That dreaded disorder the afflicts so many of our service men and women…..well okay but this PTSD means “Peace Through Strength Doctrine”.

Trump has been pushing this slogan for over a year….it goes well with his con job of “Make America Great Again”…….but that is all it is…..a slogan and a racket…….

Donald Trump has embraced the popular “peace through strength” doctrine (PTSD) with his characteristic panache:

“I’m going to make our military so big, so powerful, so strong, that nobody – absolutely nobody – is gonna to mess with us,” Trump says. On other occasions he’s said similar things: “We want to defer, avoid and prevent conflict through our unquestioned military strength” (same link) and, a year ago, “Nobody is going to mess with us. Nobody. It will be one of the greatest military buildups in American history.”

I will acknowledge that the PTSD has surface appeal. Why not show the world the United States is so awesomely powerful that no one in his right mind would even think to get on its wrong side? It seems to make sense in a practical sort of way.

Make war to preserve the peace……another silly slogan.

Like I say slogans to try and get the approval of the people….make them think there is a threat and they then will accept massive spending on weapons and ordinance that we do not need for their protection.

  1. Slogans never solved anything. In fact, many became associated with the worst things ever, like ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’, and ‘Strength Through Joy’. More lessons to learn from history.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Arbeit Macht Frei…Deutschland über alles….Those slogans always get my nipples rock hard. Sorry, it’s my German DNA at work.

But I do think “Strength Through Joy” gets a bit of a bad rap. I know it’s un-American, but what’s so bad about promoting healthy eating & physical fitness? Other than a couple of subtle Swastikas the newsreel commentator says this 1938 parade is just a “gay procession” moving through the wide streets of Hamburg. There’s even an English delegation.

  2. We need to update our nukes so we can carry our ability to destroy the world many times over into the next century. Who are we even targeting these days?

Many decades ago I came up with a movie plot… the best kept secret in the world is that the original Manhattan Project Los Alamos scientists, fearing the use of their invention let loose upon the world, devised “production model” nuclear warheads for missile use on land and sea, including cruise missiles…. with nuclear “looking” devices that would simply explode conventionally if used. A variant of that could also be that by default the nukes would explode conventionally, unless some internal “switch”.. a kind of “Yield Mode” (conventional/non-conventional.. or nuke/non-nuke) selection that could be switched prior to launch only by the president… or by some deep state modern day Knights Templar (conservatives would like that one since they already think liberals are doing that.).

  3. Kind of reminds me of “Mutually Assured Destruction” during the Kennedy years — a most effective concept that acted as a forceful and effective deterrent for most of the cold war.
