Don’t be fooled by claims that TPP would create jobs

Last year the country was told that the new trade agreement, the TPP, would bring the light of prosperity to the nation…..that angels would descend and bless the country with wealth and riches for all…..

It was such a good deal that it was held secret from everyone until the thing was signed…..that is how good this thing will be for all of us peasants……

Guess what?  It was B*LLSHIT!

The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a massive “free trade” agreement with 11 Pacific Rim nations. Recently signed, it cannot go into effect unless Congress approves. The pact would make it easier for corporations to offshore more American jobs and push down our wages. It would give big drug firms new rights to raise medicine prices, and it would flood us with unsafe imported food.

The Obama administration received a four-Pinocchio rating from The Washington Post when it claimed that the TPP would help support 650,000 jobs nationwide. California already has lost more than 417,000 manufacturing jobs since the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA. And it’s not just manufacturing jobs. California’s $403 million trade surplus with NAFTA nations flipped to a $187 million deficit after the pact.

Oh goody….another NAFTA-esque piece of crap that will finish the destruction of the middle class….after all NAFTA created an illegal immigration problem and a further decline of the middle class….

Feel better now?

  1. It seems there were many U.S. citizens who knew it wouldn’t work and would be a detriment to our economy – citing NAFTA – but they went along with it anyway. We are are own worst enemies through sheer ignorance. Ignorance genetically from birth, but ignorance because of turning away from what is happening all around us, during our lives. It is frustrating to no end, to see the mistakes of decades past being repeated in the decades of the future. Politics, politics. No change seen in our future.

  2. Jobs for who? Lawyers, accountants and Asian kids willing to work for $0.25 a day, maybe.

Actually, it will mean some transportation jobs as the average distance a product travels to reach North American shelves continues to skyrocket. Luckily that won’t worsen Climate Change, or our expensive & decaying infrastructure (sarcasm). But those transportation jobs won’t nearly offset the number, or wage level, of the jobs TPP will cost.

Then again, driverless 18-Wheelers will soon be zooming down a highway near/over you!

      1. With all the offshoring, automation, Internet sales & big box stores with 1 employee per acre…manufacturing is all but gone and even service sector jobs are on the way out. And 10 years from now, White Collar jobs will be the “new Blue Collar jobs”, disappearing as fast as the polar ice caps.

There just will not be that many jobs left in 25 years. Just the idle-rich investors living in guarded mansions and huge swaths of people living in the kind of shantytowns you see in India.

      2. What, you got 6 months to live? Cause this shit is happening now (ie driverless vehicles are about to be legal in my jurisdiction). It just won’t be fully accomplished for 20-25 years, TPP is just shifting things to a higher gear.
