quell the turmoil.”

Once again Sen. McCain shows a serious lack of a grip on the situation…..maybe it is time that he consider retiring to the countryside and joining some lobbyist firm that deals with the Pentagon…..his judgment is seriously lacking……

The Grinich Who Stole The Senate

I have watched the US Congress very closely since the general election of 2008 and have witnessed a few things that I find interesting……for one, the extreme partisanship……the obstructionism and the all round political tap dance that has been playing out in Washington….

We watched a whole group of people held “hostage”,  for lack of a better word,  so that another class could make more money and the promise was that these rich people would create more jobs and make the economy more solvent……then we saw a group who wrapped themselves in the flag after 9/11 refusing medical aid to the 9/11 responders…….or the the health sector, especially the insurance, get millions more customers in a mandate…..or the group that bitches that programs are too expensive and not funded….push through other programs that are NOT paid for and did not use the hearing process, that they demand for other programs…..

With all that amusing stuff, the one that is most surprising is the “maverick”  John  McCain….after his loss to Obama in 2008, he has become the cranky old man of the Belt Way……his maverick days are far behind him now and his days are filled with bitterness……….

Joe Klein: “I used to know a different John McCain, the guy who proposed comprehensive immigration reform with Ted Kennedy, the guy — a conservative, to be sure, but an honorable one — who refused to indulge in the hateful strictures of his party’s extremists. His public fall has been spectacular, a consequence of politics — he ‘needed’ to be reelected — and personal pique. He’s a bitter man now, who can barely tolerate the fact that he lost to Barack Obama.”

McCain should go ahead and leave the Senate….he is NO longer a elder lawmaker…but rather a bitter old man that is holding a grudge for losing to Obama….

2010 Anal-Ocity #9

First, let me say…..HA HA HA…he said grabbing his side in pain…..

Second, In Washington there is humor and then there is f*cking hilarious…..and this is F*cking Hilarious!

The GOP is notorious, at least in the eyes of this editor, for saying the dumbest, most anal things and they are still showing they have NO idea how completely stupid they sound or look….

After the latest vote on health reform and the Prez signing it into law…..the “maverick” of the Senate, John  McCain, said:

“Democrats shouldn’t expect much cooperation from Republicans the rest of this year”

“There will be no cooperation for the rest of the year. They have poisoned the well in what they’ve done and how they’ve done it.”

Is McCain still pisssed that he did not win the election?  Or is he just whining?

Now with that said…..can someone, anyone name me one thing that the GOP has cooperated on in the past year?  What moron would believe that the Dems and the Repubs have been cooperating with each other?

Okay does this mean that the GOP in Washington will be doing NOTHING they were sent to do?  In other words they will be sucking on the government teat and giving NOTHING in return?

Oh, The Hypocrisy!

Health Reform—the song that will NOT end!  Kinda like putting “ina-da-gada-da-vida” on the turntable and go out to get laid……

I have said this for many many posts…..the GOP is full of hypocrites with NO alternatives….I know that is a bit harsh….but the major players just keep making my case for me…..they cannot help themselves…..

I will give people the reason I say this over and over and over…….

The great “Maverick” John McCain is come out of the closet against health reform of any kind, but if you go back to the 2008 campaign and his ideas on health care then you will see that it sounds similar to the Senate bill that we have now….but he cannot find any spot to compromise…..HYPOCRITE!

Now we move to Mitt Romney who has derided “Obamacare” as the lunatic Right is calling it and which by the way Mitt has jumped on that band wagon, but if you listen to the reports then the health reform bill is modeled on the Massachusetts, which was supported and passed by Mitt during his days as the governor….and oh BTW, the Mass plan covers abortions…….but there is NOTHING that he can find to support…..HYPOCRITE!

Now to my fav GOP person Sarah Palin……by now we all know what she thinks of the health reform bill…socialism, death panels, etc, etc…….she derides the health bill at every turn, trying to strengthen her position in the polls…she says that Obama’s plan will ruin American medicine…..but wait there is a bit more….the Huffington Post has found an interesting post by Sam Stein:

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — who has gone to great lengths to hype the supposed dangers of a big government takeover of American health care — admitted over the weekend that she used to get her treatment in Canada’s single-payer system.

The irony, one guesses, is that Palin now views Canada’s health care system as revolting: with its government-run administration and ‘death-panel’-like rationing. Clearly, however, she and her family once found it more alluring than, at the very least, the coverage available in rural Alaska.

One thing to add……HYPOCRITE!

And finally, we have another of my favs…..the Rush-ster, on his recent radio show he said that if the health reform bill passed, that it would be disastrous for the country and that he would move to Costa Rica (a paraphrase)……thinking…….if I am not mistaken, Costa Rica has universal health care run by the government…..HYPOCRITE!

They make way too easy for me……and for that I thank them……

Meghan, My New Crush

Anyone who has been a regular reader of Info Ink knows that I gave Sen. John McCain a really hard time during his primary run and then his presidential run.  I was a very strick and outspoken opponent to his campaign.

With all that said I would like to go on record stating that he has fathered my newest political crush, Meghan McCain.  Not only is she absolutely gorgeous she has an style that I can respect.  Normally I avoid blonds, but in this case I will make an exception to my rule.  I may not agree with her political ideology, but I will definitely agree with the way she handles her political critics.

Meghan McCain sat down with the ladies of “The View” Monday, railing against Laura Ingraham’s insult about her being “plus size,” commenting on her parents’ visit to the show last year and speaking about her father’s feeling of vindication at Obama calling some fundamentals of the economy strong.

McCain, who said she’d never even heard of Ingraham before the “plus sized” comment, called it “terrible” and added, “When Tyra Banks went on her show in a bathing suit and said ‘kiss my fat ass,’ that’s what I feel like. Kiss my fat ass!” McCain has blogged and Tweeted about the subject over the last week.

I am waiting for some insult from “Manne Coulter”, who Meghan called out recently also.

Meghan McCain’s recent criticisms of Ann Coulter as “offensive” and “radical” haven’t made her any friends among other female conservative pundits who have by turns criticized her weight and her lack of “fixed ideological principles.”

You go girl!

What Happened To The Maverick?

Think back about a decade ago, or at least it seems to be that long, to the last presidential election.  McCain was billing himself as a maverick willing to take on Washington and even his own party.  What happened?

Since that election McCain has been the picture perfect Repub and conservative.  I guess aan election loss will beat the “maverick” out of you, that is if there was ever a true maverick in there.

That maverick is long gone people!

Take a moment and think back to the campaigns, McCain had to cancel a lot of stuff and rush back to Washington for the banks were too large and important to fail.  The truth is he was not that much of a player in the original handout, but it made for good press.

What a difference an election loss makes.  Not only is the maverick a thing of the past, but now he wants some of the large banks to fail.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” echoed his colleague’s sentiment and criticized the new administration’s response to the banks. (Reuters)

“I don’t think they made the hard decision and that is to let these banks fail,” McCain told “Fox News.”

McCain also expressed dissatisfaction toward the Treasury Dept. accusing it of avoiding the “hard decision to let these banks fail.” Asked what should be done about banks, McCain said: “You’d sell off their assets and.. unfortunately, the shareholders and others will take a beating.”

So now that it will not benefit him to save the banks, it is time to fall in line with the rest of the GOP and join the obstructionists club.

Those who voted for the “maverick” should feel betrayed by this lack of integrity on his part.  If they do not…then that could explain why they voted for him…..ignorance.
