The Kennedy Years

These years the US was not deeply involved in the Greater Middle East…..it was involved in the events of Israel…..

John Kennedy was supposedly uninvolved in the Middle East. But as Warren Bass argued in “Support Any Friend: Kennedy’s Middle East and the Making of the U.S.-Israel Alliance,” John Kennedy tried to develop a special relationship with Israel while diffusing the effects of his predecessors’ cold war policies regarding Arab regimes.

Kennedy increased economic aid toward the region and worked to reduce its polarization between Soviet and American spheres. While the friendship with Israel was solidified during his tenure, Kennedy’s abbreviated administration, while briefly inspiring the Arab public, largely failed to mollify Arab leaders.

Basically it can be argued that the Kennedy years was the beginning of the long economic relationship the US has with Israel and the beginnings of the problems with a solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Kennedy died before he could have much of a legacy in the Middle East….he was more involved with USSR, Cuba, Vietnam and to a lesser extent China….

Johnson years

With the death of JFK….Lyndon Johnson became president in 1963…….

Lyndon Johnson was absorbed by his Great Society programs at home and the Vietnam War abroad. The Middle East burst back onto the American foreign-policy radar with the Six Day War of 1967, when Israel, after rising tension and threats from all sides, preempted what it characterized as an impending attack from Egypt, Syria and Jordan.

Israel occupied the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, the West Bank and Syria’s Golan Heights. Israel threatened to go further. The Soviet Union threatened armed attack if it did. Johnson put the U.S. Navy’s Mediterranean Sixth Fleet on alert, but also compelled Israel to agree to a cease-fire on June 10, 1967.

During this “war” Israeli forces attacked a US flag ship, the USS Liberty

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

I have been telling my readers that the MSM does not and will not accurately report the news coming out of the dispute between the Palestinians/Israelis…..in the last war on Gaza a NBC reporter on the ground reported that the Israelis killed a group of Palestinians playing football on the beach…..he was taken off the air and given some time off…..as punishment for reporting the truth?…..

For instance….there has been very few reports on the Jewish settlers that are attacking, destroying and vandalizing Christian churches and property…..why?

Just today there was a report of more land seizures by the Israelis……

Israel confirmed on Thursday it was planning to appropriate a large tract of fertile land in the occupied West Bank, close to Jordan, a move likely to exacerbate tensions with Western allies and already drawing international condemnation.

In an email sent to Reuters, COGAT, a unit of Israel’s Defense Ministry, said the political decision to seize the territory had already been taken and “the lands are in the final stages of being declared state lands”.

How many of you, my readers, would settle for a government ceasing your land and/or property?  My guess would be….not many……and yet we all look the other way because Israel does this…..why is that?

Then there are the deaths of protesters…….the west seldom mentions the Palestinians but make it a point to report almost every Israeli deaths or injury….

This type of action is an almost daily occurrence…..why is land theft not important enough to report?  Or the deaths?

Like I said…..I have been screaming this as much as I could hoping to get someone to listen……and finally there is a report confirming all I have said……

Foreign journalists based in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv have for years refused to report on the financial corruption and human rights violations that are rife under the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas regimes. Palestinian “suffering” and the “evil” of……..READ ON…….

Are You An “Apologist”?

An op-ed I wrote for Ace News Room…../after years of writing my opinions I have been called many things….but the one that has irritated me the most is when some mindless drone calls me an “apologist”…..below op-ed  is my thoughts on the use of the term……

BTW, if you are a news junkie then I suggest that you visit Ace News Room….an excellent source of worldwide news…..you will not be disappointed……

Bernie? How Will You Pay For Health Care?

At the last Dem debate there was a wealth of talking points but the one that got my attention was the health care debate…..Clinton attacked and Bernie countered…..but the media made a big deal out of Bernie’s plan for Medicare for everyone……it has gone on to the point of absurdity…..

I have tried to talk on this subject but I am no expert on health care…..unlike many detractors I will admit that I do not have the answer….but I believe that I found a piece that could explain Bernie’s plan……both good and bad (mostly bad because that is what will sell)…….

Bernie Sanders unveiled a single-payer health care plan just before Sunday night’s debate that he calls “Medicare for All.” He lays it out here, declaring that it’s about time health care becomes a guarantee for all Americans, “not a privilege.” Some related reading:

  • The International Business Times digs into the finances, including the tax hikes that would pay for the $1.4 trillion annual cost: a 2.2% income tax on all Americans, a 6.2% tax on employers, and progressively heavier income-tax rates on the wealthy (from 37% for those with annual income between $250,000 and $500,000 to 52% on households north of $10 million a year).
  • CNN has a tangible example for the middle class: “A family of four making $50,000 would pay $466 in new taxes.”
  • Sanders makes the case to Time that it would save people money on health care costs in the long run.
  • The Clinton campaign is skeptical of the numbers, and Hillary Clinton herself took issue with the plan in the debate, reports Politico. Democrats should build on ObamaCare, not “tear it up and start over,” she said.
  • A post at the liberal Daily Kos thinks Clinton’s criticism could be politically costly: “It will tie into the narrative of Hillary Clinton being owned by the corporatocracy.”
  • The Wall Street Journal notes that Sanders envisions it being administered by the federal government, not the states.
  • At Vox, Ezra Klein says what Sanders released isn’t actually a plan. “It is, to be generous, a gesture towards a future plan. To be less generous—but perhaps more accurate—this is a document that lets Sanders say he has a plan, but doesn’t answer the most important questions about how his plan would work, or what it would mean for most Americans.”

Personally, I like the idea of single payer…….of course it is not going to make the insurance or big pharma happy…….they will work hard to be sure that it never happens……and the media will also play a major role at not letting Americans have adequate health care…..after all a lot of money has been spent to buy these people and they are calling in their markers already…….

Watch for the politicians and then the media and you will learn which are in the pockets of the fat cats of the health care industry……

Name calling will not solve our problems……but searching for a candidate that best reflects your concerns and then vote for the person that has the best ideas….there is your answer.

A Bernie Homie……..

You Won’t Like It, But Here’s the Answer to ISIS | Alternet

I have been very vocal on my opinion concerning this war we have going on with ISIS……I have very critical of any and all supposed plans that the Obama admin has offered as a solution to the problem of these barbaric toads…..

At one point I said that it is quite possible that ISIS will collapse under its own weight…..that it is stretching itself very thin and that could be its undoing……sad part of that plan is that too many innocent civilians will have to suffer and die before we could know if that is the case….

However, I read this article and thought it would make for some interesting comments and/or debate……
