GOP Faces Reality

Holy Crap!  I cannot believe it….but it seems the more rational Repubs are finally facing reality……

  • GOP Sen. John McCain (AZ): “I can tell you that in the U.S. Senate, we will not repeal or defund Obamacare. We will not. And to think we can is not rational.”
  • GOP Strategist Karl Rove: The GOP defunding strategy is “self-defeating…It is an ill-conceived tactic, and Republicans should reject it.”
  • Fox News Host Bill O’Reilly: Defunding Obamacare is “fanaticism on the right,” O’Reilly says. “There’s no way Obamacare is going to be defunded. It’s not gonna happen.”
  • GOP Sen. Tom Coburn (OK): “Tactics and strategies ought to be based on what the real world is, and we do not have the political power to do this.”
  • GOP Sen. Rand Paul (KY): “I’m acknowledging we can’t probably defeat or get rid of Obamacare.”
  • GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte (NH): “I don’t believe they should shut down the government to [defund Obamacare], and I don’t think that is a strategy that is good for America.”
  • GOP Sen. Johnny Isakson (GA): “It’s total atrophy. We’re earning our 11 percent popularity. It’s easier to talk about Obamacare than the major sources of our problems.”
  • Wall Street Journal Editorial Board: “Kamikaze missions rarely turn out well, least of all for the pilots… The kamikazes could end up ensuring the return of all-Democratic rule.”

Now we will wait and see just much they plan to act on their new found reality…..

Is Ted Cruz Stupid?

I have heard a lot of things about the junior senator from the great state of Texas, Ted Cruz….and I know that everyone else has heard the rumblings….but the question still stands….Is Ted Cruz cray?

He comes off as a bit of a whack-a-doodle with his willingness top shut down government and his extreme hatred for Obamacare…he is like a Pit Bull with a leg bone………that is until recently when he seem to back peddle on his threats and bolster….and then there is his other quirks, if you like that word…..

For its upcoming edition, GQ profiles controversial Tea Party Republican and possible Canadian Ted Cruz. It’s a long one, full of colorful anecdotes about the man in the ostrich-skin cowboy boots, so we’ve plucked out some of the highlights:

  • Cruz has embraced the “Wacko Bird” nickname bestowed on him by John McCain—a baseball cap emblazoned with the title next to a picture of Daffy Duck given to him by supporters in Texas is one of his prized possessions.
  • In his office, Cruz has a giant oil painting of himself delivering his first argument before the Supreme Court. “I’ve always enjoyed the fact that as I’m sitting at my desk, I’m looking at a giant painting of me getting my rear end whipped 9-0,” he says. “It is helpful for keeping one grounded.”
  • Cruz loves to tell the story of how his father came to the US at 18 as a Cuban immigrant with only $100 sewn into his underwear, and bootstrapped his way to the American dream. He doesn’t so much enjoy talking about how his father’s gas and oil exploration business went bankrupt in the ’80s. When author Jason Zengerle brings it up, he says Cruz’s “face fell and he grew quiet” before sighing and acknowledging the story.
  • One of his former college roommates says Cruz is an Ivy League snob. While studying law at Harvard, he refused to study with anyone who hadn’t done their undergraduate degree at Harvard, Princeton, or Yale. “He said he didn’t want anybody from ‘minor Ivies’ like Penn or Brown,” says the roommate. He also wore his old crimson Harvard robe to give a commencement speech at a different university earlier this year.
  • Cruz was not popular amongst his colleagues while working on W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign. One source says he regularly sent out group emails detailing his personal accomplishments, akin to “the cards people send about their families at Christmas, except Ted’s were only about him and were more frequent.”

Then we ask again…Is he stupid?

This man may be a lot of things but stupid is NOT one of them!

If not stupid, what’s up with this dude?

His efforts so far is all about him……he must massage his ego….and in doing that he has expanded his base, donor base and voter…….it is never about him governing it is about him positioning himself for what he feels he was born to be…..president!

The problem is…his appeal is to political haters and that is NOT a winning presidential formula………

So, he is not stupid, he is way too clever for his own good……..he is an egotist and a loser…..PERIOD!

Iran And The Future

I know you have been bombarded with stories on the DC shootings and the approaching debt debate and Syria has slid into oblivion, for now, but that could change any day…..Iran has just had a presidential election recently and NBC News has snagged the first interview with the new prez…….he was asked lots of questions about stuff but the one that I was interested in was when Curry asked him if Iran was chasing a nuke weapon………

(Newser) – If Iran’s more moderate new president is to be believed, the US doesn’t have to worry about Tehran pursuing nuclear weapons. “We have never pursued or sought a nuclear bomb, and we are not going to do so,” Hasan Rouhani tells Ann Curry of NBC News. “We solely are looking for peaceful nuclear technology.” He also dismissed the idea that President Obama looked weak on Syria, with words that are hard to imagine coming from predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad:

  • “We consider war a weakness. Any government or administration that decides to wage a war, we consider a weakness. And any government that decides on peace, we look on it with respect to peace.”

Of course, Iranian officials have insisted previously that they have only peaceful nuclear intentions, notes Reuters, but Rouhani’s comments are seen as a further thawing of relations with the West in general and the US in particular. He described a recent letter from President Obama as “positive and constructive” and said “it could be subtle and tiny steps for a very important future.” Rouhani will be in the US in less than a week to address the UN General Assembly.

Could it be?  A new prez and a new direction for their policies?

Personally, I think he was just trying to get exclusive access to the American people.  He is trying to soften their tone while a continuation of policies is assured……he even went so far as to send a “friendly” greeting to Israel…..you heard me!

This is so much theatrics on the part of the Iranian prez……to begin with…he is NOT the power the clerics hold all the power and I have not heard a word out of them that would lead me to believe anything this man says……

Does anyone have another point of view they would like to share?

Conservatives Just Tickle Me Blind!

This post was a draft I saved and wanted to post it a couple of weeks ago….but circumstances put the kybash on that…first it was the CWs in Syria and before that went cold it was the shootings in DC and before that could cool we went on to the CR from the House….in other words all the silly games that can be played by Congress and their enablers…the media…..so now would be a good time to do my best…..

You we have all heard the silly scandals that have rocked the news for years now….most of them are the product of the warped sense of morality that conservs have….none of which is based in reality……but we will set that aside and talk about their so called “ideology”……….don not hurry if you cannot grasp it now….you will in the coming months as the mid terms approach…….

Let’s just look…..very simply at the Big 4 of what the conservs call ideology……..

Less regulation of business – companies should be allowed to prosper (and fail) on their own.  If they make a stupid business decision, they should be allowed to fail.  This isn’t to say that conservatives believe that ALL regulation should be done away with (though some do).  In general, conservatives are also opposed to bailouts.  And this is what gave us the meltdown of 2008……with help from the so-called libs of the Clinton years…..

Fewer government programs – conservatives believe that, in general, the private sector can do a better job than the public sector.  If a private sector company can do something well, then the government should not be involved.  And we see what a dynamite job privatization has done in the past…..

Smaller “social safety net” – conservatives believe that the “social safety net” shouldn’t necessarily take care of everyone, or take care of some people with ALL of their needs.  While conservatives may believe that programs should take care of people, this care shouldn’t be free (in most cases), and shouldn’t be long-term.  For instance, conservatives advocated welfare reform in the 1990s, saying that welfare should be short-term help, and shouldn’t completely support someone long-term.  Another plank that has NO footing in reality……society craps on the people and the people are some how to blame……

More “freedom” – not everything in life needs to be equal or fair.  Each person does what they want to do, and they reap the consequences of their actions.  So pretty much according to conservs equality is an out dated concept……

There you have it planks for the next 1000 years of conserv candidates……if I recall correctly there was another guy that thought his ideology would last a 1000 years…….what was his name again?  it is on the tip of my tongue….
