Forbes released its annual list Wednesday with Putin at the top, jumping ahead of U.S. President Barack Obama, last year’s winner. The writer says lately it’s been a “lame duck period” for Obama while Putin has “solidified his control over Russia.” Forbes says Obama dropped a spot this year due to the “government shutdown mess.” (Via The White House) It also points out the political crisis over Syria. Russia scolded the U.S.’ threat to attack the Middle Eastern country over chemical weapons. (Via ABC) Russia eventually convinced its ally Syria to hand over the weapons. (Via RT) Forbes also points to the NSA scandal and leaks by Edward Snowden as events that weakened Obama’s power and strengthened Putin’s. (Via The New York Times) Forbes says the rankings are based on the number of people, amount of money and spheres of influence the leaders control. Also on the list is newcomer Pope Francis at No. 4, German Chancellor Angela Merkel at No. 5, U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron at No. 11 and Facebook Chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg at No. 24. (Via Forbes) But while Putin might’ve topped Obama for first overall, The Independent suggests America is still the winner. “Of the 72 names on the list (each representing 100 million of the world’s population), 28 are American. The bulk of those are corporate bosses. … Apart from Putin, only three Russians make the list, a more accurate reflection of the country’s modest economic ranking (around 10th, as measured by GDP).” Putin was ranked third most powerful in the world last year. And for a man as burly as this, he might top the list of most physically powerful leaders, too. (Via AskMen.com)

First of all, I need to say congrats to the Boston Red Sox for their World Championship!

Remember in days before the Obamacare rollout debacle….you may remember the GOP and their attempt to kill the SNAP program….remember how many poor people it was going to effect….well the poor are NOT the only ones.

Vets will be screwed yet again by the very same douche bags that sent them to be maimed and killed….there is much that I feel needs improving in this country but when I hear these types of reports……..I become more disgusted and ashamed of this country every day!

The government has quickly settled into a normal position……send the troops then ignore them when the return….it work for Vietnam and being replayed today!

This is total bullshit!

Just check out how badly vets will be effected by this lame attempt to defund a much need program……vets deserve better from a country that ask so much of them…….

Where Does Our Tax Dollar Go?

My friend over at American Liberal Times wrote a post today about the cost of the ACA program…..I add this is to where a lot of our problems are found…..

I have heard this question asked by many and from both sides…..we hear about all those cheats on welfare and we hear about all that corporate welfare…..and then there are the stories about a $60 hammer or that $500 toilet seat…..you get my drift……this country is screwed daily by all those government contractors….that is why so many want to be on the list…..it is easy money.

I found another story about a total waste of our hard won cash in Afghanistan……

500 for a gallon of fuel?

That was the exorbitant figure paid with U.S. tax dollars to a contractor building a hospital in rural Afghanistan, according to a report from the government watchdog tasked with investigating expenditures on Afghanistan’s reconstruction.

In the report from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), the International Organization for Migration was found to lack sufficient internal controls able to detect overpayments of at least $507,000 to the contractor it hired to build a 100-bed hospital in the town of Gardez.

It was part of a project begun in July 2008 in a cooperative agreement between the United States International Agency for Development and IOM.

The examples of oversight ineptitude are staggering.

The inspector general found one case where IOM paid the contractor, Sayed Bilal Sadath Construction Company, $300,000 for 600 gallons of diesel fuel – a cost of $500 per gallon.

In another instance, IOM was found to have paid $220,000 for an automatic temperature control device that the audit said should have cost between $2,000 and $10,000.

Let’s Talk Libya–Again

With today’s post about the rehash of a made up scandal, Benghazi, I thought I would bring my readers a little more update on what happening in the country that caught our attention about 2 years ago….Libya.

With the murder or Qaddafi the whole little empire that he had for himself for about 40 years began to unwind…..there were lots of stories about a new form of violence toward the population…..like black Libyans becoming the targets of increasing amounts of violence, and of course the usual infighting among the different Muslim sects.  There have been all kinds of incidents aimed at the government officials like kidnappings and assassination attempts….so many sects vying for control………

Libya marks the second anniversary of the death of Muammar Gaddafi with the country on the brink of a new civil war and fighting raging in the eastern city of Benghazi, birthplace of its Arab spring revolution.

Violence between radical militias and regular forces broke out on Friday night and continued yesterday, while the capital Tripoli is braced for fallout from the kidnapping earlier this month of prime minister Ali Zaidan. Federalists in Cyrenaica, home to most of Libya’s oil, open their own independent parliament in Benghazi this week, in a step that may herald the breakup of the country.

For months, radical militias and regular forces in Benghazi have fought a tit-for-tat war. Last week two soldiers had their throats slit as they slept in an army base. But Friday’s killing of Libya’s military police commander, Ahmed al-Barghathi, shot as he left a mosque, has became the trigger for wider violence. Hours after an assassination branded a “heinous act” by US ambassador Deborah Jones, armed units stormed the Benghazi home of a prominent militia commander, Wissam Ben Hamid, with guns and rockets.

Fighting continued into the night, with army units heading for the home of a second militia commander, Ahmed Abu Khattala, indicted by the US for the killing of US ambassador Chris Stevens last year. There, they were turned back by powerful militia units.

There is more going on in Libya than this lame Benghazi conspiracy….there is more that can turn this country into a Syria or Iraq or Lebanon……this North African country is simmering and at any moment can boil over and when it does the US will be ass deep in another Middle East country’s internal affairs…..something that we Americans need to keep an eye on…..we do NOT need another Syria or Iraq…..enough said?

It’s Benghazi–AGAIN?

This is a pathetic story!  Graham is using Benghazi to win his primar4y….he is being primaried from the Right and he needs something that will divert attention….this is a pathetic attempt to do just that…….

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday he will block President Barack Obama’s nominees for executive branch positions until survivors of the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi testify before Congress.

“And where are the survivors? Fourteen months later, the people who survived the attack in Benghazi have not been made available to the U.S. Congress for oversight purposes,” Graham said on Fox & Friends Monday morning, referring to the attack in Libya that left four Americans dead, including the top American diplomat there. “So I’m going to block every appointment in the United States Senate until the survivors are being made available to Congress.”

Graham, a Republican, has been a critic of the Obama administration’s handling of the Benghazi attack and its aftermath.

His vow comes on the heels of a 60 Minutes report Sunday that revealed new details about the sophistication behind the attack. Critics have accused the White House of misleading the public in the first days following the attack, when the Administration’s public statements portrayed it as a random act of mob violence rather than a coordinated terrorist assault. The 60 Minutes report includes interviews with eyewitnesses who described warning signs in the days leading up the assault, like al-Qaeda flags flying in the streets of Benghazi and online postings stating al-Qaeda’s intentions.

Survivors?  I thought that there were NO survivors of the attack that all 4 people were killed…….do we need to rehash this faux scandal again….just to massage the political ego of a tired old man?

Just once I would like to hear a politician with ideas anbout saving this country from ruin….but NO..they have to use some mental trickery to get elected and then we learn what worthless a/holes they really are….when it is too late!!

NOTE:  As normal when I single out an individual in a post I send them a copy of the post by email and welcome their input…..Graham is more than welcome to respond and I will publish his response or challenge….I wait!

A Great Fracking Story!

By now we all have heard the oil boom going on in North and South Dakota….that is has created many, many jobs and the economy is well past the recession in these areas……most of this windfall oil boom comes from oil sands and that means FRACKING!

Is this really the feel good story for the economy that the media and oil companies want?  I mean so far it has been fairly incident free….or has it?

(Newser) – Oil spills usually make for big news—except in North Dakota, where officials have kept mum about hundreds of leaks involving thousands of barrels of oil, Grist reports. About 750 “oil field incidents” have occurred there since January of last year, according to records obtained by the AP, and one massive 20,600-barrel spill was hushed up for nearly two weeks in September. “That’s news to us,” said the head of a pro-environment group in North Dakota. “The public should really know about these”

Like other oil-producing states, North Dakota isn’t legally obliged to tell people about oil spills. But the state produces millions of barrels a day and approved some 2,500 miles of new pipelines last year, so spills may be an increasing risk to farmland and water. Now exposed, state officials are contemplating a website that will inform the public of at least some spills. But a wheat farmer said he also wants to see oil companies and regulators held accountable: “Right now, you don’t know if there is a spill unless you find it yourself,” he said.

Oh boy…..yes we have a problem today….just no one wants the rest of the country to know just how bad it is…….just Fracking great, right?  It seems the more transparent the technique becomes the more problems we see……Fracking is NOT the answer, my friends!

Like It NEVER Happened!

First, Obamacare SUCKS!  I believe that it is the consensus about now.  I know I am tired of hearing about it…..and from both sides…..does anyone have any other thoughts?  Well I do!

I am going to stay with the Middle East.

Remember years ago the now famous surge in Iraq?  You know the Patreus made famous…I mean we can argue on the situation and still have a big disagreement….to me it was not so much the general and his idea than it was the tribal leaders wanting to exact revenge for past actions….but that is my opinion and we all know what they say about opinions…..right?

Any way let’s fast forward to today….Iraq is a f*cked up mess and continues to go downhill quietly….we do not hear so much about the country now that we have been eliminated form the fighting….regardless it is not much better than in the glory days of the surge……bombings are up……killings are up…..all violence is up……and thanx to all that…I expect that worthless douche Maliki to come begging for help……and guess what?

Newser) – Nine car bombs exploded in Baghdad yesterday, which, along with a suicide attack and other incidents killed at least 66 people, the AP reports—and, unfortunately, that didn’t make it a particularly unusual day. The al-Qaeda affiliate group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has been pummeling the country with terrorist attacks that have in the Washington Post‘s words, “virtually erased the security gains made in the past five years.” At least 5,300 Iraqis have died this year, including more than 600 this month, and 880 in September.

It was a little more than five years ago that the US “surge” calmed Iraq by uniting moderate Sunnis against al-Qaeda. But after the US left, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki began marginalizing Sunni leaders, fanning sectarian tensions. Syria, meanwhile, has provided a perfect base for ISIS fighters; Anbar province, which borders Syria, has suffered seven major attacks in the past week alone, as fighters pass freely across the border. Maliki will ask for US help in the fight when he visits Washington in three days.

What will be the reaction of Washington warhawks?  Should we help out?  After all it was us that f*cked everything up in the country.
